Melodic Harmony vs. Omskivar

Aletheia

King Koopa
2vs2 single
DQ: 10 days
Damage Cap: 30%
Banned Moves: OHKO's, suicide moves, Sunny Day, direct healing moves
Arena: Midnight Island

The contenders will be battling on a circular island roughly 50 feet in diameter. It is night, so Sunny Day will have no effect, as there is no sunlight to intensify. The "outer ring" is all a smooth, sandy beach while the "inner circle" (a circle in the center of the island that is 30 feet in diameter) is made of a dense forest. There is a full moon and the ocean is gently lapping against the shores. There is one stream, roughly five feet across, that cuts the island exactly in half. Does that mean it's actually two islands?

Each round, there is a 10% chance of one of the following events occurring:
-If near or within the forest, a Vileplume may accidentally release a bit of Stun Spore, causing mild paralysis.
-If near or within the forest, a Ghost-type Pokémon may suddenly become visible, frightening the battler it appeared closer to, causing a flinch for that one action.
-Within the forest, either Pokémon may stumble across and eat an Oran Berry, healing 5% HP.
-Within the forest, either Pokémon may stumble across and eat a Leppa Berry, healing 5% energy.
-A cloud may cover the moon, bathing the island in darkness for a whole round.
-When on the beach, Dwebble or Crustle may unearth themselves and poke the nearest Pokémon, dealing 1% or 2% damage respectively.

Notes: Earthquake doesn't work on the beach; mud-using moves only work near the ocean or stream, or if Rain Dance is in effect; SolarBeam has 90 base power instead of 120.
Only Basic-stage Pokémon allowed.

I don't mind an abbreviation; Harmony or MH would be fine =)

Anyway, I'll send out Sekitan Iki, or Kita for short =p

First ASB battle squeeeee!

Also, if it helps, you can call me Omski if'n ya like. :)

Anyway, let's go with Louie, you've got the whole fighting-stance thing going on and you're gonna need the most training. Start off with a Fake Out. If they Protect, set up with a Swords Dance. If Fake Out hits, take advantage of the flinch time to Swords Dance; otherwise, go for a Stone Edge; if the environment prevents this, use Acrobatics. If you haven't Stone Edge'd yet, do it now; if you have, or if the environment prohibits it, Dig and wait for the next move.

Fake Out/Swords Dance~Swords Dance/Stone Edge/Acrobatics~Stone Edge/Dig (stay underground)

Now, let's see if I still remember how to battle =(

Kita, you should flinch during the first action, so um! Just sit there I guess. While Louie is dancing around you can spit some Toxic at him, then Protect against Stone Edge. If for some reason he Digs instead, you can use Dragon Dance.

Do nothing ~ Toxic ~ Protect / Dragon Dance

BATTLE START!
The mostly uninhabited Midnight Island today (er, tonight) has its serenity disturbed by two trainers and a referee who have come to do battle. The dark blue sky hangs over them, and a large portion of the island is bathed in moonlight. The beach on which they are currently standing has many rocks of varying sizes, along with some wild pokémon, strewn about, and a dense forest is before them. Eager to battle, the trainers send out their pokémon; Omskivar selects a mienfoo, while Melodic Harmony sends out a charmander.

The referee's whistle signals the beginning of the first round of what will hopefully be a terrific battle, and Louie is eager to start it off. He leaps forward at his opponent and beats his paws together, releasing a shockwave that passes through the charmander. Kita suddenly feels... frozen in place. Not literally, of course, but the mienfoo has stopped her right in her tracks. Then again she wouldn't know what to do even if she could move.

Satisfied, Louie steps back and begins to spin around with blinding speed. Though it greatly amplifies his fighting spirit, he really wishes he had something sharp to cut the air with. That would this maneuver so much cooler. Kita, who has since recovered from her shock, ponders her next move. Well, a little poison certainly wouldn't hurt. Trying hard to contain her disgust, the charmander creates a sizeable amount of purple bile in her mouth and then spits it at her (still dancing) foe. Instantly, the mienfoo ceases his movement as he realizes he now has some horribly sticky purple stuff on him. Soon, however, it disappears, seeping into his skin and making him feel unbelievably nauseous.

