Welcome to F.W.A.M.! It's a basic arena, with a little pond in the middle. There's a Magikarp flopping about in this pool. You can attack this Magikarp, who has 100% HP (but no energy). Of course, this isn't exactly a regular Magikarp.

It is a basic Lv. 19 male Magikarp. You may attack this Magikarp if you wish. However, if it falls below 80% HP, it will suddenly evolve into a Gyarados that will attack a random Pokemon at the end of each action. The Gyarados's moves are chosen by the ref.

[Kappa] Mudkip (M) Torrent
Signature Attribute: Natural Leader

Kappa is well known for his charisma, kindness, and never say die attitude. Due to this, Kappa is well liked by his fellow mons, and is a natural born leader. He's sort of like the Barack Obama of the Pokemon world.

Now, let's hypothetically say, that, oh, I don't know, Barack Obama was shot.

You'd probably feel sad that such a great leader has passed away... and then you'd feel angry. You'd do anything to avenge the fallen leader!

That's what happens with Kappa's teammates.

When Kappa is knocked out, his companions will mourn for him after he is knocked out. After that, though, they'll get angry.

Very angry.

Effects: In a double battle, his teammate will mourn the action immediately after Kappa is knocked out. After that, it will be filled with rage and will try to avenge Kappa. To do such, it will gain a +1 in Attack and Special Attack.

Right, so that gyarados (as if it'll ever really come into play) - is it treated as a normal ASB gyarados or are the movepool and damage limited? And are its moves limited to directly damaging attacks?

The Gyarados is treated as a regular Gyarados, with the moves chosen by the ref. Also, the Magikarp can attack... although all it can do is splash around pathetically.

I send out Chikorita.

(If i did it wrong tell me. This is my first battle.)

I don't think there's any wrong way to send out a pokemon, unless you manage to not specify the pokemon you intend to use.

(If you don't want to remove the dashes from your signature, can you uncheck the "Show your signature" box whenever you post in this battle? It stretches my screen, which is not particularly disabling, but it is irritating.)

...hm, I think that Envy might be a good Pokemon to send out for this battle.

Alright, start off with a Taunt to limit its non-offensive options. Follow up with Confuse Ray. If Confuse Ray missed earlier, use it again, but otherwise use Icy Wind.

Okay...start off with reflect, then grasswhistle, then finish with soloarbeam. (if grasswhistle misses use solarbeam anyway.)

Status: Curiously observing the magikarp, though she’s glancing at Envy out of the corner of her eye.

Somewhere in the world, in a location unknown not because of secrecy but because nobody cares, there is a field. Despite the best efforts of the trainer who found it, the field evades description. Those who read the sparse notes taken about the field are likely to find themselves unimpressed, and certainly not interested enough to come and see the arena. It’s quite a shame; if they had, they would have known exactly why the field can only be identified with one feature: there’s hardly anything else to describe. A mostly flat expanse of short grass, but not enough so that either “short” or “flat” would be a useful descriptor; open sky riddled with clouds, like many fields; several weeds, but not many; a few pebbles and grassless patches of dirt; no bushes or trees or anything that could be seen from any distance away. In short, a field.

It is so featureless, so amazingly average, that the eyes of most people would usually pass it without thought. There is no life around here, as even the pokémon seem not to have realised the field’s existence, except for one lonely soul who has been unable to escape for an unknown number of years.

The magikrap—sorry, magikarp—in the pond is probably the only reason Kam found this field at all, or at least why he was able to remember the field the moment he looked away. The poor weak fish was probably stuck here, just below the nineteenth level that would allow him to evolve, in a place devoid of anyone to beat him up and grant him those last few experience points. He’s not bitter, or really anything, and has probably gone insane from the isolation and lack of mental stimulation. Certainly, that would explain the blank, vapid look on his face, and why he doesn’t even seem to register the three humans until they have taken their places in a sort of triangle on the field.

The magikarp swims a little closer to get a better look. All three genders are represented here, with the male and female standing across from each other while the genderless one is right across from the pond, as if separate from whatever’s about to occur. Something red goes flying from the nervous-looking female’s hand, and explodes when it hits the ground. The magikarp watches the bright light coming from the ball, and belatedly wonders why the human went and exploded something quite randomly in this field. Then he notices there’s suddenly something pale green standing there, with a leaf coming from her head. Surprisingly, the chikorita turns her head and stares right at him, giving him a clear look into her strange red eyes. He gapes back. Then something happens, another flash of light, and a dark blue figure floats over the grass. Floats! Like the magikarp does, but not in water!

