Ah, Toronto... Home to the infamous CN Tower, and many other high-rise buildings. Normally the area would be far too packed with cars and people to attempt a battle, but after speaking to the government, they allowed a pair of ASB trainers to battle within a ten kilometer radius of the CN Tower and the Rogers Dome, so long as there was no cataclysmic damage to buildings. Yeah I lied so what.
The area immediately surrounding the CN Tower and the Rogers Dome is relatively clear of other large buildings, though a highway busily hurries (or crawls) past off to the side. On the opposite side, there is a large network of apartments and office buildings that are packed quite close together. In such an industrialized place, it's no surprise that there isn't too much greenery, though the occasional small field of grass dots the landscape. Trees line some of the roads' sides.
Speaking of roads, downtown Toronto has an intricate network of roads. They are often rather narrow, about three cars'-width wide, save for the major streets, which can carry many more. The roads are almost always packed full of cars which creep forward at the pace of a sloth's.
Past the aforementioned highway and another network of buildings is a large lake which can be used in any way the battlers so please. Move such as Surf, therefore, can be executed, though they will certainly cause a large amount of chaos, and the wave will be weakened severely by the time it reaches its target. Of course, Toronto's water pipes could always burst open to provide for moves that require an external water source. It's all the referee's call.

In case the referee needs a picture: voila.

Signature attribute: Paranormal Power

It is well known that Kadabra have incredible psychic powers. Many have reported strange phenomena happening just as a result of Kadabra being nearby- clocks running backwards, eerie shadows on television screens, people experiencing headaches and so on. Ordinarily these are just useless side-effects. However, this particular Kadabra accidentally exploded a toaster in the middle of using an innocent Kinesis attack and had a brainwave; maybe these accidental psychic powers could be used to his advantage in battle! He trained to amplify these inherent psychic waves until they affected artificial and technology-related Pokémon, sending them berserk and making them weaker merely from being in battle with Ramuh. Of course the effort of putting out these powerful waves is a great strain on the Kadabra's other, intentional psychic abilities.

Effects: When battling Magnemite, Magneton, Magnezone, Porygon, Porygon2, PorygonZ, Beldum, Metang, Metagross, Bronzor, Bronzong, or any appliance-form Rotom, there is a 10% chance that the Pokémon will be afflicted with Confuse at the start of each round. The waves also have an ability to weakly control electrical currents, meaning that every Electric-type attack aimed at Ramuh has its accuracy reduced by 5%. However the effort of boosting its paranormal PSI-waves causes it to use up 1% extra energy each action (even if idle, sleeping, frozen, flinching, paralysed, or using Chill). On top of this, as the waves are inherently released by all Kadabra they cannot be "switched off", even when they serve no purpose. The waves are also indiscriminate, so any friendly Magnemite, Magneton, Magnezone, Porygon, Porygon2, PorygonZ, Beldum, Metang, Metagross, Bronzor, Bronzong or Rotom will stand a chance of being confused also.

Well, it's your first battle, so let's just warm up a bit first. Start off with... hm, how about a Dark Void? That isn't too much of a problem. Follow up with Spacial Rend and finally, Judgement.

Well Ansem, I think we should start this one off with a Metronome. Then follow that up with a nice Metronome, and finish with another Metronome. But if she uses Metronome at any point, use Metronome instead.

That the TCoD ASB League has such influence over the Canadian government that a pokémon battle would be permitted in the city limits, surrounded by thousands of people and near a few cultural icons, is a potentially terrifying thought. That the League can have the government clear a large, usually crowded area of people when there is no real reason to, at the government’s expense, is just convenient. Of course, the government did request that there would be no significant collateral damage, so one assumes they simply feared the power of the League pokémon and only agreed for their safety. Either they were never told the nature of the battle, they did not believe the chances of the town being destroyed is significant, or they truly had no choice.

