It's a slow day at the Battle Royal Dome, just a few bored teenagers hanging around to watch the battles. There are barely enough challengers to make a full battle, in fact, but those who manage to get into a complete group of four seem enthusiastic enough. They stand around chatting with their pokémon by their sides, taking their time to get into their places at the four corners of the ring. The pokémon themselves fidget nervously as they take their places; for most of them, this will be their first battle with their new trainers, and of course they're all hoping to make a good impression. Only Cassie appears indifferent, blowing lazy coils of smoke and eyeing her opponents without much interest. They're just a bunch of kids.

That's perhaps being a bit generous to Rocky Balboa (but as a crab), who's punching one heavy claw in the air and humming his personal theme song; most pokémon would probably consider him a bit old for that sort of behavior. Certainly Prince Fluffybutt is looking disdainful, nose in the air and letting his luxurious tails ripple and glitter under the powerful stadium lights. Then again, he's probably disdainful of anyone less pretty than him; certainly he can't think any better of Navi, who's squeaking and waggling with obvious delight at being called on to do battle.

The pokémon sober up when the referee calls for the round to begin, albeit only a little, and Rocky pounds his claws against the floor, unable to contain his energy. It's time to fight!

And the battle begins... with a long, drawn-out silence as the pokémon stare at each other, each waiting for the others to make some kind of move. It's Prince Fluffybutt who ends up going first, sniffing and twitching his tails in annoyance at his opponents' reluctance to fight. The vulpix breathes out a tiny, coiling ball of frost, which floats up and away until it hangs high above the arena, gleaming with icy-blue light. Seconds later it begins to scatter hailstones down over the ring.

Cassie hardly notices the ice pellets bouncing off her thick shell. She's watching Navi and Rocky, who appear to be locked in a deadly staring contest. Even the laid-back turtonator's getting tired of watching them stand around, so she decides she may as well get on with her own attack. Cassie blows out a tongue of swirling blue flame, which zigs and zags off in Rocky's direction, crackling ominously.

All the crabrawler's attention is focused on Navi as he waits for any sign of attack, so he doesn't even notice the ball of blueish flame drifting across the arena until it scorches him on the side. Rocky jumps, chittering in surprise and pain.

And of course that's when Navi makes her move, tiny wings humming as she dives towards Rocky. The crab stops trying to beat off the flames, instead scuttling side to side on his many-jointed legs, leaving a haze of phantom images behind. Navi hesitates a moment, trying to make sense of the blurry string of crabrawler in front of her, but the relentless hail pierces the illusions, and within moments they've disappeared. Rocky only has a moment for indignation before Navi dives on him with an energetic kiss, leaving him weak-kneed with more than just embarrassment.

A moment later a ripping, freezing blast of air, courtesy Prince Fluffybutt, tears around the arena, momentarily dulling the pain from Rocky's burn and riming his carapace with ice. Even Cassie feels the icy wind's bite, although given how slow she is to begin with, it could hardly make her more sluggish.

Navi, on the other hand, is having a bit of trouble; the icy wind blows her almost clear across the arena, and the crystals forming on her tiny wings are making it hard for her to stay aloft at all. Cassie's flamethrower is almost a blessing--it melts at least some of the ice, enough for Navi to stay airborne. On the other hand, being on fire isn't all that much better than being frozen, and the cutiefly flies in panicked, squealing loops, trailing smoke behind. In the end she careens past another of Rocky's fading, hail-pocked illusions to nail him with a second draining kiss, which at least refreshes the cutiefly a little with the crabrawler's stolen energy. Her whole body stings, though, even after the healing--it's clear that the flamethrower did lasting damage, and nothing but some serious burn care's going to be able to fix it.

The round begins with Navi diving at Cassie with a tiny, humming war cry. The cutiefly throws herself again and again against the turtonator's armored hide, completely undaunted by the dragon's larger size and the fact that her minute fists do no visible damage to her target. It turns out that Navi has a truly impressive amount of anger compressed into her tiny frame, and while her individual punches do almost no damage at all, the sheer number of them add up to a formidable attack.

Finally Navi's too exhausted to go on, tired of slamming into Cassie's shell and starting to really feel the burn that set her off in the first place. The cutiefly buzzes off to a quiet corner of the arena to collect herself, only for Prince Fluffybutt to saunter over, like he's either terminally stupid or somehow can't recognize the signs of a seriously pissed off murderbee.

Navi puffs up immediately. Prince Fluffybutt saw what happened to Cassie, didn't he? Does he want some of that too, huh???

