But there's obviously still basic physics in the universe, so the most basic laws should still apply. (I mean, they kept gravity)
 
Most physics, sure, but clearly either conservation of mass and energy is the exception, or the Pokémon are exploiting some kind of loophole.

To just pick and choose which laws of physics they follow is weird, seeing as how the Pokemon world has been represented in the past as a variation of Earth, and the only difference is the existence of Pokemon.
 
And the existence of Pokémon clearly violates conservation. Thus, to make that sole change, different laws of physics are required.
