Metalos is just incapable of writing something that's not creepy.

But man, I do agree that all these characters are great. Surely there's no way we can't triumph~

Name: Priscilla Messina.
Gender: yes.
Age: 14.

Appearance: For most of the year, the first thing one is likely to noticed about Priscilla is that she's dressed rather inappropriately for the weather: she prefers to dress lightly, enough to cover anything that might possibly get scratched without being too inconvenient. This might be less in the winter when everything is padded with snow. She usually carries a book in her right hand, and an umbrella hooked on that arm.

Otherwise, Priscilla is not especially visually distinctive: somewhat on the short side, but also young enough that it doesn't seem unusual; perhaps somewhat on the pale side, in contrast to the somewhat off-black hair, but not so extreme that it's especially noticeable. Her face tends to carry an expression of alertness in sharp contrast to her actual lack of responsiveness.

Personality: Priscilla is rather timid; she likes to think in terms of right and wrong, and while she is generally very confident of being right about things she's confident of being right about (tautological, perhaps), Priscilla tends to be at least mildly anxious whever it's not clear what's right and what's wrong. When convinced of her rightness, Priscilla remains unyieldingly convinced of her rightness; when faced with any uncertainty, in contrast, she tends to be accommodating, even easily pressured.

Left alone, Priscilla is rather undriven; she often starts projects, then loses interest and moves on before finishing them. She spends quite a bit of time lying in bed or sitting or wandering around aimlessly because nothing seems sufficiently interesting.

Biography: Priscilla's childhood was not especially interesting: a college town; her mother, research; her father, a professor of classics; a younger brother and herself, school. Almost idyllic. Priscilla was the louder, more attention-demanding child. Bright, but not standout. Normal.

Priscilla's life became somewhat more interesting during the chemistry unit of sixth-grade science. She didn't learn much from the class itself; however, it led to her incrementally checking out and at least trying to read every book in the local library on thermodynamics. Thermodynamics resonated with her, even when it didn't come easily. And while Priscilla herself naturally didn't notice, she began to seem strange to other; she began to choose clothing entirely inappropriately for the weather; she wouldn't bother to turn on the air conditioning even at temperatures others would find uncomfortable; she began to carry an umbrella at all times, regardless of the weather. Priscilla became the quiet one with the physics book, always with the physics book. The change was unexpected, but those around her took it in stride.

Priscilla's first overt achievement with her power came two years later, when she learned to fly. Unusual and strange, yes, previous manifestations of her power were, but in large part, others could dismiss those as Priscilla's increasingly-strange individual preferences; they weren't clearly wrong. It is rather more difficult to say the same for flight. Only then did it become clear that, well, some supernatural phenomenon applies. It didn't take too long after that for the letter from Black Moon Academy to arrive.

Ability: Priscilla's power grants control over gas expansion and thermal equilibria; the power allows systems to be brought both closer to and further from equilibrium states. Curiously, however, Priscilla's power seems to be fairly conservative in interacting with physics; despite being actually kind of blatantly ridiculous, Priscilla's power generally (though not necessarily always) won't violate, for instance, the laws of thermodynamics, too badly. Given that the power generally functions more according to expectations than anything, this might well be more a result of Priscilla implicitly believing that her powers should be subject to such limitations, however, rather than an inherent limitation of the power; considering how conceptually ridiculous the power itself should be, the limitation seems to make just as much sense. Relatedly, the power has two interesting properties:
  1. The probably more obvious consequence is that any energy input or output has to come from or go somewhere. Since Priscilla's power only applies to gas expansion and thermal equilibria, however, this generally means that energy released as one systems moves toward equilibrium must be balanced by energy absorbed as another system moves away from equilibrium.
  2. The possibly less obvious consequence is that Priscilla's power is limited to Carnot efficiency (when considered as an engine or a heat pump). The power itself appears to function precisely at Carnot efficiency; presumably the nature of the power allows it to function reversibly in finite time. (Of course, accounting for Priscilla's life processes and such reduces efficiency.) This makes Priscilla rather more efficient than commercially-available engines and heat pumps, of course (Priscilla is an excellent refrigerator), but generally can't compete favourably with actual temperature-control powers.

And yes, Priscilla can fly. (Given the utility of three-dimensional motion, how could you possibly find out you have superpowers with physical implications and not even at least try to use them to fly.) The more generally practical means is to improvise a hot-air balloon. A perhaps more impressive, though more difficult, means involves a reinforced umbrella. A certainly more impressive and perhaps occasionally practical, but more usually absolutely ridiculous means is extract light gases to fill an airship. Naturally, Priscilla would prefer the last option.

