[Scout] Cyndadquil (M) Blaze
EXP: 0

[Jacob] Squirtle (M) Torrent
EXP: 1

[Spy] Sneasel (M) Keen Eye
EXP: 2
Item: Razor Claw
Signature move: Cloak and Dagger

Spy is a master of stealth, devoting most of his life to the art, and made him quite good at it. He is, in fact, so good at it that he can cloak himself in darkness even longer than most would expect from your average Faint Attack or the like. Using this attack, Spy can cloak himself in dark energy, rendering him completely invisible to the average eye; only Pokemon with Keen Eye, Pokemon with Aura Sense, or a Pokemon who managed to use Odour Sleuth, Miracle Eye, or Foresight on him before he cloaked will have any idea where he is.

Type: Dark ~ Energy: 4% initially, 2% each action cloaked ~ Target: Self ~ Duration: 3 actions maximum

Effects: Keen Eye, Foresight, Miracle Eye, and Aura Sensing Pokemon will see the faintest outline of a Sneasel, and Odour Sleuthing Pokemon will keep his scent. He remains cloaked for three actions, though if he uses an attack that targets another Pokemon, or if he is hit with an attack, it wears off.

In addition, if Spy uses a claw-based offensive attack when cloaked, it wears off instantly, as normal, and the attack will be guaranteed a Critical Hit.

Usage Gap: three rounds after effects end

[Zarin] Eevee (M) Run Away
EXP: 3
Item: Soothe Bell
Signature attribute: Aura Born

Zarin's father was a Lucario, and by some miracle of breeding, he inherited some of the Riolu line's unique ability to control aura. The power is still weak due to his young age, but this grants him some new abilities. He has a small amount of power over his own aura and can use it to preform a few attacks, and granted him a new ability; Steadfast. These attacks are Mind Reader, Calm Mind, Dark Pulse, and a weak Aura Sphere. The Aura Sphere is not as strong as it could be if he were really a Riolu or Lucario, so it's base power is and is 70 instead of 90 costs 2% more energy.

But this breeding also deprived him of a few moves that Eevee would normally be able to use, namely Growth, Trump Card, Last Resort, and Tickle.

Effects: Ability change to Steadfast, - Growth, Trump Card, Last Resort, Tickle. + Mind Reader, Calm Mind, Dark Pulse, Aura Sphere (70 power +2% Energy cost).

[L'Arc-en-Ciel] Togekiss (M) Serene Grace
EXP: 1
Item: Electrizer

Signature Attribute: Delta Augmentation - Draco
A long time ago, Asber was a very different place. It was a simpler place, less of this fancy computerization and automated doodads and such. But it was also a bit more...prone to experimentation, as the Delta Augmentations were anything to go by. A small shop offering to make one's Pokemon...different was one of the old Asber's features, making them into Delta Pokemon. There are now very few of these Delta Pokemon left in Asber after the Great Destruction a time ago.

L'Arc was one of the Pokemon given a Delta Type, and one of the last remaining, his Normal type stripped away and Draconic energy pumped into his body in its stead, altering his type-DNA permanently. This took a number of his normal moves away, replacing them with powerful weapons of the ancient Dragon type.

Effects: L'Arc-En-Ciel is a Dragon/Flying type. He gains and loses the following moves:

- Baton Pass, Last Resort, Double-Edge, After You, Endeavour, Giga Impact, Natural Gift
+ Draco Meteor, Dragon Pulse, Dragon Dance, Twister, Dragonbreath, Dual Chop

Signature Move: Arc of Joyous Colours

Togekiss are known to congregate where there is joy and happiness, and L'Arc~En~Ciel likes to spread the joy and happiness he has seen with the world! So he gathers up all the happy thoughts he can and lets them burst forth in a concentrated energy form, resembling a beam of light in rainbow colours. The blast is so bright in colour that it'll light up any nearby darkness, and has a chance to confuse the foe with its bright light and colour.

The move will fail if L'Arc~En~Ciel is feeling depressed or angry, and the confusion effect won't happen if the foe has no eyes or is blinded by sand, etc.

Type: Normal ~ Base Power: 10% ~ Energy: 7% ~ Accuracy: 95% ~ Target: Single

Effects: 20% Chance to confuse foe

Usage Gap: Three Rounds

Groudon and Kyogre once battled in a rain-filled crater, but their wrath was felt through all of Hoenn. A downpour that would drown the world, it was said, struggled against a drought that would be just as deadly, the sun tearing through clouds that were only too eager to smother its light. That conflict supposedly ended with the great Rayquaza as the mediator… but looking upon the Blazerain Plateau, one might wonder if the gods of the ocean and the land haven’t been unleashed once again.

