• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

    GMO vs. Organic food products

This may be so... but do you really think that's FAIR? You're dad wasn't the greatest guy in the world so now everybody else hates you too because of HIS mistakes which you had no control over? If you think that's fair, then you must be a pretty awful person. If you don't think that's fair...

Vermont close to legalising samesex marriage

I blush for my country. This is pretty sad.

If you had proof of no god would you show the world?

Agreeing with the majority in that showing the evidence to the world would probably sway very few theists. Since when has evidence ever meant anything to them, anyway?

How do you like your steak?

Mmm, this thread is making me hungry for steak. I always order my steak medium... I want it to be juicy... and if I can get mushrooms on it, that's a plus too. :)

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

What's puzzling me is why someone who seems to have such a disdain for science would be planning to study biology (unless she has no choice in the matter, I suppose).

    Is having children selfish?

I can see the point about how "everything humans do is selfish, therefore having children is selfish" isn't quite the kind of discussion the OP was after... I dislike that "selfishness" has a negative connotation, when I see it as a very important (and good) force, but I suppose there's not much...

    Time travel.

I think time travel is possible in the sense that "anything is possible", but how one would go about traveling through time is beyond me. I find the idea of going back in time to change future events extremely puzzling... silly example perhaps, but I think of the scenario in the first Back to...

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

Ah, I see how it is. Own up, then, you're enjoying this debate, however pointless in the end, just as much as the rest of us! ;) (Well, it's entertaining me at least, if nobody else.)

    Is having children selfish?

Certainly parenting isn't all roses and gardens, and not everybody succeeds in raising their child to be an outstanding citizen. Perhaps the parent might have regrets later on if things don't go well, but when the decision "let's have children" is made, the notion in the future parents' minds...

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

If you detest debates about the existence of god and find that they end up going nowhere (which seems to be true for most debates, really), why did you bother clicking on this thread? :3 Certainly you must have known what you were in for... if you think discussion of the existence of a god is...

    Education in US

I don't think that compulsory or state-funded education is a bad thing, necessarily... I'm sure that if most five-year-olds had the option, they would choose not to go to school but go outside and play all day... that's what I'd have chosen for myself at that age, anyway. I think that so many...

    Is having children selfish?

I think you must have missed the last sentence of my post, where I said that even if somehow your reproducing would end up benefiting society, that's not really what one typically has in mind as a motivation for having children. My argument isn't that it /couldn't/ be beneficial to more than...

    Your Religion

Guys, Hinduism doesn't have one exact doctrine like Western religions do. :3 Different Hindus believe widely varying things, but they're all considered orthodox Hindus. Some of them buy into the "brahman is the one true reality", some of them don't. It's not like Christianity where everybody's...

    TCoD Convention

    Aw man, I wish I could go to the Expo. Or Iceland. Or both. =( Sadly, however, I am poor and live on an entirely different continent... maybe someday? ^^;;

    Your Religion

Generally, yes; but Hinduism is a very vague term applied to a wide range of belief systems, and there are a few atheistic schools of thought in Hinduism. Although, as I said in my previous post, devotional Hinduism is by far more common.

Obama announces Global War on Terrorism is over!!...

You have to admit, though, that "Overseas Contingency Operation" does sound more sophisticated. Bush probably would have never come up with that one because he wouldn't have been able to pronounce it.

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

Tanmac's rationalizations remind me of my own thoughts when I was trying to make myself buy into religion at about age, oh, nine or ten. >_< Edit: Actually, now that I've noticed his age is listed at 13, I'm not all that surprised.

    Is having children selfish?

I completely agree, Werty... it's all selfish, but all natural and not necessarily a bad thing!
