Helios, Spatz, make the scene!

Re: Dapper Deathclaw vs. Ampharos

OK then, let's go with Zbrka and Sfera (who can be referred to as female to make it easier)

Zbrka:

Start by hitting Spatz with a Soak to make it easier for your partner to get into this battle, then fire off two Hydro Pumps at Helios. Nothing better than a little bit of damage to start this baby off. If he protects in any way on either of the last two actions switch with Calm Mind.

Soak @ Spatz ~ Hyrdo Pump @ Helios/Calm Mind x2

Sfera:

I want you to start off by Taunting Spatz. I really don't want a Thunder Wave heading anywhere anytime soon. Then, since neither of them can Taunt, Thunder Wave Helios, and then finally Thunderbolt Spatz. If Spatz protected himself in any way on the first action switch Thunderbolt with Rollout (at Helios)

Taunt @ Spatz ~ Thunder Wave @ Helios ~ Thunderbolt @ Spatz/Rollout @ Helios

Re: Dapper Deathclaw vs. Ampharos

Helios:

Open with a Light Screen, then use Flame Charge on Sfera twice.

Light Screen ~ Flame Charge x2 (Sfera)

Spatz:

No Rain For YOU.
So I guess just Protect first, then proceed to T-Bolt Zbrka twice.

Protect ~ Thunderbolt x2

Pre-Battle

The battlers and referee finally made their way to the Cave of Origin. It wasn’t an easy task, as several wild Pokémon attacked them during their travel and an old man was blocking the entrance, spitting curse words at them and weakly hitting them with his cane. But those misadventures were soon forgotten as they entered the lower floor of the cave.

The room was formed as a pit, with leveled eaves on the walls, spiraling down the edges to finally dive in a pool of molten lava. The battlers had plenty of space to battle, however they had to be careful not to trip, or else it was a direct downfall in the lava.

Dapper Deathclaw, though, didn't want to lose his precious time admiring the scenery, so he quickly threw two Poké Balls on one eave. They cracked open in a luminescent explosion, revealing his allies; a small larva-like Pokémon with a white mane, Larvesta, and the ever-popular electric mouse, Pichu. Ampharos retaliated sending out on the opposite side of the field a yellow duck Pokémon, who instantly grabed his head upon being sent out. Her teammate was, erm… well it was a spherical Pokémon with the exact design of a Poké Ball, except it had eyes. Upon its appearance, the Voltorb started rolling around, generating the electricity it would need for the battle.

Without further waiting, the referee waved his flag to signal the battle finally started.

Round I Start

Spatz engaged the battle by setting up the green energy shield everyone knows about. It started up as a simple energy veil, but suddenly flickered and solidified, forming a vast cocoon around the electric mouse. Spatz squeaked happily; he was finally protected against the horrible heat of the arena.
Sfera, meanwhile, started to yell random insults at him, in vain. No matter how hard it tried, how mean its words were, Spatz was completely unaware of them, comfortably sitting there behind his energy wall. The Voltorb had no choice but to give up, not without a grim look on its face… ball… thing.
Helios, observing the scene with amusement, attempted to set up a protective screen on his own. The air in front of him started to shine as energy gathered, slowly but surely forming a large wall before him and his ally. This one however, did not solidify, staying there, flickering, and finally disappearing, leaving golden particles all around. It had not vanished, though, and anybody who would have looked carefully would have seen that Helios’ image was slightly distorted when observed from certain angles. The Larvesta felt that the Light Screen was draining some of his energy, however he did not mind much: it would without a doubt be useful in the future.
Finally, Zbrka the Psyduck got to move. She began rotating her arms in a water-bender fashion, hoping to gather enough water to use her devastating attack. The air in the cave, however, did not contain any water. Any water molecule in the air had been heated up by the lava and had swirled up to the higher levels. Zbrka lowered her arms with a pitiful look on her face. Not only that, but her head was also hurting like hell; it was definitely a bad day.
Spatz, on the opposite side of the arena, let his green energy shield shatter, regaining contact with the rest of the world. The heat wave from the lava swept him and he frowned, annoyed.

