Empoleon vs. Prettzel

MurrMurr

And this...is my necktie.
A challenge for you battling pleasure:

2v2 Singles
Style: Switch
DQ: Standard week
Damage cap: 25%
Banned Moves: OHKOs, chill limit of 5 per pokemon.
Arena: Sunny Meadow is a small meadow that is usually sunny, and the weather will start sunny. It has a few trees scattered across the area and is mostly high grass that hides the movements of enemy pokemon but it causes pokemon attacking through them to use 1% more energy. There is a circular path of mowed down grass that pokemon can attack through unhindered, though they sacrifice their stealth. Unevolved pokemon only.

And the active squads:

I think I'll start with you, Aden! [Torkoal]

First, let's use a Smokescreen to decrease Abra's accuracy. Then move into the high grass and try to get up close to Abra. If you get close enough to reach him with an Iron Tail, do it. Otherwise, use a Flamethrower, unless Abra uses Protect against these attacks, then use an Iron Defense.

To start off with, wait until he's about to use Smokescreen(don't wait too long), then Teleport into the shaved grass, behind and at a safe distance from the Torkoal. Use Toxic while he moves into the tall grass, and finally Calm Mind.

BATTLE COMMENCE
It's wonderful weather at the Sunny Meadow...sunny, if you could guess that. MurrMurr approached to find Empoleon already waiting there. We went over active squads and the rules of the challenge. After a few minutes, Prettzel arrived, perspiring slightly in the heat of the sun.

"If you need your active squads, come get them, otherwise, I'm not one for huge introductions, so let's go!"

Introductions nonwithstanding, the trainers select the Pokémon they will be using. From Prettzel's side of the field comes Kine the Abra in a brilliant flash of white light. Empoleon, after a moment's worth of pondering, sends out Aden the Torkoal, materializing and casting a disdainful dance over the arena. Commands are ordered, and the battle oficially begins!

Round 1: Pre-Round
Empoleon (Oo)
Torkoal
Aden (M)
-White Smoke
Health: 100%
Energy: 100%

Status: The Abra standard of half-asleep, telekinetically regarding Aden.
Commands: Teleport~Toxic~Calm Mind

Aden almost hyperventilates as the battle begins, Kine subconsciously tensing in his half-sleep. Just when he can bear it no longer, Aden begins exhaling a thick cloud of black smoke, but too late--Kine teleports into the grass behind him, warily glancing at the Torkoal's back. Aden listens for the sign of a hacking, coughing Abra, before realizing that Psychic types probably wouldn't react as offensively to the stuff. He doesn't realize (at the moment) that Kine can and will teleport to get out of danger. Kine, on the other hand, is strategizing how best to hit the Torkoal to stop him from delivering any major damage.
<Aden: -0H, -3E><Kine: -0H, -2E>
Kine gathers festering materials while Aden gently waltzes over to the tall grass, towards the smokescreen (and where Kine was supposed to be, in preparation for Aden's future attacks). Kine, smirking slightly, expels toxic energy to the still-moving Torkoal, propelling it slightly with the help of some telekinetic energy. Aden gets the noxious stuff plastered all over his back, and some of the grass withers and dies around him. Aden would scream, but puffing smoke requires more attention, and his only reaction to the burning pain is a small grimace.
<Aden: -0H, -0E, badly poisoned><Kine: -0H, -4E>
Kine is pleased for a small rest, focusing his mental energies. A small blue spark is released from her body, and then another, and then several phantom sparks are released as Kine tests his new mental powers. Aden, appearing to wait for an Abra to strike, began steaming (more than normal) as he released a concentrated jet of fire at Kine, singing grass along the way. Kine screaming as he was singed by the embers, some of them seeping into his skin. Glaring at Aden, he tried to shake the pent-up sleep out of his eyes to seem intimidating, as the poison licked at Aden and the Burn licked at Kine.

-Flamethrower burned Kine on the third action. Ouchies.
-There are some wilted and goopy-looking plants by where Aden is standing.
-Around that area, there are also some singed patches of grass.
-It is still, of course, sunny.
-Prettzel attacks first next round.

First, use Swagger to rile that tortoise up a bit-do it telepathically if you want. If he somehow prevents you from using it on him (Protect, Substitute, e.t.c) then just use Calm Mind. Next, use Psychic on him to continue with the mental assault. If you are unable to do this to him due to Protect, Chill.

Now, you're probably feeling tired by now, so go ahead and use Rest. Remember, you can still sense Aden while you're sleeping so you can teleport away when he gets too close.

Swagger/Calm Mind~Psychic/Chill~Rest(Employ Teleport defence system)

Torkoal, start off with a Sludge Bomb to hopefully get our opponent poisoned as well. Then, use a Protect to block Psychic. Finally, Solar Beam.