The clouds are dark and thick like choking smoke and they writhe and race across the brilliant blue sky, sending curtains of rain tearing across the field and leaving the grass slick and wet in their wake. But their leaving is little mercy. The sun blazes with a fury to match any storm, its rays like tongues of flame.

Beyond the treacherous footing, the plateau itself is largely unremarkable. An unfortunate trio of trainers stop by a stream, where one claims a convenient rock under the shade of a tree, and the other two take up positions on opposite sides of a stream.

The more experienced Coloursfall grins and tosses a poké ball over the stream, where it splits open and spews out liquid light. The light seems to solidify around a tiny, fuzzy form that is nearly lost in the grass, and when it fades, it reveals only a dot of yellow. Immediately, the uguu readings of the battle shatter the scale, and a joltik peers up at his opponent, as though daring her to try to hurt it.

But Sunflower is more cold-hearted than she seems, and she wastes no time summoning her own battler. The sunkern that faces the joltik has its own claim to cuteness, but all involved would have to admit there is no contest. Still—this is a pokémon battle, and appearances are not the deciding factor here. Sunflower gives her set of orders first. Coloursfall scratches his chin in contemplation, then gives a short series of commands of his own.

As the last words pass from Coloursfall’s lips, a particularly large cloud sweeps overhead, leaving the trainers drenched and spluttering once more.

Round One

Sparks fly off Fritz’s body where the rain hits, but he doesn’t seem to mind. Instead, he raises his head and spits a ball of string, sparking just as he is, into the air. The ball unfurls into a massive web and falls, entrapping Lucy beneath. Electricity shoots through her body, sending her rolling and writing in the grass, but it doesn’t hurt much. Still, she finds it much harder to move beneath the webbing, especially with the thin strands of the web sticking to her everywhere they touch. Lucy harrumphs and decides that she can at least have a shield if he’s going to go for attacks. She focuses, and a thin shell of light forms around her.

But attacking just now is not what Fritz has in mind. Instead, he darts around the grass and teases Lucy about his speed. Look at him go! While she’s all entangled in his web, he can run circles around her, faster than she can even turn! Woohoo!

Lucy narrows her eyes and waits for him to stop. When he finally does, not too far from her, she grins ominously. Now it’s his turn to get entangled in something uncomfortable. She spits a single seed that digs into Fritz’s back, and as he struggles in vain to see what landed on him, he feels it. The seed splits open and releases a small shoot that looks much like the leaves on Lucy’s own head, but more importantly, roots branch out and snake across his body, even digging into his skin here and there. He winces, though it’s more uncomfortable than painful. He doesn’t really feel much when the roots start draining some nutrients out of him, but he does take a moment to watch the single orb of green light that floats from the plant’s leaves and into Lucy’s own.

Then he’s off, darting through the grass even faster than before. He leaps at Lucy and brings his claws down, cutting a shallow X into Lucy’s face. Lucy yelps—the unexpected sting is only strengthened by the burn of the dull yellow-green energy still lingering on the cuts. Then she laughs and hops backward, her leaves glowing a brighter green. It’s time for her own attack now. Her first. She draws energy from the plants around her, the essence of life itself, into her leaves. The energy coalesces into a glittering green ball of light that shines not unlike the sun. With a cry, she looses the attack straight into Fritz’s face.

Where there might otherwise have been hostility, both pokémon’s eyes shine with excitement instead. These first attacks might hurt, but that’s the price of battle, and a little bit of pain is just what they need to get the adrenaline going.

Despite the sun’s efforts, the rain shows no hint of abating. It seems the pokémon will have to endure the downpour for at least a little longer.

Round Two

Fritz draws on a slight amount of faint yellow-green energy that pulses around him, at first faint but the glow growing stronger each time. The dim flashes draw Lucy’s attention even more than before, and she watches curiously when he raises his forelimbs. But instead of anything particularly interesting, he just wriggles in a way that makes her eyes rebel against the sight. The flashes of bug energy grow and even flare out in waves, but it does little of consideration.

Lucy watches, queasy. Those movements are just… wrong. Unnatural. She knows he’s a bug, but even a bug-type shouldn’t move that way. It doesn’t really hurt—it’s just gross. She tears her eyes from him and instead focuses on protecting herself. A soft green aura flares to life around her, a thin veil standing between her and any of the subtler cruelties Fritz might care to introduce.