Back on Team Ampharos' side, Sfera started to generate some electricity, gathering it into its spherical body. After a few seconds, she launched a weak jolt. The small electric bolt described an arc as it crossed the entire arena to finally land on Helios, who felt it pierce his skin and find a way to his nervous system. The Larvesta cried in despair, losing the control of his muscles for several seconds. His legs were shaking jerkily and he quickly lost his balance, diving head first on the rock. He finally recovered, but when he got up, it was visible that it was painfully more difficult for him to move around.
Seeing his teammate in that pitiful state infuriated Spatz. Weak, strategic moves were not for him. He was seeking revenge, however this time it would really be painful. His cheeks started to glow as electric currents flowed through his tiny body, and when he could take no more, released it in a beam of electricity. The attack flew towards Zbrka at blazing speed, striking her directly on the torso and sending her flying until she hit the wall behind. It took her several seconds to get back up, holding her head and grimacing in pain. She was getting used to her headaches, though, and in no time, she took a huge breath and spit an enormous torrent of water. The jet swirled to Helios, but the Light Screen appeared in front of him at that precise moment. The golden wall reflected a major part of the attack; sending myriads of water drops in the lava pit, where they almost instantly evaporated. Meanwhile, the part of the attack that the Light Screen had failed to block still smacked Helios on the wall, drenching his white fur and knocking him out for a few seconds.
When he finally got up, his horns began to glow a hellish orange and his mane burst out in fire. Seemingly unaware of his stiffened muscles, Helios ran to Sfera, his fiery fur blazing behind him. The Voltorb had no time to evade and was forcefully tackled by the bug engulfed in flames. The hit had been surprisingly painful, as if it had hit a major weak point. Sfera was sent rolling, and Zbrka stopped her partner's course with her full body, otherwise her teammate would have fallen directly into the lava. Helios, meanwhile, felt that his muscles were felling more limber, and it was easier to move than before. He was still handicapped by the paralysis, though.

Sfera, still recovering from the Larvesta's attack, decided to finally put some hurt. It closed its eyes and started rolling in the direction of Helios, picking up various shards along the way. It rolled all the way around the pit’s shallow edges, until it finally reached the opposite cliff. However, instead of smashing directly into the fiery bug, it tripped on a small ledge which made it bounce in the air, and when it finally crashed in Helios, the force of the impact was much more important than usual. The torch Pokémon stayed there, sprawled on the rock, unable to get back up… for the moment, at least. Making contact with a blazing opponent wasn’t harm free, though, and soon Sfera found out that Helios had left a searing mark on the lower part of its body.
Spatz was still unharmed by his opponents but couldn’t endure the sight of his wounded and bruised ally. With a rageful war cry, he launched another discharge of electricity at the poor Zbrka. The Psyduck, this time, could only turn around and cover her head with her tiny arms before the jolt struck. She had been able to stay on her two legs, but she was visibly hurt, frenetically massaging her temples in vain hope of diminishing the atrocious pain. The battle wasn’t over, though, and she had to fight until she won. With that idea in mind, she once again spitted a massive torrent of water in Helios’ direction. This time again, the Light Screen burst out of nowhere to block the hit. This time, however, instead of filtering the cataract, the protection seemed to concentrate it in a compact, watery arrow that pierced the Larvesta’s mane to reach his neck, and he squeaked in pain. Despite his golden shield, Zbrka’s attack had definitely struck a weak point. Weakened and drenched, Helios had to make desperate efforts to stay on his shaky legs. Despite his state, he gathered all his courage to set his body on fire again and ran to Sfera. Like a blazing bullet, he charged the Voltorb with all his possible might. The attack wasn’t his strongest, but it was definitely useful to slowly recover the usage of his nervous system, and Helios had the feeling he would soon be as agile and limber as before.

By the end of that quite demanding round, the four Pokémon looked at each other, panting and fiery-eyed. Slowly, the barbaric spirit of the cave dweller was crawling upon them.

