Centrico Plaza is the crown jewel resting in the core of Lumiose City. Just the Prism Tower, standing at the very center of it, is already one of the most widely recognized landmarks of the entire region; and even the rest of the location isn't too shabby, with verdant gardens, beautifully patterned cobblestone pathes, the sound of the river running underneath the floor, and a surrounding circle of mid-height Kalosian houses, the splendorous local arquitecture adorning the plaza as a foil. Many businesses have come into being at the ground floors of the area, but today, the world-famous roundway of egg hatching is all Asber's, with barriers sealing off all of the many roads leading into the city's very own hub -- and of course, curious crowds gathering at the edges to watch the competition.

For this round of the tournament, each player has been loaned a fresh Pokémon from Kalos. Battles in this round will not last longer than five rounds; if neither Pokémon has fainted by the end of the fifth round, the winning trainer will be the one with the greatest sum of health and energy remaining on their Pokémon.

Man, it always seemed like I'm the only person in the world who didn't like Vivillon, but perhaps we could be friends. You shall have the monsoon pattern and your name shall be... Vermiculate Monsoon. I don't give a fuck that that doesn't really make sense.

Okay, VM, let's start with Sleep Powder. If your opponent's Protecting/Detecting or using Magic Coat, put up a Safeguard. On your next two actions, if your opponent's asleep, drain energy with Dream Eater. If your opponent's still awake, go with Struggle Bug twice to prepare for next round. If you can't hit your opponent because of Protect/Detect/Dig/sorcery (clones are fine, subs are not though), make yourself a small Substitute if it's the second action and use Calm Mind if it's the third.

Sleep Powder / Safeguard ~ Dream Eater (energy) / Struggle Bug / Substitute (10%) ~ Dream Eater (energy) / Struggle Bug / Calm Mind

Okay...I need to think of something to call you....let's see.....how about Aphrodite....Affy for short?

Okay, Affy, we don't need those dumb status problems, so put up a Protect. Struggle Bug you're resistant against, so let's use Calm Mind since it won't affect you too much. Then, use Moonblast, because of STAB.

Protect ~ Calm Mind ~ Moonblast

Though the initial flood of Asber residents was starting to level off, there were still plenty of trainers and referees struggling to get into Centrico Plaza to kick off their first tournament battles. That was on top of the usual mass of residents and tourists found in Lumiose City. Eifie, in particular, seemed to be having some difficulties – every time she attempted to grab the rental Pokemon offered by the Asber official standing near the entrance of the plaza, another wave of rabid tourists swept her back. At last she managed to squeeze her way out of the alley, and after giving the receding mass of people a rude gesture, she took her rental and sent it out of the Pokeball. A blue, white, and grey butterfly Pokemon popped out. Eifie scowled a bit, not being overly fond of Vivillon at all, but she shook hands with her temporary partner and gave him a nickname regardless.

Meanwhile, Flareth was also getting acquainted with her new friend. The Sylveon in front of her trilled happily as she lightly wrapped her ribbons around her temporary trainer’s arms, sending calm vibes to Flareth to prepare her for the tournament. The referee gave the trainers a few more moments to get to know their rentals and issue commands, then waved a flag to signal the start of the battle.

As soon as the round began, Aphrodite crouched on the ground in a defensive position, bolstering the shimmering green shield she had quickly erected in front of her. Though she braced for an attack, none came; Vermiculate Monsoon, recognizing the green glow and the protective posture, stopped gathering sedative compounds in his wing scales. Instead, he created an emerald screen of his own, though this one was far more insubstantial, designed to protect only against long-term disruptions. When Aphrodite saw that her opponent had no intention of attacking after all, she let down her Protect, frowning slightly.

It turned out that Aphrodite let her guard down too soon, though, as Vermiculate Monsoon abruptly began to flap erratically about, contorting disturbingly all the while. As he flitted here and there, tiny flecks of some sort of stinky slime shot from his mouth and landed on Aphrodite. Thoroughly grossed out by the display and the gunk, the Sylveon shrieked in disgust, rolling on the floor to wipe away the bits of foul goo. After a bit of squirming Aphrodite leapt to her paws again and shook herself vigorously, but she swore she could still feel the spots where the bug slime had touched her tingling.

The best way to purge her mind of the Struggle Bug, Aphrodite reasoned, was to meditate. Taking a deep, calming breath, she curled up on the floor and closed her eyes, focusing her thoughts on her heartbeat, her breathing – anything constant and comforting. The world outside her fell away as she realigned with her inner tranquility. Slowly, the tension bled out of Aphrodite’s body – only to return as she felt something drip on her forehead. Cautiously she cracked an eye open.

