On a simple boat way out in the middle of the ocean, two trainers find themselves once again battling it out in a familiar spot. Although the boat's destination differs, it's of little concern to either trainer, and they eagerly unleash their choice of fighter as the referee swoops down on his Aerodactyl.

A bright flash of acidic green light engulfs almost everything as Scratch the Porygon materializes on Mawile's side of the boat, carefully examining its surroundings with its wide, blank eyes.
Mulder the Elgyem appears on Blade's side of the boat in an equally bright but less large flash of white light, and the psychic gives off an eerie cry as he frantically scans everything around him.
Upon seeing its opponent, Scratch does some scanning of its own; it analyzes Mulder's ability of choice, and finds that he seems to have a knack for remaining patient and observant. It seems he uses this to scout for an opponent's weak spot, and observe their strategy. Very useful. The Porygon stores this data in its memory banks and swivels round to face the stern looking Elgyem with his shifty eyes.
As the referee hastily recalls his flailing Aerodactyl, the trainers are relived to have the extra room, and are more than ready to ignite their old rivalry.

Round one

Scratch starts off by altering its body structure to a more useful typing. It runs through the data in its memory banks and selects the dark type as its choice via its knowledge of the move thief.
The colour of Scratch’s body slowly begins to fade away, and the bright blue and pink is replaced by an inky blackness. Scratch gives a brief click, and it carefully examines its new hide, checking that everything has been fully updated.
Mulder glares over at the Porygon, casting a critical eye on the machine’s new look. Scratch gives a slightly confused whirr as Mulders’ glare suddenly begins to become uncomfortably intense, and the Elgyem’s eyes glow with an eerie white light. The light continues to grow in intensity, and Mulder sweeps it over Scratch's form, peering into its strange, robotic soul with the piercing light. Needless to say, its not a very comfortable feeling for Scratch, and he can feel the protection his dark typing offers being stripped away by the power of mIrAcLeS.
It's a welcome relief for Scratch when the light from Mulder's eyes fades and they return to their mild green. Even if the Elgyem's regular staring still makes him feel uncomfortable.

Scratch gives off a series of whirrs and beeps as it tries to dispel the weird feeling of vulnerability, then sets about launching some offensive attacks.
A jagged blob of ghostly energy begins to form at the end of its snout, and Scratch jerks its head forward to send it zigzagging towards Mulder. The Elgyem’s stern expression changes to one of pain as the projectile bursts into a spray of purplish black upon making contact with him, burning painfully into his skin. He gingerly rubs the painful, blackened mark on his chest, and then quickly reverts to his grim demeanour as he turns to face Scratch again. The mark seriously smarts though, and he can't help but find the nasty blackened patch quite troubling, but he tries to keep his fears hidden, and instead focuses on launching some offense of his own.
The markings on his head begin to glow a deep purple as he focuses his psychic energy, and Scratch gives off a series of distressed beeps as it feels its memory banks and sensors being warped by the Elgyem’s psychic abilities. The Porygon’s limbs rotate wildly as Mulder amps up his assault on its sensors, before he is forced to gradually release his mental grip.

The shaken Scratch takes a moment to check its systems are in working order again, then quickly twists its limbs back into their correct positions. The Elgyem obviously managed to see through its earlier type changing trick. This will not do at all. Payback is clearly in order.
Scratch rises up with another series of frantic whirrs and beeps, its wide white eyes standing out in stark contrast to its new pitch black coat. Mulder warily backs away to the edge of the boat as he sees a bright orb of red and blue light shining from the Porygon’s muzzle, but finds himself transfixed by its vivid glow. As he stares up in fascination, Scratch blasts forth a blindingly bright beam of bug energy that twists through the air. It unleashes a high, droning hum as it travels along, and Mulder is snapped out of his daze as the energy strikes him, engulfing his senses in the annoying sound.
He staggers back a few steps, clutching his large head awkwardly with his stubby hands and uttering a few pained groans. Eventually he manages to pull himself together again, and he slowly begins to focus on launching another mental attack. His head markings begin to glow as he closes his eyes and concentrates, and Scratch finds its sensors being warped and toyed with again.
It gives a frantic series of beeps as it rotates and writhes about in pain, before hanging limply in the air as the glow from Mulder's markings grow dim again. As Scratch slowly raises itself upright again, it carefully checks for any lingering damage to its memory banks, but finds them to be still in working order. It has certainly sustained quite a lot of damage from the crafty psychic though, but it does nothing to quell the machine's determination chip.

