Default [15] Sylph vs Keldeo (ref: The Omskivar)

1 vs 1
DQ: 3 days
Damage Cap: 35%
Banned/Restricted Moves: OHKOs, direct healing, Pain Split, moves that KO the user; Chills are restricted to 3 uses in the match
Arena: Centrico Plaza

Centrico Plaza is the crown jewel resting in the core of Lumiose City. Just the Prism Tower, standing at the very center of it, is already one of the most widely recognized landmarks of the entire region; and even the rest of the location isn't too shabby, with verdant gardens, beautifully patterned cobblestone pathes, the sound of the river running underneath the floor, and a surrounding circle of mid-height Kalosian houses, the splendorous local arquitecture adorning the plaza as a foil. Many businesses have come into being at the ground floors of the area, but today, the world-famous roundway of egg hatching is all Asber's, with barriers sealing off all of the many roads leading into the city's very own hub -- and of course, curious crowds gathering at the edges to watch the competition.

For this round of the tournament, each player has been loaned a fresh Pokémon from Kalos. Battles in this round will not last longer than five rounds; if neither Pokémon has fainted by the end of the fifth round, the winning trainer will be the one with the greatest sum of health and energy remaining on their Pokémon.

Sylph's rental Pokémon

flabebe female Flabébé <Flower Veil> @ Oran Berry
(feel free to pick a flower color)

Keldeo's rental Pokémon

helioptile male Helioptile <Sand Veil> @ Oran Berry

Up next:
1.Keldeo issues commands
2.DarkAura issues commands

Let's go, Helioptile. I'll call you Maxwell. Start with a medium Substitute, then a fairly focused Electroweb to tangle the Flabebe up (in case of clones or substitute, drape the attack over a wide range as normal), then an Iron Tail for some good damage. If she protects or is unhittable on action two or three, Charge and delay all your actions.

Oh, and if you're attracted, well! <3 I bet she'd just drop you for a good-looking Swirlix that happened to pass by - with Electroweb, you can make sure you're the only one for her and also show her your amazing artistry with electricity, so she won't ever leave you! Then, you've got to increase your attractiveness even more. Iron Tail turns your beautiful amazing tail into a white glowy beautiful amazing tail, and even better, you can show her your maneuverability in midair! But if you're not feeling too keen on that for your last action, you can increase both your mental fortitude and your glowiness! with a Charge.

Substitute (15) ~ Electroweb / Charge ~ Iron Tail / Electroweb / Charge

Since this was a DQ before the first round, we've decided to bring in a replacement entrant instead of ending the match.

Sylph will now be renting the Helioptile and facing Keldeo. Best of luck to both battlers!

Alright Helioptile, I'm going to call you Indie.

Indie, start with a Sandstorm so you can get some cover for this match. Since you have that nice veil, you will feel right at home in the sand while that little flower pixie is grounded. After which, I want you to Dig to avoid that Webbing if you can. After which, tunnel under that pixie and pop up to give them the best hit you can!

Sandstorm ~ Dig (down) ~ Dig (attack)

Wait, are we both battling with Helioptile? Since Sylph subbed in for DarkAura, I thought she would get Flabebe?

Sorry sorry was helping a friend move. Okay lets try this again.

So I have a flower faerie? Very well then, lets hit it Belle. First thing's first, since they re taking the time to make a doll of themselves, why not make one yourself? Substitute (15%), followed up by Safeguard to help stave off status effects. Finally, go for a Petal Blizzard.

Battles in this round will not last longer than five rounds; if neither Pokémon has fainted by the end of the fifth round, the winning trainer will be the one with the greatest sum of health and energy remaining on their Pokémon.

The last battle of the first round of the tournament had yet to start, even when other battles all around Centrico Plaza were winding to a close. Despite this, Keldeo was the paragon of patience, waiting serenely as her first opponent, DarkAura, fell into some sort of stupor. It took a while for the ASB officials to catch on, and by then she was standing in a veritable puddle of her own drool (the League-owned Abra was quite reluctant initiate the physical contact necessary to teleport her away).

A replacement trainer was quickly found, and things went swimmingly until the rental Pokemon were sent out. From one Pokeball materialized a Helioptile; from the other, a Flabébé. Confusion ensued, and both trainers dove for the Helioptile, who shrieked in pain and confusion as he suddenly found himself standing in for the rope in a game of tug-of-war. An ASB official desperately tried to break it up by offering the Flabébé to Sylph, but to the poor Helioptile it still felt like several days before Sylph grudgingly accepted the flower fairy.

There remained one last thing to settle. While the Pokemon dispute went on, the referee excused himself for night shifts at another job; he was later found curled up on the sofa of a café, sound asleep, clearly having been bested by his brutal work schedule. A large metal dragon was dragged in as a replacement, and everything was finally in place for the battle to begin.