But no, he just came over to tell her how impressed he was by her facade. In his opinion, Cassie's just a bully, picking on the smallest of her opponents, and it was incredibly satisfying to see her get her comeuppance. Navi has to admit, she is pretty awesome, and while Prince Fluffybutt goes on singing her praises, she can't help but notice that he's a rather handsome vulpix. His white fur glitters enchantingly in the hail, and his delicate tails sway almost hypnotically while he talks. Navi's having some trouble focusing on what he's saying, actually.

Unfortunately, Prince Fluffybutt's attention to Navi leaves him little for monitoring his opponents. Rocky's able to creep up right behind him and connect with a power-up punch that flips Prince Fluffybut clean over with a yip of distress. Navi barely has the time to get out a shocked buzz before the downed vulpix is engulfed in flame, courtesy Cassie.

Navi's absolutely had it with that awful turtle. First she sets Navi on fire, and now she's attacking that poor, innocent (and rather attractive) vulpix? Navi squeaks in absolute fury and tears off, slamming into Cassie with another vicious facade.

The turtonator grunts in surprise and consternation--she's just never going to get used to how hard that tiny cutiefly can hit--and turns her flamethrower's stream on Navi, driving her away in squeaking, smoking dismay.

Prince Fluffybutt, still collapsed on his side, tries to avenge Navi with another blast of icy wind. Unfortunately the cutiefly herself is caught up in the freezing wind as well, but at least it looks like Cassie got the worst of it.

Meanwhile, Rocky's perfectly happy to be left out of the drama unfolding between the other three pokémon. With them all absorbed in sniping each other, it's easy for the crab to land another power-up punch on Prince Fluffybutt without anyone but the put-upon vulpix noticing.

Navi's feeling pretty good, convinced that beating Cassie up a second time finally got across to the turtonator that attacking the magnificent Prince Fluffybutt just isn't nice. At least the fire-type doesn't show any inclination to fire off another flamethrower; in fact, she's just standing around with her eyes closed for some reason. In any case, victory! The cutiefly turns a quick loop before considering her next command.

And what consideration it takes. The cutiefly buzzes back and forth in agitation. A kiss? Really? Does she even dare?

Well... orders are orders, aren't they? Nobody could argue with that. The cutiefly steels herself, then dives down and lands a quick draining kiss on Prince Fluffybutt's cheek.

Navi squeaks in dismay as the vulpix immediately bounds away. Was she being too forward? Does he hate her now? There's no way to know--no way to even ask, since the vulpix is now tearing a blistering-fast lap around the edge of the arena, his glittering fur lost amongst the falling hailstones. Navi strains her eyes to see, and as a result doesn't notice the fist-size rock falling from above until it smashes into her, carrying her down to the mat. It's joined by a good two dozen others, toppling down one after another until the cutiefly's utterly immobilized under a small pile of rocks. Rocky punches his fists together and hums his theme song to himself, satisfied.

Prince Fluffybutt, who's already forgotten about Navi completely, bounces over to Cassie and does his best to get her attention. He prances, he struts, he flounces his tails and preens as the hail comes down, accentuating the sparkle of his coat and the gleam of his huge, dark eyes. None of it has the slightest effect on Cassie. In fact, he can't even get the horrible turtonator to open her eyes and pay attention to him. Prince Fluffybutt would spend some quality time stewing about this--he can put together a good stew, when the situation calls for it--but just at that moment the sky starts raining boulders, and he's preoccupied running and dodging for his life, while Cassie is apparently content to stand where she is and let the things just bounce right off her. Rocky hums louder, skuttling side to side as the rock slide comes down in a crabby victory dance.

All alone in her rock tomb, Navi buzzes a sad tune, cut off from Prince Fluffybutt by this cold, unfeeling wall of stone, and kind of having some trouble breathing to boot. Still, she can move enough to fluff her fuzz out a bit, releasing a sharp, spicy scent. It's incredibly soothing--so soothing, in fact, that it somehow cleans her burn right up. It even makes her feel slightly better about not being able to see Prince Fluffybutt--but only slightly.

Now easily the most nimble pokémon on the field, Prince Fluffybutt takes advantage of his newfound speed to... flop dramatically onto his side and fall asleep with a rather un-gentlemanly snore. Fortunately for him, no one seems intent on messing with his beauty sleep. Rocky Balboa sees more opportunity in Cassie, who's likewise comatose, and makes a sideways creep over to the turtonator before unloading with a furious facade. His version of the attack attack is much more impressive than Navi's, his punches actually sliding the turtonator across the mat. Cassie grimaces in her sleep, but keeps resting, her accelerated healing helping her recover, at least a little, from Rocky's bruising blows.

