• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Virga quirked an eyebrow. "That is rather more interesting." It was also another unexpected parallel. One could almost get the idea that the two humans being summoned as twin species were some kind of cosmic joke. Of course the differences became apparent with a closer look. He had no personal...

Virga had the distinct feeling she was being condescended to. But she wasn't in any position to blame the decision on Mew's insistence. The only recourse was to stand by it. The Corvisquire clacked her beak. "My human has been. Adequate. She has demonstrated unexpected creativity in times of...

Virga gave a small nasal huff. "The social roles humans ascribe to various ages were unfamiliar to me, and weren't my concern regardless," she replied, making sure that her tone was not one that suggested ignorance on the matter so much as indifference. The subject was merely beneath a legend...

Virga was no stranger to the concept of Pokemon willingly pledging themselves to human trainers, however unrelatable she found it. This Noivern of such imposing size and many years, however... his perspective seemed not dissimilar to the legends'. And yet he sought out a human trainer? "In my...

This one was perceptive. Virga preened a few feathers and considered her response. "You guess correctly. My power is inherited from my predecessor, same as my fellow legends. A predecessor who, by necessity, had departed before I had awakened. I presume the Saints of this land must learn the...

Virga eyed the Noivern as he made his descent. "Mm, indeed," Virga replied, clacking her beak. "It didn't feel appropriate, while saddled with such a... diminutive vessel, and would only invite ridicule at having fallen so far. Words mean little without the strength to back them up." The...

As the weather improved, Virga took to stretching her wings more often, and the ravine was well-suited to practicing aerial maneuvers. The new body that evolution had granted her was at least more suitable for combat, though still far weaker than she would have liked. More training, then. The...

The sky was an overcast gray, threatening rain in the coming hours. The air was still, and the ravine silent, save for the occasional thwack of an impact on dry wood. Virga, wings glowing, struck at the gnarled surface of a tree branch at the tail end of each dive before peeling back around...

Zapdos sprung up onto a higher ledge with an energetic leap, still crowing with amusement at such a bold display. "Indeed," he replied, meeting Steven's smirk with one of his own. The two of them had undoubtedly surprised him, and that was rare. "We'll meet under stormy skies, then," the...

Zapdos had been watching their setup with some amusement, but there was no denying that he was actually curious to see where this was going... And then Koa rocketed into the air at blistering speeds, electrical sparks trailing behind him like a beacon in the face of the inky-black curtain...

Zapdos gazed at Steven and Koa for a long moment before turning away. "Like I said last time—you're free to use your own strength however you wish." There was a lot less force behind it than before, though. Fighting the demons of Blaguarro, fighting Cipher, was exactly the sort of challenge...

"You'll reach it?" Zapdos crooned, casting an amused glance at Koa. "Ha! Have all of you learned to fly like that Ninetales, then?" The thunderbird swung himself downward so that his talons clung to the tree while his body hung below, eyeing the two Wayfarers. "I suppose it's in your nature...

Zapdos's piercing yellow eyes, visible even without the occasional lightning flash, blinked as he processed what Koa had said. Turning his gaze skyward, the thunderbird muttered, "Then he's the one who's defiled the Stormbringer's rest." Stormbringer's rest... The spread of shadow-corrupted...

Zapdos gave a dry laugh. "Indeed. I've ridden this storm countless times and never seen it in this state. The boy saw it as it is meant to be, wild and untouched." The Cyclone glanced back up at the jet black expanse, just in time for a flash of lightning to split the sky in two. Even the...

The Cyclone didn't immediately react to Koa's voice, and it was hard to tell if he'd even heard it. But then, on his next pass racing along the ravine's edge above them, he took a leap down the side, claws digging into the canyon wall to slow his descent until he landed in front of Koa with a...

Threadmarks: Ch07: Stormy Skies, Dark Omen

It was as if an inky curtain had been draped across the skies over the Silver Ravine. No starlight, no moonlight. The occasional wicked spires of lightning and deafening peals of thunder were the only things even marking it as a storm, as opposed to some unnatural black hole. The air itself...

The corner of Zapdos's beak curled upward. "Stormy skies." With a deep crouch and a flying leap, the Roaming Cyclone sprung into the air and sprinted straight up the sheer incline of the ravine, disappearing over the cliff's edge. The flashes of lighting grew ever more distant as the storm...

"Last resort," Zapdos repeated, letting out a crooning laugh. "So you expect to overcome your enemies with words? With systems? Or is it simply by teaming up to use combined strength for as long as that agreement lasts?" Lightning flashed, and the giant avian leaped up onto an overhanging...

Zapdos shrugged his pointed wings. “It’s ancient history, but that’s the tale as I’ve heard it—the strongest offworlder for the strongest crisis. And I’ve never heard of another offworlder becoming a saint.” Zapdos stared back, his eyes sharp. “When I clash with offworlders, it’s with the aim...

Zapdos clacked his beak. "The myth of the Saint of Victory. The strongest offworlder of the ages." He smirked and said, "I've said before that offworlders have often used their strength to exert their will on their world while claiming otherwise. But then... if you dislike a truth of the...