But he’s not that inclined to be subtle just yet, and instead draws upon more energy from within. This time, his ocelli shimmer, one blue and one red. The lights brighten and flicker, then beams of light shoot out and intertwine. The air fills with the drone of a flying swarm and strikes Lucy in the face, drawing a cry. But instead of revenge, her leaf glows, and with a flick, a leaf floats down to her mouth. She blows a soothing tune that drifts on the wind. The music is calming and reminds Fritz of the warmth of his trainer’s hands or neck as he cuddles against her, even in the bitter cold of the rain. He curls up in the grass, and his head droops to the dirt. Even as the tune fades, he continues to sleep in the mud.

Lucy grins. Well, now that he’s defenceless, it’s finally time to attack. She draws on a well of power deep within herself, one still uncoloured by any unique skills her trainer might one day choose to teach her, and fires a thin white beam from her shoot. The beam strikes Fritz in the side, and the little joltik stirs. Still, after a tense moment, he settles back down again.

Even now, the rain does not end, though the sun frays the edges of the cloud and cuts through more distant clouds like a flaming sword. Lucy stares longingly at a stream of sunlight just behind Coloursfall, but she knows she won’t be able to soak in the light just yet. Later, perhaps.

Round Three

With a short exhale, Fritz jerks awake, and it takes him a second to gather his bearings and remember what his trainer ordered during his short rest. For a second, all he can focus on is Lucy’s admittedly amusing expression, and then he remembers what he’s supposed to do. He draws some of his innate poison to his claw and leaps on her face, dragging the sharp point across her skin. Lucy yelps at the sting, and he skitters off as quickly as he can. Lucy, though, isn’t letting him get away so easily. She can feel the stinging liquid on the edges of her cuts. Poison her, will he? Well, her turn!

Fritz flinches at the giant glob of purple goop, but that does nothing to stop it from splattering all over him. And he finds, to some disgust, that it’s warm and chunky. Well, whatever. He runs at Lucy and slashes at her again, with a little more of his own poison.

This time, though, it’s Lucy’s turn to grin. She lets him land on the ground unhindered, and even move out of the way, but only for a second of false hope. Then she calls upon the earth as she has so many times in her dreams. With a roar louder than she could ever produce, she raises a wave of pure energy from beneath Fritz’s feet, throwing him bodily off the ground. Thrill and terror shoots through him the second he begins to drop, but the landing is soft and squishy, mud and icky purple goop.

With no intent to feel that again, Fritz quickly gets to his feet and focuses on the sunkern. She stares back, a little self-conscious, but unaware of his little mental intrusion. He finds the knowledge of that nasty earth power at the forefront of her mind, and with a quick jerk of his claw, severs it from her mind. Oh, her mind will make the connection soon enough, but he’s safe for a little while, at least. Lucy doesn’t really have time to think about what Fritz could be doing, though, because she finds herself almost on the verge of panic. Earth power, her trainer had said. She knows that move. She knows she knows that move. Or at least, she should, but when she tries to remember how to do it, she just draws a blank. And when the protective green veil fades before her eyes, she realises she’s lost her chance.

The first shaft of sunlight pierces the darkness, then another, then a third. Lucy lifts her face to the light, relief and a newfound confidence washing over her face, and even her precious sun-shaped stone seems to warm in response. Fritz, too, peers up, and realises to his horror that the droplets coating his fuzz is making him sparkle. But as more and more rays punch through the edges of the passing cloud, he realises the water will not be with him long. And if the sun remains with them for too long, he’ll probably miss the cooling coating. But at least, he decides, fire isn’t imminent, and he’s doing as well as a bug this uguu should; he doesn’t mind if Lucy enjoys herself in the sun, as long he still has a chance to win.

Coloursfall and Sunflower had both been warned to avoid a particularly-disliked move even at the cost of strategy, and even though the tactic couldn’t be stopped by the referee. But, groping blindly for options, Sunflower decides she’ll defy its will in an attempt to salvage her chance at victory (for why else could she commit such a horrible act?)

It is a fatal mistake, and Sunflower has little time to regret it.

Without a word, the referee summons its gallade, who jabs his elbow-blade into Sunflower’s throat. Blood gushes out of Sunflower’s neck with every heartbeat, splattering even all over her sunkern, and a slow grin slithers across the referee’s face.

Both battlers exchange glances at the referee’s distant, yet creepy, expression, and shake their heads to return to the battle, the next round already well under way.

Round Four

Fritz wastes no time springing on Lucy again and driving a dripping claw through her skin. This time, though, she doesn’t try to retaliate. Instead, she just looks at him—not staring, not hurt, not even angry. Understanding, maybe. Compassion. Fritz stares back, confused, and when she speaks, her voice soft, he hangs onto her every word. This is just a play battle, really. Their trainers—well, they’re going to get married, and Fritz and Lucy already live in the same house. No need to make things bitter. They should just put their differences behind them and talk a bit, like friends, like pokémon who care about each other. And, though she doesn’t say it, Fritz thinks he hears it implied: maybe they can be more.