Soak – 3% energy (Zbrka) [failed]

Hydro Pump – 18% damage (Helios), 9% energy (Zbrka)
Flame Charge – 6% damage (Sfera), 3% energy (Helios)

Notes:

- I'm pretty sure you noticed I played around the team summaries, so if you don't like them this way I don't mind changing them back to the standard.
- Taunt failed due to the Protect.
- Soak failed due to lack of water source.
- Helios’ first Flame Charge, Sfera’s Rollout and Zbrka’s last Hydro Pump were all critical hits (!!!).
- Helios’ current base speed is 45.
- Helios’ Flame Body barely burned Sfera (I rolled a 30), so I reduced the severity to light.
- Double Battles are much harder to keep track of, so if you see any mistakes, typos, etc, feel free to tell.
- They are also veeeery long to write, so I might not ref as often as single battles. However, I just started my summer holiday, so it should be within the DQ time.
- I DECLARE BY MY LORD AUTHORITY THAT RAGEFUL IS A WORD.

Arena Notes:

- Team Deathclaw’s platform is steaming from Zbrka’s Hydro Pumps, but besides that the arena is still as Groudonesque as ever.

Next Round:

- Dapper Deathclaw orders first.

Re: Dapper Deathclaw vs. Ampharos

Alrighty...

Helios, Morning Sun, Harden, then Flame Charge that 'torb.

Morning Sun ~ Harden ~ Flame Charge (Sfera)

Spatz, your buddy's looking quite tired so Lucky Chant to prevent freak Crits, then use Thunderbolt on Zbrka twice, unless protected or order to mirror coat, in which Nasty Plot instead.

Lucky Chant ~ Thuderbolt/Nasty Plot x2

Re: Dapper Deathclaw vs. Ampharos

OK then, I see a strategy forming.

Zbrka:

Start by Digging down. Hopefully this will help you avoid Thunderbolt on the second action. Then Dig up on the second action, striking Spatz. Finish off by Mud Bombing Spatz.

Dig (down) ~ Dig (up) @ Spatz ~ Mud Bomb @ Spatz

Sfera:

I doubt that Morning Sun will work properly with a lack of an actual sun in the arena, and Harden doesn't worry me, so keep on using Rollout for the first two actions. Finally, stop and Torment Spatz, preventing him from using Thunderbolt on the last action. However, if Spatz used Nasty Plot on the second action, Rollout once more.

Rollout x2 @ Helios ~ Torment @ Spatz/Rollout @ Helios

Round II Start

Sfera, once more, opened the round. Despite its spherical and seemingly clumsy body shape, the high voltage its organs (organs?) contained propelled it into battle, head first. It began rolling, and, once again, picked up additional rocks from the surface of the cliff. With an echoing rumble, it crashed down on Helios. However, the Larvesta had been expecting this - upon the impact, he released a ring of fire from its horns. Sfera, startled, felt its previous wound worsen drastically, melting its metallic cover, and the searing pain made it wince. In the meantime, Spatz gave a quick look at his ally. Helios was getting worse and worse – probably from the numerous lucky hits that were aimed at him. He decided he had enough of this circus, and began to sing a low chant in a monotonous voice. The melody carried on for several seconds, and when the Pichu stopped singing it hung up in the air, echoing on the vault of the cave. Helios looked at him and gave him a thankful smile.

Zbrka, however, didn't have the time for emotive scenes and without a word began to search for a softer spot on the rocky ground. She found it after a few seconds only, and spitted some water to dampen it. Soon she was underground, slowly but surely digging her way to Spatz. Meanwhile, Helios, aware of how injured he was, desperately needed some recovery. Using the natural energy emanating from the molten lava under him, he made an attempt at healing himself. He felt the comforting heat gather… but then it stopped. He knew he could invigorate himself – he had done it several times before – but some strange, unnatural force was preventing him from doing so. After a few unsuccessful tries, he gave up, dispirited.