Kita just knows she's going to be attacked. After all, one doesn't just spit poisonous goo at someone and then not expect payback. A blue orb of pure energy appears around her, and she snickers deviously as she sees the mienfoo eying the rocks around him. Louie growled in anger. That lizard was going to pay. He selects the largest rocks he can reasonably handle and lifts them up, then flings them at the charmander before him; just after he does so, he notices the protective orb around her, and watches in horror as it effortlessly absorbs the rocks. What a waste. To make matters worse, the nausea washes over him again- and if he knows anything about poisoning, it's that it can only get worse.

Great job, Kita! Now, I want you to start off with Scary Face, then use Attract and wrap it up with an Aerial Ace. If at any time Louie uses Protect or Detect, use Dragon Dance. If you're to be hit with Stone Edge or Dig, use Counter.

Alright, Louie, that Toxic hurt. Hurt back with Aura Sphere. When Charmander Attracts you, use Me First; if that won't work for whatever reason, use Safeguard. After that, use Aura Sphere again.

Though he had failed to land his last attack, Louie felt quite confident his next move would be successful. The mienfoo brought his paws together and began forming a blue orb of pure spirit. He cringed a little as he was reminded of his opponent's earlier Protect. When it had grown to a reasonable size, he launched it at Kita. The charmander took the hit as best as she could; a reaction would ruin her next maneuver. With chilling suddenness, she raised her eyes and glared at Louie with a look of determined anger, a look that drove fear into the mienfoo; perhaps he should take it easy around this lizard.

Kita is quite pleased by this, though she hopes her Attract won't be too difficult to pull off considering what she has just done. She swaggers up to Louie, and though he naturally tries to shy away, she calmly places an arm on his shoulder and smiles at him cutely. And suddenly all the mienfoo can focus on is the way the charmander's tail illuminates the night and eyes. So what if she'd just given him the most unnerving death stare ever? How could he not be disarmed by that look of pure contentment? And besides, women were the most incomprehensible things in the universe- or so he'd been told, at least. Given that, he should probably protect himself a little- just in case Kita decided to actually try to burn him. And so Louie forms a orb of energy around himself- and shudders as he is reminded, again, of his botched Stone Edge. Well, hopefully Kita won't do that anymore- he's starting to think of her as rather sweet.

Unfortunately for him, the charmander has chosen that exact moment to attack, leaping into the air and slamming into the mienfoo. For a moment, she glides through the air and quickly lands. She cringes; handling Flying energy always makes her queasy for some reason. Meanwhile, a heartbroken Louie watches Kita, expecting to see a look of confidence, even gloating. Why, he feels like he should just hit her with a Sphere again, that doublecrossing vermin! And indeed, he begins forming another blue orb of glowing energy, when he catches her glancing at him with a worried, even pleading, look. The mienfoo blushes and lets the projectile dissipate. What was he thinking? The nausea hits him again, stronger now, but he barely even notices; he just has to see if he's still on good terms with Kita.

Kita, though glad to not have felt that last Aura Sphere, isn't all too happy- she's suddenly feeling quite tired and the battle's only just begun. Well, at least she knows exactly what she'll be doing after it's all over... but for now, a little nap should suffice. The charmander lies down on the soft sand and closes her eyes- and just in case Louie is watching, she twists her face into a hurt, heartsick expression that's sure to shake him. That ought to teach him, throwing orbs at her like that! The mienfoo in question is in fact watching, and the look on Kita's face has just confirmed his fears- she had caught him preparing an attack. His first battle is turning out to be much more complicated than he expected; now he's caught up in his opponent's afflictions... maybe he can impress her a little. Once she's done with her nap and he's regained his composure, he begins to intently flex his biceps while locking eyes with Kita; the charmander, meanwhile, suddenly brightens up and giggles at his antics.