The male human says something short in a loud, clear voice, and the female says something in return, but somehow they don’t seem to be talking to each other. They’re talking to… the pokémon? But the pokémon aren’t facing the humans; in fact, both pokémon are facing away from the human talking to them! This makes no sense, as far as the magikarp is concerned, and he doesn’t know what to make of it.

.: Actions :.

Chikorita drags her eyes only reluctantly at Envy, but she’s halfway to staring at the magikarp again when Envy launches into a brutal stream of insults. Chikorita’s jaw drops in shock when Envy smoothly moves to taboo topics and ruthlessly mocks everything Chikorita even vaguely stands for. At least, that’s what it feels like, but Envy’s just going after the most obvious things she can think of: Chikorita’s trainer, team, type, and species are the easiest, especially when combined with a mocking tone and a dark power weaved into Envy’s words.

The boiling rage rising up inside Chikorita don’t allow for easy compliance with Ameroq01’s orders, and just this once Chikorita doesn’t care about what her trainer might think. The anger is much louder. But she can’t think of anything. She might not have a hundred attacks, but it’s enough that she can’t think of one to use herself; she’s just filled with the need to hurt the stupid misdreavus. That’s what her trainer’s for, but her trainer’s giving her nothing! With a frustrated scream, Chikorita charges at Envy and leaps, swiping her leaf through the ghost’s body. The recklessness of her attack and disregard for anything else mean that she falls on her face, but she still leaves Envy shocked that it was possible for Chikorita to harm her like this.

In excitement, the magikarp tries to get in on the action. He collects weak water energy from within and releases a cloud of bubbles into the air. The bubbles float up, unnoticed by either combatant.

Envy just continues her train of thought: well, then, she’ll lower Chikorita’s ability to attack at all, even with such a pathetic one as that. Her eyes glow purple. A beam of dancing lights swirl toward Chikorita, forming a cloud around her. The bright colours and lights flashing and disappearing in her vision leave Chikorita disoriented. Everything is too vivid, she can’t concentrate, but she’s still filled with an intense need to attack Envy and her eyes failing her won’t stop anything. She peers through the swirling colours and finds a dark floating shape with those distracting red things and bright pink flashing around the edges every so often and—Chikorita staggers backward, but she manages to concentrate long enough to leap up and slash through Envy’s body with her leaf. She takes another tumble into the dirt, even more off-balance than usual, but she quickly gets to her feet. Even when swaying and feeling as though she’ll fall at any moment, Chikorita refuses to show weakness.

Naturally, the confusion shows, and Envy can clearly see Chikorita stumbling around everywhere. Pathetic, especially since Chikorita has four legs for added stability and Envy has nothing but her own power keeping her afloat. Maybe a little breeze will be enough to knock Chikorita over; that’ll be a nice sight. Envy breathes air into nonexistent lungs, and the temperature within drops at an unnatural speed. Then Envy releases the air in a frosty breath that makes Chikorita shiver. Surprisingly, though, Chikorita stops being on the verge of tripping, and glares up at Envy with an expression implying her vision is, at least for the moment, clear.

Chikorita grits her teeth. She wants to attack now, but there’s an option her trainer gave her, and something deep within her wants to obey her trainer. But it takes so long. She raises her leaf and draws in solar energy, but for every painful second she feels that she’s ready to explode. She shudders, eyes narrowing, and doesn’t know if the power gathering within her is emotion or the solar energy. It doesn’t matter, because finally, it’s ready, gathered in her throat. She opens her mouth and unleashes a huge blast of white light, which envelops and tears through Envy’s body, blinding and burning, sharp knives Envy can feel slicing everywhere, even on the inside. If Envy usually breathed, the attack would leave her breathless; as it is now, only mute shock accompanies the pain.

The dark power influencing Chikorita's mind fades, but the anger remains.

Envy draws out a small portion of her own health and infuses it into a purple ethereal substance that drifts out of her mouth. The gas thickens and forms an imitation misdreavus, though smaller than the real thing. She looks over the substitute, frowning. It was supposed to be smaller than that, but she couldn’t quite manage. It’ll do, though, and since it’s more resilient than her trainer asked for, it might even help.

It turns out that what she thinks is the main purpose of the substitute, preventing poisoning, never happens, however. Chikorita’s memory of her first order is ripped away, replaced by only a feeling of vagueness and light-headedness. She takes a step forward, then another. Her foot hits something unexpected (the nearly flat ground), and she falls over onto her face. She rolls onto her side. What just happened? She was… and then she… and after that… she doesn’t know.

