Arena: Mediterranian Grasslands.

The dominant grassy vegetation makes this area seem quite plain at first but upon closer examination, various scorch marks and patches of dead and damaged grass make evident the popularity of this particular grassland for Pokémon battles. The vast, open territory is cut into two main segments by a deep river which opens out in to a vast lake. In tandem, the grassy expanse and lake means all Pokémon species are comfortable battling, suffering no penalties to any move. On the other hand, the bland nature of the environment means that no Pokémon gains any extra advantages due to the terrain, either.

Awright, let's start out with Valeria.

(For those of you wondering why the thread is "Flik vs. Nyuu" as opposed to "Espeon vs. Nyuu", it's because I was using the nickname "Flik" on #tcod at the time this thread was posted.)

Re: Flik vs. Nyuu (ref: Squornshellous Beta

RIGHT I will be fluffy next post; first let's just try using the syntax properly! Conditional moves if she uses detect or protect! Espeon says drain punch can take either health or energy; I suppose I will take health so lapras will be less healthy.

I send out Foofoo! Bulk Up ~ Drain Punch/Feint ~ Aura Sphere/Feint

Re: Flik vs. Nyuu (ref: Squornshellous Beta

Alright, to begin with use Dragon Dance to increast both speed and attack against Foofoo. Afterwards, use sing to attempt to put them to sleep. Should sing succeed, use dream eater to attempt to restore health lost through drain punch - if they are awake then use Confuse Ray to stir up the battle a little bit.

Pre-round Notes
It's very rare that this referee refs a battle that's actually thought of in advance and in a nice normal location. This, however, is one of those rare times. The trainers have come to a grassland, with a nice big river and a lake. Flying in on League-issue Staraptor, the trainers take their places, as does the referee. One trainer sends out a Lapras - into the river - and the other a Mienfoo. The referee waves her flags idly, signalling for the battle to begin.

Round 1 Begin!

Both Foofoo and Valeria opt for a boost to begin the battle. Foofoo begins flexing and exercising his muscles, while Valeria begins a strange dance, swaying her head and rotating sedately in the water while singing a strange, hollow song. When they cease, both Pokémon feel considerably stronger, and Foofoo is even visibly larger.

Valeria lets out a loud, echoing squeal, which doesn't die away like most sounds but instead starts to deepen, becoming more and more pleasant to listen to. It soon becomes a strange, wailing song, and it seems to be having an odd effect on Foofoo: he can barely keep his eyes open, and by the time the song tails off, he's soundly asleep on the ground, curled up adorably.

With him asleep, Valeria is free to get on with her own attacks uninterrupted. Her eyes take on a pink glow as she extends her consciousness towards him, delving into his mind and giggling at the dream she finds (it's difficult to explain, but it involves a very large quantity of marshmalllows) before tearing it from his mind. He frowns in his sleep and twitches slightly, but seems otherwise unaffected; Valeria feels considerably healthier, though, and she knows that he's now considerably worse off than she is.

Alright, since it's asleep and (as far as I'm aware) can't use Snore or Sleep Talk, now is the ideal time to perform some stat boosts. Dragon Dance twice and then on the final round, use Dream Eater to restore lost energy. Should Foofoo wake up for any reason, use Hail, and if hail is in effect use Blizzard.

Round 2 Begin!

With her foe asleep, Valeria is free to move without fear of attack. Like the last round, she begins a strange and hollow song, the sound seemingly echoing from somewhere deeper than her throat. At the same time, she begins her swaying dance, swirling in the water and bobbing her head. She continues this dance for well over two minutes, and when she finally stops she feels much stronger. The song, meanwhile, takes even longer to fade away.

When the song finally dies away, she casts her mind out towards Foofoo, observing that this time his dream is considerably more mundane: something about failing a test or something. It's too boring to even pay attention to what it is. Instead, she simply tears it from his mind, feeling the relief as his energy is transferred to her.

Uhm, seeing as it's still asleep I suppose we could attempt to build up some more stats, before finally making an attempt to finish it off. Use Nightmare followed by Rain Dance and then Calm Mind. Should it wake up prematurely, use Waterfall and if Rain Dance is in effect, use Thunder.

Round 3 Begin!

Valeria knows her opponent is going to stay asleep for a while longer. So she casts her mind outwards once again, enveloping Foofoo's and observing the dreams within; this time, though, she doesn't remove anything but instead adds things, turning his light and happy dream into a horrible nightmare. Foofoo's face contorts into a frown, and he begins shivering and moaning in his sleep; he's clearly in considerable discomfort.