Round One

Sylph (O)

Flabebe @Oran Berry
Belle (F) <Flower Veil>
Health: 100%
Energy: 100%
Status: Quite perplexed, but ready to battle.
Commands: Substitute (15%) ~ Safeguard ~ Petal Blizzard

Keldeo (O)

Helioptile @Oran Berry
Maxwell (M) <Sand Veil>
Health: 100%
Energy: 100%
Status: Shaking out her sore forelimbs and tail.
Commands: Substitute (15%) ~ Electroweb/Charge ~ Iron Tail/Electroweb/Charge

Maxwell quickly set about making a decoy, eager to shield himself from his opponent and perhaps avoid being used as a tug-of-war rope again. Squeezing his eyes shut in concentration, he let out a thick streamer of electricity that struck the ground in front of him. Bizarrely, it did not dissipate, and instead built upon itself until there was a flat slab of electricity, roughly the same length as Maxwell, lying on the ground. Maxwell nudged it with his nose, giving it a jolt of life force, and the flickering construct extended four forks of electricity to serve as limbs. It stretched them all in turn, then raised the shorter end of its body – its neck, presumably. Eerily enough, it did not have a head, but still seemed very aware of its surroundings.

Belle eyed the Substitute warily. If Maxwell was going to have a protector, she’d have to make one for herself too, to make things even. She floated around the plaza, grabbing hardy plants that had managed to spring up in the cracks in the asphalt. Then she conjured a few petals and set them in the shape of a flower on top of the pile. Stirred into action by the vitality in the petals, the plant matter quickly rearranged itself into a rough approximation of a Flabébé, sitting on top of the flower provided by its creator. The completed construct floated by Belle, ready to protect her from harm.

While Belle was making her Substitute, Maxwell was laying out thin streamers of electricity in front of him. Once he had enough, he skittered to and fro, weaving the threads into a net. When the net was complete, he gingerly took one corner in his mouth and ran towards Belle, intending to drape it over her; however, her Substitute knocked her out of the way, and Maxwell succeeded only in ensnaring the construct. It struggled to free itself, shuddering occasionally when it was zapped by electricity running through the mesh.

Belle took one look at her bound and trembling Substitute and promptly decided she needed more protection. She didn’t fancy ending up like her decoy, rendered immobile by electricity. A green glow began to seep out of her flower’s stamens, slowly swirling around her and expanding until she was completely surrounded by the ethereal barrier.

Maxwell’s mind was far from focused on inflicting status, however. A molten metal-like substance seeped out from between the scales on his tail, coating it in silver. It would work just as well as the swords of heroes that smote malicious fairies in the stories Maxwell had heard as a hatchling. He sprinted towards Belle, leaping into the air and turning a somersault to bring his tail slamming onto her – only to be intercepted once again by the Substitute, who had managed to untangle itself in the nick of time. It burst apart on contact, scattering plant matter everywhere.

Belle huffed in irritation. She’d expended a fair amount of effort on that decoy, and Maxwell had torn it apart like a savage. Petals began to peel off her flower, new ones rapidly growing in to replace those that were lost, until Belle was surrounded by a veritable curtain of petals. Sensing danger, Maxwell’s Substitute leapt on top of its creator, shielding him with its own body. With a cry Belle swept the petals into action, creating a storm of red and pink that swirled viciously around her. Maxwell’s decoy was slashed and buffeted by the petals; when the blizzard died down, it looked rather disfigured, and it flickered dangerously.

Sylph (O)

Flabebe @Oran Berry
Belle (F) <Flower Veil>
Health: 85%
Energy: 85%
Status: Yearning to destroy Maxwell’s Substitute. Safeguard is in effect (4 more actions).
Commands: Substitute (15%) ~ Safeguard ~ Petal Blizzard

Keldeo (O)

Helioptile @Oran Berry
Maxwell (M) <Sand Veil>
Health: 85% | Substitute: 6%
Energy: 83%
Status: Feeling pretty good.
Commands: Substitute (15%) ~ Electroweb ~ Iron Tail

Terrain notes
There is a net – fast losing its electricity – draped across the ground about a meter away from the battlers.

Final notes
Sylph attacks first next round.
There has got to be some sort of synonym for petals ;;

Alright then, lets start this off again Belle.

Now that little lizard there must be feeling very good about themselves. Lets make them feel a little more hot-headed with a Swagger. Follow this with Magical Leaf to finish that substitute off, then blast them with Moonblast to give them a taste of your power!

If they protect or detect however, switch to a Calm Mind to give yourself a boost as well. You are doing good so far. Keep it up!

Swagger ~ Magical Leaf/Calm Mind ~ Moonblast/Calm Mind

Great job, Maxwell! Give me a Charge as she Swaggers your sub, then hit hard with a delayed Thunderbolt (make sure to keep the Charge up until she Magical Leafs, and then attack). Finish with another Thunderbolt for some nice damage.

Round 2

Team Sylph
Flabebe
Belle (F) <Flower Veil> @Oran Berry
Health: 85%
Energy: 85%
Status: Yearning to destroy Maxwell’s Substitute. Safeguard is in effect (4 more actions).

Team Keldeo
Helioptile
Maxwell (M) <Sand Veil> @Oran Berry
Health: 85%
Substitute: 6%
Energy: 83%
Status: Feeling pretty good.