She’s even more confused when she looks up at Envy, although the feeling of dizziness fades somewhat. There’s two of them, now, except one is different, and the other is twirling around and flying in circles. Chikorita closes her eyes, not wanting to see all of that spinning. Envy sings to herself, trying to make up a tune that fits the memorised dance, but it’s not the song that matters. Clouds gather into the sky and thicken, covering the clear blue with a blanket of darkening grey. A few raindrops fall, followed by more, and the light drizzle turns to a heavy downpour in a matter of seconds.

Chikorita finds the cold water against her face soothing and sobering. She nearly falls again when she tries to stand, but she catches herself. She looks up at Envy and reaches out into her life force, but the substitute flies in the way and glows green instead of the target. Not minding entirely too much, Chikorita draws tiny green orbs from the aura toward her. Some of the orbs touch Chikorita’s skin and vanish, healing the light scratches on her face from all those times she hurt herself. Parts of the substitute drift away and vanish, and the doll loses its shape. When the aura fades, only shreds of the gas, barely resembling a misdreavus’s head, remain.

Envy draws poison from within her ghostly body, perhaps synthesising it herself subconsciously. She floats over Chikorita to ensure the best accuracy possible, then tilts forward and spews out a disgusting dark liquid all over Chikorita’s back. The toxin splatters, splashing onto the back of Chikorita’s head and dripping down her legs. The poison slowly oozes into her skin and enters her bloodstream, but she doesn’t notice yet. She just lifts up her leaf and tries as best she can to draw the limited sunlight through the clouds and into her leaf. She has to focus harder, because she has to be more efficient with the small amount of energy she can get, and each wave of dizziness, with the world spinning around her and her vision blurring, threatens to take it away. Finally, she opens her mouth and lets out a brilliant blast of energy—though smaller than before—that easily tears through the remains of the substitute doll. Envy giggles as she watches her substitute disintegrate in front of her, knowing that no matter the power of the weakened attack, the substitute can absorb it with the last of its strength.

Invigorated by the rain, the magikarp hops into the air and lands back in the water with a small splash.

There is a pause as the ripples from the splash make their way to the edge of the pool. An ominous breeze blows through the field, stirring the grass. The light patter of the rain is almost tentative. Chikorita stumbles.

Then nothing happens.

Envy stares at Chikorita until Chikorita returns the gaze, which isn’t too long since Chikorita wants to show defiance. It turns out to be Chikorita’s mistake. Envy’s eyes glow deep red, and the eyes are all Chikorita can see, redredredred, growing and shifting and warping around her. She can’t tell it’s the psychic energy interfering with her mind, and even if she could, she wouldn’t be able to do anything about it. The red is joined by swirling pink and purple and orange, then blue and yellow and green, spinningspinningspinning around her. Above there’s still bluewhiteskyclouds and two brilliant red suns. The colours form shapes, which vanish and then leap out from somewhere else. But slowly, the randomness of the colours stop and they settle into a pattern that looks very much like a vibrant garden filled with generic flowers of all colours. There are no clouds and there is only one yellow sun. Chikorita delightedly sniffs at one of the flowers and intakes the sweet aroma. She vaguely remembers her orders, but to taint this beautiful land with poison would be an act of incomprehensible evil that Chikorita will not even consider.

Chikorita lets out a soft snore, signalling to Envy that she’s fully asleep. Smiling, Envy lets the red glow of her eyes fade, which is then replaced with pink. She envisions her next attack as invisible psychic tendrils reaching out into Chikorita’s mind and bringing up images of the beautiful flowery field. Envy draws in the scents and colours into her own mind, not caring that they’re fading out of Chikorita’s dream or that what she’s doing might be considered theft. The colours and smells are invigorating. She even feels a little better physically. Envy leaves Chikorita’s mind, still remembering the colours and aromas. She’d be happy to do it again.

The magikarp decides that the misdreavus has been at an advantage throughout the battle, since the misdreavus’s tactics seemed to work best, so he swims as close to her as he can and tries to verbally get her attention. Envy, though, disregards him, as he’s as uninteresting as the rest of the field. The only field she’s interested in right now is one that she is about to destroy. Her eyes glow pink and she reaches into Chikorita’s mind. The duller, greyer dream world is not as much to her liking, but it works just as well. Chikorita, sniffing at a once-fragrant pale pink flower, glances up to see a ghostly shape drawing in all the colours from the flowers around it. The grass and flowers around the shape die, turn to dust, and are drawn into the shadow. When Chikorita looks around, she sees that the edges of the dreamscape are all disintegrating. Everything is out of focus. The colours darken and fade to black, and something wet hits her face.