Kine drops the pathetic attempt at an intimidating face and goes back to half-sleeping. He mutters, trying to attract Aden's attention. Aden, distracted temporarily, listens to the murmurs with a sort of deluded interest. The moment Kine has Aden in earshot, he begins telepathically assaulting him with all kinds of senseless bragging, walking with all his evil, snotty brat-style muster. Aden begins shouting incoherently and stomping the ground, with more force than usual. But the sudden deluge of slander bamboozles the Torkoal, as he works on producing a noxious gas for firing at said annoying slander-er. After several moments' eerie pause (in which Aden is charging and Kine is juggling quadratic equations in his head), the giant glop of sludge is fired without any mental interference, straight at Kine. Kine drops, clutching his arm, as even more annoying damaging effects spread throughout his body. The leftover sludge destroys some grass on Kine's side of the field, making the hole even greater. Neither side is in grass, so the full extent of the sun bears down on them now.
<Aden: -0H, -6E, confused (moderate)><Kine: -7H, -3E, poisoned (3% per round starting next round)>
Aden tries. He really does. But while he tries to create the shield that will defend himself against the mental onslaught of Kine, a nerve snaps loose and he finds himself on the ground in the toxic sludge. Speaking of toxic sludge, the nasty goo has managed to find its way into his body, agonizing him as he lays there ashamed. Kine, cackling madly, reaches out with his psychic energies, locating the pain sensors in Aden's brain. Once there, he drums a complicated rythym, causing Aden to scream and fall again into the goop. Aden sets up burning coal again, wanting Kine to scream and run. Now it is Kine sitting passively and Aden trying to frighten.
<Aden: -17H, -0E><Kine: -0H, -7E>
Kine looks drained on vitality, but the burn has found its way into a nerve, and he cringes as it flares up. Nonetheless, he closes his eyes and naps, feeling relief for the telekinetic shedding of the evil burn and nasty poison. He feels suddenly much more tired, shaking slightly in the fight to inhale. Aden, quickly condensing solar energy into a single point, fires a huge blast of light and heat straight at Kine. Kine tries a rather pathetic teleport to get out of the way, but the draining took its toll (and the beam was too fast and too wide), so he got clipped on the side, not taking the brunt of the attack but still quite a bit. Sleeping in the grass, Kine lays low peacefully, while Aden moves as far into the open as he can afford without Kine teleporting away, looking confident and poised.

Arena and Battle Notes:
-Aden hurt himself in confusion on the second action, so Kine went ahead and used Psychic.
-Solarbeam did less damage because Kine was only half-hit as he tried to Teleport away.
-The sun is up, and will remain so indefinitely unless changed by a participant.
-Empoleon attacks first next round.

Torkoal, let's start off with a Snore to attack Abra while he's sleeping, unless he awakes, then use Toxic. Then, I want you to use a Facade, but if he tries to teleport away or Protect it and is asleep, use another Snore, or if he is awake, use an Amnesia. Finally, use a Flamethrower. Once again, use Snore if for some reason Abra is going to prevent the attack while asleep, and if he is awake or awakens, use an Amnesia.

Snore ~ Facade / Snore / Amnesia ~ Flamethrower / Snore / Amnesia

First, Chill, then use two Sleep Talks. Use Thunder Wave if you awake. If you're awake and Aden is somehow paralysed, use Psychic. (But don't try to rouse yourself. Just let yourself sleep.)

Kine, sleeping (as ever, but more deeply this time), relaxes his muscles as lets the natural flow of blood course throughout his body, heightening his relaxation and giving him more energy. Aden waltzes over and tries to coax his vocal chords into a loud enough register to produce a snore, but can't seem to manage it consciously. With a sigh, he backs off temporarily, looking for the non-shelter of the open field.
<Aden: -0H, -1E><Kine: -0H, +5E>
Kine starts murmuring in his sleep, and Aden, expecting a Swagger, backs away (forgetting that sleeping things can't use Swagger) to the fringe of the grass. Kine's muscles tense, preparing himself for survival at all costs. He looks blearily at Aden, watching telepathically for his next move. Aden, one for obliging, charges forward, using the pain of the poison attacking his flesh and destroying his blood for leverage. He slams into the sleeping Kine, a (slightly purple-tinted) ring of pain and suffering blossoming around the point of impact. Kine doesn't vocalize anything, he just falls to the ground, flailing. Aden smirks seeing the Abra writhing in pain as he once again moves towards the open. Speaking of pain, Aden cringes as the poison hammers away in his body, and he glares loathingly at Kine.
<Aden: -4H, -5E><Kine: -16H, -4E>
Kine takes to murmuring again, and this time Aden doesn't back off--last time he didn't take any damage. Then he freaks out as Kine stands and moves a hand. Aden sinks slowly, waiting for the pain to come, but it doesn't. He (after several moments' near-hyperventilating) brings himself to look at Kine. who is moving his hand in circles as he notes something. Aden feels a little tickle as Kine memorizes his stat changes and copies them. Aden burns coal to drive off the itch and work on an attack. He releases a jet of flame from the grass straight at Kine, who rears in pain, but not as painfully as before. It's as though some mysterious force likes Kine and is preventing him from taking too much damage. Aden terminates the Flamethrower dejectedly and trudges back to the open field.

