Sage Noctowl vs ultraviolet

Get up there before her - you should be able to, you're naturally faster than she is - and as soon as you see her up there, use Frustration - try to knock her out of the tree, if you can. If you don't manage to, use Double Kick. If you do, Protect yourself from her Swagger and relax a little; your taunt should have worn off by then. If at any time she knocks you out of the trees, climb back up.

Round six

As the sky begins to darken again, the small audience of Sentrets scatters completely, dashing towards the trees. The algae itself darkens considerably, much to both battler’s dismay.

Even in her blind rage, Gwen is unable to ignore the horrible stinging, and it does nothing to help her now foul mood. Poochyena cringes, shifting from one paw to the other, as she limps painfully across the mass of dangerous plantlife.
Any hope Poochyena had of managing to sneak past Gwen while she was distracted by the algae is quickly dashed; the Nidoran immediately makes a break for her, claws at the ready. Poochyena whimpers, and starts her climb as quick as she can, but her weakened state makes things much more difficult than last time. The jump she makes at the trunk doesn’t take her far, and she digs her claws in desperately, horribly aware of the enraged Nidoran breathing down her neck.
Gwen lashes out furiously at Poochyena, drawing fearful whimpers from the unfortunate target. However, it spurs the Poochyena to move faster, drawing upon her dwindling energy to frantically make her way up. Although Gwen is much more interested in attacking the disrespectful mutt rather than climbing, she reluctantly starts to follow her up when Poochyena is out of reach. A brief race ensues as a frightened Poochyena struggles to keep out of Gwen’s reach while the Nidoran doggedly pursues her.
When Poochyena finally makes it to a branch, she clings on tightly, looking terrible and feeling horribly sick. However, the sight of her enraged foe latched onto the very same branch as her is even worse.

Now backed into a corner, the injured Poochyena struggles to show a bit of courage, and begins growling feebly. Her half-hearted attempt at intimidation does nothing to deter Gwen however, and the Nidoran is more than ready to unleash her anger.
With an angry snarl, Gwen pummels into Poochyena, slashing and biting with even more vigour than before. Poochyena howls in pain, struggling to keep herself on the branch while preparing for a counter attack. Gwen doesn’t make things easy, and the brutal blows she dishes out threaten to send both Pokémon over the edge. A brief struggle ensues as Poochyena tries to fend her off, but after Gwen deals Poochyena another reckless punch, both battlers lose their footing. Gwen shrieks in surprise, scrabbling madly at the branch, while the exhausted and battered Poochyena barely manages to hold out a paw.
Both are sent tumbling to the ground in a tangled heap. Gwen grimaces as she feels the familiar sting of the acidic plant, and struggles up again, untangling herself from a few stray strands. Her breathing is a little heavy, but she feels much better after venting her frustration, even if it didn’t go quite according to plan. As she looks round, she is surprised at how badly hurt her opponent looks; she must have attacked more viciously than she thought. In fact…
The battered Poochyena is covered with cuts and bruises and is sprawled out on the algae, making no move to get up. Looking worried, Sage Noctowl quickly recalls her back into her pokéball, praising her efforts. He then considers who to send out next…

As the sun begins to rise on the island again, Sage Noctowl chooses his next Pokémon, hoping to finally take down the feisty Nidoran. In a flash of light, Gwen’s new opponent appears on the algae: a Mudkip. Keith flicks his finned tail, giving his surroundings a quick look and gurgling happily as he notices the large, glistening pools of water.
As his gaze falls on his opponent, Gwen growls at him, her poisonous barbs bristling as she tries to look more confident than she feels. Keith is a little cautious at first, but takes heart as he notices her weakened state. He steps forward, unflinching, and gets himself ready.
A small audience of Sentrets descend from the trees as they notice the new arrival, looking at him with interest. Neither battler pays them any heed, their concentration focused solely on each other.

Round seven

Gwen is the first to break eye contact, and the tired but determined Nidoran takes off in a sprint, moving around in a half arc. Two illusionary copies flicker into existence, mimicking their creator’s dash and halting at the same time Gwen does.
As Gwen turns her attention back to Keith, her ears prick up in alarm as she sees that the Mudkip’s eyes are glowing an eerie red. As a translucent beam of light suddenly shoots out from Keith’s gaze, she is unable to suppress a startled yelp at the bizarre sight. That’s definitely not normal… she thinks, cringing a little.
Keith slowly steps forward, a look of intense concentration on his face. He sweeps the red beam across the three Nidorans, scrutinizing each one closely. As the light passes through each fake, the illusion flickers and distorts before completely disappearing.