It doesn’t really matter why they can do this, because blazheirio889 and Mike the Foxhog are really only here to battle, and all they had to do was find the place and post a request. All the behind-the-scenes stuff is boring and unimportant, and besides, like all metronome battles, they’re just here to destroy everything, promises be damned.

To have a full appreciation of destruction, one must appreciate that which will be destroyed. To this end, the humans have all explored the city as well as possible before the battle, with funding from outside ASB. The most obvious feature and the biggest target is the nearby CN Tower, a massive structure that looms over the battlefield. If anyone here could fly, it would take quite a while to reach the top, and then the battlers below would be too small to see. On the other side of the battlefield, the much wider yet shorter Rogers Dome presents another easy target. These are the only landmarks anyone would remember the name of, although the apartment and office buildings, dwarf towers in comparison with the CN Tower, are clearly visible in the distance. The only pride from destroying these would be proof that the attack is widespread and the body count.

Between the blocks of buildings there are the streets of Toronto, most of which are so packed with cars that they move more slowly than the people walking on the sidewalks. The occasional blare of a horn pierces the air, perhaps to wake up anyone that might be sleeping in their cars due to the lack of progress. The crowds of tourists mostly ignore the occasional person playing an instrument, singing a song, or just sitting on the sidewalks with a hat or cup and asking for a few coins. Between the crowds, cars, and buildings, it’s nearly guaranteed that a landscape-devastating attack will destroy hundreds of lives. The only uninteresting target, therefore, is the distant Lake Ontario. Any decent attack would have to cover a vast area, however, as the immediate area is devoid of human traffic as per the ASB League’s request. A few people stand around to watch the battle and see what is so important that the government would go through all this trouble, but not many, as they would have had to sneak around the police blockades.

Out of what the referee would declare efficiency, only one option for each trainer is listed on the referee’s clipboard – no other pokémon on either trainer’s active team is capable of using the only permitted move in the battle. Despite having both their pokémon choices and potential commands already decided for them, the battle goes according to the typical format. Mike the Foxhog tosses a pokéball onto the asphalt, and the ball splits open along the middle. The inside glows brilliant white. Light bursts out of the ball, forming a bipedal shape with a large head and large tail. The light fades to gold and brown, revealing a kadabra. Ignoring the startled cries of people receiving slight shocks from their suddenly-broken cell phones and iPods, blazheirio889 follows with her own pokéball, and the materialising pokémon takes a familiar shape. The egg with a spiky crown is well-known amongst the metronome battle circles, and togepi like this one typically grace said battles with their presence. blazheirio889 requests that her togepi summon the most powerful legendary signature moves, well beyond the capability of almost all pokémon, although she’s aware that it’s all to be left to choice. Mike the Foxhog is rather more straightforward, although he too injects humour into his commands.

As eager as either trainer to see Toronto in ruins, the referee calls for the battle to begin.

.: Actions :.

Ansem spends a moment to think about his orders before realising Mike the Foxhog’s true intent, and he smiles when he realises he doesn’t actually have to wait to see if Mercury is going to use metronome – there’s really no other legal option, and besides, blazheirio889 gave orders first. He raises his hands, manipulates the spoon so it’s out of the way, and moves both fingers from side to side. As the invisible threads holding reality together bend, pushed by his dancing phalanges, some threads weaken. Warmth fills his fingers and they glow with power. Something snaps. A green haze surrounds him, but he keeps waggling his fingers, although something has changed—his expression is completely blank, and he sways in time to a beat only he can hear. Mercury gives him an odd look; it’s possible that he could have started his own metronome, but there’s something off about Ansem, and something tells Mercury that something significant is about to happen. The glow around the kadabra strengthens, and the same light fills his eyes. Then Ansem straightens his arms, pointing up at the sky, and looses an eerie howl he could not possible be capable of on his own.

All human battle participants, as referees with extensive knowledge of every move in existence, bear identical stunned expressions. They look up at the sky, although now their body language portray subtler differences – between them there is excitement, dismay, jealousy, awe, glee – when their expectations are met. Confused and nervous, the few audience members also look up.