Other: Priscilla has one head and is generally humanoid. She does not eat mariners.

Other Other: well, social groups have visibility issues. it could work, I guess, but ... well I guess, but um. eh is not like there's any activity anyway, it's probably worth a try.

I may be a bit rusty, I haven't written much in a while.

Name: Thomas Lang
Gender: Male
Age: 17

Appearance: Thomas is fairly tall and slightly overweight. His hair is dark and usually appears as if a half-hearted attempt was made to style it in some way. His hair sometimes gets in the way of his glasses, behind which lie dark eyes, brown or black depending on the light. His usual attire is simple: jeans and a t-shirt, with a hoodie on top. Thomas has a face that usually makes him 'that guy': someone who everyone recognizes on sight but no one truly remembers, a sort of blend-into-the-background type. The only exception is his nose, which is unfortunately quite large and takes up a decent portion of his face.

Personality: Thomas is quite the perfectionist. To him, the only truly beautiful thing is a fluid and efficient system in which everything works together with perfect accuracy. Thus, he is extremely bothered when plans don't come to fruition. However, only he sees himself as this; any observer would simply assume he takes longer to do things. Thomas is also proud and sometimes boastful, especially when he is sure something is right. This tends to lead people into thinking that he's quiet, as the two aspects clash and rarely provide him with a topic to talk about. However, when the right moment occurs, Thomas can be a great and confident speaker and advocate of whatever subject he chooses. Socially he makes friends but does not go to any lengths to keep them; he refuses to go out of his way for something he sees as trivial. He prefers to be alone and finds solitude in music and his telescope. (or observable astronomy, as he calls it.)

Biography: Life for Thomas was normal (albeit mundane) up until his sophomore year of high school. Up to that point, he viewed everything he was forced to do in life as part of a plan to eventually get into a college where he could study higher level mathematics, astronomy, physics, or anything that featured perfect systems, things that had interested him from a very young age. He had fun, made friends, acted normal, everything one was supposed to do in life. Only when he pursued his personal interests did he truly enjoy himself. On a gloomy October night, Thomas was walking home when a metaphorical wrench was thrown in his plan. Without warning he was struck through the chest by a tiny fragment of rock that happened to be hurtling through the sky at around 40 km per second. The fragment was a meteorite that had all but disintegrated and by some astronomical means managed to lodge itself into Thomas' ribcage. He was found and taken to the hospital by a neighbor who encountered him bleeding on the sidewalk. When operated on, though, doctor were baffled as there were no other injuries aside from an entry wound from what appeared to be a bullet, yet more jagged. The doctors would later classify it as a shooting, even though no bullet was recovered. Over a period of a few months Thomas slowly recovered, as the wound took more time to heal than the doctors though it would initially. When he was able to think again, shortly after the accident, he felt lost. He had missed enough crucial schoolwork that he might have to repeat the year, and he felt lost. One night, shortly near the time he was released from hospital care, his hopelessness manifested itself in a fit of rage. He picked up several tools and flung them around the room, aiming to break screens and hopefully impale his anger in the wall. Then, he picked up a chair and with a scream threw it towards the hospital window, channeling every ounce of pain he felt into his arms. Thomas saw a flash and the chair remained stationary in the air, with several of the other tools he had thrown revolving around it. A small hole appeared in the chair's center and Thomas felt himself being drawn in towards it. After a few seconds the point vanished and everything fell to the ground. A hole 1 inch in diameter remained in the center of the chair, the matter seemingly dissolving into nothing. A doctor had observed the display, entering the room when the first few tools had been flung towards the wall. Shortly after Thomas's parents were contacted by the Black Moon Academy. Thomas was taken out of school and from that point spent most of his time alone until his parents took the offer and decided to enroll him.

Abilities: Gravitational Manipulation. Thomas can turn an inanimate object into a gravitational point for a few seconds, up to half a minute. This cannot be done instantaneously and takes quite a bit to conjure, usually needing a feeling of intense rage or frustration, or intense concentration.

These fields can be manipulated as well. For instance, if one object is orbiting around a field's center at a high enough speed, quick cancellation of the field can be used to launch that object at high velocity in a straight line. It should be noted, though, that this can backfire quite disastrously and launch something in the wrong direction.

As Thomas improves he will be able to create a field as himself as the center, and intensify normal gravity in small radius around him as well. He will also be able to do things quickly and with more (but not perfect) accuracy. No matter how skilled he is, creating a field takes a lot out of Thomas and he is not able to create an excessive amount or a very strong field without risking grievous injury or exhaustion.