Gwen looks disgruntled at the early loss of her clones, and the Mudkip’s smug look doesn’t help. Her barbs bristle again as static electricity arcs around her, crackling loudly. She moves forward, sending the bolt crashing towards Keith in a stormy spiral of sparks. Keith winces as he sees the bolt heading for him, but holds his ground, and Gwen notices that the air around his body is rippling and distorting. As the thunderbolt strikes Keith, the shimmering coat surrounding him takes on a glowing array of bright colours that seem to grow more intense as the bolt engulfs him in crackling sparks.
Crying out, Keith lurches forward, and his shimmering coat becomes a projectile, streaming towards Gwen in a dazzling array of colours. Gwen screeches in surprise as the rebounded attack slams into her, sending her flying and temporarily blinding her. As she slowly gets back up, her body is covered with raw, burn like marks, and she is left looking unsteady and weary.

Keith glares at his foe as she regains her composure, and quickly assumes a defensive position. He flicks his tailfin nervously in anticipation for another electric assault. He’s still looking a tad sizzled from the last one, but if it’s for the greater good…
Scowling, Gwen struggles forward, electricity snaking around her barbs and whiskers. Although she’s trying to put on a brave face, the pain is definitely starting to get to her, and she is noticeably limping and wincing with each movement.
With a feeble cry, she sends another bolt of crackling electricity crashing towards Keith. The Mudkip crouches down, his expression grim, and the air around his body once again begins to ripple and distort like a mirage. When the thunderbolt strikes, it crackles and snakes around his body, causing him to cry out again, but not to lose his stance. The coat surrounding him flares up in another bright display, and he blasts it at Gwen in a rainbow coloured beam.
Gwen’s ears droop as she sees the reflected attack heading for her again, and she is completely lifted off her feet as it sends her flying. When the blinding colours fade, the burn marks on her body are left looking rawer than before, and it begins to look like she isn’t getting up again. Keith looks at her expectantly, but is disappointed when he sees her manage to slowly and shakily raise herself upright. The Nidoran is just barely managing to stay on her feet, her face is contorted in pain and she is left panting heavily.
Keith is left looking surprisingly weary too after such an explosive round. Reflecting the strong attacks seems to have taken a lot out of him, but it was worth the effort, if Gwen's condition is any indication.

Round eight

As the island grows dark again and the Sentrets retreat to the trees, the algae itself also takes on a darker hue. Keith looks up curiously, then utters a startled yelp as the algae beneath him begins to burn his feet with its horrible, acidic sting. Already used to the process, Gwen grits her teeth against the horrible sensation, struggling to keep going.
Keith hops about in agitation, unpleasantly surprised at the bizarre development, and wastes no time in heading for the nearest tree. Looking extremely uncertain, he takes a half-hearted leap at the trunk and struggles to get a grip. His stubby paws aren’t exactly equipped for climbing, and the Mudkip is noticeably having a lot of trouble as he awkwardly scrambles up the trunk.
Gwen, too weak to do much about her discomfort, watches his gradual progress with bleary eyes. Just raising her head seems to take a huge effort for the weary Nidoran, but she struggles to plough on. Slowly, the barbs on back begin to stand on end again, as sparks of electricity fizzle and crackle in brief spurts. With a feeble cry, she sends the sparks shooting forwards in a wave of crackling electricity. The shock wave spreads outwards and strikes the ascending Mudkip, drawing a shriek of pain as it crackles and hisses around him. Keith struggles to hold on as the charge runs through him, cringing and shivering a little from the pain. It’s only been two rounds and he’s already seriously sick of being fried like that. He just barely manages to lift his aching body onto a low hanging branch, grumbling all the way.
As he angrily turns around to look back at Gwen, he is surprised to see her sprawled out on the ground in a tangle of algae, looking even worse than before. The acidic plant seems to have been the last straw for the shattered Nidoran, and ultraviolet quickly recalls her back to her Pokéball to give her a well earned rest.