Envy grins, tongue sticking out of her mouth, and enjoys fact that the pain has faded. She makes to turn toward her trainer, but in so doing finds herself facing the pond. She notices foam coming out of the magikarp’s mouth. Several pockets of air in the foam grow, and the magikarp blows out the cloud of bubbles and foam. Unlike before, however, the bubbles pass through Envy and suddenly pop. Envy winces at the sudden release of water energy, and she scowls at the magikarp. The magikarp gives her a cheery smile in return, apparently oblivious to her irritation.

Chikorita blearily opens her eyes, and blinks away the blur until she can see clearly. She is delighted to see that everything is clear now, although the rain is still a bit too cold and wet. She doesn’t know why Envy looks so annoyed, but that makes her happy too.

.: Actions :.

Your trainer told you to use Synthesis, didn’t she? In the rain? Having used up her best insults earlier and not wanting them to get stale, Envy begins with her trainer’s words. From there, she riles Chikorita up until she can get away with repeats, because once Chikorita’s anger has started, all that remains is to keep it going and worsen it until Chikorita can no longer control herself. The invisible dark energy leaking out of Envy and toward Chikorita’s head certainly helps with that. This time Envy knows it’s slightly less likely to work, but she’s not surprised when Chikorita falls for it again. Chikorita, as before, leaps up and slashes her leaf through Envy’s body. Being unable to receive actual wounds, Envy only notes slight pain that is altogether forgettable, and she doesn’t forget to remind Chikorita of this fact.

And now there’s something that might send Chikorita out of control. Envy creates a thin, spherical shell of pure energy around her, to protect her from any and all attacks. Chikorita is too incensed to notice the rain failing to penetrate the shield and, with a not-too-frightening roar, rips the underground slumbering stone spirits from their sleep. The ground tears open, creating holes in a circle around Chikorita, and small rocks shoot up. They float around her ominously. Blue and purple flames flicker on the rocks’ surface, which Envy must admit might be a little painful if she wasn’t protected. Since she knows she’s safe, though, Envy just sticks out her tongue. As she expected, the rocks hurtle toward the shield and smash into it. The rocks fall to the ground, fire disappearing, and Envy lets her shield drop with a chortle.

Don’t… IGNORE… ME! With a grunt, the magikarp throws himself into the mud at the edge of the pond, flicking off water. With some effort, he hops toward the grass, although still nobody pays attention to him. If he had been more patient, or if he understood the human tongue, he’d soon get all of the attention he could possibly want. Instead, he forces the issue, and with more force than anyone thought a magikarp could muster, he throws himself several feet into the air.

Envy follows the magikarp’s arc, startled that he could do such a thing and possibly a little nervous. But, at least, she’ll actually have something to compliment him on when she has to—ew trainer why—flirt with the magikarp. He’s pretty pathetic, otherwise. Chikorita bristles, irritated that Envy is ignoring her. She’s supposed to attack the magikarp, and yes, just taking her frustration out on anything is better than doing nothing, but he’s not here at the moment and Envy is floating right there and—

The magikarp slams into the grass beside her, missing only by a few centimetres. Chikorita jumps, startled, then whirls around on him. You know what? Actually, she is going to destroy this bastard, the one who’s helping Envy and trying to attack her like that. She watches in disgust when Envy floats closer to him with a coy smile and shows off her shiny necklace. Envy mentions that she summoned the rain just for him, since she knew how much fish loved water, and ooh, that was a nice bounce, there, and Chikorita can’t stand it. Maybe she’ll attack Envy after all. Except the magikarp is actually falling for it, eyes shining and keeping trained on Envy. How is it possible to actually find anything good in Envy? It’s pokémon like magikarp that allow Envy and others like her to act so cocky and rude. With a growl, Chikorita reaches for the magikarp’s life force and pulls a portion toward herself. The magikarp blinks, startled when a green aura suddenly surrounds him, and he shivers when orbs are ripped off the aura and drawn to Chikorita. Her headache eases somewhat, while the magikarp feels more general pain by the second. Even the magikarp can understand that Chikorita is attacking and hurting him, and he briefly has the urge to spew a bubble cloud at her, but then he catches a glimpse of Envy and relaxes. Attacking Chikorita in revenge isn’t necessary, because all he needs is Envy, and if it costs him some pain, so be it.

BWAHAHAHA AWESOME

Now, I believe we have a nice move here. Start off with a Will-O-Wisp to annoy Chikorita even more. Continue with a nice Icy Wind. Aim it towards Chikorita, but let Magikarp feel a bit of the pain as well. Don't do enough to make him suspicious. Repeat.

If it tries to use Synthesis, Taunt it (unless it is already taunted, in which case just use Icy Wind as normal).

