Round Five

ultraviolet (O)
kecleon
Circe (F) <Vital Spirit>
Health: 53%
Energy: 29%
Commands: Chill (act flattered!) x3
- What is wrong with you? Tired. Ice-typed.

Karkat Vantas (O)
primeape
Kong (M) <Color Change>
Health: 52%
Energy: 69%
Commands: Attract/Bulk Up/Brick Break x3
- At least as in love with himself as he is with Circe. Has a substitute with 10% health. Attracted to Circe (very severe). Fighting-typed.

Circe drops her magic coat with some reluctance, leaving her vulnerable to the full force of Kong's attentions. The primeape is a little put off by the end of the mirroring effect, but he has no problem with taking some extra time to win Circe's heart. He professes his affection and admiration for her, and continues to show off as best he can now that he has no more ice to shatter. The fact that the music has changed again, to a simple, tinny melody, is lost on the two of them--they're paying it no attention.

Circe really, really doesn't want to like Kong. All battle, she's seen him to be irritating, self-absorbed, and downright strange. As time goes on, though, she does have to admit that his enthusiastic attempts at flirting are a bit flattering. He's kind of cute, in a pitiful sort of way. Circe has to feel a bit sorry for him. In any case, she's willing to put her grudge aside for long enough to watch him perform. The tired kecleon sits down on the stage and relaxes, feigning attentiveness, while Kong moves on to showing off his physical prowess with some truly spectacular muscle flexes. The primeape's muscles actually twist and writhe under his skin, as they bulk out, providing Kong with a hefty layer of protection as well as physical strength. By the time he's done showing off, he's noticeably bulkier than before, and Circe, meanwhile, is feeling well-rested and refreshed.

ultraviolet (O)

Used: Chill x3
- Feeling pretty good. Attracted to Kong (moderate). Ice-typed.

Karkat Vantas (O)

Kong (M) <Color Change>
Health: 52%
Energy: 61%
Used: Attract ~ Bulk Up x2
- Bursting with confidence. Has a substitute with 10% health. Attracted to Circe (very severe). Fighting-typed. +2 Attack, +2 Defense

Final Notes
- Because Circe was predisposed to dislike Kong, she only became moderately attracted to him.
- ultraviolet attacks first next round. The song will be "Song of Forgetting" from Next to Normal. Both pokémon will behave as though under the effects of amnesia (they will forget a random attack and gain +2 special defense).

So Circe, I see how you're feeling - he's kind of 'eh', right? About a 5/10. Maybe a 6 on a good day. The point is, now you're feeling a bit better and he's ridiculously in love with you. But wait - he's also ridiculously in love with himself. If you're not careful, he's only going to pay attention to that silly substitute and none of it on you - and it's insulting for him to not notice you! You could do much better, after all. You're doing him a favour, and it's kind of ridiculous to have to compete with a less-than-perfect substitute. Sometimes a little jealousy is good in a relationship!

So we might as well make use of that Sub, anyway. Drain Punch it until it's gone. Then I want you to use Trick Room - but if he gets real mad about his sub, just go with Dizzy Punch; obviously he's a jerk and not the right person for you. Might as well cut your losses if he's going to act that way (and it's not like he's a huge loss, after all). If you've got an action left (if you managed to down the sub in one punch), have a bit of a playful jab and flirt with Swagger.

Drain Punch ~ Drain Punch ~ Trick Room/Dizzy Punch

if you get the sub in one: Drain Punch ~ Trick Room/Dizzy Punch ~ Swagger

Neg, you listed Kong's commands for Circe and vice versa.

Also, I didn't mention the effects of the song; both Pokemon were burned as long as the song was goin'. But I don't think that affects anything.

Fixed the commands. I was using the song out of the PM you sent me before your battle began, which had the +2 special attack effect listed, but burn would have done nothing but decreased both battlers' HP by three. I can change that down if you like, but that's all that would happen.

Negrek, if the turn order switches as a result of Trick Room, will uv have to attack first next round? And if so, will my song be next or hers?

