------------------------------

Lomm's dancing again, clumsily attempting to spin on all four legs before apparently giving up and just executing a series of leaping twirls, appearing more and more focused and aware with each jump. Makuhita has no further interest in any of the Lotad's silly dances, though. There are far more important things on his mind—his major cinematic debut, for instance. He sits down on the grass and occupies himself by imagining a poster of his face plastered atop a backdrop of the stadium in a dark storm, ignoring his opponent for the most part except to give him a wary glance every now and then, make sure he's not going to try anything again. It's a nice little break indeed; not only does it ease some of his weariness, but he even gets the plans for his first movie poster all laid out! He sure can't ask to be more productive than that.

Meanwhile, Lomm's finished spinning around and is now staring at Makuhita with the poutiest look he can manage. He's feeling all pumped up and ready for battle after that dance, and the Makuhita's just completely ignoring him! Talk about rude. Lomm takes a few tentative steps closer, watching for Makuhita to fly into berserk mode again, but nothing happens. Definitely ignoring him, then. Lomm absolutely hates being ignored. He'll just have to resort to radical measures to make him pay attention! Bowing his head, Lomm concentrates hard on all his desire to be noticed, a pale blue aura of psychic energy surrounding him, and then breaks into a run, ramming headfirst into his startled opponent. The impact, more forceful thanks to Lomm's earlier preparation, tosses Makuhita off his feet, and he lands with a thump a few inches away.

Seeing his opponent's reaction to this is even more hilarious than watching him struggle in the water earlier. Makuhita leaps back up, holding his gloves in front of him in a defensive position and watching Lomm much more closely now, obviously unsettled. He doesn't seem to be remembering to attack, though, and Lomm quickly gets himself back under control so that he can capitalize on this opportunity. The leaf on his back glows brightly white as he gathers energy from the unnaturally intense sunlight, holding back another giggle as he notices how much easier this is because of the Sunny Day that Makuhita's so kindly provided him with. Taking aim at the Makuhita, Lomm fires a brilliant beam of blazing solar energy from his mouth that goes tearing through the grass on its way to its target. He squints against the light and watches with glee as Makuhita staggers backward from the attack, the Solarbeam searing his skin, and nearly falls into the pool.

Oh, now this is it. Makuhita has absolutely no forgiveness for this supposed fan who dares to laugh at him like he's made a complete and utter fool of himself. (He hasn't, of course. He was just... holding back for the sake of his potential admirer.) He lets himself really feel the pain from the Solarbeam for a second, channeling his rage as he runs forward, and grins as Lomm's eyes widen and he tries to scramble away to no avail. Makuhita doesn't bother with any fancy punches or kicks this time, just charges straight into him. And it works just as well; the Lotad's bowled right over with a startled cry that gives Makuhita a vague feeling of satisfaction through the haze of exhaustion that's starting to cloud his mind again. That should teach Lomm not to show him the respect he deserves!

Nice, Lomm.

Alright, let's go with Zen Headbutt, unless he's unhittable in which case use Swords Dance again. Then if he's still alive Zen Headbutt again, and then if he survived that too SOLAHBEEMZ

Hmmm. Well, I'm pretty sure you could go all the way, Makuhita, but why don't we let somebody else get a bit of the experience? Counter the zen headbutt with all you've got left, then take a break.

If you flinched or otherwise missed your counter, though, instead protect, then go out with a reversal.

Lomm looks nervously over at Makuhita, who's glowering at him as he resumes his defensive stance. Oh, boy. Is he planning another—the Lotad gulps, not wanting to think about it, and tries to reassure himself that everything will be fine. Why does Makuhita have to take this all so seriously, anyway? It's really ruining the fun! Lomm lowers his head, concentrating very hard on all his annoyance at his bad-tempered opponent and pawing at the grass a couple of times because it makes him feel fierce. When he senses the faint shimmer of psychic energy around him again he goes dashing forward and slams his head into the Makuhita, hears him grunting from the pain of the impact and expects him to go flying like before—but somehow his opponent stays standing. He seizes Lomm's head in his hands and together they go skidding a short way toward Makuhita's end of the field before he lets go and, while Lomm's still recovering, smashes into him with a headbutt of his own that sends him sailing through the air instead. What... what a copycat! That was his idea first! Outraged and seeing stars, Lomm staggers back toward his opponent, intending to give him a piece of his mind, but he forgets about that when he sees Makuhita teeter unsteadily on his feet before collapsing into a heap on the grass. Huh. He bravely approaches him and prods him with a front foot, but the Makuhita doesn't respond. Looks like he's knocked out his new playmate. Whoops. Well, he was no fun, anyway. And this means he wins, right?

