Barubu vs Blastoise

Well, this is awkward. Hey, China, how's life been treating you?

Set up a Light Screen, followed by Energy Ball and then Hidden Power. Use Calm Mind if you can't hit him.

Light Screen ~ Energy Ball/Calm Mind ~ Hidden Power/Calm Mind

Use Shadow Ball unless Light Screen. If and when it does, switch to Faint Attack.

With Eric safely back in his pokéball, Barubu sends out China the Bronzor to continue the fight. The strange, mirror-like Pokémon utters a high-pitched, metallic cry as it materializes on the jello, and floats leisurely in the air.
If its curious about the strange choice of battlefield or the blinding colours, it doesn't show it in its blank, yellow eyes. Although it does spare a glance at the very familar trainer standing opposite. Giving itself a small shake, it then turns to face its opponent, bobbing up and down slightly. Gemini returns its gaze, trying to match its cool demeanor.

Round six

The gems on Gemini’s arms begin to glow brightly as he focuses, and a wall of pure light slowly shimmers into existence. The light screen fades in and out like a mirage before Gemini carefully stabilizes his creation, and the screen becomes a solid, translucent wall.
Looking pleased, Gemini floats back a little to observe his work, while the gems on his arms continue glowing as he maintains the barrier. He then turns his full attention to his opponent, and is somewhat alarmed to see it has apparently gone AWOL.
Gemini is on full alert as he scans the whole arena, trying to figure out where the mirror thingy has gotten to. It isn’t very fast, so it couldn’t have gotten far… There’s an awful lot of distractions about though; the rapid colour changing of the jello is giving him a bit of a headache, and he still needs to keep an eye on his shield. As such, he’s caught completely off guard when China abruptly makes its appearance from behind, bashing into the startled Elgyem while shrouded in dark energy.

Gemini winces as the darkness bites into his skin, and he quickly floats away from the expressionless Bronzor while shaking his fist. More underhanded tactics! He expected better from a fellow psychic. Well, he’s not going to let this one stand either. Narrowing his eyes, Gemini holds his arms forward, and the markings on his head glow a deep, earthy green. A glistening orb of grass energy appears in front of him, slowly rotating in the air as it grows in brightness and size. The Elygem makes a throwing motion, and the orb hurtles towards the psychic floating opposite him, bursting into a spray of grassy energy as it connects.
China emits a small series of screechy, metallic sounds, then gives itself a brief shake and goes back to calmly floating. Gemini is a little disappointed at the lack of reaction his attack inspired, but he doesn’t have time to dwell on it; the strange mirror Pokémon seems to have disappeared again. Gemini blinks rapidly, then looks around in frustration. He managed to catch it in the act of disappearing this time, but it doesn’t help him much, he just saw it melt into a haze of shadows. As he tries to stay on the alert, China reappears behind him in a shroud of shadowy energy. Before the unwitting Elgyem can turn around, China collides into him again with gusto, knocking him off-balance. The shadowy remnants of its attack cause more grief for Gemini, and he struggles to get some distance between him and his opponent.

Trying to keep himself calm, Gemini focuses on drawing upon his hidden power and hoping he gets something decent. He closes his eyes and concentrates, and an eerie, greenish-blue aura surrounds his body. Soon enough, small orbs of a similar colour to the aura shimmer into life around him, rapidly rotating and blinking in and out. When Gemini opens his eyes again, he swings his arms out and sends the glowing orbs streaming towards China in a widespread arc.
The Bronzor emits more metallic sounds, presumably of pain, as the orbs collide with it in a burst of light. However, Gemini is again disappointed as China seems equally as unfazed by his attack. It simply gives itself a brief shake and disappears for the third time into a mass of shadows.
Like last time, Gemini tries his best to stay alert and keep an eye out for it, but is left feeling even more frustrated as it somehow manages to sneak up behind him again. He's sent falling through the air, frantically batting away the excess dark energy burning into his skin, and sending a few choice words in China's direction. The Bronzor doesn't give any indication that it hears him however, nor does it give any indication that its happy about how things are going or not.
While both battlers take a small breather, the rapid colour changing of the jello begins to draw a halt. After a few more flickers of colour, it settles on blueberry, and loses its floating properties in the process. Gemini flails in the air for a moment before he's sent falling back onto the springy ground. China remains airborne however, still looking on with her incomprehensible gaze.

Round seven

After a few moments of trying to make sense of his trainer's rage filled words, the irritated Gemini prepares to put a halt to his opponent's repetitive tactics. He glares over at the Bronzor, his green eyes dulling to an eerie grey, and everything seems to slow to a halt for a moment.
China suddenly freezes, seemingly confused or just dumbstruck, and finds that it suddenly has no knowledge of how to perform its main command. It shivers a little before Gemini finally drops that creepy gaze, then quickly makes the decision to change tack.
It slowly starts to generate an ethereal ball of shadowy energy, gradually building its power until it reaches an acceptable mass. It fires the jagged sphere at the glaring Elygem, but it noticeably seems to slow down and diminish in size as it passes through Gemini’s glimmering barrier. He still winces as it strikes him, but recovers quicker than before.