Which, for Valeria, is a good thing. Now, she thinks, maybe the weather could use a change. She looks up to the sky and lets out a loud cry, and suddenly clouds begin to form, obscuring the sun; they darken rapidly, and then a few drops of rain begin to fall. This, soo, quickly increases, turning into a veritable downpour within a few seconds. Valeria grins; now this is more like it.

And now for a boost, she thinks. She closes her eyes and retreats into her mind, blocking out all her unnecessary thoughts and distractions to leave herself with as few vulnerabilities as possible. This much done, she feels satisfied in her abilites as-is; she can clearly stand up to anything the Mienfoo can throw at her. Assuming he wakes up sometime soon.

Re: Flik vs. Nyuu (ref: Squornshellous Beta

Notes
- Man sleep is overpowered.

If I may interject, that's possibly because you're having it last too long. Even without Espeon potentially waking it up with extra damage, and even if mienfoo had access to sleep talk/snore, three/four/not sure exactly what you mean whole rounds of effectively no action is too much. I don't know if you feel like reconsidering right now because it might be tricky to change things, but in the future I would cut the duration of moderate sleep by... rather a lot, really.

Re: Flik vs. Nyuu (ref: Squornshellous Beta

Sleep should only be lasting more than five actions if the sleeping pokémon has been unlucky and the opponent hasn't been harassing it at all. Most of the time sleep is only going to hang around for three-four actions.

Re: Flik vs. Nyuu (ref: Squornshellous Beta

Okay, sorry. I thought I had seen other refs doing it this way. Guess I was mistaken. I shall remember this for the future.

Round 4 Begin!

As the round begins, Foofoo suddenly wakes up, his eyes snapping open. He leaps to his feet, and takes in the situation: clearly, the Lapras has gained an advantage during his slumber.

He closed his eyes, clenches his fist, and concentrates hard. He starts chanelling energy into his fist; the only outward sign of this is a faint glow on his fist. Valeria, meanwhile, tries to extend her mind into his; without the vulnerability that sleep creates, though, she can't get in. After a few minutes of failing to break into his mind, she gives up, opens her eyes and sees him, still concentrating, his fist glowing with a blinding light.

Suddenly, he leaps up. He tears towards Valeria at an asonishing speed. She attempts to swim to the other side of the river to get away, then turns back: Foofoo reaches the bank, jumps, and flies forward under his own momentum, smashing into Valeria with massive force. Some component of her neck makes a loud snapping noise, and Foofoo's fist is severely hurt; the impact, in fact, is so great, that because of Newton's third law Foofoo is physically hurled backwards, landing back on the bank with a thump. He grins - clearly, he's come off the better, looking at Valeria.

In an attempt to repeat the results, Foofoo begins the concentration technique once again. Luck isn't on his side, though: Valeria cloaks herself in a swirling curtain of water, then hurls herself out of the river and into him. She lands on him, crushing him under her considerable weight before dragging herself back to the river. Unfortunately, this has broken his focus, and he can't pull off the attack.

He's determined to try again, though. He closes his eyes and begins his meditative technique; Valeria, meanwhile, bagins manipulating the stormclouds in the air, and within a few seconds a massive lightning-bolt tears the sky apart and slams into Foofoo with what feels like a physical force. The round ends with him laying there, smoking and charred, and Valeria feeling she's made up for the Focus Punch.

Round 5 Begin!

Quickly, Valeria begins manipulating the water around her into a swirling coat. It thickens until it's a solid tube around her, and then she suddenly explodes out of the water. She hurtles towards Foofoo and slams down on him, crushing him beneath her weight. She quickly drags herself back to the water, not wishing to become dehydrated; she leaves behind Foofoo, pressed partway into the ground and struggling to get up.

Now safely back in the water, Valeria turns back to face him and then begins once again manipulating the clouds. Another lightning-bolt tears the sky apart and slams into Foofoo, flash-boiling the water coating him in an explosion that, conveniently, tears the ground apart around him, leaving him able to move once more. He immediately leaps up, ignoring the steam rising from him, and runs towards the river. He leaps into the air, his fist cloaked in energy; he soars over Valeria, dealing her a horrible punch to the head and, at the same time, draining her energy from her, siphoning it for his own use.

The very second he lands on the opposite shore, another lightning-bolt rends the sky to strike Foofoo. He growls, though he seems to be getting used to it (as much as you can get used to getting struck by lightning). He gets a good long run-up, then once more leaps over the river, dealing another draining punch to Valeria as he passes; he lands neatly on the other side, just as the round draws to an end.