And as if things weren’t bad enough already, Sfera once more hit him straight in the face. The built up momentum combined with a thick layer of rock knocked down the Larvesta before it could even venture at protecting himself, and he was thrown away by the sheer force of the impact, once more. Sfera then returned to its platform and finally stopped rolling. The rocky coating started to crack and wore off, leaving the Voltorb with an awkward feeling of nudity. Spatz, all the while, was looking for its opponent. Zbrka had completely vanished from his eyesight; the sole sign of her presence was the large hole she had left behind. Nevertheless, Dapper Deathclaw insisted. Resolute, Spatz approached the breach and aimlessly shot a high-voltage blast of energy. It zigzagged for a second, exploding in a myriad of sparkles, but lamentably failed to hit its target. Before he could even begin to feel sorry for himself, the ground erupted under Spatz. Several chunks of rocks battered and sliced his body, and he was sent flying by the force of the impact. Zbrka eventually came out, panting. Her body was covered in dirt and upon striking Spatz, she had received a jolt of electricity, and her body was shaking, the paralysis having dug its way to her nervous system. Nevertheless, she was grinning like crazy – she had finally hit her opponent. Helios, getting quite worried about the mad platypus, started to gather a weird yellow fluid from his mandibles (or whatever secretes fluids in a bug mouth), and spilled it all over his body. The liquid turned transparent and filled the gaps in his shell before solidifying, visibly thickening his exoskeleton.

At last, the Pichu got up. He was still startled by the very sudden nature of Zbrka’s assault, and was still trying to figure what had exactly happened. He looked up at its foes, only to be met by Sfera’s mocking expression. "Hey, little rat. Aren’t you tired of using the same move all the time? Are you so weak and badly educated you only use the same attack over and over again? HA! You’re pitiful!" The Voltorb’s mental manipulation troubled the Pichu, and for a moment, he stayed still. Small tears began to form on the corner of his wide eyes, but he quickly recovered and stared angrily at Sfera. Of course he couldn’t Thunderbolt again; it would be to agree with the Voltorb. But if he did otherwise, it would be to disobey his trainer… The Pichu was torn apart between the two, and Sfera continued to exert a dark mental pressure on him - he couldn't take it anymore. Filled with uncontrollable rage, Spatz finally hurled himself at his foe, tackling it recklessly. The Voltorb, surprised, let out an instinctive wave of static electricity, which struck the irate mouse, stiffening his whole body. Spatz mourned silently, trying not to show it to his adversaries.

Helios, however, wasn’t tired at all of using the same attack all the time. Once again, he cloaked himself in fire and ran to Sfera. Just before hitting, though, he felt the need to act all witty and feinted. Trying to evade, the Voltorb quickly rolled to the side, only to be struck even more powerfully by the clever Larvesta. Helios grinned widely, feeling somewhat more agile; however the burning pain from his battered muscles rapidly reminded him of the harsh reality. In the meantime, Zbrka had been fashioning a large sphere of compact ground, dampened the same way as before, and using all her might, threw it at the unsuspecting Spatz. Once again the Light Screen sprouted out in mid-air to slow down the mud bomb, but failed to block it completely. It exploded just in front of the Pichu, spilling mud filled with ground-type energy all over the electric mouse.

As the round came to an end, the battlers heard a very deep and guttural roar from the ground beneath them.

Arena Notes:

Re: Dapper Deathclaw vs. Ampharos

Well, first off, I did a big renaming spree today. Zbrka is now Anatina, and Sfera is now Monsutabora (you can just call her Mon if that's too much of mouthful)

Anatina:

Alrighty Anatina, let's start off with a Facade on Spatz. Next up, Waterfall Helios twice. We might be able to finish off that Larvesta here. If Spatz protects in any way on the first action, use the Facade on Helios instead. If they both Protect, Calm Mind. If Helios protects in any way on the last two actions, switch with Calm Mind.

Facade @ Spatz/Facade @ Helios ~ Waterfall @ Helios/Calm Mind x2

Monsutabora:

Well, you get the simple commands this time around. Nail Helios with a Screech, then aim one Spatz's way. Finish off with a Facade against Spatz.

Screech @ Helios ~ Screech @ Spatz ~ Facade @ Spatz

Re: Dapper Deathclaw vs. Ampharos

Spatz:
Charge, Encore the Sreech, then Volt Tackle the duck, if Encore or Charge are stopped from paralysis use Facade on the duck afterwards.

