• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

If you're not familiar with the concept of interactive fiction, a.k.a. text adventures, this Wikipedia article explains what it is. Basically: an old form of computer game, where instead of having graphics you are given a description of where you are and do things by typing commands into a parser. These games aren't sold anymore, but people still write them for (usually free) download.

(If you don't know how to play IF games, the IF Archive has links to several sites that explain how.)

So, does anyone else play/read these? I played the original, Adventure, when I was younger, and I recently got back into them. It's an interesting medium, and there's just something inexplicably fun about playing a game this way.

Oh, I have one or two books like that. I find them pretty fun, and often way more involving than a book or, even sometimes, a modern video game!

God, this is really weird. I found out about these like two days ago. And now you start a thread. Simply amazing.

It's pretty cool. Interesting, for sure.

Ohhh, you mean Choose Your Own Adventure? I love those -- they're a little different from IF, because they list specific choices rather than letting you type what comes to mind, but still awesome~

I'm awful at these things. They can be fun, I suppose, but I wouldn't want to spend money on one anyway to be honest. :/
