On the rocky cliffs of the Asber coast, underneath a ridiculous overhang of nondescript stone, a bunch of bugs have decided to join together and make a GIANT COCOON that hangs and swings dangerously low over the crashing gray waves below. The huge, white-silk orb is oblong in shape, with huge, wiggly support beams sticking out of the top. Bugs, from anorith to yanma and joltik to scolipede, crawl across the surface, bringing food and water and other necessities. It's a rather nice community, honestly, and like all good communities it must inevitably be the site of an ASB pokémon battle.

The cocoon's inner parts, about the size of a few three-story buildings laid on their sides, on top of one another, are divided in such a way that the very bottom, where the battle takes place, is about as big as a mansion. The floor is interwoven silk, very soft and damp, and you can see the ocean below through gaps as big as a guy's head. The ocean, by the way, is about thirty feet away at the bottom of the floor's curve, and can easily fuel water-based attacks. Kakuna, cascoon, and other hibernating bugs coat the walls like sleeping ornaments, and spires of supporting silk spring from the ground to the ceiling, like trees. Small rocklike balls of the stuff also cover the ground, and can be used as projectiles if needed. Also, this section of the GIGANTIC COCOON is big enough for weather moves to work easily, and if Sunny Day is used it makes a bunch of League Volbeat use Tail Glow and Flash all at once on the ceiling, to be inclusive.

Once every round, during a random action, a swarm of any given unevolved bugs (caterpie, joltik, etc.), led by their fully-evolved form (a butterfree, a galvantula, etc.) will attack, dealing 4% Bug-type damage to the battlers but giving each on a random berry in addition to its other item. These berries stack, but will be taken by Blastoise for his shop at the end of battle. They will also leave one of their number behind on each trainer and the referee, as adorable spies. No two pokémon will swarm twice unless there are no more new ones to be chosen, and due to strange pokémon cruelty laws no one can technically remove one of the little buggers from their person by force. (Why would you want to, though?)

Additional Rules: The first pokémon sent out by both trainers must be a Bug-type. All trainers must wear a Bug Catcher uniform, the referee as well. The cocoon must be, when referred to by its full name, be called the GIGANTIC COCOON, not the gigantic cocoon or Gigantic Cocoon or any of that crap. It's disrespectful, you see.

-----

Led by Blastoise Fortooate, a trio somehow plew into the GIGANTIC COCOON. This gargantuan bundle of silk hung over the ocean, with support beams keeping it in place and providing a means of nurturing those who grow within it.

It was quite troublesome to adjust the footing to stand in this unusual place -- the soft, damp ground sometimes proved considerably sticky, not to mention the disaster each time somebody stepped into one of the gaps. Thankfully, none were big enough for a human being to fall through completely, but it was troublesome to get whomever blundered out.

After all this sacrifice, they managed to get in postion, with Blastoise and Le Sabre facing each other and Metallica Fanboy standing bewteen them. The latter recited the rules for this battle, then gave the signal for sendouts.

When Blastoise Fortooate combed through his Pokéballs, however, he noticed that the one he'd been intending to use was missing. With permission, he quickly fetched it from his PC, and henceforth, released his pick: a meter-tall fluff of stiff purple hairs, staring all over the arena with her countless eyes, bundled up in two macro-units.

In response, Le Sabre unleashed an extremely teeny-tiny cluster of yellow fur, which bounced and shifted incessantly, and seemed completely undanted by the unusual terrain, as though he was used to it.

With another signal, the battle began.

Without a moment of hesitation, Nickolaus darted towards his opponent, delivering a cross-cut with his front legs straight into his foe's head. However, as she backed off from the hit, he smelled something funny in the air... And then he had a violent allergic reaction. It was so severe, he could hardly even control his muscles when it kicked in.

Happy to see the Stun Spore make its victim, Leper Dot readied the next battery. She concentrated massive amounts of toxic spores in her already poisonous body, then started shuffling her hairs, scattering the powder all over. Her opponent helplessly inhaled those as well, and they quickly started their raid on his systems.

The Joltik fought back in spite of his ever-worsening condition, though. Raising his backside for (misreably failed) intimidation, he shot a bright ray of Bug-type energy, overloading his enemy's keen senses as it struck.

Meanwhile, something silently crept behind the battle...

Only was anybody the wiser about it when the Ariados hanging by a single string let out a bellowing screech. A swarm of Spinarak immediately dropped from the ceiling, each hanging onto their own web. Three of them latched onto the trainers and referees; the remainder jumped the battlers, hysterically assaulting them with smacks from the many legs, scratches from the mandibles, jabs from the horns and, worst of all, ugly stares from the abdomen.

After the siege, however, two of the arachnid Pokémon lowered a berry for each one of the battlers. One was roundish, with yellow, red-speckled skin; other was small and sturdy, with two different-colored lobes.

The spider squad then moved back up, as silently as they had arrived, leaving only the ones who were attached to the humans.

Thoroughly miffed by this turn of events, Leper Dot could not focus on her next command, and instead, tripped over the stupid flooring and nearly fell through one of the holes, ending up stuck facefirst into it. In this state, she was a sitting duck for Nickolaus' next attack: a voltaic discharge, straight from his electric pouch. He'd been saving up just for that.

- Is this your first battle in this ASB, Le Sabre? Because referees get extra cash for reffing a trainer's first battle now.
- Figured the powder combo wouldn't happen, for the same reasons why the rules specifically state Hyper Beam + Ice Beam wouldn't work. I'm not entirely sure about this, though.
- Signal Beam on the second action caused confusion.
- While reading through Ariados' Pokédex entries, I realized it's fucking evil.