Mercury, seeing this, nervously turns his eyes to the sky. The sun is too bright to behold even at the edges of his vision, but when he squints he can barely see a patch of green in the blue sky. The light brightens and the patch grows, but then he has to close his eyes until a cloud creeps between the sun and the battle. As he opens his eyes, he becomes aware of, behind the distant sounds of traffic, a muffled roar. The roaring grows steadily louder, and the growing green patch reveals itself as several green lights rather close together. As the attack approaches, the space between the lights grows with the objects themselves. The volume sharply increases, forcing all humans to cover their ears. Mercury’s paws don’t reach, though, and Ansem doesn’t even move.

Something massive shoots by overhead, and crashes into the centre of the Rogers Dome. Everyone hears the explosion, but there’s no time to react, because then there’s more—an explosion of green energy at the top of a distant office building, a massive spray of water near the shores of Lake Ontario, an impact on the busy street that sends cars flying, and then the first clear shot, a rock wreathed in green flame crashing before blazheirio889. Though the trainer dives out of the way, the explosion of green flame catches Mercury across the back. Shockwaves and a blast of hot air throw him forward, then another meteor cuts through the CN Tower’s antenna and continues on to strike the Rogers Dome once more. The antenna clatters onto the ground and breaks, but it’s barely noticed when another meteor impacts a little to Mercury’s left. Green fire and shockwaves throw him to the side, and he continues rolling. The air heats up and the limited plant life dries until another meteor strike and a splash of molten rock sets a patch of grass alight.

The dizzying mix of crashes, explosions, screams, fire, smoke, and death leave only Ansem untouched, and he continues staring and pointing at the sky with a completely vacant expression. Another crash of a meteor into the Rogers Dome and an explosion of green and orange fire striking Mercury a third time don’t even induce a blink. It is only when finally, finally the last meteor slams into a major street that Ansem slowly lowers his arms and he becomes aware of his surroundings. Even so, he only watches with slight confusion and mild amusement, as if he doesn’t fully register the magnitude of his attack. He is pleased, to be sure, but that’s because the attack was powerful and highly damaging against his opponent.

Mercury gapes in mute shock, with feelings of fear and envy mixing with hope and determination to do better. He waves his stubby forelimbs, eyes narrowed and mouth forming a slight pout. A strand of reality loops itself around one of his stubs, and they are enveloped by a white light. Like Ansem before him, he feels a rush of draconic energy, and he is surrounded by a green glow. He opens his mouth as wide as it will go, and the aura gathers in a tiny orb in his mouth. The glowing green orb grows, filling his entire mouth with energy, and he unleashes a blast of pure energy. Ansem raises an arm to shield his face, but there’s no need, as the blast strikes his stomach instead. He steps back, cringing at the sharp pain on his skin, but the attack only lasts a moment. The light fades, revealing his mild burn. That was completely unfair, Mercury thinks; if he had been a little faster, surely he would be the one to destroy everything and inflict severe damage against his opponent.

Ansem waggles his fingers a second time, tearing through an invisible thread and allowing something to happen where it normally and logically should not. This time, a deep blue aura surrounds him for a moment, then retreats toward his tail. His tail, glowing blue with energy, waves in the air, then he takes a step toward Mercury. The aura then melts into water that spins around his tail, and he runs at Mercury. He twists his body upon reaching his enemy, and the water separates to form a wall that strikes Mercury’s front just before the suddenly-muscled tail slams into Mercury’s face. With a squeal, he topples over, and he struggles to get up without useful arms.

Of course, a little pain never stopped a pokémon from performing its next move! Severe pain might have, but that’s different. Mercury doesn’t even let the water finish falling from his body; he just waves his paws in a rhythm that resonates with something mystical in the background. The air seems to thrum with power and potential, then his paws finally glow. A weak blue glow emanates from his body. Mercury suddenly has a very strong urge to play in the puddle left behind by the aqua tail—more than that, because he’s doing it without thinking. His splashes would look gleeful if not for his lack of expression, but his dedication to getting himself fully wet is clear. When it becomes obvious that jumping around won’t work, he lies down and rolls in the puddle, and he’s sure to do an awkward flip that lets him wet the top of his head as well.