If trick room is successful, uv will attack first again next round, and it will be her song again. Then, unless the trick room is renewed, you will attack first twice in a row, to your own music each time.

Also, DQ warning for you.

Uninspired commands are uninspired

wait what? that's what trick room does? I assumed it just worked like in the games and would make Circe faster than Kong. that's such a random thing for it to do o.o

Kong blinks, pulled out of happy daydreams by the change in the music and his trainer's commands. The mournful tune gives Kong a wistful feeling; his mind is hazy, his recollection stunted--but more pressingly, he can't think of the attack his trainer's called for at all. The primeape scowls; he hates thinking hard in any case, and right now he'd rather focus on Circe. He gives up after only a little effort--really, he doesn't know how to use sucker punch. It looks like he won't be doing much attacking this round. Fair enough. He'd rather sit back and enjoy watching Circe anyway.

Right now the sight of the kecleon isn't too pleasant, though. After struggling against the same muzziness as Kong, Circe has recovered and is preparing her attack.

Fighting energy glows around her fist as she draws it back, setting unsympathetic eyes on her would-be suitor. That gross substitute of his has got to go; she is not giving so much as the time of day to anybody who keeps a thing like that around.

Circe's drain punch is true, landing squarely in the substitute's chest; in fact, it sinks through quite easily. Circe pulls her hand back faster than she might have normally, leaving an immense hole through the middle of the substitute. Wisps of energy and, well, other stuff cling to her hand, vanishing swiftly as they are rendered down by the fighting energy of the drain punch and added to her own stores. Circe does her best to enjoy the little burst of energy that floods her body in the wake of the attack and not think too hard about where it came from.

Kong frowns. Okay, so maybe his substitute wasn't the most amazing gift ever, but still, he did his best. It's terribly rude to go about attacking it--and she's not done. A second solid drain punch rips the avatar clean in half, and it fades into thin air even as Circe absorbs the last remnants of its health. Kong waits apprehensively, wondering whether Circe intends to come after him next. But the kecleon has no interest in doing so; she simply stands where she is and closes her eyes, tapping one foot erratically as she concentrates. The icy surface of her body blushes with brief flashes of color as Circe summons her energy, weaving a web of psychic energy around the stage. Kong looks around in wonder as glowing lines stretch through the air around him, defining the boundaries of a bizarre distortion of physics. Suddenly the restless primeape is sluggish and slow-moving, while Circe's become nimble and deceptively quick. The kecleon opens her eyes and admires her handiwork, then turns a grin on Kong. More than just a pretty face, eh?

Neat! Let's keep him on his toes. Start with Solarbeam while the sun's out - as you're ice-typed, we really don't want to give Kong the opportunity to set you on fire, so it's best that we get there first. Act like you're going to sneeze when you fire it so it's 'an accident'; we don't want him getting too annoyed. You should be able to convince him with your feminine wiles; you're a pretty big deal, after all. If we're lucky he'll forgive you at least a little; if not, then well I guess he's just jealous of your talent.
Once that's done act surprised!! and try to cool him down with an ice beam because hey it's really hot and who doesn't like ice on a hot day, right? what kind of ungrateful jerk would get upset about that, I mean really. Then finish with Drain Punch.

if he's protecting, use Work Up. And if he tries to attract you again, remember: snot substitute.

Solarbeam/Work Up ~ Ice Beam/Work Up ~ Drain Punch/Work Up.

Wow, Kong, it's pretty obvious she's not taking you seriously. I know you demand respect-- if she's going to hurt you like that, intentionally or no, you need to send her a message that you are not to be messed with.

I think an Overheat will do the trick, don't you?

If for some reason you didn't get hit by that Solarbeam, though, I want you to Mimic her Trick Room. Go on, show her how great you are at warpin' time-space!

After that, I want you to Mimic her Trick Room if you haven't already; if you did, on the other hand, use Detect. Go ahead.

Finally, Circe might hurt you with suspiciously powerful sneezes or kisses, yeah, but would she physically assault you? Never! So I'm sure it wouldn't hurt her if you used Counter.