Arena and Battle Notes:
-Kine copied Endure and Psych Up respectively with the two Sleep Talks.
-Snore only works when the user is asleep, not the receiver.
-If damage cap were nonexistent, Kine would have taken 34 damage this round. Ouch.
-The sun is up, and will remain so indefinitely unless changed by a participant.
-Prettzel attacks first next round.

Use Sleep Talk at all times while asleep. If you wake up, Charge Beam him, unless he looks like he's going to protect-in that case, use Calm Mind. If he uses Substitute or a stat-up move, Snatch it. Yes, I can circumvent the three conditional rule-if he's awake, then Sleep Talk no longer becomes an option.

Sleep Talk~Sleep Talk/Charge Beam/Calm Mind/Snatch~Sleep Talk/Charge Beam/Calm Mind/Snatch

Also, why is Kine still heavily asleep? I'd've thought that it would be at least moderate by now...

Ah, I see.

^It's been exactly one round. I try to base it realistically-ish, using examples from my own life. I find that when I am deeply asleep, I'm almost impossible to wake up, but I wake up faster and faster once it gets to what might be called "moderate" and "mild" stages. Maybe I'm weird, but that's what I'm doing. And anyway, you expected me to keep him asleep forever? Kine may wake up once some new attack hits him.

(unnecessary) tl;dr version: *shrug* I try.

Aden, take a Rest. If you fall asleep, use Sleep Talk both following turns. Otherwise if Rest somehow fails on your second turn use Facade, then a Chill.

Rest ~ Sleep Talk / Facade ~ Sleep Talk / Chill

(By the way, does Prettzel realize he ordered "Psychic" but wrote "Charge Beam" in his command line?)

Kine begins by muttering in his sleep as is the norm for sleeping Pokémon at ASB (none of them will ever sit quietly, will they?). He quickly rises, charging enough concentrated static electricity to be fired in a beam at Aden. Aden shrieks as the current surges through his body, but the issues are not huge. However, the current did have the beneficial side effect of connecting his brain again, making him re-aligned with the world and no longer confused. Kine, on the other hand, gets a huge kick out of seeing Aden shocked, and releases a flurry of sparks as he spins in his sleep, almost rising from the coma he's locked himself into. Aden tries to pay it no attention as he settles down his respective muscles into a nice, deep sleep, restoring all of his health but draining him on other vitality. He feels good as the sun beats down on his shell, and were there not a murderous...thing...over there, he might be content (although more than a little bit tired).
<Aden: +27H, -14E, asleep (out for the count)><Kine: -0H, -4E>
Kine begins the mutter of mutters once more, rising and causing a sort of aura to appear around the bodies of both battles. Purple sparks fly and both Pokémon feel a tingle pass over their bodies. Kine feels...protected, shrouded from harm that may come his way. Aden feels as though an invisible barrier has formed around him, copying and reflecting any bad conditions that come his way. Unfortunately, the bad conditions already infecting him aren't repelled, they've already passed the barrier. Aden counters with a diluted mutter of his own. He stands up and paces the area in search of rocks, but as there's nothing but sun and grass, he sits down, clearly discontent. Kine, on the other hand, feels very content as he stands up and shakes away the post-com--I mean, post-sleep tiredness (not all unusual, him being an Abra and all), and settles down to...sleep. Oh, the irony. Meanwhile poison sears through Aden as his body reacts painfully to the tainted blood.
<Aden: -5H, -4E><Kine: -0H, -4E>
Kine sees that Aden won't be protecting or anything, and recalled that if he wasn't protecting, he was to use electricity. He charges up the amount necessary for propulsion through the air and sends it at Kine, who jumps in his sleep and hisses as he goes into metaphorical shock and awe (hehehe, voltage pun). Aden reacts by...(DUN DUN DUNNNN)...talking in his sleep! But this time, something ends up going right, as he spews forth a huge jet of fire straight at Kine, dealing massive damage. Kine yelps in pain and disgust, he was doing so well this round. The sun seems to be mocking him as he sits, trying to shake off the pain.