Really? Splashing? What the hell can that do? Ansem chuckles and raises his hands again. His fingers waggle from side to side in a new rhythm, although he’s already getting bored of this part. It’s not the point of the attack, anyway; what everyone is waiting for is what comes next. All he has to do is—there! Ansem feels something subtly change just before his fingers glow, then a tan cloud surrounds his body. He picks up a few chunks of rubble in one hand and quickly flicks them at Mercury with his spoon. Ow… ow… whoosh… ow… ow! Only four rocks actually strike the togepi, and none of them hurt very much, but they still sting. The one that flies past him probably wouldn’t have done much, and it just lands harmlessly a ways back on the street.

Come on, Mercury thinks, it’s the last action before he gets orders again. If he doesn’t get in an attack that rivals Ansem’s, he’s pathetic and is put in second-place. Trembling slightly, he waves his appendages in a new rhythm until they glow. This time, a white haze of energy surrounds him, and he finds his feet moving almost on their own. He runs at Ansem, raising a glowing paw, then swings a stub at Ansem as hard as he can. He just brushes past Ansem, though, not even managing to hurt the kadabra, and his momentum carries him a bit behind his opponent. They both turn to face each other awkwardly, both rather annoyed by the anticlimactic end to a round that started with something far more exciting.

Ansem can see his trainer’s wide grin, and he quickly determines that his trainer, too, has some sort of desire to destroy the city. This is a different type of battle than a typical ASB battle, then, with a different goal, although a win is ultimately determined in the same manner as usual. If this is what his trainer wants, then it is what he will hope for, though he still has no control over what happens. He raises his fingers and waggles them back and forth. He can’t see how reality might be warping around those fingers, so he can’t use his psychic abilities to manipulate the results. He can only distantly feel the flow of energy wrapping around his fingers, and a different sort of energy growing from within said digits. Those are what makes his fingers glow, he decides, just before the white light winks into existence. But then he stops thinking. He loses all motivation. Instead, a vague sort of apathy fills him, leaving him with no wish but to sit down and relax. He ignores Mercury, the general panic filling the town, and, for the time being, even his trainer. His pronounced lack of thought allows his body to heal itself, but he doesn’t notice that, either.

Mercury, though, definitely notices when Ansem’s light burn shrinks and completely disappears, and he frowns. That was all Mercury managed to do, and yet…! It’s rather upsetting, though he acknowledges it would be worse if he’d inflicted substantial damage before it was all undone. Still, he once again wishes that Ansem’s move was performed by Mercury instead, since healing would be very useful right now. Perhaps it will be, or perhaps he’ll manage something decent. He wiggles his appendages, mentally praying to both Mew and Celebi that he’ll summon meteors or that “magma storm” he’s never before witnessed. His paws glow white, and a silvery haze of elemental energy surrounds him. Then he has the uncomfortable feeling of a liquid seeping out through his shell from around his butt area, covering it. It feels strange, too, tense, he’d even say, much to his embarrassment (a feeling that would be much more pronounced if he realised that his butt was glowing as brightly as his paws). But he takes a few quick steps, anyway, then leaps at the kadabra that insists on ignoring him. He turns in midair, then crashes butt-first into Ansem’s just-healed stomach. He feels surprisingly little of the impact, perhaps thanks to the metal coating that then disappears, but Ansem falls onto his back with the togepi sitting on his stomach.