Charge ~ Encore(Mon)/Facade(Anatina)~ Volt Tackle(Anatina)/Facade(Anatina)

Helios:

Over Heat at Mon, then Flare Blitz Mon, finish with an Endure.

OVerheat(Mon) ~ Flare Blitz(Mon) ~ Endure

Round III Start

The two teams gazed at each other, an expression of merciless anger deforming their traits. Without a doubt, the blazing arena had a bizarre effect on them, as if some increasingly sinful rage rushed through their veins. They were staying still, however, calmly waiting for their trainer to shout the round’s commands. Soon, the referee waved his flag and the four of them rushed, once again, into the battle.

Monsutabora the Voltorb again made its move first, fueled by a multitude of electron currents. It stood still for a moment, and then some unknown parts from deep within its body began to grind together, producing an infernal shrieking sound. The screech was neatly amplified by its own energy, and every living organism within the cave hid their ears in panic, afraid their eardrums would chap under the pressure of the sound wave. Most of them succeeded at diminishing the spine-chilling effects of the attack, but Helios couldn’t. Even though his front legs were desperately trying to cover his auditory organs, the attack was directly aimed at him, and the screech pierced the laughable attempt at evading and battered his tympanums like a thousand tiny pickaxes. The attack left him on the ground, miserably rolled up like a newborn larva.

In an instant, though, he got up. He was still shivering, but a newfound fury was burning in his eyes. Suddenly, his mane flared up. It wasn’t a surprising sight, as he had done it several times before, but this time… the fire was different. It was more intense, paler, and alarmingly increasing in size and temperature. Even Spatz had to back up from a few feet, as his yellow fur had started to turn black. Monsutabora was worriedly looking at its opponent, as Helios was quite clearly staring at it, red-eyed. Before it could make a move to escape, Helios blew a humongous fireball. The blazing projectile crossed the battlefield at an astonishing pace, leaving a dark track behind, before finally making contact with Monsutabora. The Voltorb was bathed in a monstrous yellow flame that stretched to the vault, and a second later the noise of the deflagration was heard. It was the sound of a tornado hitting a brick wall, and it sent crackling pieces of heated rock all over the platform. After the fire died off, several seconds later, Helios collapsed. He was exhausted. The vanishing smoke revealed a dark and vaguely spherical form among the burnt up fragments. Monsutabora finally opened its eyes, and stared in astonishment at the disaster around it. It itself wasn’t in the greatest shape, with searing wounds all over its red and white body.

Not oblivious to his teammate’s condition, Spatz jumped in front of Helios, allowing him to rest for a while. He began charging himself with electricity, menacingly raising the fur on his back. Anatina, however, was oblivious to Spatz’s intimidation, and frolicked to the Pichu, feinting cleverly along the way, before mercilessly punching the electric mouse on the side, making him squeak in pain. Spatz didn’t have much time to retaliate, though, as once again the shrieking sound was heard. Anatina quickly ran away from the Pichu, hands stuck on her head, before the unbearable screech reached its target. Spatz collapsed in pain as the shrieking noise made a way to his auditory nerves, and several seconds after Monsutabora had stopped, he was still hearing a faint buzz, and he was shaking.

Helios could take no more of his opponent’s racket. His mane flared up again. The heat wasn’t as impressive as before, though – the torch Pokémon was clearly getting weaker, worn off by his previous attack. This time, however, indirect attacks weren’t in the plan. He jumped forward, and then disappeared – only to reappear just in front of the startled Voltorb. Monsutabora, before even realizing what had happened, was tackled by the charging Larvesta. The impact made an echoing cracking sound, and the electric Pokémon was thrown away like a mere soccer ball. Anatina one more time caught her teammate just before it fell into the raging pit of magma.

The first thing Monsutabora heard when it came back to its senses was the clapping of Spatz’s little paws. He was happily applauding it… but for what, exactly? The Voltorb’s eyes brightened. Her brilliant screeching performance, of course! It was true that both of her attacks were flawlessly executed, and had had pretty impressive results. Monsutabora’s white part turned red. Well, if it was what the audience wanted…

Meanwhile, Anatina was focusing on the battle. No mind-tricking shenanigans for her! She was concentrated at doing her job, and that is what her trainer would be proud of! She shrouded herself with a thick curtain of water, ran to Helios as fast as her little flippers allowed her to, and delivered a powerful uppercut. The already miserably weak Larvesta was thrown upwards before heavily crashing on the solid rock. He didn’t make a move to get up.