Okay Chikorita, you're doing great! First protect yourself from the will-o-wisp, then mimic Envy's icywind, and then try ancient power once more.

DQ: 5 days
Damage Cap: 40%
Banned Moves: OHKOs
Arena: Field With A Magikarp.

The Gyarados's moves are chosen by the ref.

.: Actions :.

For the first time since the beginning of the battle, Chikorita gets to act first. A thin shell of energy appears around her, barely requiring a thought to set up, and now that she has time to think clearly she has to focus on sustaining the shield. It’s even better now that the rain has been abruptly cut off, and she doesn’t have to worry about getting hurt. There is a flicker of blue within Envy’s mouth, and a ball of blue flame slowly drifts out. The ball continues floating through the air, drifting out of its path and then reorienting itself to float toward Chikorita again, but unlike Envy, Chikorita feels no suspense. Chikorita doesn’t wonder if the rain is weakening the flame too much, or if the flame will miss, or where the burn might be, because no matter what, it won’t get to her. As it turns out, the flame’s final path is directly toward Chikorita, but it crashes into something and disappears. Chikorita lets the shield drop, satisfied that things have finally gone her way.

Envy recognises what must have happened, and she feels a prickle of irritation. She comforts herself, though, with scornful thoughts. A whole protect for a will-o-wisp, especially one used in the rain? What a waste of energy! There are a lot of more worthwhile options Chikorita could have used, and most of them probably wouldn’t take much more energy, anyway! Satisfied that she is still better, Envy lowers her body temperature and intakes a large portion of air. She glances down at the magikarp, who has been ogling her for a while now, and blows out a gust of frigid air. Both Chikorita and the magikarp shiver, but neither is particularly hurt. When Envy apologises to the magikarp and tries to give an excuse, the magikarp informs her of just that with a dreamy (or perhaps his usual vacant) smile.

Although Chikorita would agree, she still finds it uncomfortable and strongly agrees with giving Envy a taste of her own medicine. Taunt would be the poison Chikorita prefers, but icy wind, which makes her want to stop fighting so she can curl up with her trainer and a blanket somewhere, will work almost as well. She thinks back to how Envy just used the move, and her memories return in greater detail than before. She sees just how Envy lowered her body temperature, and realises how to focus the temperature drop around her lungs without actually inflicting hypothermia on herself. That, timed with a deep inhale, and then sucking the remaining heat out of the air and into her own body… and then she returns to reality, lungs full of cold air and knowing just what to do next. She exhales with force, but focuses the breath entirely on Envy. The wind blows right through the ghost, but Envy can still feel it, and she can’t suppress her own shiver.

Thief. Envy decides that it is quite obvious that Chikorita only copied the icy wind because any move of Envy’s is obviously better than anything a chikorita could have. And Envy can perform it better, look—she does the same thing as before, inhale, absorb the heat, exhale—and look, it’s two pokémon shivering in the attack’s wake, not just one! Besides, both of them can actually feel the rain flicking into their faces with the wind, which Chikorita cannot achieve.

Having had quite enough of icy winds by now, Chikorita goes back to another attack that had once failed, but she now knows that it won’t happen this time. She calls on the spirits living in the bedrock below, informing them of her enemy and asking them to attack. Obediently, the spirits take control of rocks underground. Rocks covered in colourful flames fly out of the same holes as the others previously had, some smaller than their holes and others scraping out dirt with them. The rocks and pebbles float in a circle around Chikorita, flames unaffected by the rain. Then, all at once, the rocks hurtle toward Envy, then through her, burning her insides. Envy grimaces, but still, it doesn’t hurt as much as the solarbeam did, and she’s certain that with the rain, Chikorita can’t use anything reasonably powerful that Envy should worry about.

The magikarp glares at Chikorita. Attack his girlfriend, will she? Now, he didn’t mind the icy wind too much, because they’ve already established that icy wind doesn’t hurt very much, but throwing rocks is a serious offence, and when the rocks are on fire, it’s even worse. And didn’t Chikorita see that cute but pained expression on Envy’s face? Even though he adores Envy no matter what she looks like, it hurts him deeply to see her in pain. He decides to help out, just as a warning to stay away from his girl. He draws out water from within his body and brings it to his mouth. Chikorita gives him a slightly concerned glance when she sees him foaming at the mouth, but then some of the small bubbles fill with air and float out of his mouth in a cloud. It was on purpose, then, not a sign of insanity (although infatuation with Envy could be considered a type of mental defect, in Chikorita’s opinion). The bubbles explode against Chikorita’s skin, rather startling but not too painful.