The lethargy quickly leaks out of Ansem’s bones, and he brushes Mercury off him with a grumble. Mercury leaps off, also uncomfortable in that position. Ansem waggles his fingers, trying to feel the flow of energy again, though he can’t make himself care as much as before. His fingers glow, and he must keep waggling them to a silent beat: that’s all that matters. The black aura of energy tells him that he will not enjoy this next move, but that’s his only hint before his emotions are once again manipulated by something he cannot control. This time, it’s irritation, though it’s directed at Mercury for all of Mercury’s cheating tactics. This fuels the dark energy surrounding his hands, and he closes them into fists. Mercury looks up at Ansem’s twisted expression with a slightly frightened one of his own, but he can do nothing to stop the flurry of punches that crack his shell and burn him with pure hatred.

The anger dissipates quickly, having little legitimate reason to be there in the first place, and Ansem’s face relaxes. The dark energy, though, still burns. Perhaps Mercury is a little angrier than before, though he’s got enough reason to be. His entire body hurts, and it’s all Ansem’s fault. He can’t even be sure his next move will be an attack. He raises his paws with a grumble, and waggles them until he sees the familiar glow. Dracometeormagmastormdarkvoidspacialrendjudgment please please please, he thinks, up until a strange, glowing white bell forms from his paw. He automatically grasps it (that he can do so without fingers is not the metronome’s influence, though many would think so) and shakes it gently. The bell’s tolling is loud and sweet-sounding, soothing his mind and removing all traces of anger. Even Ansem stares at it, entranced. He continues to focus on the sound even as he raises his hands for a sixth metronome.

This time, his mind is filled with dizzying nonsense that he has the strong urge to share. Share with the entire world! He will regret it later, but for the time being he yells at the top of his lungs about delicious fish, urine trouble, the problem with caffeinated beverages, Uranus jokes that don’t actually work in his language, how Japanese pokémon names are better than the English versions, and hey, loud sounds enough can kill, right it awesome isn’t? In the process, he completely mangles the rules of grammar, though it’s more of a concern that he moves from subject to subject so quickly. Mercury is probably lucky he can’t understand the words, but not as lucky that this is because of its volume. Powerful sound waves batter her eardrums, filling her mind with nothing but incomprehensible yelling. Mercury staggers, feeling like he might vomit. The ground feels unstable and he falls onto his butt. Even when Ansem takes in a deep breath, then abruptly forgets everything he’s going to say, Mercury’s ears are ringing.

Mercury swallows and waves his paw, latching onto the calm ticking inside his head. It’s the only thing he can hear at the moment, and the only thing he think of. His paws match the ticking automatically. His paws glow, and like Ansem before him he opens his mouth, ready to make good use of his vocal cords.

Though the words themselves are nearly as nonsensical as Ansem before him, his sweet tune outdoes even the bell from before. His voice is gentle, soothing, warm. It fills Ansem with peace and, perhaps, a familiar lethargy, and Ansem’s eyelids droop shut. He sits down, yawns, makes himself comfortable, then allows himself to drift off to Mercury’s beautiful song.

As Ansem continues to snooze, Mercury just sits down and stares blankly into space. “Clear your head.” What is that supposed to mean? Maybe just not thinking, but the ringing in his ears won’t let him do that. He tries, anyway, and closes his eyes to help with that. When he opens his eyes, he thinks everything looks a little clearer, and the world has stopped moving around him.

He notices Ansem is still sleeping, and with a slight smirk Mercury stands up, preparing to catch the kadabra by surprise. But then the world suddenly seems lopsided again, and in another wave of dizziness Mercury forgets where he is and what he’s doing. He falls back onto his butt, wondering why such a small movement had such a great effect.

A soft grunt and Ansem’s shifting tells Mercury that he has wasted too much time. Ansem stands up, picking up his spoon, and gives himself a once-over to see if he has any new injuries. Nope, nothing. He wonders what Mercury has been doing during that brief nap – Mercury doesn’t look any different, but maybe he’s a little bit stronger somehow. With a slight shrug, Ansem raises his fingers and waggles them in unison, matching the slow ticking he hears in his mind. His fingers glow, then something warps and snaps, a red aura flares up around him, and then—

White flames burst into existence, rushing around Ansem in a column of fire. Mercury can feel the intensity of the flames from where he sits, but Ansem only feels comforting warmth. The fire rises and uncoils as if it were a snake, then rushes down like spiralling lightning. Mercury hisses, but rather than feeling like he had a hot iron bar shoved through his stomach, he just feels like one prodded him. Some of the water coating erupts into steam.