Vermiculate Monsoon’s face loomed right above Aphrodite’s, a manic gleam in his eyes and more foul slime dripping out of his mouth. Aphrodite gave a high-pitched scream and shot to her feet. Though she tried her best to sprint away, Vermiculate Monsoon was faster, zigzagging this way and that to block her escape and drizzle her with more disgusting goop. In the end, Aphrodite gave up on fleeing and instead focused on the moon – a task that was more difficult than usual, thanks Vermiculate Monsoon’s disturbing distractions – to help her compress fairy-type energy into a large, unstable sphere. Vermiculate Monsoon closed his eyes just before it surged forth, hitting him in the thorax and exploding in a brilliant pinkish flash on contact. The Vivillon cried out in pain as the Moonblast seared his exoskeleton. Mercifully the attack did not last long, and when the last of the fairy-type energy dissipated, Vermiculate Monsoon gave his wings a few flaps, pleased to note that he did not feel too achy.

Yeah, let's buff our stats again. Two Calm Minds will do, I guess. On the third action, use Hidden Power but if he uses Protect/Detect/other moves where you can't hit him, form a Substitute.

awww you're determined to IMPRESS me that's SO CUTE OH MY GOD I mean I haven't been won over yet, don't get cocky >:(

Start by grabbing that Oran Berry with Bug Bite. Nom nom. Then, you know what would really impress me? If you didn't miss with Sleep Powder! Wait for that second Calm Mind before using it, though. Let's set up for some Vehicular Manslaughter next round!

Finally, if Sleep Powder misses (but it should be hard for that to happen with your opponent literally sitting still over there), try it again and know that I am very disappointed >:( Otherwise, copy those stat boosts for yourself with Psych Up.

Vermiculate Monsoon swooped towards Aphrodite, who flinched, anticipating another freaky display. Her hesitation allowed Vermiculate Monsoon to lunch forward and fasten his tiny mouth apparatus on Aphrodite’s Oran Berry. With a noise of protest she slammed her paws on the berry, nearly breaking it in her attempt to keep it away from her ravenous opponent. Vermiculate Monsoon was not so easily deterred, however, and let go briefly to deliver a nasty nip to each paw. Aphrodite shrieked and pulled away instinctively, allowing Vermiculate Monsoon to fly away with the berry. He downed the stolen morsel in a few bites, laughing smugly at Aphrodite all the while.

Aphrodite sniffed unhappily, but decided that Vermiculate Monsoon’s thievery wasn’t something to be overly worked up about. She turned her back pointedly on her opponent and sat down in a comfortable position. She closed her eyes, focusing on her breathing and heartbeat, realigning herself with the core aspects of her being. As she concentrated, her mind was purged of any unpleasant thoughts that may have distracted her.

So relaxing and profound was her meditation that Aphrodite decided to keep at it for a few more minutes than she normally would. She could feel her psyche sharpen and strengthen its barriers. Meanwhile, Vermiculate Monsoon was bored out of his mind. He flitted to and fro, mumbled nursery rhymes to himself, glanced at his Oran Berry and considered munching that one too. After a few monotonous minutes of waiting, he flew over to Aphrodite and flapped his wings furiously, shedding scales that glimmered green in the sunlight. Aphrodite’s nose twitched as she inhaled the powder and her eyes snapped open, but by the time she was aware of what was going on the sedatives in the powder were already taking effect. Her eyelids slid closed again as she wobbled on her paws and fell over on her side, fast asleep.

Vermiculate Monsoon giggled to himself as Aphrodite began to snore slightly. He wasn’t even bothered by his Safeguard fading away, since his opponent wouldn’t be awake to take advantage of his vulnerability. He flapped about for a moment in excitement – surely Eifie was impressed now! With a wide grin he turned around to wave a tiny hand at his temporary trainer before returning to the task at hand. Tapping into his fairly limited psychic abilities, he reached out and entered Aphrodite’s mind. At once he was plunged into a world of utmost calm. With a deep breath Vermiculate Monsoon linked his mind with his opponent’s to share that calm. A deep peacefulness pervaded his body, and when he returned to his own mind, his excitement had given way to a tranquil determination.

WHO'S A GOOD LITTLE PIECE OF VERMIN :3

Okay, my pretty, I want you to flutter off a good distance away and try to Chill. Then put up another Safeguard and finally, if Aphrodite's still asleep, Dream Eater targeting her energy. If she's awake, just drop your berry on the spot and hit her with Acrobatics, but if she's Protecting, just Chill.

Chill ~ Safeguard ~ Dream Eater (energy) / Acrobatics (drop berry) / Chill

Well, I guess, Chill as well, but not sure if you can do that while sleeping, so in case you can't, use Sleep Talk. For these next two turns, use Hidden Power, unless you are asleep, in this case, use Sleep Talk.