…if it was what the audience wanted, thought Monsutabora, well they would be served! For another time, metallic organs from an unknown part of its body were rubbed against each other; and once more Spatz fell off in agony, desperately trying to protect himself from the noise. In the meantime, Helios, still lying on the floor, had raised a blue aura around him. His entire body was motionless; he was simply waiting resignedly for the hits that were to come. He didn’t have to wait for long, as Anatina was already running to him, enveloped by a thick watery overcoat. She forcefully crashed into him with all her might. The blue aura shone and cushioned the hit, but still, Helios had to step back from a few feet – the impact had been hard to handle with his weakened armor.

Spatz, however, couldn’t let his beloved teammate at Anatina’s mercy. He just couldn’t. Without even letting the Psyduck react, he shrouded himself with his own element, and soon his body was entirely covered by cracking sparkles. He rushed forward and delivered a heavy head charge, transferring all his electric power into his target at the same time. Anatina was sent flying before crashing into a wall, nearly unconscious.

Spatz looked at her, pitiless. He raised his head and let out a seemingly otherworldly roar that reverberated through the Cave of Origins for several seconds.

Re: Dapper Deathclaw vs. Ampharos

Jegus! This is bad Helios, your in shit shape man, and no direct healing means your out this round, garun-fucking-teed...

So Attack with a Leech Life/Flare Blitz combo, but only if that duck has no water flying your way. Else protect the first, and use flare blitz the second. All attacks are directed on the Voltorb. Final action, if you can, endure.

Leech Life + Flare Blitz/ Protect ~ Flare Blitz ~ Endure

Spatz, your likely to find yourself a new ally at your side soon, so T-Bolt the duck like crazy, so long as no protection is used, else, nasty plot.

T-Bolt/Nasty Plot ~ T-Bolt/Nasty Plot ~ T-Bolt/Nasty Plot

Re: Dapper Deathclaw vs. Ampharos

Well, no, Spatz won't be getting a new ally, as this is only a 2-on-2.

Anatina:

Well Anatina, Spatz will have to wait to see if you protect, giving you increased priority on all three actions :D Start by Digging down again. Use a Hone Claws on the second action while underground, and then Dig up on the third action, hitting Spatz. If you're fully paralyzed on the first action, Dig down on the 1st, Dig up on the 2nd. If by some outburst of horrible luck you're fully paralyzed on the first and second actions, Mud Slap on the last (at Spatz).

Dig (Down) ~ Hone Claws/Dig (Down) ~ Dig (up) @ Spatz/Mud Slap @ Spatz

Monsutabora:

Well, aim your Screech at Spatz if you can on the first action. Next up Thunder Helios, which should hopefully knock out the poor little bug. Finally, use a Hidden Power on Spatz, seeing what we get. If Thunder missed on the second action, use it on the third.

The version of this cave is the one seen in Pokémon Ruby, post-capture/defeat of Groudon. The participants battle in the deepest cavern. There are five rocky tiers that the Pokémon may battle on, with crystals that radiate extreme heat dotting the arena. If any non-fire-type Pokémon touches these crystals, they will lose 3% health, and have a 5% chance of being burned. The centre of the bottom tier is a pool of lava. Any Pokémon that is not fire-type that falls into the pool will be instantly burned and will lose 5% health, but they will be teleported on to the third tier before serious injury occurs. Round IV Start

Monsutabora gave a quick look at Spatz. The electric mouse was still happily clapping his tiny hands, further encouraging the Voltorb. The spherical Pokémon frowned: why would the Pichu applause it, when its last attacks seemed to make him suffer so much? Was Spatz a sadomasochist Pichu of some kind? Monsutabora continued to gaze at its foe in suspicion. Spatz, seeing his opponent motionless, suddenly grew afraid his little acting had been uncovered – which wouldn’t be so bad, as he couldn’t take any more of those unbearable metallic cries. He soon realized, with much despair, that his strategy kept on working. Once more, Monsutabora produced the infernal and now infamous shrieking sound, further disrupting Spatz’s nervous system and making him wince in pain.