...and though she's glad to see he's still under her little spell, one can't win a battle just by confusing their opponent. And since Louie's just shown off his muscles, what better way to return the love than with a show of her own? The charmander gets back up and stretches out her arms, then begins to spin wildly, her claws cutting the air. Hopefully they'll be able to cut something else soon, but of course that mienfoo doesn't need to know. Unfortunately for her, Louie remembers having performed that exact same dance- and knows just what its purpose is. Well, if that's how it's gonna be... the mienfoo cocks his head up at her and grins, then begins to speak. You must think yourself the greatest, mademoiselle. Why, you couldn't defeat me even if I did find you even remotely attractive. That last remark hurts him a bit, but he reminds himself he needs to focus on the battle. Surely there will be time to make ammends later.

Kita is not happy. She had him just where she wanted him, and now he's messing her whole routine up with his snide remarks. Maybe it was time to show that damned Frenchman just what she could do. A flame bloomed, engulfing her right paw, and she lashed out at Louie with it. Though he doesn't exactly enjoy it, the blow causes the mienfoo's grin to broaden; a proper quarrel! Now he truly can feel her. Her efforts seem more and more earnest, however; perhaps she was starting to like him? He can't believe he's actually entertaining the thought; it's time to make his move! Gathering up strength- emotional as well as physical, though he hates to admit it- he tosses Kita into the air, then slams the startled charmander down into the ground. She whines in disbelief; that actually hurt! Louie, meanwhile, is feeling Kita's poison at the worst possible time- the mienfoo is finding that setting his priorities straight is unpleasantly difficult, and that queasy feeling in his stomach isn't helping his thinking process. Perhaps it is only fitting that at that time, a large cloud obscures the moonlight the two have been fighting under.

Thanks, but honestly I have no idea how functional (or not) my aunt's computer is. I can try to call my cousin tonight to ask, though =/
The darkness decreases accuracy, but a Pokemon's location is revealed by light and/or sound. Poor Kita - her tail flame just lights up the night =/

Now, Kita, I suppose all you can do is spam Aerial Ace for a bit, since it's dark and all. Counter any Dig or Stone Edge on the third action, and if Louie stat boosts then you use Dragon Dance.

Louie, you're doing really well. There's not much you can do about those Aerial Aces, so go for a Detect right off the bat. Then, spam Aura Sphere. It should hit even in the dark. If by some chance an Aerial Ace doesn't hit (which you'll be able to tell, since you're moving last), Chill.

As yet another round begins, Louie has an uncomfortable feeling he should be doing something- protecting himself from his foe's forthcoming attack. But... she looks so hurt, Surely she isn't in any condition to actually fight? And besides, her tail-flame looks even prettier now that the island is completely dark. Kita is still aggravated by the mienfoo's earlier taunt, and though she hasn't gotten any more comfortable with Flying energy, she won't pass up a chance to hurt him. The charmander unleashes a flying kick that would make even Louie jealous, hitting him squarely in the face. Suddenly trusting his opponent's emotional distress doesn't seem quite so smart.

As she lands, Kita feels a much-welcome boost of confidence- why did she ever let him bother him? In any case those Flying attacks seem to be working quite well. She launches another gliding kick at the mienfoo who is unprepared for it. It seems quite obvious the charmander is much more willing to fight than he thought. Very well. Louie forms a glowing blue orb of aura in his paws and launches it at Kita with not a semblance of guilt. The sphere hits her rather nicely in the chest.