As the rising sun begins to shed light on the island once again, ultraviolet selects another Pokéball and tosses it near one of the trees. A pitch black bird Pokémon with a hooked, crooked beak appears, stretching out his wings and uttering a haughty caw. At his trainer’s instructions, he gives a quick flap of his wings before taking off into the air to perch comfortably on a branch, peering down on his foe.
Keith looks up at his new opponent warily, and decides that he definitely doesn’t like the look of him. He tenses himself, craning his neck to keep an eye on the little black bird.

Round nine

As night rapidly turns to day, Cro quickly starts things off; he rapidly flutters his wings and snaps his beak, generating weak jolts of electric energy. The electricity crackles as it snakes around him, before he unleashes the small pulse at Keith by flapping his wings forward.
The electricity travels forward rapidly, catching Keith as he is about to run, and gripping his body in a bout of paralysis. The Mudkip winces as his muscles become uncomfortably numb, and has to take a moment to test his limbs. Eventually, he does manage to venture forward, albeit more slowly and with more difficulty. As he reaches the pool, he hops in with a splash, feeling a sense of relief upon meeting the cool water. He shoves a dead Magikarp away as he dives down further, and out of sight for the most part.

Cro gives an indignant caw as he sees his foe retreat, but his high vantage point allows him to faintly see the Mudkip’s shape shimmering in the water. It’s not a particularly clear view however, and the occasional Magikarp corpse drifting around doesn’t help matters.
Cro gives an irritated squawk before hopping to the edge of his perch, then begins slowly waving his wings, glaring in his opponent’s general direction. Small, eerie orbs of light slowly form in the wake of his movement, dancing about erratically. Thrusting his wings forward again, Cro sends the ghostly light spiralling towards the part of the pool Keith is residing in, hoping for the best. The glittering display descends towards the water, dancing and zigzagging above the surface. As Keith happens to look up, he notices a faint outline of something extra shiny shimmering just above the surface. He looks up at it curiously, squinting his eyes and paddling a little closer. However, it seems to fade away into nothingness before he can get a closer look.
For some reason, Keith can’t help but feel a little disappointed that the sparkly display vanished so soon, but he decides not to dwell on it, and instead focuses on munching on some tasty plant life. Straining his locked up muscles and silently hoping they don’t fail him, Keith paddles towards the edge of the pool and tears off a loose strip of algae. He chews on it happily, surprised at the pleasant taste and relishing the little boost it gives him. As he swallows the last of the plant, he allows himself to sink to the bottom, stretching out his legs.

Cro leans over his branch as far as he can go, squinting as he tries to pick out the faint outline of his foe in the water. It would help if the stupid Sentret would quit scampering around and obscuring his view. And why do they only seem to move the Magikarp that aren’t in his way?
As yet another Sentret drags a drifting fish away to feast upon, Cro sighs and stretches out his wings. He’ll just have to bring the fight to his opponent then. Uttering a low and threatening caw, he begins to slowly and rhythmically flap his darkened wings. He closes his eyes and bows his crested head, seeming to be in deep concentration. Abruptly, bright orbs of energy flare up around his body in a circle, rapidly arcing around him. The colours of the orbs rapidly change in a dizzying display, but a bright yellow seems to be the dominant colour. As the orbs crackle and fizz, Cro quickly raises his head and unleashes the built up energy with a loud screech, sending the orbs barrelling towards the pool.
Keith looks up as he notices more light at the surface of his watery hideaway, and his expression turns to one of alarm as he quickly realises these lights aren’t so harmless. Most of the energy flies wide of its intended target, but some of it plunges into the water, striking the startled Mudkip with a crackling hiss. A stream of bubbles escapes Keith’s mouth as he utters a silent cry of shock, although the attack has noticeably lost a lot of steam from its transition, it still packs quite a spark. Shaking his head to clear it, Keith slowly swims towards the side of the pool again, straining his stiff limbs and wiling himself forward. He tears off another strip of algae, chewing away and feeling considerably cheered as he feels a little bit of energy returning to him. As he finishes the plant off, he looks up at the surface of the water and wonders what his opponent is up to.
His opponent in question isn’t very pleased. He impatiently hops up and down the branch, straining his eyes to catch sight of the elusive Mudkip and calling out a few curses at any obstructive Sentret.
