Arena: Outside the Battle Arena

The battle takes place right outside the Battle Frontier's Battle Arena facility, out in the open air. The immediate area is covered in nicely manicured grass and a few flowers. The Arena building itself is surrounded on three sides by water and a small pond sits on the other side of the battlers, so water moves can be used and Water-types that need to swim can do so. The battlers cannot move away from the immediate area, so heading towards the plaza or another facility is forbidden. Maps of the general area can be found on this page.

Since this match is happening so close to the Arena, it seems such a shame not to follow Greta's rules... or, at least, a variation on them. As such, both battlers will send out their Pokémon and attack for three battle rounds (a total of 9 attacks per Pokémon) before the ref calls a halt. After the three rounds both Pokémon are recalled and unable to continue in the current battle, and their current health, energy and status are noted for later. Both trainers will then send out their next Pokémon and continue for the next three rounds. At the end (which should be nine total rounds), the health and energy of all Pokémon is totaled and whichever trainer has the highest score wins.

The following rules also apply:

-If a Pokémon has fainted, either due to HP loss OR energy loss, the battle stops right where it is (even if it has not yet been three rounds) and both Pokémon are recalled. Fainted Pokémon DO still count toward the final score, but as either their health or their energy is at 0% they won't add anywhere near as much.

-If, at the end of the three rounds, a battler is afflicted with a status condition, that condition detracts from their final score as follows:

* Paralyzed, Burned, Confused: -10 points
* Poisoned, Attracted: -15 points
* Asleep, Frozen: -20 points

If the Pokémon has more than one status condition, only the first one they were afflicted with detracts full points; all others afterwards only detract five, no matter what they are.

Experience is determined like this: all Pokémon get the usual 1 experience point for being sent into battle, and if one Pokémon actually knocks another out it will get the 1 experience point as normal. If neither Pokémon faints at the end of three rounds, the one with the lower score is considered knocked out for the purposes of experience and so the one with the higher score would get the extra 1 exp.

You're amazing. :)

I'll send out... hm, Ghost in the Machine, I think. Free Porygon2, woot.

Sendin' out my Meditite, Sentry. please don't get sapped please don't get sapped please don't get sapped

Start off with a Fake Out. If (at any point) Porygon decides to Protect, use Feint. Next, Rock Smash it- it may be weak, but hopefully we'll get the defense drop. End off with a Drain Punch.

Fake Out/Feint ~ Rock Smash/Feint ~ Drain Punch/Feint

Well, if we're going to get weenie-slapped no matter what we do there's no sense wasting any energy, so do nothing on the first action. The coming Rock Smash will sort of hurt and all, yeah, but that's cool--use Conversion. The attack guide says I can choose the type, too, so become a Ghost-type, 'cause you know Shadow Ball and can totally do that. Also it is tres fitting, yes? Lastly, my very ghostly Ghost, while Sentry tries and fails to drain health from you, nail him with Tri Attack and hope for freezing.

Do nothing ~ Conversion (Ghost-type) ~ Tri Attack

Round 1

Here we are, just outside the famous Battle Arena, home of Arena Tycoon Greta. From inside the building, the occasional 'Hi-Ya' can be heard. This is usually followed by someone screaming, or crying out in pain. However back to the battle.

One one side of the arena, Kratos tosses a Pokeball up and down in his hand. Eventually, he throws it out to the field, to reveal a Porygon. On the other side of the arena, Walker wastes no time in throwing his Pokeball, releasing his Meditite.

Meditite starts off by rushing towards Ghost in the Machine. However, the Porygon just floats, watching its opponent. Sentry fakes a kick towards the artifical creature, which causes a small amount of damage.

Next Sentry again charges at Ghost in the Machine, however this time, he chops the Porygon on the head. Ignoring the pain, Ghost in the Machine calls within itself, and summons the ghostly power, which it would usually use for moves like Shadow Ball, and allows the power to change its body. Ghost in the Machine turns a dark purple, and becomes slightly transparent.

While a little unnerved at the sudden change in colour-scheme, Sentry follows his orders, and allows a light green aura to surround his fist. He then swung his fist at Ghost in the Machine. However, much to his surprise, the fist hits the edge of the Porygon, and passes straight through the odd creature. Meanwhile, three balls of energy form around Ghost in the Machine's beak. Simultaneously, fire, thunder, and ice combined into a twisting beam of energy, which was aimed straight at Sentry. Unlike his own attack, this move actually hit the Meditite, and sent him flying backwards.

Hm, well. Very well done, Ghost. Now, let's see.

Use Icy Wind, Charge Beam and Shadow Ball in that order. If Sentry protects/detects then change that action as follows: replace Icy Wind with Agility, Charge Beam with Sharpen and Shadow Ball with Double Team (two clones). If at any time he tries to inflict a status condition on you (Toxic, Swagger, whatever), reflect it back with Magic Coat.

Icy Wind/Agility/Magic Coat ~ Charge Beam/Sharpen/Magic Coat ~ Shadow Ball/Double Team/Magic Coat

Start off with a Rock Tomb- if our speed goes down, we're taking theirs with it! Next, Rock Tomb if it missed last time, but otherwise, use Psycho Cut. End off with a Protect.

Round 2

Meditite starts off by stomping his right foot on the ground, and large boulders erupt out of the ground near Ghost, before falling on him. In response, it spews small ice shards from in front of it's beak. This shards hit Sentry, leaving him feeling a little chilly.