Other: I really hope this isn't too op, I quite like it. Yay for breaking the laws of physics! I think his ability is powered by microscopic black holes but i don't really want to go into too much detail with something that wouldn't be feasible in the first place.

Name: Nestor McLane
Gender: Male
Age: 16

Appearance: Nestor doesn't stand out from the crowd. He's about 5'9, slim build, and close cut brown hair. He wears a plain blue t-shirt, and a pair of cargo pants with many pockets. A small fob watch chain is usually draped over his hip. He also wears a striped clip-on necktie, which he treasures. He carries around a folder filled with drawings, short stories, and the beginnings of a novel.

Personality: Nestor does not take kindly to strangers. Although it takes time for him to acclimate to them, once Nestor's been befriended, he'll protect his friend, even if it means death. Around nature, however, Nestor feels at home. He can be much more sociable anywhere where nature manifests itself. Otherwise, he'll usually be in a corner, pondering, not paying attention to those around him.

Biography
: Nestor was born into a life of privilege. His parents were wealthy people; they had a butler and a few other people on payroll. However, they often slighted Nestor for his younger brother Albert. While Nestor proved himself an intellectual, albeit socially awkward, Albert made a name for himself in sports and was a hit with the girls. Instead, the family butler, Jeeves, got him a dog. Not a posh purebreed, but a street mutt. Nestor was immediately smitten by it. His parents, thankful that Nestor was distracted, continued ignoring him even more than before. But Nestor didn't care. He had Mr. Cat! He'd spend days on end playing with him, once he arrived from school. Things started looking up for him; he started being a little more sociable, he got a few friends at school...

Then, Mr. Cat died.

Nestor completely shut himself from the outside world. He'd spend endless hours in his room, Jeeves being his only company. He'd read, write, and draw. During this time, his powers started showing up. At first it was minor; making a squirrel eat a blade of grass, making a petal fall. Eventually, he was able to put small rodents under complete mind control. Jeeves, noticing this, talked his parents into sending him to Black Moon.

Abilities: Since Mr. Cat's death, Nestor has been able to control nature. This ability can get out of hands sometimes, as it is still not fully developed, causing animals to go rabid or plants to wither up sometimes. He can only mind control a few mice or small birds at a time, and he is completely immobile during this time, making him extremely vulnerable.

Finally decided to open them again, did you?

Name: Roma Cornelius
Gender: Female
Age: Almost thirty years away from her two hundredth birthday... yippee. However, she appears eighteen or so.

Appearance:
Human form
The more frequent of the two, for she doesn't want her secret getting out so easily. She stands at an average height, with a more sturdy and athletic build. Her skin is a sickly with little to no blemishes, and her eyes are of a deep, serene brown—they might seem a bit odd, given their slight cat-like appearance. Her hair is spiky and shoulder-lengthed, an unnatural snow white color that's just barely paler than her skin. She often wears a gray hoodie with white strings, black jean shorts that just barely reach her knees, and gray flats with no noticeable accessories. Weaker in this form.

Natural form
She reserves this form for when she needs additional strength, or when she is with others of her kind. While in it, she grows much taller, now towering over many males of height, and her biceps and calves have become larger with muscles. Her eyes, too, have seemed to grown bigger from her human form, and are like that of a reptile, but still retain the dark brown color. Her body is covered with a layer of greenish-gray scales, with a few browns and other colors popping here and there, and her chest is rounded with evidence of breasts. On each side of her head are small, horn-like growths, and her toes and hands are all spiked with claws. Typically she goes unclad when in this form, but that doesn't mean she'll strip down right on the spot if she morphs when in danger. Stronger in this form, and her pain tolerance is much higher.

Personality: Roma is more of the quiet type than anything—silent, brooding, always watchful. She has a habit of speaking her mind when asked of it, however, unaware of whether or not her opinions might be hurtful; honestly, she can't really make much of others' emotions. Towards her kind, she is more respectful and easier to please, though towards humans... Roma can perhaps seem a bit standoffish and rude, as she slightly believes them to be inferior to the Reptilians. Regardless, she tries to remain ever cordial to her human classmates, as she has a never-ending fascination for them—not a harmful one, mind you, but merely a childlike curiosity in the homo sapiens.

Nevertheless, she has a lack of tact towards others, though doesn't view this as an issue, really; she also has a relatively short fuse, and will combust with anger when ignited. She is especially touchy around the subject of her heritage, and will not hesitate for a moment to try to beat the crap out of anyone that ridicules her for being a Reptilian.