Meanwhile Navi's alone in her small prison, half anxiously wondering what's happening to Prince Fluffybutt out there, half anxiously wondering if she's ever going to be able to wriggle out from under all these rocks. It's difficult to put her nerves aside and focus, but the cutiefly forces herself to calm, to take deep breaths and close her eyes and extend what psychic abilities she has to sense Cassie's unguarded dreams. To her surprise, she finds Prince Fluffybutt dreaming too. Long seconds pass in agonized temptation--who wouldn't literally want to become a part of their beloved's dreams? But since dream eater necessarily means destroying the target's dreamscape, Navi reluctantly decides it would be better to leave Prince Fluffybutt in piece. Instead she siphons off the last glimmers of Cassie's dreaming--the turtonator's not far from waking now, but there's plenty of energy to be had in her residual thoughts. Navi buzzes her wings as new energy floods her body, but she's still stuck. The cutiefly subsides with a faint huff of frustration. Once she gets out of here she's going to give Rocky a piece of her mind.

Totally unaware of the designs Navi had on his mind, Prince Fluffybutt lets out a faint sigh, murmuring a few nonsense words in his sleep. Then he takes another, deeper breath and blows out a gale of ice crystals, engulfing a wide arc of the arena in slushy ice. Rocky Balboa manages to get his fists up to block the worst of the powder snow from getting in his face, but it leaves him cold and shivering nonetheless. He stretches back and forth a moment, limbering up, then brings both his oversized fists down on the mat simultaneously.

A killer earthquake ripples out from the point of contact, throwing the rest of the arena into chaos. Prince Fluffybutt goes bouncing away towards the edge of the arena, sound asleep the whole while, and Navi, who'd just been wondering at the faint bite of cold that was all she experienced of the powder snow, finds her whole prison trembling. Rocks slide and roll away from the pile as it gets shaken apart, but the cutiefly finds her situation more dangerous than ever, as she's now at the center of a field of bouncing, rolling rocks. The cutiefly scrambles and buzzes desperately away from the epicenter, trying to orient herself despite the constant shaking.

Cassie wakes with a grunt, then groans and slowly rises to her feet. After so long spent in a healing trance, she sure doesn't feel all that much better. The turtonator looks down at her arms, already starting to show livid bruising from Rocky's facade last round, in total incredulity. Just what's been happening around here?

Cassie sighs and shakes her head, then turns slowly until she finds Prince Fluffybutt lying in a heap near the edge of the arena. Completely without sympathy for the comatose vulpix, Cassie unleashes a flamethrower that engulfs him completely, but fails to wake him up.

Meanwhile an exhausted, battered Navi perches atop a rock, braced against the last fading tremors. Now, at last, it's time for her to reach out to Prince Fluffybutt--to try to become more like him, at least in some small way. Closing her eyes in concentration, the cutiefly forges a mental link with the vulpix, her muscles reacting without her realizing it, relaxing and shedding the sluggishness they'd gained from cold. At the same time, and largely without the infatuated cutiefly's notice, her own sluggishness is seeping into Prince Fluffybutt's mind, ensuring he'll wake markedly less energetic than he was before.

Navi hums to herself, content to maintain her mental link with Prince Fluffybutt. Her darling prince--why wouldn't she want to be close to him in dreams as well as awake? She's almost glad she ended up having to reach for Cassie's dreams last time instead; it makes the contrast between the turtonator's dreams and Prince Fluffybutt's naturally-far-superior ones all the sweeter. Navi buzzes happily along in Prince Fluffybutt's subconscious, following the vulpix as he frolics through endless flowering fields, the sun of his dreams warming her and no small amount of his energy leaking into her through the psychic link. Neither the cutiefly nor any of the other pokémon notice Cassie turning ponderously to put her heavily-spiked shell between herself and her opponents, waiting for one of them to come for her--Navi being, of course, the preferred target.

Prince Fluffybutt twitches and groans in his sleep, feet pedaling in the air as he tries to flee from a nightmare cutiefly. The vulpix's muttering grows louder and more agitated until he actually rolls onto his feet, crying out in a blast of freezing air. It comes out as just a misty puff of condensation, but the vulpix's yell in fact stirs the beginning of a much more fearsome attack. Rocky ducks behind his oversized fists as a cold wind sweeps across the arena, but can do little to shield himself from the oncoming front of blowing ice and snow. Visibility drops nearly to zero, the air a solid mass of white as a blizzard howls through, dumping several inches of snow and ice on the pokémon in the arena, all of them save Prince Fluffyutt miserable in the cold.

