One-Shot A Big Little Guy - a rhyming short story

Aethelstan

Murderer of Words
This is just a rhyming short story I wrote once when I was bored, but it came out pretty good.
---------------------------------------------------
A Big Little Guy

Once, I was walking about,
Because the sun had just come out,
When suddenly, I saw a plant,
Who had the voice of a giant!

“I’m an Oddish! I am strong,
Though I’ve not lived very long!
Battles I could win with ease,
So someone come and battle, please?”

After I heard this Oddish cry,
In the corner of my eye,
I spotted someone gray and rough,
A Rhydon! He looked pretty tough.

Up to the Oddish, Rhydon went,
Then he stopped, and over he bent,
And laughed at Oddish with all his might!
The ground was shaking, what a sight!

He said, “Oddish are so weak and small!
Unlike me, who’s strong and tall!
Yes, when Monday morning rolls around,
I will crush you into the ground!”

Rhydon left, then, and to my surprise,
There was a feiry look in Oddish’s eyes,
I expected something that seemed afraid,
So I ran over, to be of aid.

“Little one, don’t be so dumb,
You’re the size of Ryhdon’s thumb!
Now before a slaughter has begun,
I would get up now, and run!”

But Oddish just stood and shook his head,
He then looked up at me and said,
“He is big; I’m smaller than an elf,
But I can win by believing in myself!”

Sooner than I thought, Monday came,
Oddish hopped up, he looked quite lame.
Rhydon stomped, he shook the ground!
I suddenly wished I wasn’t around.
But again, I saw the fire in Oddish’s eyes,
And though Rhydon was 10 times his size,
I somehow knew Oddish could do it,
I still hoped he wouldn’t take the first hit.

Rhydon charged! He used his horn!
I was sure we’d have a death to mourn,
But wait! Oddish jumped over Rhydon’s head!
The little fellow wasn’t dead!

Rhydon tried again, this time faster!
And again I feared a great disaster,
But no, Oddish was just too quick!
He jumped up and delivered a kick!

His foot jabbed Rhydon in the eye!
And surprisingly, he began to cry!
“Ow, ow, ow!” Rhydon shouted,
Oddish was winning, though I had doubted!

Oddish then used Giga Drain,
And inflicted excruciating pain!
Rhydon ran, he’d had enough,
So much for looking big and tough.

I ran over to Oddish and said,
“I figured you should have fled,
But you most definitely proved me wrong!
You had it in you all along!”

Now there is a lesson to be taught,
Did this turn out like you had thought?
See, little ones can do big things,
No matter what this life brings!

This is... Really good. I love how your were able to find nice rhymes, but keep the stroy flowing smoothly. That's a tough thing to accomplish. Kudos.
I feel the need to ask though, should this be in poetry? The ryhming, verses, and rythem make it seem an awful lot like a poem.

This would make an excellent children's picture book. <3

I thought about this, but I guess it depends on your definition of a poem. I personally think of poems being more expressing emotions, or describing something creatively, not really a story.

I thought about that too. I even almost started drawing it, but that would be a lot of images to draw... and I'm a lazy bum.