Biography: Her history is nothing short of extensive, though a larger part of it is pretty repetitive; but still full of adventure, so to speak. She was born during the Italian Unification in Italy, though her ancestors' homeland is elsewhere, a place unknown to the humans. She was of a group of Reptilians that broke away from the majority and rather than wanting to harm humans and "annihilate them," as the few people that believe in their existence believe they are on Earth for, they instead observed humans, and wanted to live among them without causing alarm. Henceforth, all of them assumed their human forms when out and about, and took detailed notes of the world they lived in. They moved around regularly so they could decipher all they could of the humans' world, but a more pressing reason why was because they were being hunted—the pacifist group was seen as a threat to the Reptilian race as a whole, as they could possibly jeopardize the whole reason the species traveled across realms to get to Earth in the first place: to eliminate one of the more intelligent group of people in the universe. If this group of peace-making, human-loving Reptilians kept running around and telling people to steer clear of the hostile race, their "purge" of humanity would be one step harder. As if their nuclear weapons and machine guns weren't enough to set them on edge.

As outlaws in the underground Reptilian society, the group had to migrate frequently across countries and continents to stay alive and unseen. Roma's family also knew they could take advantage of her unusually young appearance to place her in "special" schools for young adults, where she would be safer; they repeated this process with many of the other younger Reptilians as well (under three hundred years of age was still young to them), though they tried to spread them out and not keep more then two at the same school. Just recently she has been transferred to a different academy, and is starting with a blank slate once again.

Abilities: Perhaps not an ability, per se, but it definitely makes Roma stand out from the crowd; she is one hundred percent pure Reptilian. Though not much is known about the race—only a small amount of the population acknowledge their existence—what is known for certain is that they are strong, powerful creatures possessing great agility and speed. They also have the ability to shift between a human guise and their true form, hence their obscurity; those that manage to see a Reptilian in their natural form never live a day after, so the information known of this hostile race is vague and unreliable.

True to her kind, Roma hides a great deal of muscle and strength when in her human form, and is exceptionally gifted in hand-to-hand combat. Her power is much higher in her natural form, but in both transformations she can pack a punch. Though this might seem like a disadvantage, given that most others have mental capabilities than can hinder her without even touching her, Roma doesn't see that as a problem; the moment she can land a hit on them and perhaps shatter a few bones, it won't matter. In addition to this, she has a high tolerance for pain, whether it be mental or physical. It takes a very strong opponent to get so much as a squeak of agony out of her, and even then, she won't stop fighting, despite the fact her limbs might be ripped off.

Other: She knows three different languages fluently (Italian, English, and German) and memorized a smattering of countless others to get by in various other countries. Her English is peppered with a slight Italian accent, as this is her native tongue.

Second-year student. I guess if villains are supposed to be put up here in full now, I can make another.

Name:
Quitterie Kaname
Gender: female
Age: 17

Appearance:
Quitterie inherited the physical features and build that make her conventionally attractive and she stands like she knows it. She tends to wear black clothes with red and white featuring on her outfit, usually manifesting as a skirt and fashionably layered tops and various adornments. Her strawberry blond hair has pink highlights and is tied into twintails with red ribbons. She has blue eyes that more than readily meet anyone else’s, typically driving them to look away first. Her smile, whether casual and relaxed or displaying too many teeth, shows she is brimming with confidence, an impression supported by the rest of her body language.

Personality:
Quitterie is sociable and drawn toward people, sometimes to the extent of overriding their desires to be alone. She acts like the world belongs to her, so she often “borrows” things from her friends without permission or invites herself into their personal space, but it doesn’t seem to be done in a malicious way and most people eventually just get used to it. Outright rejecting her would invite a lot of social pressure anyway, since she somehow ends up popular among a group within a short period of time, something to do with how she’ll be friends with anyone despite their tragic pasts, terrible misdeeds, frightening powers, and unfriendly personalities. Her life philosophy seems to be that nothing matters, which is the most empowering thought in the world because you can do whatever you want, and anything that stops you from doing those things is just an artificial construct that you can ignore if you don’t like them. As a result, she’s rarely down for long. She gets bored really easily, though.

Biography:
Her life before the school wasn’t much to talk about. She grew up in the city; her parents divorced; she ran away for a while with her sister until they were found by authorities, hiding out in the house of a dead-eyed man who shuffled through life like a zombie and did whatever Quitterie suggested; her parents wanted to take a daughter each but rather than let themselves be separated, Quitterie’s sister was killed, whereupon Quitterie found herself face-to-face with her first familiar and thereby discovered her powers; et cetera. She worked with and developed her power, like most superpowered kids, with her past being mostly unknown until she was scouted out by BMA as a potential student. She accepted and went to school with a fair bit more in her possession than she’d have without her powers, as well as a small network of familiars who acted as transmitters for her power.