Round two

As its dark typing is no longer proving to be useful, Scratch sets about changing to something more effective. It rapidly searches through its memory banks and selects its knowledge of the move iron tail.
Gradually, Scratch’s body begins to lose its new inky black colouring, and it begins to take on a shiny, metallic sheen.
Scratch takes a moment to examine its new form, admiring the toughness of its newly armoured hide, and gives its systems a quick run-through to check everything is fully updated. Yes. Everything appears to be in working order.
Mulder also examines his opponent's new look, and doesn't appear very impressed with what he sees. He dismisses the machine's weird tech related tactics and reaches out to the Porygon with his mind, preparing to mentally attack its sensory functions. However, he’s a little perturbed to find that the machine’s mind seems to be better protected this time; it’s almost as if Scratch has formed a mental blockade. Not a completely fool-proof one though; Mulder still manages to get through, though his mental foot-hold on the Porygon’s mind isn’t quite as good. Scratch is sent spinning wildly nevertheless, its body glowing with the same purple as Mulder’s markings as the psychic deftly manipulates it.

Scratch gives off a loud beep of annoyance at the Elgyem’s relentless psychic assaults, but is pleased to find that its new steel typing is providing reasonable defence against it. It emits a series of clicks and whirrs as it prepares to go on the offence, and Scratch’s blank white eyes light up with a vivid yellow glow.
The clouds overhead begin to darken in response to the machine’s commands, and the beaming sun weakens noticeably. Mulder warily backs away as a shadow is cast over the boat, and he jumps as the roll of distant thunder is clearly heard. The sound gets louder and louder until the dreary clouds suddenly part, and a streak of electricity descends from the sky. Mulder gives a cry of alarm and frantically backs away to the edge of the boat, but the bolt falls short of its intended target. It blasts into the water in a blinding crackle of sparks, briefly illuminating the surrounding area in a bright yellow glow.
As Scratch gives off a disappointed series of beeps, Mulder breathes a sigh of relief and prepares to launch another psychic attack. His markings begin to glow again, and Scratch emits a loud, siren like sound of frustration as it feels like the now all too familiar sensation. It writhes about in pain again, until the vivid purple of Mulder's markings fades away and he releases his grip.

Scratch quickly rights itself, but it can feel its panic sensors starting to kick in; it has received quite a lot of damage this round and it must retaliate. Knowing it can’t afford another miss, Scratch concentrates as best as it can, and carefully takes aim as it calls down a vicious strike from the heavens.
The already blackened clouds begin to part again, and another bolt of electricity comes streaking down. Mulder isn't as lucky this time; the bolt hits its mark, engulfing him in a current of powerful sparks.
The Elgyem groans in pain, and slowly gets back up again, his body looking slightly blackened from the powerful attack. He's far from out however, and before Scratch can celebrate his success, it is sent spinning wildly from another attack on its mind.
When Mulder relents again, Scratch whirs wildly as it frantically checks the damage. Despite its new resistance, the Elgyem's barrage of attacks has amounted to considerable damage done to its systems. Scratch gives a loud and angry beep that causes the twitchy Mulder to jump in surprise, and the machine moves forward with grim determination.

Round three

Scratch turns its muzzle upwards, and a burning beam of solar energy begins to form in front of it as it draws energy from the sun. Mulder looks over anxiously as the orb grows in size, then quickly sets about disrupting Scratch's plans.
He raises his arms to the sky and his markings begin to glow a soft blue colour. However, as he prepares to preform the intricate steps of the rain dance, he is suddenly interrupted by a whack on the head with a rolled up newspaper courtesy of the ref. He blinks and scowls at the referee, who is still wielding the paper threateningly, his Houndoom leering in the background.
Scratch is too busy concentrating on building up its strenuous attack to notice the zany antics occurring, and it finally fires off the burning beam of energy at the disgruntled Elgyem. Mulder's attention is quickly drawn back to the battle as he's engulfed in burning pain, causing him to yell from the unpleasant surprise. When the intense light fades away, a charred looking Elgyem is left lying on the floor of the boat, his body still smoking from the powerful beam.

