Legendaryseeker99 vs Zhorken

Fuck this.
We're going out with a bang.
Should've done this earlier, but Haze the place to rid yourself of that nasty Sp. Attack decrease. Then, punt that insect into the fakey fake clone of your beloved with Psychic, and try to get them both in the lava. Unless you can't stand to injure the imitation, then just chuck Valicorth into the lava. /Really hard./ Finally, posess Valicorth.

Round six

With the water type finally out of the way and her coat drying off quickly, Djalené's confidence begins to return. She spares a cautious glance over at the love-addled Litwick, then prepares to set up some defence before she begins the beat-down. She breathes out a thin stream of flame which twists and writhes in the air, before settling into the vague shape of a Vulpix. She finishes by breathing some life into the fiery creation, and its hollow eye sockets light up with a bright light. Sparks of fire leap from the substitute’s blazing form as it takes a step forward, and it places itself protectively in front of Djalené, ready to shield her from harm.

Umbra looks uncertainly at his opponents, at a loss at what to do. He certainly didn't appreciate Mercury's hostility towards Djalené, but now that he's out of the game, the Litwick can't help but feel uneasy. He gives a hacking cough, then opens his mouth to emit a stream of thick, cloying mist. The black fog creeps forward, rapidly expanding across the arena and shrouding it in its clammy grip. Umbra closes his eyes as he feels the haze surround him, leaving his spectral form feeling numb and slightly colder. Strangely enough, its numbing effect even seems to work its way into his mind, leaving him feeling a bit addled as he tries to come to terms with his emotions. Unfortunately, the fog is also sapping away his former limberness; numbing his body and making him feel slow and sluggish again.

Valicorth remains relaxing on the ashy ground, but he opens one eye as he feels the cold mist settling around him. He shivers and curls up a little, then tries to squint through the oppressive haze to see what’s going on, but with little success. The ash was bad enough, and now this clammy fog is making things even worse. He scowls, then struggles to catch sight of his partner through the mess, and manages to pick her out by her bright coat and the fiery glow of her substitute beside her. He keeps an eye on her to check she’s faring alright, but he’s pretty sure she’s got this covered.

Djalené winces as the damp settles into her coat, and she tries to move a little closer to the lava to regain the warmth. Even if the roaring heat of the lava reduces its icy touch, she still doesn’t appreciate it. She can spot the Litwick by his blazing flame crackling merrily away, but the haze is pretty tricky, so she decides she may as well play it safe with a faint attack. She slowly begins to melt away into the shadows, retreating into the distorted reverse world as she prepares to attack.

She easily creeps up behind Umbra, surveying the unsuspecting ghost carefully as she prepares to strike. Much as she hates to be a heart-breaker, she’s got a battle to win. She bares her fangs and abruptly bursts from the shadows, her body shrouded in an inky black aura. Umbra’s eyes widen in hurt and shock as she collides with him, allowing the blackened tendrils around her to reach forth and burn him with their dark energy.

Umbra can really feel himself beginning to panic now; he’s out here all alone, he's in terrible shape, and Djalené is suddenly acting hostile. He peers through the haze, and barely manages to spot the immobile form of the beastly bug. He doesn’t seem to be up to much, so he makes a good target, even if the haze is clogging things up. Umbra closes his eyes and forces himself to concentrate, then reaches out towards Val with his mind, hoping to get a grip on him. Valicorth’s eyes snap open and he gives a startled squeak as he is roughly hoisted up into the air, then roughly flung forward. He strikes Djalené's substitute, and both are sent tumbling across the ground. Valicorth squeaks madly as he connects with the sub's fiery form, but the fire it's composed of proves to be a weak flame used for creating instead of attacking. The Venipede gives a sigh of relief, while Umbra curses in frustration. He really did struggle hard to push both of them in, but it ultimately proved to be a bit much for him.

Looking a little unsteady, Valicorth clumsily rolls back onto his feet, then scuttles away to find a safer spot to chill out. Djalené glowers as she examines the damage done to her substitute, then swiftly retreats into the shadows again as she prepares to strike back. Umbra gives a wail of pain as she suddenly appears in front of him and slams into him, sending him reeling backwards.

Umbra groans and wavers unsteadily, his waxy form looking sunken and even drippier than usual. He looks at the retreating Djalené with a wounded expression, but there certainly doesn't appear to be any sympathy in her eyes this time; just pure determination. The hurt ghost wearily moves forward, trying to get his mind back in the game, then warily approaches Valicorth, who is curled out and relaxing again. The Litwick's form gradually becomes fainter and shimmery, before he dissolves into the Venipede and out of view. Valicorth immediately jolts upright, and a fiery blue aura of ghostly energy flares up around him as his eyes begin to burn with a blazing yellow light. Djalené's eyes widen as she sees her partner's creepy transformation, and she paces around him in agitation, wishing she could get her paws on that stupid spook.

