If they don't, then they can't catch anymore, because the Pokemon get scared of the trainer much more easily than other region Pokemon. The Pokemon also have a disease where if one faints, they... die... They call it a Nuzlocke, and most trainers in Unova have to endure it. Only very few Pokemon are spared from the disease. Because of that, their colors are changed, making them "shiny". If their entire team dies, then they are banned from getting any more Pokemon from that region. My Nuzlocke... it ended shortly, when Lenora---she's like the Whitney of Unova--- killed my entire team with her Watchog...