Lucy demonstrates what they should do instead, showing feats of skill and beauty the other can appreciate. She twirls and hops with the grace and control of a warrior, swinging her leaf about, her face settling into a calm confidence that he wants to learn. He watches, enraptured by her dance, and it’s only when she stops and takes a bow that he realises he had something to do. But he doesn’t want to hurt her anyway, and really, he could watch her all day. Especially in the sun, her face is so radiant—and oh, how her eyes shine.

… but, he thinks, his trainer wants him to attack, even though Lucy is Sunflower’s pokémon, and they did come here preparing for a fun battle. Of course things hurt. That’s what attacks do. So he should attack, he thinks, follow his trainer’s orders, just this one time. Lucy should understand. He leaps at her again and drives a blue claw into her face. But, to his horror, his claw tears deeper than he intended, and the dark liquid dribbling from his claw mixes with her blood. He staggers back, regret immediately bubbling to the surface, blood dripping from his claw, but his apologies are cut short when she fires a thin white beam into his face.

Fritz averts his eyes. Well, that last wound he gave her does look like it must hurt, so maybe he deserves this. The dark cloud sweeping above them, bringing with it a curtain or rain, only echoes his thoughts, and he shrinks to a tiny yellow ball of yellow fuzz, hoping his uguuness will earn her forgiveness.

He leaps at Lucy again and plunges his claw into untouched skin. Lucy screams, eyes wide, but the scream warps from pain to something rougher, and she quickly forgets about making faces. She gives into her fury at her predicament at last, all the pain from the attacks she’s taken and the nausea within, the not-quite-lies she tells herself so she can continue to enjoy fighting. She leaps at Fritz with more force than he anticipated, and she thrashes and crushes him to the ground with all the force she can muster. Apparently, she’s unhindered by her lack of limbs, and only uses her body weight to her advantage to stomp on him, though she never quite manages to pin him. Fritz finally manages to scuttle away from the attempted death blows, and she’s left breathing hard.

Fritz shakes rain off his fuzz and eyes Lucy with something that would be a nervous grin if he could have an expression that said something other than “pet me.” It seems that she’s agreeing that they should fight, after all, and he’s fine with that. She seems angrier than expected, though, like that attack was driven more by passion and rage than just the intent to win, and that’s what makes him confused. They do still have something, right? Or maybe this is what she truly feels, and she was just tricking him. He clutches at the earth at the thought. Well, she can use whatever trick she has to in order to secure victory, he supposes, and he’s willing to forgive her—after he beats her into unconsciousness, at least.

He leaps at her face again, claws covered in more poisonous secretions, and gouging out yet more flesh. Lucy doesn’t bother with the eyes, this time, and screams louder than before, wanting only to pummel him to the earth. She slams him to the ground and thrashes with all she’s got, but this time, her attack is full of more desperation. She’s not far from a loss, she knows. She can feel it.

Sore all over and feeling like a crushed bug, Fritz would say the same of himself, but he can also see that Lucy’s not going to last long, either. She turns on him, and both are aware that they’re both likely just one blow from unconsciousness. A moment of clarity reaches Lucy when she suddenly remembers how to make the earth explode beneath Fritz’s feet, but the knowledge comes too late, and he’s already upon her.

A poisonous claw slides through yellow skin and injects one last burst of poison. Lucy wobbles on her base, and, finally, lets herself fall.

Not looking especially surprised, Sunflower recalls Lucy into the mercy of her poké ball, and after a good cuddle, Coloursfall gives Fritz the same. Both walk over to the referee, who still seems lost in thought. The two trainers pause awkwardly, then with an exchange of nods, Sunflower attempts to grab its attention.

The referee flinches, then realises with some disappointment that Sunflower is not, in fact, a still-bleeding zombie, and recalls with some regret that it left its gallade behind. It grumbles, but, having not been forced to watch the pokémon play lovebirds like their trainers, it doesn’t make another attempt on Sunflower’s life. Still, it informs her of the lack of guarantee of the absence of anthrax in the envelope it gives her. Coloursfall does not receive a similar warning, which doesn’t seem to comfort him much.

The rain, meanwhile, continues strong, the roiling clouds dominating the sky. Their togekiss- and charizard-powered flight back to the trainer outpost is accompanied by the torrential downpour nearly all the way, only to give way to a thunderstorm that forces them to a walk.