Despite the unnerving scenario, Djalené does feel herself relax a little as the last of the cloying haze fades away into feeble black wisps. Hopefully it'll be a little easier to fix this mess now that she can see clearly.

Battle notes

- Sorry for the delay, just had some bad writer's block with this one, and the other battles I'm reffing had very short DQ times.
- I'd imagine it'd be extremely difficult for a first stage non-psychic Pokémon to knock two targets flying in the right direction. He did manage to damage Val and the substitute together though, but the damage was reduced, similar to moves that always strike both Pokémon (like blizzard).
- A ghost can't hear orders when it's possessing something, so you need to order ahead of time. Therefore, Umbra will rematerialize from Val on the next action.
- Since haze technically reduces visibility, Djalené went with faint attack.
- The haze faded away by the end of the round.
- Legendaryseeker99 attacks first.

Bluh, we're losing.
The first time you can, Pain Split Valicorth or Vulpix, whichever you can access first, i.e. not Protected/ with Sub/ect. Psychic the fake Vulpix into the ground, then Trick Room. Hidden Power Valicorth last.
If you're Taunted on the second action, Flame Burst Valicorth; if you're Taunted when you would Pain Split, follow through on your other orders.

Psychic @Vulpix clone/Pain Split~Trick Room/Pain Split/Flame Burst @Valicorth~Hidden Power @Valicorth/Pain Split

(Why did the Haze dissipate so quick? It apparently dissipates very slowly, which would mean probably at least four or five actions, if not more)

PAUSE

ghosts don't resist poison! unless this is some asb term.

UNSNOP

Yyyes they do? Not the status, but poison is not very effective against ghost.

OKAY, TIME TO FINISH AS A TEAM. One Hex and one Venoshock should take him out, so start throwing attacks as soon as he emerges. On the off-chance they don't, keep throwing attacks at him, because even if he manages a Pain Split he's pretty much screwed and I don't feel like strategizing right now.

Djalène: Hex ×3
Val: Venoshock ×3

Round seven

Djalené bares her fangs in a snarl as she anxiously waits for the troublesome spirit to make his reappearance. Valicorth remains frozen on the spot, his unnatural yellow eyes burning with a ghostly light. Djalené jumps a little as Val suddenly begins to scramble about erratically, his antenna flicking madly as he aimlessly loops about. Finally, he slows to a halt, and the fiery glow in his eyes fades away as a puzzled and weary looking Umbra shimmers into existence beside him.

Djalené's ears perk up as she sees the ghost emerge, and she immediately advances on him, ready to make him pay. She mutters the words to a ghastly hex, and a thick, black cloud begins to descend upon Umbra, binding him in its suffocating folds. As Umbra cries out in pain, Valicorth dazedly stumbles forward, still trying to regain his bearings. He grumbles to himself and shakes his head, then scrambles round to see where Umbra's yells are coming from.

Djalené points him in the right direction, and he viciously spits out a hissing glob of potent toxins into the hex cloud, aiming for the Litwick within. Umbra gives an extra loud wail as the venom adds to his troubles, but his cries gradually begin to weaken even as the spell around him fades. Djalené and Valicorth exchange glances, then warily eye the diminishing darkness, both tensed for a potential attack.

As the last wisps of black fade away, a very melty looking Litwick is visible through the haze of ash, his head-flame reduced to a feeble ember.

Djalené and Valicorth both give weary cheers as their defeated opponent is zapped back into his pokéball. They would totally give each other a high-five too, if it wasn't for their lack of hands. As the Vulpix and Venipede happily dart around each other, Legendaryseeker and Zhorken both shake hands, and the usual pleasantries and oaths of vengeance are exchanged. Finally, the ref releases his Abra to teleport everybody out of this scorching hot place before they get fried any further.

Battle notes

- I had haze fade a little early because I figured damp fog wouldn't last too long in a boiling hot lava pit.
- Ghost's resistance to poison changed throughout the generations, so I can understand the confusion.

Well, I think that's it. Zhorken gets $16, Legendaryseeker99 gets $6, and I get $10.

Djalené gets 3 exp, while Valicorth gets 5, thanks to his lucky egg. Mercury and Umbra both get one.