Overheat/Mimic (Trick Room) ~ Mimic (Trick Room)/Detect ~ Counter

Man, that Attract is really killing me! I guess you could say...

this love is taking it's toll on me.

The melancholy of "Song of Forgetting" fades out, replaced by a funky rock tune that is accompanied by a marked brightening of the stage lights. Circe is forced to squint through the glare, but overall the cold-blooded pokémon enjoys the simulated sunbath. Her crests readily absorb the sun's energy despite their frosty coating, and the yellow bands along their edges glow as Circe's body rapidly converts the sun's power to a concentrated, deadly form. She keeps her mouth clamped shut over the growing seed of a solarbeam for as long as she can, but the kecleon can't hold it in for long. The orb of pure grass power starts to burn the inside of her mouth, and she lets her jaws open a bit, brilliant light spilling between her lips. When the attack has grown to full strength, she does her best to mime a sneeze as she lets it fly at Kong, but it's a bit hard to pass off something so obviously premeditated as an accident.

Indeed, Kong, who had been watching the solarbeam's buildup with increasing apprehension and struggling against his suddenly unresponsive body to prepare for a dodge attempt, is not fooled. The intense beam of solar energy blinds him even as it sears his body, sending a shock wave of change across his skin as his fur turns matted and mossy. In its wake, he's left aching, with his vision obscured by black spots, and absolutely furious. There's simply no way he can see that solarbeam as anything other than an act of aggression, and Kong is not about to take it lying down. The nerve of Circe, to attack him when he'd made it clear he had no interest in hurting her! The more he thinks about Circe's betrayal, the more steamed up the primeape gets. His body temperature literally rises, wrath kindling a vicious fire in his belly. With a roar of primal wrath, the primeape raises his arms over his head and unleashes a wave of blistering heat at Circe.

The icy kecleon shrieks as the sun-intensified blast hits her, clouds of steam rising from her scales and raw burns breaking out all over her body. Any lingering affection the kecleon might have harbored for Kong flees, though for the moment it is simply because she can do nothing but try to remain standing in the face of the intense pain. Kong, meanwhile, feels viciously vindicated, panting and snorting out clouds of smoke as he rests after the intense attack.

Circe slowly masters herself, firmly ignoring her pain in favor of preparing her revenge. This time, it is icy energy that gathers in her mouth, and the kecleon's body temperature drops as she prepares her attack, a welcome change that helps to dull the throbbing of her burns. Kong, meanwhile, is watching her closely and trying to recall how she performed her trick room attack earlier. The problem is, he keeps getting distracted by thoughts of Circe herself. Disgusting--she clearly has no interest in him, but he still can't get over her. Karkat might be screaming invective at him from his place offstage, but Kong doesn't care--he can't deny his feelings, and at the moment there's just no way he can concentrate on trying to mimic the trick room. Circe's ice beam is a chilling rejection, one that freezes his fur out in little icy spikes, but Kong now feels sorrow rather than anger as he weather's Circe's attack. Just what did he do to earn this kind of treatment?

Circe is quick to follow up on her ice beam with a drain punch, this one aimed at Kong himself. She rushes forward, the trick room propelling her forward unnaturally fast. Kong barely has time to brace himself for the attack, but he manages to take up a favorable defensive stance by the time Circe slams her fist into his chest. The primeape grunts and then, regretfully, grabs the kecleon's extended arm, yanks her in close, and deals her a much more vicious punch to the gut before hurling her away again. Circe lands gasping and choking, while Kong, returned to his usual appearance, stands as steadily as he can in defiance of his injuries.

Maroon 5 is chased off the stage by a welter of frantic guitar playing as "Flight of the Bumblebee" comes on over the speakers. The wavering, buzzing tune is uncanny in its ability to put the pokémon in mind of creepy-crawly, flying things, and Circe shivers, unable to shake the feeling that she's covered in little, many-legged creatures. Kong, meanwhile, is scratching irritably at his stubby fur, trying to deter the bites of phantom mites. As ever, the mind is powerful in the face of reality, and the primeape's fur smooths itself down into a kind of light carapace as the primeape takes on something of a bug's characteristics himself, thanks to his stolen color-changing powers.