Meditite's arm then begins to glow a dark purple, before he swiped, sending a dark purple blade of psychic energy at Ghost. The attack hit and Ghost let out a little noise. Ghost's body then began to spark with electricity. It then forced the electrically energy out in a large beam which hit Sentry.

Sentry begins his next move, creating a green sphere around himself. However, Ghost instead begins to move at a high speed, leaving 2 identical copies of itself. The three Porygons just looked at Sentry as his barrier faded.

Okay Sentry, let's get rid of those clones and get our ability to punch this dataduck with Foresight. Now, I don't think Foresight is stopped by Protect, but just in case it is and Ghost tries that, use Feint. In fact, if Ghost ever Protects, use Feint. Next, spam Force Palm for the rest of the round because 30% paralysis chance is delicious.

Foresight/Feint ~ Force Palm/Feint x2

Go ahead and Protect, then. Seriously, without Foresight it's not like Feint will hurt you. Then just spam Shadow Ball for the rest of the round for massive STAB damage while he tries to use Force Palm in vain. Hell, even if some sort of witchery causes Foresight to work, just spam Shadow Ball regardless. It's not like Force Palm will be super-effective anyway, and as long as you aren't fully paralyzed I think the damage output should give you a very cozy lead.

Protect ~ Shadow Ball ~ Shadow Ball

Round 3

Sentry begins to run towards Ghost, who sets up a transparent energy shield in front of itself. However this move was a trick, and Sentry stands still. When Ghost's attack fades again, he charges towards it, and attempts to chop the Porygon, however, once again, Sentry is unable to hit Ghost.

Sentry, once again runs towards Ghost, and attempts to hit its head with his palm. However, just as before, Sentry flies straight through the Porygon, who has begun forming an unstable ball of ethereal energy, in front of his beak. When the ball is fully charged, Ghost fires it towards Sentry. Ghost's attack actually hits the opposing Pokemon, and sends Sentry back a few meters.

Sentry, who is getting very angry at this point, begins to charge at the Porygon one last time. He repeats his previous attack, and his palm touches Ghost's head, before continuing through its ethereal body. Ghost, happy at this, begins to squawk/beep/whatever noise Porygon make to laugh. Ghost charges up another Shadow Ball, before hurling the ball of ghostly energy at the Meditite. Once again, the attack hits, knocking Sentry back a few more meters.

RIGHT just to irritate you (maybe) and get a free Porygon2 out of this I'mma go use Perl (Porygon, X, Trace).

Start this off with an Agility, then start spamming Tri Attack. If Reshef Protects, chill.

Agility ~ Tri Attack/chill x2

I was expecting this. Is okay, we both get free Porygon2. But first:

Start with a Light Screen to soften those upcoming Tri Attacks, and just about anything else it tries to hurt you with. Then use Toxic (why this works on inorganic creatures I do not know but who cares!), and then attack with Discharge.

Should Tri Attack inflict a status condition on you that impedes your movement and you actually cannot move for an action, use Charge and then Leer in that order.

Round 4

Each trainer recalls their Pokemon, before replacing them. Kratos selects Reshef, his male Shinx, while Walker selects Perl, his own Porygon.

Reshef begins by focusing on creating a wall of light before himself. Meanwhile Perl begins to move around the area quickly.

The last move seems to have given Perl a speed boost, which it uses to use its attack faster than its opponent. A triangular beam of fire, ice and electricity is fired from in front of Perl's beak. The Light Screen prevents some the the move from hitting Reshef, but some still passes through the barrier. However, Reshef is left with small patches of ice around his body. Since he is unable to move properly, he charges high amounts of electrical energy within his body, which causes some of the ice to melt at a quicker rate.

Perl once again fires a triangular beam at Reshef, and the blow is once again lessened by the Light Screen. This time however, Reshef isn't left with any extra effects this time. Reshef finishes off by leering at Perl, who's eyes widen a little, as the last of the ice melts from Reshef's body.

Just out of curiosity, if Reshef is frozen, then why isn't it included in his status like most other status ailments?

Reading the description, it looks like Reshef isn't frozen any longer.

Try another Toxic, followed by, hm... Discharge twice. Setting up Magic Coat should happen before you attack, so if Perl does use Magic Coat then use Hidden Power. If you're paralyzed, poisoned or burned, replace the second Discharge with Facade, and if you can't attack at all, just chill.

Toxic/Hidden Power/chill ~ Discharge/chill ~ Discharge/Facade/chill

First off, use Conversion to turn into a Steel type so Toxic won't affect you. Next, use Double Team, shoot for around three clones. End it off by chilling.

Round 4

Perl starts off by glowing, and when the light fades, Perl is colored light silver. Reshef, noticing that his opponent hasn't used Magic Coat, upchucks a large glob of purple ooze. The ooze hits Perl, but just slides off its sleek metallic surface.

Happy that it still hasn't taken any damage, Perl once again moves around the arena at high speed, however when it comes to a stop, there are 4 Porygon, instead of just the one. Reshef, stares at the four Porygon, then charges and then releases blue electricity. A rouge form of electrically energy hits one of the other Porygon, making it disappear. The overall attack however, seems to hit the right Porygon, as this one doesn't disappear.

Perl, after being hit for the first time, just relaxes. Reshef however, now that he has found his target, fires more blue electricity, which once again damages Perl. Reshef just gives a little smile at his accomplishment, while Perl whirs menacingly.

I thought that since the first Discharge is so powerful, that it would be hard to focus all the energy towards one target, and so some electricity spread out, and hit one of the clones.
There was nothing to say that Perl and the clones should rearrange them selves if they need to.
