• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

What do you want to see in the 5th gen?

NO MORE NEW LEGENDARY'S!!!

The games need more legends. Not quite as many as D/P, but still some more legends. However, they are not to change a pokemon's role, because I'm still kind of ticked about Mew being demoted. Also, try not to go back any further than they did. Mew was enough, Arceus just killed it. Expand the mythos, but not to the point where we get a legend that controls trees and flowers.

And it seems the 5th gen was confirmed with a new teaser for movie 12. Check either serebii or bulbapedia for the info.

It would be nice if there was a point where you could do like three gyms in any order, but the story line changes depending upon which.

Maybe season-specific Pokémon, but that might be annoying to people who can't be bothered to wait until Winter to catch them an Ice Pokémon.

I thought that some pokemon would appear more often based on seasons, but no pokemon would only by availiable only in one specific season (exept maybe a super-rare one for each season).

Too true. Maybe Eevee could learn it at Lv1 and then changes type on whatever Eeveelution is chosen. The Eeveelution's movepools are stupid. They're pretty much the same as others their type and if they aren't going to make Eeveelutions unique then they didn't need to make so many. Flareon needs it the most.

Actually, the idea I had goes like this (PP always 5 EXCEPT for Eevee, Accuracy always 90 unless otherwise stated)

Eevee
-Power: 100
-PP: 10
-Type: Normal
-Style: Physical
-Effect: Does straight out damage

Jolteon
-Power: 120
-Type: Electric
-Style: Special
-Effect: Paralyses foe 50% of the time

Flareon
-Power: 120
-Type: Fire
-Style: Physical
-Effect: Burns foe 50% of the time

Vaporeon
-Power: N/A
-Type: Water
-Style: Other
-Effect: Haven't quite decided

Espeon
-Power: 120
-Type: Psychic
-Style: Special
-Effect: Confuses foe 50% of the time

Umbreon
-Power: N/A
-Accuracy: 70%
-Type: Dark
-Style: Other
-Effect: Lowers foe's Defense or Special Defense (whichever one is lower) by one, and raises Umbreon's corresponding stat by one

Leafeon
-Power: 120
-Type: Grass
-Style: Physical
-Effect: Puts foe to Sleep 30% of the time

Glaceon
-Power: 70
-Accuracy: 70%
-Type: Ice
-Style: Special
-Effect: Freezes foe 50% of the time

Maybe Vaporeon could lower accuracy? But that's banned for some competitive battlers.

A different plot would be nice. But if there is some Team Something, why can't we join it? What if someone agreed with their goals? In fact, it'd be cool if they gave us more moral choices to make, instead of the being a good guy who wants to become champion and save the world and stuff. What if someone wanted to be evil? Or neutral? Then the plot could go several ways.

And maybe like a super trainer like Red in GSC. Wi-Fi battles are boring now since if one move messes up, even from the beginning then you can pretty much lose.
Pearl took the spot as the best in game trainer in Platinum, his starter is one level above Red's Pikachu.

Customizable characters! it have to happen!
At least around 150 new Pokémon like the first and third generation.
Making your own gym would be somewhat badass, I have to admit that.
A better story, much better, even thought it shouldn't be to complex, as it's rated E for everyone, young kids play Pokémon too.
I'd love to see something else then the stereotypical region, like a tropical island would be awesome, or a collection of islands with some gyms each which you had to surf/ride a boat between!
AND THERE IS NEVER 'NUFF EEVEE UNTIL THERE IS A EVOLUTION FOR EVERY TYPE!
And that's all I can think of right now.

You people know it's possible to fish up Lv 100 Magikarp

It's quite rare...you fish in the Resort Area water with the Super Rodand there is a chance of finding a Lv 100 Magikarp. It's only in Platinum however.

Lv 100 Magikarp are just plain XD and LOL.

They should remove the HM system. It always annoyed me. YOUR PIDGEOT CAN'T FLY BECAUSE YOU HAVEN'T TAUGHT IT HOW TO YET. They should make the HMs into TMs and make certain pokemon able to do things in the overworld without taking up a move slot. Surf is cool, but no one wants defog or flash. Honestly.

That's nothing but pure evil. A Magikarp that will never evolve. D:

To be fair, this prevents you from jumping ahead to areas you're not supposed to be at. Otherwise, HMs are the biggest PITA in the whole series. If they do away with them without making it to where I could get trapped while keeping it to where we can't get places too early, then I'd be in Nintendo's debt forever.

A light-type, and a gym for it

please no

if we get a "light-type", then they'll have to think of weaknesses/resistances for that type.