Helios, meanwhile, concentrated on his commands. It wasn’t a light task, as he never had combined those two moves before – but nothing that couldn’t be withstood with focus, strength, and a bit of improvisation on his part. When he finally decided to attack, however, he blocked still. His muscles weren’t responding at all, and he could do no more than just stay there, hissing angrily at his foes. His ally, meanwhile, was far from a sitting duck. He started generating another amount of electric power, and then swiftly launched it at Anatina. The thunderbolt struck her like an arrow, and she was forced to the ground. When she tried to get up, her muscles stiffened and she realized that she had the same problems that afflicted her fiery adversary: she couldn’t move even a finger.

Monsutabora gave another quick look at Spatz. The Pichu was definitely in a pitiful state – even though his body wasn’t as wounded and bruised as his teammate’s, small blood streams were flowing from his wide ears, and he was shivering like crazy. The Voltorb decided he had had enough of this, and turned his attention to the Larvesta. Helios was about to fall over. One last hit would take him down, for sure. Monsutabora closed its eyes, concentrating. It called upon the powers of Zapdos, Legendary thunder phoenix, and summoned an immense thunder spear. The Voltorb then quickly opened its eyes, sadistically waiting for the impact. Helios, realizing what would happen, braced himself with his front legs. The sky above them rumbled, and released a gigantic lightning – which crashed just on top of the Cave of Origins. Rocks exploded and flew all over the place, however none of the battlers noticed it – all they heard was a vague echo of the impact. Monsutabora’s eyes widened – not only the fiery larva was still standing, but its attack had been utterly useless! The Voltorb cried in anger, but Helios frowned. His end was only retarded.

…But he could definitely dish some damage before going down. He focused, gathering energy, and suddenly erupted in fire. His gaze was fierier than ever before, and when he rushed to Monsutabora, the Voltorb could do nothing but to admire the picture of the flaring dragon running to it. When Helios finally reached the Voltorb, he jumped and dived to it like a falcon, and the impact engulfed both of them in a sea of flames. Soon, Monsutabora sprawled out of the flaring site, still coated in fire, and rolled for several meters before finally extinguishing.

Anatina ran to her ally, deeply worried.

Before she could even attempt at analyzing the Voltorb’s state, she was struck on the back by a second lightning bolt. She was thrown forward to the wall and heavily crashed on it. When she looked back, Spatz was standing there, panting, with a devilish smile. She frowned; that Pichu was far too confident for her taste. She thought for a moment, and then all of a sudden started to run frenetically to Spatz. The startled Pichu cringed – he had never thought Anatina could demonstrate such anger! When the Psyduck finally reached her target, she feinted. In desperate hope of avoiding the hit, Spatz threw himself on the side and fell off. When he got up, after a second, he caught the sight of Anatina’s flippers disappearing in the hole she had made before.

Meanwhile, Helios realized he was still alive, and he looked around in amazement. After a few moments of naïve euphoria, he also realized he wanted it to stay this way. For the second time, he braced himself in a coat of blue energy, closing his eyes shut in deep concentration.

Monsutabora looked at its trainer in incomprehension. If Thunder didn’t work, use it again? What was this nonsense? If it didn’t work the first time, why should it bother using it again? But orders are orders, and once again Monsutabora summoned the powers of the Lightning Legends, and once more only a faint rumble from far above was heard. The Voltorb frowned angrily. That mistake was better not to cost her the match. Meanwhile, Spatz looked at his trainer, pretty much in the same situation. Using Thunderbolt on underground people was complete madness, but he also had to follow the orders, and his lightning bolt was as useless as Monsutabora’s thunder. For a moment, they forgot their rivalry and looked at each other in empathy.