Pleased that perhaps luck is starting to favour him, Mercury waggles his paws to summon another attack. This time, when his paws glow, he notices a faint purplish tinge in the air. Then purple glitter blows out of his paws, carried by a gentle wind toward Ansem. Ansem stares at the purple cloud, uncomprehending until it reaches him. He can’t help but breathe in some of the powder, and they get to work surprisingly quickly. He feels slightly ill, but through this his mind reaches out toward Mercury, showing Mercury how he feels. Mercury coughs, suddenly feeling powder coating his airway, but this is overtaken by the feeling of a sudden illness.

With a few waggles of his fingers, an ancient well of power opens within Ansem, one of fire and mighty roars and hurricanes. He feels massive wings spread, flexes his claws, thrashes his tail, and opens massive, fang-lined jaws. A thin stream of green flame--the only thing both pokémon would agree are real--escapes his throat and coils into a fireball. It rockets forward and slams into Mercury. The explosion of green fire reminds Mercury of the falling meteors for one terrible moment, but there is no real shockwave or hard stone. Mercury's metronome calls on something cool that flows and dances. He inhales more air than his tiny lungs could ever hold. Water coats the inside of his mouth, and he blows out a stream of iridescent bubbles. They pop against Ansem's shoulder, stinging far more than they have any right to.

Ansem's leg muscles twitch and tense. Then they move, half-against his will, sending him across scorched pavement and slamming a foot into Mercury's face. Before Mercury can do anything but turn from the force, the foot has planted itself on the ground and Ansem's other foot strikes Mercury's side. Mercury topples over, and rolls a few feet away. He rocks forward violently and lands on his feet. The glow of power lights his appendages, and something solid and sturdy grows within him. Ansem blinks--did Mercury just get a slight tan? That can't be it, it's on his shell and injuries, and it's rippling where his mouth is. It's in his mouth. Oh, wait--light shoots out of Mercury's mouth, glittering and sparkling and light brown. The beam singes the fur off Ansem's stomach and sears his flesh. His breath rushes out between his teeth and he looks down at the burn. Surprisingly, the burn is shiny and even sparkles in the light of the draco meteor fires.

Ansem retaliates by warping reality itself once more, just to attack his opponent, but this time the most striking thing is the lack of energy pulsing within his throat, ready to be unleashed. He can't harness something that isn't there, and it's not being created for him. He can't stop the movement of his head, bobbing down and forward, or the small glob of spit that falls on Mercury's head, but it's not what was intended. Mercury scowls, though his expression shifts into a surprisingly menacing snarl. He leaps, loosing a feral scream, and lightly smacks Ansem across the face. It barely stings, but Ansem's heart races. It had stopped, for a moment, and pounded in his chest to compensate, and the jerk of his face and shoulders was almost more painful than the strike itself.

.: Actions :.

Ansem radiates a pink aura that twists and warps around him. Splashes of green streak across his aura and spill into the pink, until the pink colour is completely replaced. The pretty lights barely reflect the changes within, though; it's not just energy changing, but Ansem's self. Gone are his natural sensory abilities and his awareness of where everything is around him. Gone is his infinitely malleable mind, which he can extend and wrap around objects with barely a thought. Instead, he gains a new appreciation for the sun, though accompanied by a fear of excess, of water, of soil. Mercury tilts himself, curious about what that might have been, but he doesn't dwell on it. He closes his eyes instead, sharpening his mind so he can see something he usually cannot. Energy flows through his eyes, and even through his eyelids he can sense the truth of everything. If he doesn't focus he might get lost in the truth, but he likes the illusions and only wants to shatter one kind. His eyes snap open, already locked on Ansem.

Show me who you really are.