What do you think "light" would be effective against? Dark?
What would it be weak against? Hmm...? I dunno, if you shine a flashlight at anything it'll have pretty much the same effect. If you fire a laser (which is pretty much focused light, the L in LASER stands for light) at something, it'll cause damage. Maybe water can resist laser attacks. I can't tell for sure, I've never fired a laser at anything before.

Ever wonder where some of the resistances/weaknesses came from? Like, why the hell are psychics weak to Bug type? It's because they had difficulty balancing all the types out. Bug was pretty much Psychic's only weakness back in Gen 1 (ghost was supposed to be effective against it too, but I believe due to a bug it is not) until Dark was added in gen 2. And why would Dark attacks be weak against Fighting? I guess, since Psychic beat Fighting and Dark beat Psychic, they should have Fighting beat Dark to make it a triangle. Fighting also has the distinction of being the only type effective against Normal and one of 3 that are good against Steel. For that matter, why is Psychic weak against Steel? Don't psychics bend spoons and whatnot?

Light vs Psychic. Who has the advantage?
Light vs Rock. Light vs Steel. Light vs Electric (aren't they almost the same thing, anyway?). Light vs Bug. Light vs Ghost. Light vs Dragon. And so on and so forth...

No, Pokemon has enough types as it is. As for what I want in future games, I thought I posted it in another thread but I can't find it. What I'd probably want most in a game is actually seeing NPCs recognize me. When I play Pokemon, I feel like the game doesn't change at all, even though I (the player) am probably the most significant mover/shaker in the Pokemon world. When I beat the champ, (s)he is still the champ. After I defeat Team Generic Badguys, no one gives me credit for it. I mean, they're supposed to be evil and stuff. Not even the police forces can stop them. They're the baddest of the bad. And I, a 10 year old kid, put a stop to them.

That is noteworthy news. I should be getting a parade in every city I visit, or at least random NPCs recognizing me as the guy who did what the entire police force of the region failed to do (the topic of why police are often portrayed as inept, despite the experience needed to be a law enforcement officer and the fact that a random joe shmo, never mind a 10 year old random joe shmo, has such experience, will be addressed in a different thread if I feel like it).

Oh, and secret bases. Those were the shit. I know Gen 4 had them but it's rather annoying that I have to "mix records" with people to get space to put stuff. I know I don't have any friends, I don't need Game Freak to remind me all the time.

Pokemon is a children's game. Nintendo probably doesn't want to encourage children to join gangs.

Of course, if that's the case, one wonders why there are gambling casinos.

Like, why the hell are psychics weak to Bug type?

If this was intended to be an example of a weakness that makes no sense, you picked a bad example...

Psychic is weak to Bug because bugs are mindless. Can't read something's mind if they don't have one. Also, annoying buzzing noises in your ear tend to disrupt your concentration, which is something Psychics depend heavily on.

Now, Psychic being weak to Dark, on the other hand...

That's a good point that I didn't even consider - but rocks don't have minds either, yet Rock is not resistant to Psychic.

It does seem strange that saving the world from some crazy guys gets you almost no fame whatsoever. It's like spending 30 years to find the cure for cancer and getting nothing but an inexpensive fancy Santa and a chewing gum wrapper. In fact, when I battle the Elite Four again, they act as if I never existed. Unless the Elite Four is always drunk when I fight them. No wonder a ten-year-old can beat them so easily.

Hm... a 10-year-old beating some Team Obligatory and becoming the region's champion... what a Mary Sue/Gary Stu. I don't like to discrimate a person for their age, but it would take one seriously gifted 10-year-old to pull off something like that in real life, with or without pokemon.

I guess the gang thing could be a problem, since children seem to have such a difficult time making simple moral desicions. And of course, parents buy violent games for their kids and whine to the game companies when their kids take up crime when it's obviously the parents' fault.

Indeed. The story may have been "fresh" a few years ago, but now it is simply generic and repetitive. Also taking into account what you said earlier. The Elite Four thing could be considered by some a fracture in the plot, as in most of the games, the story somewhat continues (or the "story" becomes a number of sub-stories) after you beat the Elite Four. There is no doubt that people have mentioned suggestions for plot ideas earlier in the thread, so I currently do not have any.

That's a good point that I didn't even consider - but rocks don't have minds either, yet Rock is not resistant to Psychic.

I believe it is because the games treat the "Rock-type" Pokemon as things similar to "animals" on their own, with basic needs, instincts and such. Just because they are "Rock-types" does not necessarily mean they are mindless; it would be like saying a Squirtle was equally mindless because of the Water-type. Water does not have a mind, yet we know Squirtle is intelligent to an extent.