That short moment of peace was violently interrupted when Anatina finally emerged from the ground, erupting just beneath Spatz. The Pichu’s weakened body was thrown upwards like a puppet by the uppercut, and chunks of the soil further damaged it. The blow was so powerful; the Pichu didn’t get up from it for several minutes, as other scraps from the ground kept on crashing on him.

When he finally got up, his legs were shaking a he was unable to lift his left arm. He looked up to Anatina and the battlers shared the most terrifying gaze – they really wanted to tear each other into pieces.

...S**t. I think that might have blown the battle right there. Well, now that I think about it, I've been in worse situations before. And I got out of that because of a 1 in a something over 200 chance becoming reality.

Monsutabora:

Thunderbolt
Helios unless it is down. If it uses Protect, Endure, or any other move that prevents you from hitting him, hit Spatz with a Facade. Once Helios is down, Facade the Pichu until the end. No matter what happens, you've done good.

Thunderbolt @ Helios/Facade @ Spatz x3

Anatina:

Well Ana, you don't have much of a chance, do you? Well, we can try to make something of this. Dig down to start off. There's a high probability that you won't be conscious at this point, but try anyway. When you're underground try an Amnesia, and then resurface on the final action, hitting Spatz. Fully paralyzed on the first action, just dig down and then up just like before. Paralyzed on first two actions and still miraculously thinking and breathing, just fire off a Hydro Pump for fun.

Dig (down) ~ Amnesia/Dig (down) ~ Dig (up) @ Spatz/Hydro Pump @ Spatz

Ah well, fun while it lasted

Round V Start

The four battlers stared at each other mercilessly. They knew quite well that this fifth round had to be the last, and they were, although completely exhausted, ready to give all they had left to take their rivals down.

Spatz looked at his partner for a final attack, and the Larvesta burst in flames again, ready to charge Monsutabora as soon as Spatz would have created an opening. The Pichu lunged forward to the Voltorb, which was already charging electricity in its round body. He jumped and feinted multiple times to catch Monsutabora’s attention, before approaching it at high speed. Helios had already begun his course to the spherical Pokémon, a blazing track flaring behind him, like the tail of a dragon.

Monsutabora rolled right to avoid the imminent impact with Spatz, but the Pichu had predicted it and quickly changed direction and dived towards his target. The Voltorb looked at him in astonishment – the hit was to come for sure. But as Spatz crossed the last meter separating him from his target, his body suddenly stiffened.

He squeaked in surprise and dived in the mud, unable to control his own momentum. He rolled for a few feet before stopping just in front of an amazed Voltorb, trying to get up as quickly as his paralyzed muscles could afford him to. Meanwhile, Helios kept on running, flaring. Monsutabora rapidly forgot Spatz to turn its attention to the Larvesta, which was rushing to it at an alarming pace. Without hesitation, the Voltorb released its stored up energy into a luminous electric arc, which rushed like a spear. He was propelled backwards by the impact, his once immaculate mane now brown and roasted. He crashed on the ground with the grace of a used refrigerator, and stayed there, motionless. The thunderbolt had knocked him out.

At this point, Spatz knew he was going down, too – especially after seeing his yellow nemesis dig down once more. But orders were orders, and he waited for the platypus to come back up. Monsutabora, however, had other plans for him. The Voltorb rolled to the unsuspecting Pichu, acting as if it was wounded severely. At first, Spatz raised his arms to somewhat protect himself, but his enemy’s searing burn and strained frown made him lower his guard. Monsutabora caught its chance and propelled itself to the Pichu, tackling him violently at the speed of a magnet train. The blow sent him flying, and before he even had the time to touch the ground, Anatina came back from her hole, jumping in an eruption of rocks. She struck Spatz with a direct uppercut in the belly. She achieved the work by smacking him down on the hard rock with a terrible punch, and Spatz was thrown down like a mere puppet.

Completely astonished and a bit confused, Lirris recalled his fainted Pokémon and shook hands with Ampharos, before silently grabbing his prize and walking away to the long path leading out. His opponent called back his own Pokémon with a proud smile and left the referee alone.

Lord of the Fireflies looked for the last time down to the pit of molten lava, and for a second a faint blue pattern illuminated it. No one ever left a battle arena as quickly as he did that time.