If there's any blessing here, it's that when the blizzard howls its way out, it takes the last of the hail with it. Cassie finds little cause for celebration, though; not only does it not look like any of her opponents are going to trigger her shell trap, the blizzard has left her heavily caked in ice, making it difficult to move. She's a fire-type, of course, so the freezing isn't going to cause her any long-term problems, but still--annoying.

Navi rises out of the snow, the frigid blizzard having broken her psychic hold on Prince Fluffybutt, only for a tumble of rocks to slam her back to the mat. Rocky smiles to himself at the cutiefly's tiny squeak of frustration, and perhaps that's the noise that finally wakes Prince Fluffybutt up. The vulpix's head pops up out of the snow, and he looks around in a daze, feeling ill and achy and really confused by all the snow.

He's just as mystified by his next command: how is he supposed to talk in his sleep if he's awake? The vulpix might have lain back down, closed his eyes and tried to fake it, but Rocky takes the vulpix's blatant confusion as an opportunity to punch him in the face, toppling him back under the snow's powdery surface.

Meanwhile, an irate Navi is having no more of this rock tomb nonsense. The tiny bug fairly vibrates with indignation over Rocky's behavior, thrumming back and forth in the spaces between the rock tomb's stones until she manages to quiver her way straight out of the trap entirely. The cutiefly flexes her pipe-cleaner arms, brandishing too many fists in Rocky's direction. She's feeling great, the rush of adrenaline that accompanied her dance bolstering her, and she's ready to unleash some choice revenge.

Cassie doesn't seem impressed. The turtonator observes that all Rocky has to do is drop another rock tomb on Navi to put her out of commission again. And even if he doesn't, what does the cutiefly intend to do with those tiny little fists? They won't make a dent in Cassie's shell, that's for sure. Excuse the turtonator if she's not exactly shaking in her armor.

Navi rounds on Cassie, gesticulating all the more wildly. You stay quiet now! You want some more, do you? Cassie'd better watch out--Navi's got plans for the turtonator, too!

I thought I put info on what happens upon DQ in the tournament post or the arena info, but apparently not. Basically, once a battler is DQed, their pokémon remains active on the field, but for the rest of the battle is controlled by the mysterious Masked Royal. Every action, the pokémon will use the attack that will deal the most damage* to the pokémon that currently has the highest health total. It can no longer win the match--if it comes in first place, the player who took second will be considered the winner--and if multiple pokémon in the fight are being controlled by NPC's, they may attack each other if appropriate.

In light of this, you're welcome to revise your commands if you like. If I haven't heard anything from you in three days, I'll proceed using the commands you already sent me for this round.

* within reason; I'm not going to exhaustively go though the pokémon's movepool calculating everything to determine the absolute optimal attack. Expect it to be powerful and damaging.

After what seems like an unusually long lull in the action, more orders are incoming--for everyone but Rocky, it seems. The crabrawler blows some anxious bubbles, gaze darting first between his opponents, then around at the crowd watching the match just beyond the sturdy ropes. No sign of his trainer. None at all.

There is a rather loud shirtless guy who seems eager to help. "Crabrawler! Cousin! No need to fear, the Masked Royal is here, and I've got just the plan for you! You are gonna punch that fox. You are gonna punch that fox really hard! Woo!"

That... that's a good plan! Rocky raises his fists, scanning the snow's powdery surface until, at last, one glittering drift shifts, revealing itself to actually be his fluffy, snowy opponent. Rocky leaps on the woozy vulpix before he can get his bearings, unloading a beating much more substantial than the knockout punch he threw at Prince Fluffybutt's muzzle last round. Fluffybutt yips and struggles to escape from the crabrawler, first stumbling, then trotting, then flat-out running away, finally leaving Rocky behind as he accelerates into an agility. Prince Fluffybutt's tired, and running's about the last thing he wants to do, but it's better than standing around and getting punched.

His sprint doesn't last long, though. He might be getting faster, but he's still nowhere near as zippy as Navi, who buzzes in to plant an enthusiastic kiss on his muzzle. Prince Fluffybutt staggers, gasping as a sudden wave of weakness washes over him, his vision going dark and spotty. Why does he feel so... tired?