Though still in pain, Gemini feels a little more confident after seeing the effects of his shield. Also, it’s nice to have his opponent in plain sight this time. Narrowing his eyes, Gemini holds one arm forward as the markings on his head glow a vivid yellow. Sparks crackle furiously around his outstretched arm, gradually building in intensity until he lets loose the powerful bolt of electricity.
This time, his attack has a more noticeable effect on China: the Bronzor’s metallic cry is louder and more urgent sounding, and it careens through the air as the sparks engulf its small form. When the crackling torrent fades, China is left floating listlessly for a few moments, before it slowly rises upwards again. Another shadowy mass forms in front of it as it draws upon the ghostly energy, before it sends the eerie blot zig-zagging towards Gemini. Again, it diminishes noticeably as it passes through Gemini’s protective wall, before it spirals into him with a ghostly hiss.

Wearily batting away the lingering remnants of the ghostly attack, Gemini holds out his arms, and his markings glow vividly once again. The familiar bolt of crackling electricity springs to life in front of his hand, before he sends the vicious thunderbolt spiraling towards China.
The Bronzor's tiny form is once again engulfed in the current, and it writhes about in the air as the electricity overwhelms it. When the the sparks eventually fade away, China utters a small, robotic sounding cry before it rises up to a favourble height again. Its expression is still pretty much unreadable, but Gemini is pretty sure it wasn't happy about those thunderbolts.
Staring at Gemini with its blank eyes, China begins to form a third mass of ghostly energy, then sends it on its erratic way. The shadow ball weakens as it passes the light screen, but Gemini still winces as the shadows burn into his skin. He's really starting to feel the hurt now, and wishes he could keep his light screen around for longer.
As the round ends, the jello slowly shimmers and shakes, then changes from a deep blue to a fiery red. The two battlers don't pay much attention to the minor change this time though.

Round eight

Gemini takes a deep breath to calm himself down, and carefully begins to charge up a small current of sparks. Things really aren’t going his way at the moment, but he’s not about to give up just yet...
Scowling over at the hovering Bronzor, Gemini’s head markings flash yellow as he sends a small pulse of electricity flowing towards his opponent. The tiny bolt speeds towards China and quickly engulfs it in a crackling wave of immobilizing sparks. China gives off a series of loud clanging sounds as the thunder wave grips it, and its gentle bobbing quickly becomes erratic and jerky. It’s also left hovering somewhat lopsidedly in the air, and its attempts to right itself prove useless.
China quickly falls silent again, and remains floating in its awkward position, staring over at its foe with its yellow eyes. Gemini can’t help but notice that there’s something different about its gaze this time though; it actually looks somewhat… annoyed this time. Or is he imagining things? Feeling somewhat intrigued and unnerved, Gemini can’t help staring back, and China immediately takes its chance. Its eyes turn from yellow to red as it amps up the hypnotic suggestions its sending towards Gemini, and the Elgyem suddenly finds himself helpless to look away. He flails about hopelessly for a few moments in an attempt to escape China’s hypnotic gaze, but eventually succumbs to the desire to sleep.

As Gemini lies dozing comfortably on the jello, his shimmering shield slowly fades away, leaving him defenceless. China floats a little closer to him, and its eyes change colour again, this time to a bright pink.
As its eyes glow, it taps into its fellow psychic’s mind and targets his dream. Gemini’s content expression quickly changes as China devours his thoughts, and he writhes about with an annoyed look on his face. China gives a small beep as it finishes off the tasty dream, then backs away a little to survey its opponent’s state. Not quite as tasty as it could have been, thanks to Gemini’s natural resistances, but a pleasant snack nonetheless.

While Gemini continues sleeping (though not as well as before), China prepares to send another shadow ball heading his way. Unfortunately, its having noticeable difficulty; the paralysis gripping its small form is taking its toll, and China is left hanging uselessly in the air. It gives itself several shakes in an attempt to get moving, but the electricity has jammed up its inner workings for the moment.
As the round ends on a quiet note, the jello begins to shimmer again as it it takes on an explosive new flavour.

Round nine

After a few moments of general pain and discomfort, China manages to regain control of itself again. Its still hovering lopsidedly, but it can move at least, and it quickly tries to take advantage of its regained mobility while it can.
As Gemini lies dozing, China looms overhead and begins to generate a swirling orb of ghostly energy, which it quickly sends spiraling towards him. The shadowy missile blasts into Gemini in a spray of black and purple, drawing a pained but sleepy cry from him and leaving a blackened mark on his side.