Ansem doesn't respond, nor does anything in his soul, but nonetheless the message seems to be, I am as you see me. No illusions vanish, no shadows in his soul disappear, no secrets are revealed. Ansem's soul doesn't look like what Mercury expected it would--it's more lively, vivid, resembles leaves and grass and new shoots, when Mercury thought it might be tangled connections and pulsing thoughts racing through wires, maybe, or just a mass of potential--but there's nothing useful, and nothing that would be useful even if he could control what he does next.

Fire leaps from Ansem's fur, and for the first time he feels rising panic at the sight. The fear settles into nervousness when he realises the fire doesn't hurt him, but it refuses to disappear. The flames swirl around him in a curtain, leaving a gap for him to see just long enough for his feet to move on their own and send him flying in a full-bodied tackle into Mercury. His shoulder strikes Mercury's side, burning the togepi's flesh and shell. Ansem lands on his hands and knees, and he curses Mercury's short stature. He is not injured, however, so he brushes himself off and stands.

Another burn... Mercury takes in a deep breath. Their situation could change drastically at any moment, but there's no denying that Ansem has been using more powerful moves so far, and that Ansem is far less injured than Mercury is. The only way Mercury can think of to fix things won't help, but: Heal! The energy that flows into him isn't the kind to soothe his burns or heal his bruises, though. It's cold, and sends a shiver through his whole body. Water leaks out of his skin, even out through his shell, and freezes. He tucks in his feet and paws, then throws himself forward, rolling over rubble and holes. He rolls into Ansem, bounces off, and tumbles back to where he started. Ansem waves his tail, acting like he felt nothing (which is not far from the truth, although the cold was not pleasant). Mercury scowls. Useless!

Ansem raises his fingers and waves them, synchronised, from one side to the other. The strings of fate weave around his fingers, entangled with his body. The warmth of power doesn't just flow into his fingers, this time; something floods through him, burning, fire racing through his arteries. Mercury steps back, eyes wide, feeling something shift in a similar way to the meteors (oh shit oh shit oh shit why does he get all the strong stuff), but he's not fast enough. Ansem glows brilliant white, brighter than his fingers, burning the image into Mercury's mind. Mercury stays frozen.

Everything goes white. The earth rumbles and roars. Something smashes into (through) Mercury, a shockwave that picks him up and hurls him into the side of the CN Tower before he can blink. For a moment Mercury can only think that his body is broken, shattered like the stone wall he's embedded in, shell and bones and even flesh. Then he falls, and the flash of pain tells him that no, he's not yet destroyed, because there is something left to break. It's just a bit softer than usual, like meat beaten to make it easier to chew. Mercury shudders and tries to stand, but fails, so he settles for rolling on his side until he faces his opponent.

Ansem's corpse--for what else could it be?--lies prone on the ground. His skin--there's no skin, or at least not like Mercury's ever seen before. There isn't even a pool of blood, just a layer of reddened flesh, torn and burned. His eyes stare, wider than they ever had been, but they don't move. Mercury closes his own to avoid seeing, not caring if he has to pull off the next move blind, but then the referee calls the end of the match and he opens his eyes in surprise. It's a mistake: Ansem turns darker red, the colour of blood, and liquefies--no, not that, it's just the pokéball. The return beam touches Mercury, too, sucks him back into the warm, safe home, clouds his mind so he doesn't have to see the torn flesh.

The referee surveys the damage with no small amount of amusement. There's the usual crater, of course, in the middle of the street, but the extent of shattered windows is impressive. The CN Tower still stands, though one side is heavily damaged, and the Rogers Dome has a hole in the wall. If there were still people around, they would almost certainly be dead, but the trainers and referee miraculously survive. The whines of sirens, increasingly loud, force the trainers to consider the limits of diplomatic immunity, even if enforced by the might of the ASB League, so the referee hastily hands out the cheques and calls for a league-owned alakazam to teleport them back to Asber, where they can discuss the fickleness of the Random Number Gods and luck at length if they so desire.