Meanwhile, Cassie hangs around near the edge of the ring, content to let the others beat each other up while she prepares for later. The turtonator's limbs thicken visibly as she channels fighting energy into her muscles, and she flexes them back and forth, enjoying the tingle that runs through them.

The Masked Royal isn't as pleased, apparently. "We can't have anybody sitting out and not playing! Crabrawler, cousin, focus on the turtle for now!"

Rocky spins to look at Cassie, punching his fists together in eager excitement, then raises them high, causing a cluster of blade-edged rocks to stab up through the tough mat. Cassie grunts, cradling a slashed arm, and glares daggers at the gleeful crabrawler. Even with her heightened defense, that attack hurt.

Prince Fluffybutt staggers to a halt, panting, which as far as Navi's concerned is simply the perfect opportunity to get in another kiss. There's no escaping her love. Prince Fluffybutt slumps forward, struggling to stay upright, but in the end decides it just isn't worth it. He lies down on the battlefield, struggling to stay conscious and, at the same time, get the energy together for one last attack.

A burst of freezing wind sweeps across the arena, setting Cassie and Rocky to shivering and blowing Navi for a loop, frost accumulating dangerously on her delicate wings. The cutiefly buzzes frantically to clear them, righting herself with effort. Only once she's flying straight again does she notice Prince Fluffybutt lying still on the snow, nearly blending in with it. Taking another nap? But no, he's not making those cute little snores like he did last time. The cutiefly drifts closer, cold horror accompanying the chilly frost clinging to her fuzz. But surely she didn't do that... did she?

Prince Fluffybutt's collapse was perhaps a little anticlimactic, but the crowd gives a rousing cheer for his replacement nonetheless. Kyu the mimikyu curls a shadowy tendril up towards the painted-on face of her pikachu disguise. They're cheering for her? They're cheering for her! And her beautiful disguise! They love her!

The mimikyu mugs for the crowd, morphing her tendrils into claws and swiping energetically at the air. She's having so much fun that she almost doesn't notice the bell sounding to start the next round--almost.

From showing off for the crowd, Kyu turns to showing off for Rocky Balboa, trusting to the strength of her disguise's appeal. And while Rocky isn't so sure about those black, wickedly-sharp claws, he can't deny, the rest of Kyu is cute. And he's flattered, of course, totally flattered that she's chosen him to pay attention to. He does a couple flexes of his own, shows off some of that crabby charm, but then the voice of the Masked Royal pierces his happy, punch-drunk bubble. "Crabrawler! Cousin! You've got to get your head back in the game! Iron head, cousin, and save the flirting for later!"

Feeling a bit sheepish, Rocky shakes his head, then raises his fists again, this time with much more purpose. If Kyu wants him, well, she'll have to be able to take him in full battling form! The crabrawler charges, head lowered and glinting with steel-type energy, and throws himself forward with an iron head attack.

To Rocky's surprise and dismay, Kyu's face gives way before his attack, her neck snapping cleanly so it droops down over her back. For his part, Rocky goes flying, landing on his back with claws scrabbling madly at the air.

And the crab's problems don't end there. Navi's been buzzing back and forth in agitation, dithering. Did Rocky really murder--murder--her beloved Fluffybutt? She can't remember seeing anything like that, but can she be sure? And what if ti's true? What if?

Seeing Rocky struggling to right himself, the cutiefly knows this is her best opportunity to attack. One way or another, Rocky is her opponent, and now he's going to get a real taste of her power. The cutiefly raises her tiny fists, and the lights overhead shimmer and sparkle for a second befoe a column of shining energy comes roaring down to strike Rocky.

The dazed crabrawler is once more trying to right himself when he feels the mat beneath him termbling, regular vibrations that coincide with the thuds of heavy footfalls, growing closer and closer. Cassie's charging, and the other pokémon are getting out of her way--nobody wants to stand in the way of a heavily-armored turtonator making a flat-out run. Only woozy Rocky isn't able to dodge in time.

Cassie lowers a shoulder and plows into the crabrawler, who goes flying in a burst of orange-red energy, slamming into the ropes even as the bell sounds and the crowd roars, cheering a brilliant knock-out.

Because I think most people probably weren't expecting the battle to end just here, Stryke will replace Rocky with his drampa ([Paris] Drampa (M) <Sap Sipper> @ Expert Belt), who will be commanded by the Masked Royal. Rocky will gain EXP for this fight as normal, but Paris will not.