With his opponent soundly asleep, Vermiculate Monsoon could afford to let his guard down. He fluttered a fair distance away and carefully drifted down onto the pavement. He felt very vulnerable on the ground, so he nervously shot a glance at Aphrodite, who was sleeping like a log and was, for all intents and purposes, dead to the world. Reassured, Vermiculate Monsoon lowered his head and closed his eyes for an appreciated nap.

Luckily for Vermiculate Monsoon, Aphrodite’s trainer did not decide to take advantage of his vulnerable resting state. Aphrodite snored away instead of performing the sleep-walking shenanigans that Asber Pokemon were prone to do. The battle lulled for a few minutes as both Pokemon laid down their arms to restore their energy.

Eventually, Vermiculate Monsoon stirred. With a little yawn he flapped his wings to become airborne once more. Though his opponent was still asleep, Vermiculate Monsoon knew that sleeping Pokemon could be unpredictable, so he focused energy into his wingtips and twirled, leaving a glowing circle above him. A gentle green barrier cascaded from the circle, surrounding Vermiculate Monsoon.

As soon as the Safeguard was complete, Aphrodite snuffled and staggered to her feet. With her eyes still closed, she swerved drunkenly towards Vermiculate Monsoon. She gracelessly reared up on her hind legs, nearly overbalancing, before viciously lashing out with her paws, delivering some solid jabs to Vermiculate Monsoon’s wings. He shrieked and tried to flap away, but Aphrodite managed to pursue him and pummel him a few more times before she gave a loud snort and abruptly collapsed back into a snoozing heap. Vermiculate Monsoon flapped his wings more gingerly than usual as he assessed the delicate membranes for damage, but aside from some soreness, he seemed in fairly good shape.

Eager to avoid any lasting harm from his unpredictable opponent, Vermiculate Monsoon focused energy into his wingtips and twirled, leaving a glowing circle above him. A gentle green barrier cascaded from the circle, surrounding Vermiculate Monsoon. As soon as the Safeguard was completed, Aphrodite stirred again. This time, she didn’t bother to find her footing; she simply lifted her head and burped out a peculiar puff of pinkish smoke that floated its way between the two battlers. Vermiculate Monsoon eyed it suspiciously. Suddenly it exploded, spreading the mist, along with gratuitous sparkles, across Centrico Plaza. Parents cried out in surprise as their small children were lost under the blanket of pixie dust.

Vermiculate Monsoon wasn’t about to suffer blows without returning them. Using his psychic powers he crept into Aphrodite’s mind and peered into her dreams. He didn’t know what he was expecting from the archetypal Fairy Pokemon – unicorns? Rainbows? Candy Mountain? Instead, in her dreams Aphrodite was ten times her normal size and was squashing dragons by stepping on them. Figures. Vermiculate Monsoon began to tear away at the dream to absorb its essence for himself, ripping wide gashes in the sky through which dragons that rivaled the giant Aphrodite’s size dropped through. Vermiculate Monsoon stayed in the dream for a few moments more, relishing Aphrodite’s shocked expression as she found herself too exhausted to grow larger to face her new adversaries.

By the time Vermiculate Monsoon returned to his own mind, Aphrodite’s sleep was much more fitful. She tossed and turned, hissing at the dragons of her imagination, before lifting her head and giving a throaty roar. A peculiar puff of pinkish smoke rushed out of her mouth and floated its way between the two battlers. Being a bug, Vermiculate Monsoon only eyed it suspiciously, though any dragons nearby would have felt weaker in the presence of the unassuming mote of mist. Suddenly it exploded, spreading the mist, along with gratuitous sparkles, across Centrico Plaza. Parents cried out in surprise as their small children were lost under the blanket of pixie dust.

Okay, Affy, if you're still asleep during your turns, just keep using Sleep Talk. But if you awake, use Moonblast. If VM protects or does any of those types of shenanigans at any point when you are awake, just Chill.

Ahhh wait a second I'm so sorry I must've missed Flareth's Chill conditional ;; Pokemon can absolutely Chill while sleeping. I'll edit this tomorrow morning (this literally occurred to me as I was crawling into bed) but afterwards, Flareth, you can recommend if you'd like.

Sorry once again ;;

Yeah I was kind of wondering... I'll wait for Flareth to say whether or not they'll recommand, then.

OKAY uh I just edited the round now. If there are any questions about the calculations or anything, please tell me ;; Just goes to show that no-one's immune to dumb mistakes.

I'm not sure if this will change people's commands, but I'll give you guys a chance to change them again if you want.

I'm good with my commands, and uh, I already commanded, so it's kind of awkward if Flareth can change hers now...

Which is why I said Flareth could command after I finished editing. ;; Ugh this is a mess, sorry guys. But technically Flareth doesn't seem to have been online since you've issued you commands so you could. Quietly delete them? And then VM won't know you lied to him either. :D
