Default Quick question about the DS wifi usb device.

Currently, my ds lite is incompatible with my internet connection, as it is WPA. Would it still be incompatible if I bought and used the Nintendo wifi usb device? Just wondering before I waste my time/money.

No, I don't think so.

I think that was the reason that Nintendo started marketing it-because people didn't want to switch to WEP.

I tried the USB thing, and I'm not sure it works.

It's not great. I have one, and it's really a hassle to get working. Although things could have changed since I bought mine. I'd just switch to WEP, but if WPA is an absolute necessity, it's your only option.

...It's really easy to use o_o
It's worked on every DS I've tried so far, and the Wii (but I use my other connection for wii). The signal doesn't reach very far, though :P

Changing security won't cost, though.

I would not recommend that you buy the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB. Yes, it will work with your DS Lite. That is not the difficult part. The difficult part is to get it to work with your computer.

You also have to consider that Nintendo discontinued these, and if you're buying one second-hand there's a fair chance it's broken. In any case, you can't expect a lot of support with these things.

The connector doesn't work properly with a very wide range of operating systems and network configurations (the software was originally designed for Windows XP, and so far as I know the most current drivers are for Vista). Because it is pretty much designed not to be configurable, if you happen to have a system that doesn't work very well with its default settings, good luck fixing it.

If you're lucky and you get one that works well with the equipment you have, it works just fine; it's very simple to use, and your DS won't give you any hassle about it. If you're not, it's going to be a huge hassle to get it working, if you ever do get it to function properly (see for example this thread, though I don't know the outcome of that). In general I would recommend you stay away from the thing unless you're sure you've got no other options and are willing to take the risk.

Hm, ok. I've been trying to connect to BTopenzone instead, but that's not working either. This is getting really annoying. Do hotspots even work?

I would change my settings, but my Dad doesn't want to reduce the security of the connection. So I am a bit stuck. =/

Thanks anyway. ^^;