Shame they couldn’t fight while BMA put a fair bit of focus on using superpowers in combat.

Her first year roommate, Rachel Warblade, could, incidentally, transform into a bear. Quitterie’s first introduction to the school was not particularly fun, although she managed to talk her way out of any real harm and walked out with her dignity intact.

Quitterie spent the next few months working on a combat familiar, while deepening her friendship with Rachel. They both had an interest in fashion and makeup and making themselves look great, so perhaps their friendship was natural. But that wasn’t the only thing of interest. There was a small bit of taint of despair in Rachel, and Rachel only really seemed to come alive when she could break things, though Rachel didn’t willingly talk about her past. The Academy was a bit concerned about all of Quitterie’s relationships—which caused a lot of stress since she was chatty with pretty much everyone—but she wasn’t implicated in any deaths in her first year and even Rachel, though she seemed on the brink at times, never despaired enough to receive Quitterie’s kiss of death.

Quitterie and Rachel kept in touch over the summer through telepathy, requiring Quitterie to expand her network a bit and to build in more redundancies, and Quitterie returned without much change from before, except for a wider smile and some excitement shining in her eyes.

Abilities: Despair-inducing soul manipulation

When someone’s soul is consumed by Despair, Quitterie is able to control them. It isn’t perfect control like a puppetmaster (yet, anyway), but rather, she can mark them with what she calls her “kiss”, a symbol near the backs of their necks, which drives them deeper into Despair and drives them toward actions that can only be done by someone in Despair. A common result is death, which is not entirely unintentional, because of what Quitterie considers the main point of her power: with every life taken by Despair, Quitterie can make a familiar out of the victim’s soul. She can make two different kinds of familiars, although she’s working on a few more designs.

The first is a “Qbey”. Qbeys were Quitterie’s first familiar, created without direct intent, and also the most useful. Though they have little offensive power of their own, they earn their keep by being like transmitters for Quitterie’s telepathy. As long as a Qbey is within Quitterie’s range, or within range of another Qbey within Quitterie’s range, and so on with a chain of Qbeys, Quitterie can maintain her influence over her victims. Additionally, they are capable of transmitting telepathic messages to and from anyone with sufficient Despair. Qbeys are autonomous.

The second is a “Monobear”. Monobears were only developed after Quitterie’s entrance into the school, when she discovered the regrettable requirement for combat ability. Monobears must be controlled directly, or else they are inert, but they are capable of some punches and kicks with force behind them, can extend their retractable claws, and more importantly, can explode. The claws are not very long and the explosion not large, but they give Quitterie a lot more options than she would otherwise. She can see and hear through the senses of a Monobear and talk out loud through it in a disguised voice. She can control a number of Monobears at once with decreasing precision, but she’s not capable of doing much else while controlling her Monobears.

Familiars disappear when they are destroyed, but they can also teleport to/from anywhere within the network's range.

Apparently, one side-effect of her power is that her own soul is wrapped in a shell of pure Despair. No power can see her as anything other than a being made of pure Despair. This Despair seems to shield her mind from telepathy, in the sense that there is an intense overload of Despair-inducing interference, to the point where it's hard to find anything else. Those who immerse themselves enough in this Despair will start to find Despair tainting their own minds and souls, too, and while Quitterie’s more than willing to let people try to push all the way, everyone has backed out before she could try out fun things on them. Those who probe the Qbeys or Monobears will find that they are much the same, and the people she has “kissed” also will have a seed of Despair—though that isn’t easily distinguishable from people with despair totally untouched by Quitterie.

You would be correct at this moment. Sign-ups will close at the end of the week, I imagine, and depending on the number of new applicants and the number of people who (like Metalos) seem to drop off the face of the earth, I might allow some second characters. Were I to be persuaded that it was necessary, anyway.

And Allitersonance, no villains are not to be put up here in full. I never said that. As stated in the Lounge, people should PM me with Villain stuff.

No, the villains we create are essentially side characters. If you fill out a form to create one, I'm very grateful because it clears a lot up for me, but there really isn't a need to consider them a second character, seeing as how we'll still focus primarily on the students, and so there isn't any reason to post their profile here. There'll be a special thread in the Lounge for that, similar to the Faculty Profiles.
