- Round Start -

Heavy Arms took a moment to dust herself off before settling down to concentrate, humming a cheerful tune as she did so. Right, Calm Mind. She could do that! She already felt fairly calm to begin with, although she was shivering a little bit with anticipation of the battle. Her first one! So exciting! She wondered if the other Pokemon was excited, too. She couldn't tell with such a stoic-looking Pokemon, but it probably was, how could it not be? But she had to calm down for now. Taking a deep breath, Heavy Arms closed her eyes, clearing her mind of all thoughts of excitement or anxiety and trying instead to imagine comforting things. A soft down blanket, or a hug from her trainer at the end of the battle - well, hopefully. Maybe if she won. No, her trainer would want to hug her if she lost, too, wouldn't ve? Klutzershy was a good trainer! Heavy Arms shook her head and refocused herself from the distracting thoughts, thinking only of blackness. She shivered again as a new power coursed through her. When she opened her eyes again, her fur felt glossier and she was more focused - maybe it was enough to help her win! Maybe. Before she could reflect on that too much, though, a dark glow caught her attention from across the battlefield. Heavy Arms turned to look, and she was struck by a spinning dizzy feeling in her head. Then the connection broke and Heavy Arms stumbled backward, shaking her head. What was that? It hadn't done anything to her, not really, but it was weird. As she looked back up, she saw the Staryu slowing spinning in place, its limbs drooping as if tied down by weights. And then it very suddenly halted in place, shimmering with a dazzling light that didn't suit it at all.

Shaking her head, Heavy Arms forced herself to regain her composure. She folded her ears back and focused the negative energy into glowing sparks of static. They crawled to a point between her ears and circled until they made a small glowing sphere, which she held for just a moment before releasing. The crackling sphere broke into a strand of sparkling electricity that flew at her opponent with a loud electric crack as it crashed against the Staryu's gem. Heavy Arms found herself feeling sort of impressed when it didn't even cry out - could Staryu cry out? - just backing a few steps away before straightening. Was it okay to do this, though...? Trying to ignore her sympathy for the other Pokemon, Heavy Arms got ready to charge another Thunderbolt, but the Staryu's gem was glowing again. A series of blue rings flew out toward her and phased through her fur, and then there was a sort of eerie buzzing in her head. Heavy Arms cringed as the buzzing seemed to solidify, walling off something in her head. It didn't hurt, but it felt all wrong, and like it was stopping her from something... But what? She shook her head again. It didn't matter, did it? Even if she couldn't remember how, she had clearly done the most damage this round! Maybe she'd get that hug after all.

- Round Start -

This battle was maybe sort of going well. Heavy Arms hoped. It seemed like she had done a lot of damage, and yet her opponent looked the same as ever. Actually, the same as ever didn't look that good... Pisaster was still all droopy. But if that was how it normally was, was she even making any progress? Maybe. Well, she could keep--before she could finish the thought, a torrent of water slammed into her, sending her sliding across the stage. When she looked up again, she saw that it hadn't been just water; a cascade was melting away from Pisaster's form, evaporating after the water-tackle. Well, that was hardly fair at all! She had been trying to give herself a pep talk, and Pisaster didn't even care! She could just... Heavy Arms took a deep breath. No, she shouldn't do anything until she was calmed back down. Attacking in anger wouldn't win her this battle! The Minccino closed her eyes, taking several long, deep breaths as she erased the memory of the Waterfall from her mind. Just like last time, she felt a sort of heightened mental state when she looked back up... to see Pisaster collecting more water from the bucket in front of itself! That was sort of scary, but Heavy Arms collected her newfound calmness and focused her energy until a blue shimmer appeared before her, spiraling around her body. Just as it finished, an intimidatingly large wave of water bore down upon her and she flinched back involuntarily, but it only splashed harmlessly against her shield. What a relief!

All Pisaster wanted to do was sink into some deep mud and not have to think about anything ever again. It was clearly losing, just like all the other battles it had had against any Pokemon that was the tiniest bit tough. It couldn't even beat this Minccino when she had had her strongest attack Disabled. What was wrong with it? Its limbs drooped even further down as it focused its energy on its opponent once more, hoping to get just a little of Heavy Arms's obvious cheer from the connection as she bounced and hummed. There was a brief buzzing in Pisaster's head, and it felt its body soften just slightly, but the glow of its gem intensified with extra power. It would have let out a sigh if it could have. That was part of the trouble - Staryu could look only just barely emotional (not like all the "cute" Pokemon, like the one right across the stage), and thus no one cared how Pisaster felt. No one ever had. Just then, Pisaster heard something like a light tapping sound and turned; Heavy Arms was... clapping? Was that an attack? "Yay, Pisaster! That was amazing!" Amazing...? The Psych Up? "I believe in you! If you keep trying I'm sure you'll ace that move!" As if by magic, a new warmth spread through Pisaster's limbs, bringing them up straight for the first time in... its whole life, really. Those shiny eyes were for Pisaster alone. The Staryu couldn't believe it. Newly energized, it made a few quick spins, lighter than ever now on its feet. If Heavy Arms had found that impressive, maybe she would find it even more so if it really put some effort into it! Perhaps it had finally found its calling!
