What

How the hell does a system having lower graphics make it classic? The damn thing came out AFTER the N64. It's a hand held. Let me tell you, when I first saw the Game Boy Color demonstrated in stores, I was amazed. All I had was that pea-green Game Boy. I never had a fancy Game Boy Pocket, I had that huge brick and it was awesome. You can only imagine how psyched I was to see Nintendo finally cranking out a color hand held that's worthy of the Game Boy lineage. I didn't even think a hand held with Super Nintendo power was even possible.

Get back to me in ten years when the Game Boy Color is over 20 years old. Then we'll talk.

Count how many times people have described Mega Man 9 as having a "classic" look and feel. Also bear in mind that "classic" is more subjective than definitive.

...

There's a difference between having a "classic" feel and actually being classic. The first six Mega Man games were on the NES, The ninth they just did it to make older gamers happy.

God dammit, stop making me feel old.

Hmm... Oldest games I've played are Balance of Power 1990 Edition (1988, despite the title) and Hidden Agenda (1988). Other old political/government sims I've played would be Conflict: Middle East Political Simulator and Crisis in the Kremlin. I like them all to an extent, but I love Crisis in the Kremlin. Really a genre long gone...

I still get lots of mileage out of Dragon Warrior Monsters and Pokemon TCG on the GBC. Bought TCG used and the battery has yet to die.

Haven't played them in ages because they're so hard to find, but Vigilante 8 and the sequel 2nd Offence rule. Vehicular combat is another genre I consider long gone.

I'm going to steal the 1999/2000 definition of classic that some folks in this thread used and say Diablo II. I can't be damned to play on Battle.net again, but just making my way through single player is proving fun, though mostly in short bursts.

Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed is the only fun Need for Speed game.

Really, I'm mostly stuck in the late-90s to early 21st century era that I started really gaming in, but onward to older console games...

Donkey Kong Country is amazing. I generally didn't like platformers, but that game was the exception.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is also amazing.

Centipede is timeless for me. There's not a whole lot like it.

Today I was reminded of Dig Dug. Which I happen to have on an arcade collection on 3-and-a-half inch floppies. Which my computer lacks a drive for. >_< Not that I could expect one from a modern PC. Dig Dug rules! Also has Pole Position, Galaga, and Pac-Man, all of which are rather fun too.