After a couple last swats at nothing, Circe shudders again and decides that if she's going to get away from these horrible bugs, she's going to have to get moving. The kecleon springs into action, darting back and forth around the stage. Though she appears to move blindingly fast within the reality-warping confines of the trick room, her ability to produce clones is not enhanced, and when all is said and done, six kecleon stand in a ring around Kong, awaiting their opponent's next move with narrowed eyes.

Kong can't help but be nervous to find himself suddenly outnumbered, but his fear is tinged with an edge of longing. The kecleon standing around him are positively radiant in their beauty, unfriendly expressions or no. Why, they're fairly glowing, their scales shedding a fine gold mist of light into the air... Kong sighs, overcome with melancholy to think of the kecleon he is quite sure will never be his.

Circe harbors no similar sentiments. Seeing her opponent with his guard down, she recognizes only an opportunity to attack. The kecleon glows golden as she summons as much energy as she can, power normally locked away and dangerous to use. It's now or never, though--no time for caution. The circle of kecleon around Kong closes as the clones and their creator rush forward as one, then swing around, their coiled-up tails lashing out in unison. Only one of them actually deals any real damage to Kong, striking him full across the face with an impressive crack!, but it's more than enough. The primeape is knocked off his feet, his fur springing up again, now pale and wispy as dandelion fuzz as he chances types once again.

Kong picks himself up off the stage with a slow deliberation born of rage. It's anger at himself more than anything, for being taken in by Circe once again, tempered with the knowledge that unless he finishes this battle quickly, he's going to lose. It's the primeape's turn to charge up now, blue-white sparks of light dancing in the air around him as he focuses his thoughts on striking a decisive blow. The primeape rushes forward, heedless of the way the new gash across his face is starting to drip blood into his eyes, and brings a fist down atop the first kecleon he sees.

It passes right through the clone and shatters the floorboards beneath with its tremendous force. Kong falls to one knee, blinking blood out of his eyes and huffing with exhaustion as he stares numbly at his throbbing hand, still wedged into the hole it's created in the floor. That's it--it's over. He screwed up again, and any second now Circe's next attack is going to come flying in to knock him out for good.

As it turns out, though, the primeape's luck hasn't quite forsaken him. The powerful spell Circe wove over the arena is fraying at last, the brilliant lines of force supporting the trick room flickering and dissolving back into empty air. As time resumes its proper course, Kong feels suddenly energized, returned to some approximation of his usual restless, quick-footed self. The primeape rises to his feet, wrenching his hand free of the stage. He rounds on Circe and her four clones, rejoicing in his one last chance to win and determined not to waste it. Once again energy dances in the air around him as he prepares his attack, and this time, as he flies at the kecleon on the far right, he is rewarded by seeing its eyes widen as he draws near. This time the primeape's punch hits home, slamming into Circe's stomach and sending her sailing through the air, all her clones evaporating in an instant. She hits the far wall of the stage with a heavy thud, then falls back to the stage to land facedown, limp and unconscious, as the audience cheers.

Victorious!

Kong hoots and prances around the stage, fists held high in the air as his fur slowly begins to take on its usual dense, creamy appearance. Karkat Vantas appears onstage to join his pokémon in celebration, although he's careful not to get too close to Kong, who is having considerable difficulty seeing through blood-scummed eyes and is throwing mock punches with more enthusiasm than it would be wise to tempt. ultraviolet makes her entrance shortly thereafter, collecting her fainted pokémon and receiving her own round of applause, and she and Karkat exchange a handshake before the referee joins them to distribute the closing prizes.

Good game, you guys. Sorry that the refereeing process was at times tortuous. In the end, Karkat gets $20 and a ticket into round three, while ultraviolet gets $10, and I get $15. Kong gets two EXP, and Circe, one.