Maxwell turned his attention back to the battle, the quadrupedal flickering block of electricity following suit. He threw his ear-flaps open, creating a low hum as they began to flap quickly, lightly but deliberately, the markings at the edges taking on a slight glow. If one watched the Helioptile closely, they might make out the occasional dancing sparks across his face, down his back or around his feet. But Belle was not watching closely. Instead, she was seizing her moment.

The tiny fairy twisted the pistil of her flower. She knew the plant just as well as she knew herself, this wouldn't hurt it at all--but it would cause the petals to flare up around her as the flower leaned forward, giving her a more sinister look. She arched her eyes, trying not to let her diminutive shape lessen the emotion behind her words.

"Hiding behind your little robot won't protect you forever!" she shouted. "You can soak up all the electricity you want, I'm still comin' for you like a ton of bricks!" The irony struck her as suddenly as the loud static sound emanating from Maxwell's Substitute, preventing any sound from reaching its true target's ears. Belle taunted her opponent as loudly as she could, but the white noise only grew to match her volume, until she finally gave up. In frustration, she floated higher in the air, pointing the bottom of her flower at her opponent.

The leaves at the base of the stem began to glow, first green, then blue, then purple. Mesmerized, Maxwell watched the show of light, the leaves spinning in a circle around the Flabébé as more of them grew from the stem to join the magical plant wheel. With a minute but ferocious shriek, Belle sent the attack shooting at Maxwell, who could only watch as his Substitute stood valiantly in its way. One leg was sliced off--no, two--three--as sparks flew. When the onslaught of leaves was over, Maxwell was shocked and delighted to see that his little box of electricity was still standing, albeit on a single leg. Grinning, he flared his earflaps, sending a monstrous bolt of electricity at Belle.

Belle careened through the air as lightning coursed through her body. She could feel parts of her flower burning--then, before she could fully register he enormity of this first attack, another bolt hit her, sending her spinning uncomfortably across the plaza to land, hard, in the dirt of a nearby garden.

Maxwell looked very pleased with himself, and he reached out to his Substitute for a hi-five, before sheepishly retracting his offer, having remembered that his little electric soldier only had one leg left. He hoped he hadn't offended it. Can Substitutes be offended? It didn't matter--there was Belle, floating slowly from the foliage, spitting out soil. She looked mad. Actually, before she had looked mad, when she was taunting him--now, she looked absolutely livid. Her cheeks flushed beyond their natural blush marks, she raised her head to the sky, squeezing her eyes shut and drawing upon the currently-invisible moon. The Omskivar, Sylph, and Keldeo all looked up with her (Keldeo frequently glancing back at the Flabébé to make sure it didn't try anything funny), and all smiled slightly when they saw a faint silver crescent fade into clarity in the sky.

All the while, Belle's flower glowed with soaked-up lunar energy. A white-pink ball of power swelled from the tip of the pistil, and when it stopped, Belle grabbed it with her tiny hands (it seemed to weigh nothing) and threw it bodily at Maxwell. Maxwell, who had not marveled at the moon, looked solemnly at his faithful automaton, who gave no indication that it had noticed, instead bounding forward twice, then springing into a mighty leap. Cosmic power met condensed electricity in midair--

Crack-KHOOOOM.

Maxwell and Belle stopped shielding their eyes with their earflaps and flower, respectively, to see a dazzling shower of sparks and fairy dust. The onlooking Lumiose residents applauded this magnificent firework as The Omskivar waved his flags to signal the round's end.

Round 2 Finish

Team Sylph
Flabebe
Belle (F) <Flower Veil> @Oran Berry
Health: 52%
Energy: 73%
Status: Good riddance. Safeguard is in effect (1 more action).

Team Keldeo
Helioptile
Maxwell (M) <Sand Veil> @Oran Berry
Health: 85%
Energy: 73%
Status: Happy his Substitute went out in a blaze of glory.

Calculations
Charge- 2% energy (Sp.Def up)
Swagger- 4% energy
Magical Leaf- 5% damage, 3% energy
Thunderbolt- 22% damage, 4% energy (Sp.Def down)
Thunderbolt- 11% damage, 4% energy
Moonblast- 11% damage, 5% energy

Notes
-Really sorry this is late guys
-Swagger is blocked by Substitute.
-Charge's Special Defense boost, though temporary, softened the Magical Leaf just enough to spare the Substitute for an action.
-The first Thunderbolt was almost a critical hit. That would have been ridiculous.
-I totally did ref both Thunderbolts in the text, but it might be hard to tell because the second one hit immediately after the first.
-If Moonblast would have hit, it would have lowered Maxwell's Special Attack.
-Flabébé are really small, did I mention that enough times?
-Keldeo attacks next

Okay, let's just go for sheer damage this round. Make another medium Substitute, then keep Thunderbolting away. If she has clones or a sub up on the last two actions, or you can hit her with Round but not with Thunderbolt for some other reason, spread out a Round. If you can't hit her at all with either attack for any reason bar substitute and clones, try to get a boost with Charge Beam.

Substitute (15) ~ Thunderbolt / Round / Charge Beam x2