Mulder gives a weary groan and slowly rights himself, trying his best not to aggravate to scorch marks on his body. His mood isn't improved when he sees the blasted Porygon preparing another bundle of burning chaos, but all he can do is grimly prepare his own attack. Trying to ignore the lingering stinging and burning pain, Mulder holds up his arms, and his markings begin to glow a livid yellow as sparks crackle around his small form.
Mulder is first to fire off his attack, something he's having a little trouble getting used to, and the bolt of electricity spirals towards his foe. Scratch is so focused on his own efforts that it doesn't notice the crackling bolt heading for it until it actually hits it. The machine gives a loud beep of distress as its metallic form is engulfed in a current of powerful sparks, and the solar beam its been carefully building up begins to falter a little. Scratch shakily tries to pull itself back together, and it ignores the lingering pain from the bolt as it goes back to what it was doing. The weakening beam slowly builds up some strength again, and it gradually begins to shine with brighter intensity. Scratch gives off a sharp beep and shoves its muzzle forward, sending the solar beam streaming towards Mulder. He gives another agonized yell as he's engulfed in even more burning pain

Mulder winces and lowers himself onto the soaked deck for a moment to catch his breath. The blackened burn marks peppering his body are stinging painfully, but at least his opponent appears to be in rough shape too. Its expression is as unreadable as ever, but he's positive that Scratch must be feeling the hurt.
With a grim look on his face, Mulder straightens himself up, and his markings begin to flash with the same bright yellow glow. Scratch responds by slowly charging up yet another solar beam, and a loud whirring sound can be clearly heard from the machine as it strains its energy resources to their limits. Mulder fires off the bolt just as the orb of light starts to form, and Scratch writhes about madly as its engulfed in electricity again. When the current fades away, Scratch wearily goes back to charging up its attack, emitting a few feeble clicks of pain. It fires off yet another solar beam, charring Mulder further and aggravating his scorch marks. When the light fades away, the psychic looks to be in dire shape; his body is blackened all over and he can barely pick himself up. When he finally does manage to pull himself upright, he's teetering dangerously and struggling not to kneel over.

- Sorry for the wait, wasn't feeling very inspired. ALSO I WROTE OUT THIS WHOLE THING BEFORE I REMEMBERED WEATHER MOVES WERE BANNED ARGHHHH. So, I'm sorry if this sounds a bit half-assed. I'll fix it up a little later.
- Solar beam has lowered priority, so Scratch was able to take advantage of analytic this round. Combined with Mulder's special defense drop and up-grade, each one did 17% damage. Ow.

Round four

The badly scorched Mulder is more than happy to get a chance to ease the pain of wounds, and he closes his eyes as he begins to focus. The markings on his head begin to glow with a soft white light... however, he is once again interrupted with a smack on the head by that meddlesome referee. Mulder gives a furious yell and flails about madly, determined not to let the ref screw him over again. He needs this dammit! How would you like it if you got blasted in the face with horrible burning light?! Byrus's Houndoom quickly steps in again to try and harmlessly quell the psychic Pokémon's anger, though it proves to be quite the tricky task. Even the offer of a complete X-files box set does nothing to calm him down.
Once again, Scratch ignores the commotion and simply concentrates on its own orders. Another burning orb of solar energy slowly begins to form, and Scratch is determined to make this one count.
When a tired and enraged Mulder finally turns his attention back to his opponent, he is none too happy to find the machine charging up another horrible solar beam. There is nothing he can do however, and he helplessly covers his face and crouches down as Scratch finally releases the pent up energy.

The solar beam blasts powerfully into the weakened Elgyem, knocking him backwards as it engulfs him in even more burning pain. When the bright light slowly fizzles out, Mulder is left lying on the edge of the boat, charred and out for the count.

Blade hastily recalls the crispy looking Elgyem, while Scratch emits a series of cheerful sounding beeps. It tries to make the beeps follows a little tune, but it eventually gives up and just beeps happily while swiveling about.

When the prizes are handed out and the two battlers shake hands, everyone begins to arrange their mode of transportation. Although a trip to Madagascar is quite tempting.

Mawile gets $8, RespectTheBlade gets $3, and I get $5.

Scratch gets 2 experience points and Mulder gets one.
