• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

That describes most of my nights. It just means you're sinking into the excellent stereotype.

ASB password scare and related bans

People have the right to be angry. But I agree with you that direct, public attacks on the people involved are uncalled for. Please be civil, everyone. That said, I would also appreciate it if everyone withheld final judgement on this for now. We're working very hard to be absolutely sure that...

Haha, I forget how rarely I post because I lurk basically all the time. Nothing much! I am between Major Life Events, living in London, pondering what to do next, but generally having a good time. There are plenty of fun Minor Life Events. Been to Japan lots. Yourself?

Oh, I know. But mostly I think it's just the case that American networks have more money. :P

American TV quizzes are a totally different beast. There's far fewer of them, but they're less afraid of actually giving money away. When it comes down to playing for money, British TV quizzes usually feature the player against the game, rather than against another player. So there's no...

They'd never take me. Quiz shows with monetary prizes filter out people who are too good. (That said, I did try once, before UC. Never heard back.)

well, I can hardly resist self-promotion when someone actually asks for it :D University Challenge round 2, first quarter final, second quarter final, semi final, final Only Connect match 1, match 2

haha, I didn't really want to go overboard with "look guys I'm on TV!!", or I would have stubbornly bumped this thread for every subsequent UC episode as well. :P

Quite possibly a man on the New Delhi metro giving up his seat for me when I was very ill. This will make sense if you have ever been on the New Delhi metro.

    Increase picture filesize limit.

They're probably saved at resolutions much too large to make any difference viewed online. A jpeg at 72dpi and ~1280x720px should come in around 100kb, and is more than ample for your needs. Or you could use an image hosting website.

Do you intend to move from where you live?

I am on my fifth (sort of) country. I'm not sure I can handle not moving, eventually.

    Socialism

I feel really torn about this. On the one hand, I suspect Scotland is probably better off without the rest of the UK. On the other hand, oh god please don't leave who else will vote in centre-left governments. As with practically everything I suspect the answer lies somewhere in between the two...

    What are you reading? II

Would that be Chronicle of a Death Foretold in the English translation? I'm quite impressed they have you read Garcia Marquez at the age of 14.

    Drinking Age

This is an argument against alcohol abuse, not against alcohol. In moderation alcohol is largely harmless and might even be beneficial. The vast majority of people who drink alcohol don't abuse it, so why should it be banned? Of course I also think that the other drugs you listed should be...

    Drinking Age

I'm a bit distressed that people think alcohol should be banned outright. Would anyone care to defend this point of view?

    Drinking Age

Banning drugs never, ever works. I agree with surskitty: demystifying the concept of alcohol can only be a good thing.