Okay, let's bring out Yoshiya. Double edge straight through, rip into Lomm with magical leaf if he double teams, and calm mind if he protects.

Ok, so first let's Counter that Double-Edge - unless it misses, in which case use Razor Leaf, unless you are under 5% health in which case Flail.

Do you mean for those orders to apply for all three actions? I suppose I should be asking that of Negrek, too, though negs commands imply that neg just missed an "x3" while yours don't.

I probably should have asked this before writing the reffing, oh well.

Ah, okay. No problem; I just wanted to be sure because it sounded like your actions might've been cut off. Have this reffing, then.

Oh, good. This new opponent looks a lot less intimidating than that Makuhita, what with its... its... its complete lack of Makuhita-like features. Yes. Speaking of Makuhita, maybe Lomm should try taking a leaf out of his book; the Clefairy's just been sent out, and he's already getting tired, after all. So when Yoshiya cloaks himself in a golden light and dashes forward, Lomm doesn't back down. He bravely doesn't back down. Instead, he makes some sort of attempt to cling to the grass as tightly as possible with his tiny limbs. The Clefairy slams into him a second later, and with a grunt of pain and effort Lomm strains against him as much as he can, his feet leaving a trail in the grass until he manages to come to a full stop. Before Yoshiya can get away, Lomm backs up a couple of steps and then springs at the Clefairy with a tackle of his own, barreling into him with all the force he can muster. Even the Lotad is amazed at his own power as Yoshiya goes flying across the stadium with a startled squeak. Soon it'll be time for him to start working on a victory dance, he's sure!

Yoshiya soon recovers, though, and charges relentlessly into Lomm again, a streak of golden light trailing behind him. But Lomm knows just what to do! He digs his little feet into the grass again and briefly screws his eyes shut as more pain shoots through him, holding out against the impact with all his might until he's able to gather the strength to fling himself back at his opponent. The Clefairy's sent whizzing away again, landing with a thud on the ground, but this time something's different; the world is fading in and out of his vision as he groggily stumbles around, glad that Yoshiya's been knocked far enough away that he'll have a little time to try and regain his bearings. Thankfully, after a few seconds, Lomm manages to summon up the will to remain standing... that is, until his foe launches into him with yet another Double-Edge. Yoshiya doesn't even make full contact before his vision wavers again and he simply topples over, falling into unconsciousness.

  • Counter took 2% damage off the first two Double-Edges.

  • Pokémon can't really tell how much health they have left in terms of percentage like that, not that it ended up mattering in the end. Lomm could definitely tell that he was going to collapse really soon, though, so he would've ended up using Flail on the last action.

Final Notes

The smugly-giggling Clefairy remains on the field after Lomm's recalled, sporting several bruises but looking quite disappointed when no new opponent appears on the other side of the stadium. After some grumbling, though, he returns reluctantly to his Poké Ball, before the trainers meet at the center of the stadium to shake hands and receive their prizes from the referee. They then turn and part in opposite directions while the referee whistles to the Wingull perched on her shoulder, which struggles to flap its wings but can't manage even a single wingbeat into the air while clinging to its trainer with its feet. The referee mutters something about misleading Fly HMs and just storms off, leaving the smashed-up stadium behind for some poor sap to deal with so that it may be used for battle another day.

The battle is over, and Negrek is the winner. Negrek gets $20, Anomaly 54 gets $10, and I get $15 (+an additional $15 because this was Anomaly 54's first battle, if those bonuses stack?).

Torchy gets 1 EXP. Makuhita, Lomm, and Yoshiya get 2 EXP each, and Yoshiya can now evolve.