Gemini is stirring worse than before now, and seems to be on the verge of waking, so China tries to get a move on while it can. Unfortunately, as it hovers forward, its body suddenly seizes up again painfully, and the Bronzor utters a loud clang as it frantically struggles in the air.
As China veers about erratically, Gemini awakens from his troubled sleep, blinking blearily. He winces as he slowly stands up again, and gives himself a quick shake to regain his bearings. He doesn't feel any better from that involuntary nap, in fact, he feels worse. He's pretty sure he knows who the culprit is too.
The Elygem's eyes glow fiercely as he glares at the struggling Bronzor, and he raises his fists as he suddenly charges towards it with an angry cry. China utters a startled beeping noise as Gemini leaps up at it and begins pummeling away viciously, bashing it with his fists and head-butting it with his large head. When he's finished venting, Gemini backs away, breathing heavily, but feeling slightly better. It doesn't change his dire situation, but at least he got a bit of revenge.

China is left hovering listlessly, seemingly still in shock over the unexpectedly vicious attack. Its armoured form softened the barrage somewhat, but it was still surprising to see a psychic go for an up close and personal physical attack.
It's apparent that Gemini isn't done with the pummeling yet either, as he immediately rushes towards China again as soon as he's caught his breath. He again vents his frustration on the tiny mirror by bashing it mercilessly with his fists and kicking with his stubby legs. China makes an annoyed clanging sound, but bears the onslaught until Gemini finally backs off.
Now that the surprise has worn off, China recovers quicker this time, and resists the urge to make fun of Gemini's lack of upper body strength. (Machines can be comedians too when they want to) Hoping its paralyzed form won't play up, China slowly generates another inky black projectile, and sends it zooming towards Gemini. The Elgyem's former bravado quickly fades as the shadow ball slams into him in a mass of ethereal energy. He can only manage a weak cry as he slumps down on the jello, with two painful black marks on his body.
Meanwhile, the jello begins to shimmer and shake, and the explosive goodess fades away to boring old red again.

Round ten

Gemini grimaces and struggles forward again, hoping to vent his discomfort on that horrible mirror. Every movement is an immense effort, and the blackened marks on his body send a jolt of pain through his body with each step. He glares up at the Bronzor, but it doesn’t return his gaze; it appears to be busy with… something. Gemini could care less what it is though, and he quickly begins pummelling China with all his might. The steel Pokémon lets out a metallic beep which each strike, and it quickly tries to float out of reach.
When Gemini finally relents, China hesitantly floats a little closer, and then begins emitting a series of clanging noises that almost sound like a chant of some sort. A glaring red aura surrounds its small form, which quickly spreads outwards to Gemini. The Elgyem panics a little and tries to wave it away, but the aura doesn’t appear to be physically harmful; it instead seems to weigh heavily on Gemini’s mind, blocking off some of his knowledge.

Gemini frowns and shakes his head, not at all liking the horrible feeling that strange aura caused. He feels like he’s forgetting something…
He doesn’t have time to dwell on it though, as China is charging up yet another blob of ethereal energy. Gemini reacts as quickly as he can, and as China fires the shadow ball, his form blurs and distorts; and he vanishes in a bright flash of purple light. China gives a small beep and turns away from the bright light, then turns back again in time to see its shadow ball go speeding far off into the distance. As it looks around in confusion, Gemini suddenly reappears behind it in another flash of blinding light, breathing heavily from the effort of using so much psychic energy, but obviously unharmed by the attack.

China emits a loud beep, perhaps of anger, and immediately begins charging up another shadow ball attack. Gemini cringes as he sees the all too familiar move, and tries to prepare himself to dodge. His form shimmers and blurs again, but due to the terrible state he's in, Gemini's concentration slips, and he miscalculates the move. The shadow ball slams into him before he moves, completely bowling him over.
The Elgyem can only manage a weak cry as he flops onto the jello with another blackened mark on his body. China cautiously floats closer, and it quickly realises that Gemini isn't going to be retaliating: he's out for the count.

The Bronzor gives off a series of cheery wind-chime like sounds as the referee signals the end of the battle. Cursing his luck, Blastoise recalls the drained Elgyem and congratulates Barubu on nearly causing him to have a break-down.
As Barubu praises China and recalls it for a well-earned rest, Byrus' Machop and Timburr both pop out of their pokéballs again, eager to help the trainers get down from the jello. Unfortunately, they're disappointed when all three trainers bluntly refuse their help and instead opt for a flying Pokémon instead. Much less bruises and broken bones that way.

Battle notes

- I treated teleport similar to protect, so Blastoise just got really unlucky when it failed on the second go. (I had Gemini's low health and energy play a factor too though) I calculated the energy for it as 3% plus half of the damage it would have took from the attack it dodged.
- Also, that's not how imprison works. It seals off the moves that the user has used in the battle, preventing the opponent from using them. I think you might have been thinking of disable, which can also be used to immobilize the foe.

PRIZES WHOO

Blastoise gets $6, Barubu gets $16 and I get $10. Eric, China and Gemini get two experience points, while Deadly Red gets one. Good game guys. Hope I wasn't too terrible with reffing this one.
