• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

    Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

    Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

I've been meaning to get this idea out of my head and onto paper the forum. Also, we're a bit overdue for a new zone. Boring forewords aside, here is the stuff you probably want to look at first.
==================================================
"You've arrived at Kiloude Station, please enjoy your stay. Thank you for riding Lumiose-Kiloude TMV." A prerecorded voice announces. You hop off the TMV, ready to face the Battle Maison Chatelaines. You heard that those 4 sisters, and the Battle Maison in general, is THE place to go for competitive battling. You fancy yourself a great competitive battler, so you head up towards the Maison when something catches your eye. It appears to be a traditional adobe hut, but with a large Safari Ball over the door. You figure that its a safari zone, and remembering your friend sing the praises of the Safari Zone in Hoenn, you decide to check it out. Inside, its mostly empty, save for a few random chairs and tables, a PC, and a desk with a receptionist. "Welcome to the Friend Safari 2.0!" she chirps. "We've upgraded recently, so theres new items, more eye-appealing areas, and best of all, more Pokemon!! You're welcome to try it for yourself if you want! You get 10 safari balls initially, but you can purchase more for $2 per ball. All the pokemon you catch will be charged to your account, with common and uncommon pokemon costing $1, rare pokemon costing $2, and ultra-rare costing $3. Shiny pokemon are $5, regardless of rarities. There are 18 zones in our safari for the 18 pokemon types. You can switch from zone to zone when you please. And finally, we have the shiny goggles, which increase your chance of finding the rare and fabulous shiny pokemon! What do you think?" the now out-of-breath receptions says. A bit overwhelmed by the receptionist, you start to think, and think, until finally, you reach a decision.
==================================================
Notes:
  • If enough people like/use this zone, I'm thinking about implementing something that would somehow use your actual TCoD friends and use them in the zone. It isn't called Friend Safari for nothing.
  • The shiny goggles work like this: your chance of finding a shiny pokemon is normally 1/500. Its admittedly pretty steep, but heres the fun part: On the shiny goggles there is a knob with the settings DEFAULT(1) and the numbers 2-5. Say you dial it to 2. You've now taken the chance of finding a shiny from your next turn and added it to this turn once used! So basically you could increase you shiny chance from 1/500 to up to 1/100! The downsides are you can only use it twice (more than that would be OP), and on your next turn (or however many you set it to) you have a 0% chance of finding a shiny. You have to wait until your first period of having a 0% shiny chance to end before using the goggles again.
  • I will post sporadically; I may post three times one day and none the next. I will always post at least twenty-four hours after you do though, so don't worry if I don't post at all.
  • This is my first zone, so constructive criticism/suggestions is greatly appreciated.

"Excellent! We're so glad to have you!" the receptionist chirps as she hands you both exactly 10 safari balls. "Have a great time! Thank you for playing at the Friend Safari!" The two trainers smile at the receptionist, and acknowledge each other briefly before heading their separate ways: Cynder on the trolley to the Grass type zone and ILS to the Fairy type zone.

Cynder:
You step off the trolley to find yourself in the middle of a sunny, flowering field with trees placed around sparingly. (I hope you aren't allergic to pollen). You take in your surroundings for a minute, enjoying the sight, before heading on your way. Not very long after that, you see a wild LombreLombrelounging in the shade of an oak. What do you do?

Stepping off the trolley, you find yourself in a place almost out of storybook, with a thick forest behind you, a stream with a bridge ahead, and... is that a castle in the distance?! You marvel at the sight, before you hear the sound of a pokemon in front of you. Its a CleffaCleffa, seemingly welcoming you to the zone! What do you do?

You sneak carefully up behind the Lombre until you are in Safari ball throwing distance, and you toss the ball at the Lombre, catching it instantly. Psyched by your first catch, you and your Cyndaquil high-five each other, and you're about to continue along when your Cyndaquil nudges you: there, in the distance, walks a wild male Venusaur!!!!!!!Venusaur(I'm just as surprised as you) What do you do?

You walk up to the Cleffa, endeared by it, kneel down, and hold out the Safari Ball. The Cleffa grins, taps the button, and is caught. Convinced that this Cleffa is a sign and your luck will improve, you are later covinced of that when you continue on to find a male MarillMarillplaying in the stream. What do you do?

Notes: forgot to put in the genders for your Lombre and Cleffa, I calculated them and Cynder, your Lombre is female and ILS, your Cleffa is a male.

Putting all your hopes of catching that Venusaur, you lob it over at him (It was like 100 feet, so you wanted it bad.) It wiggles once, twice, thrice, and escapes and runs off never to be seen again and Venusaur is caught! Not bothering to hide your ecstacy, you let out a cry of YESSSSS!!!!, and continue on with a big grin on your face. Suddenly, you spot a male ChespinChespinfrolicking. What do you do?

Sorry, I'm too busy staring at my Venasaurs' Pokeball to notice the Chespin.
Ignore

(Some constructive criticism, I hope: The way you've worded the 1/0 shiny chance is very ambiguous to me. Do you mean that their is a 100% chance of finding a shiny or a 0% chance? The problems with zero

Still excited by your Venusaur, you pass by the Chespin without a second thought. In fact, you are so happy that you almost miss the female LotadLotadplaying in the pool. What do you do?

Notes: Yeah 1/0 means there is a zero percent chance. I had to find a way to represent 0% with a ratio and that sprang to mind.

Ready to move on, you head come up to a crossroads. The left way seems to have more trees, while the right side has more flowers and tall grass. And between the crossroads is a female NuzleafNuzleafdozing, nearly concealed, save for the small leaf at the top of its head being visible. What do you do? Do you go left or right? (Those are two separate questions by the way.)

After some deciding, you decide to go left into the forest-y area. After about a minute and no grass types are found, you start to wonder if they were scared off by the presence of your Cyndaquil and its flames, when suddenly a brave male SewaddleSewaddle hanging from silk tied to a tree above you falls right in front of your face in an attempt to pull a practical joke on you, which succeeds. You jump backward, startled and a bit spooked, but regain your senses quickly.

What do you do?

Keeping your pace, you continue walking until you reach a crossroads. To your left, there is a bright forest with a clear dirt path, with what appears to be a small house ahead. To your right leads to a large open flowering field, covered with mist and seems to give off a magical vibe. Straight ahead is a pat that leads to the aforementioned castle, looking even bigger and grander from closer up. And right above you flies a male SpritzeeSpritzee, humming to itself.

What do you do? Do you go left, right, or straight?