You've got nothing to worry about, I lose almost all of the time anyway. :O

Use Zen Headbutt, and focus on clearing your, err, head-body-thing; the attacking part should be secondary to actually clearing up your mind. Follow with a quick Sleep Powder. If he's asleep, pick him up and then use a close-range Venoshock. Don't drop him. If he's not asleep, then use it from a distance. You should be faster than him for now, but if you get paralyzed or are otherwise moving second, double up on the Venoshocks.

-----

The sleeveless shirts of the Bug Catcher uniforms made the crawlies extra annoying. However, apparently, swatting them off would break a Pokémon cruelty law. Poké-PETA has been on the move again, apparently.

When Leper Dot finally pushed hard enough to unscrew herself from the hole on the ground, she had pushed much too hard. Still not in a top condition, she tripped backwards and landed into another hole, this time facing up.

Once more, Nickolaus dropped the electric bomb when that chance was given. This time, however, instead of a linear, focused bolt, he just bristled hairs and blasted electricity everywhere. The multiple focuses of voltage wound up messing with several nerve connections in the Venonat's system, bringing him to the muscle cramp party.

And speaking of muscle cramp party, that idea is probably what best described the events that followed that, as both battlers suffered severe contractions and could hardly move a single muscle for a few minutes.

Passed the swelling horror, the gnat Pokémon finally regained a proper footing, only to be stuck on it by a string of sticky web. Her eyes trailed the line until its end, which was the opponent's mouth, eagerly unloading more voltage.

Having taken far too many unanswered hits, Leper Dot finally managed to counterstrike while her foe didn't expect it. She scattered another cloud of tiny, but solid objects; instead of allergenic powder, however, it was a venomous substance that reacted with the poison already circulating in the tick Pokémon, causing painful chemical burns where it did.

Just as the end of round was about to be declared, however, a swarm of Wurmple surrounded the battle, with much less sublety than the Spinarak before them. The Beautifly and Dustox that seemed to be coordenating the raid also made sure to drop their own berries after the struggle -- one was mostly yellow, with a part that stood someplace between green and blue, with an odd, protruding shape; other was squishy, blue and of strange form.

Adding to the annoyance of at least one of the humans, yet another battery of bugs became attached to the trainers and referee.

-----

The suction pads on the Wurmple's feet tickled at the skins of the humans. The Spinarak relayed messages by carefully moving abdomen muscles so that the markings would shift accordingly. All the while, commands were issued.

The cramp attacks disagreed with such, however. No commands would be carried out on their count. The battlers could hardly crawl towards each other as each one of their muscles swelled violently, refusing proper movement.

It was only after a few minutes of wait that Nickolaus managed to break the stupor, leaping over the top of his foe's head and once more slashed away at her with his pointy forelegs. The impact knocked Leper Dot off-balance, lodging her backwards into yet another hole. The Joltik only just managed to jump off the sinking boat before the big stumble.

After this spring of movement, however, the tick Pokémon's problems returned. At the worst possible time to be stunned.

Incessant buzzing filled the air as two Beedrills flapped their wings faster than the eye can see. At their direction, Kakunas dropped all over the battlers, mysteriouly givving off heat. They were only a distraction as zounds of Weedle silently crawled near, only noticed when it was too late. They refrained from using their powerful stingers, fortunately, and instead relied on bodily charges. It was apparent that the bugs were holding back -- strange behavior, specially for this specific kind, which is usually fiercely territorial. Predictably, the trainers and referee each got another crawlie to the collection.

After the struggle, the bee Pokémon collected the fallen cocoons, one of them suddenly glowing white amidst the travel, shell slit in half. The newly evolved insect was encharged with a task the other charging legions performed: delivering berries into the battle. That round's dropoff consisted of two round, blue fruits, one of them brighter of tone and cool to the touch.

When the invasion ended, the Venonat took advantage of the chaos to proceed with her commands. First, she started to trance, using psychic power to try to clear her head. Then, multiple eyes closed, she slammed into her opponent, delivering a jolt of energy. While she was still quite disoriented, the meditation helped to diminish the problem.

The Weedle noses missed nothing on the surfaces of the humans as the next commands were issued.

Nickolaus' fierce cramps were not yet over. At the beggining of the round, he was a sitting duck, letting Leper Dot easily commence a mental raid on him. However, with no move-related brain areas recently stimulated, there was no attack to block off.

Just when she pulled back, however, the Joltik sprung back to movement, hurling a ball of electricity at her with the impulse of a brief sprint. Seeing this quickly enough, though, the Venonat managed to first gulp one of the berries she had been holding onto, gaining from it a brief moment of electric repellence. Nearly half of the pulse was negated as such.

The gnat Pokémon whipped out another berry shortly thereafter, quickly consuming it with delightful bites. His senses were overloaded with pleasant feelings with each munch at the multi-nutritious fruit... Of course, considering that they weren't going very sharp at that time, it ultimately led the stiff-haired bug into yet another facefirst landing into a hole.

In this situation, the tick Pokémon got to score a free hit, repeating the attack from earlier. With both Pokémon quite slowed, the logistics of the attack hardly mattered; all that stung was the voltage, and that was still going up against the effects of the Wacan Berry.

Having been very focused on the fight, neither battler noticed until it was too late as hordes of tuny caterpillars clad in leaves struck, biting and squirming away. When they were gone, all that was left was a small vegetable pouch, containing two berries.

Nickolaus quickly lunged for the tastiest-looking one, not realizing it was the infamously bitter Rawst Berry (this is what he gets for being based on a kind that usually feeds through parasitism). Leper Dot picked up the other after unscrewing himself from the gap on the ground, studying its enticing blue tones and finding that it seemed familiar... But she couldn't quite place what exactly it looked similar to. It appeared to have traits from several other fruits.