And though there is pain involved, the lizard is quite relieved to finally be done with all that; now she doesn't have to pretend to actually like him and act hurt and whatnot. Her commands aren't making her so happy; sure, it's dark and the mienfoo likes Flying even less than her, but... urgh. She decides to transform the hatred into action, launching yet another kick at Louie. Her foe grimly takes the hit; he really wishes she would stop with those Flying attacks. Nothing to do but fight back. And... looks like he'll be making another Sphere. How is he supposed to show off his fighting skills like this? The mienfoo unceremoniously launches a blue orb of his aura at the glowing flame before him. Nausea hits him again, stronger this time, but at least it isn't accompanied by feelings of doubt and confusion.

  • Omski, I do believe Aerial Ace (along with similar moves) has the magical ability to never miss. Ever. And uh, Omskivar, please do post in the Absence Sheet next time before you go on any planned absences. I would have DQ'd you, had I not taken so long :\ Derp. Must improve thread skimming skills.
  • Fair enough, Harmony. I'll hold you by it :T
  • Kita's first Aerial Ace caused Louie's attraction to drop in severity, and the second caused it to fade away completely
  • Louie's Safeguard faded after the first action, Kita's taunted status after the second
  • I'm reffing the cloud-induced darkness as if it were a generic weather condition; thus, two more rounds until the sky clears.
  • Speaking of which, I've arbitrarily decided that the darkness reduces accuracy by 10%, but since all the moves used cannot miss, this figure never came into play. Does it sound reasonable to you guys?
  • The pokes are still in the outer ring

I did post in the DQ thread. There are more planned absences that are in there, for your reference.

Bad luck, Louie. Just bad luck. I don't like Flying moves, so if any of those come up, Detect if it's the first or third action, Protect if it's the second. If that's impossible, keep spamming Aura Sphere until the third action, when you can see again. This is where you should go for the Toxic; if you're taunted and you can't Toxic, use Hi Jump Kick.

I think I did this right.

Kita sighs at her commands. How exactly is she supposed to seduce him now? She's already tried the "hurt and innocent" gimmick, but maybe if she tries something more direct... and so the charmander slithers up to Louie, wraps her tail- however short- around him, making sure the flame doesn't burn him, and locks eyes with him. Then she smiles and forces herself to look as coquettish and willing as she possibly can- and by Arceus, she's really not liking her first competitive battle. Louie, meanwhile, is completely caught off his guard- so perhaps she did still like him. They'd have to get this whole mess cleared up later on, but for now maybe he should take it easy on her to improve his standing a little. Except first he has to make another Aura Sphere. Sigh. He forms a glowing orb between his paws, now smaller than before- both from Kita's efforts and his own lack of enthusiasm- and it flies towards and hits her.

Satisfied, the charmander decides she's earned a much-needed nap, curling up on the beach. It is rather nice, knowing that she can still have her way with him, but then again why would she expect any different? She's been dominating from the very beginning. Meanwhile, her opponent is patiently waiting for her to finish resting- he still has to launch yet another sphere at her, but at the very least he should be polite about it. No one appreciates a rude awakening. Once she's opened her eyes, the orb he's been preparing is sent flying towards her. Kita groans, just before the projectile sinks into her.

The charmander, incidentally, is also growing tired of the mienfoo's repetitiveness- she's kind of hoping he'll start using some attacks that can actually miss. Unfortunately, her tail has that stupid flame on it, meaning only she suffers from the lack of moonlight. Time to remedy that. Kita opens her mouth and releases a thick black stream of smoke, which forms a cloud around Louie. Louie groans in exasperation; now he can't see and that horrible smell of smoke is filling his nostrils. At least he's finally diversifying, even if it is with a move his foe's used before. A thick bile begins forming at the back of his throat, and he spits it where Kita should technically be- unlike his previous experience with the stuff, it doesn't stick around for too long as the lizard's scales absorb it. Lucky. It is then the poison surges through his own body, continually getting stronger. At least he isn't the only one suffering from it; as the charmander feels a sickly feeling that she knows will be all to familiar to her in just a while, she is forced to reconsider her previous wishes.

Ref notes:

  • One more round until the sky clears.
  • The Smokescreen created by Kita is completely surrounding Louie and will dissipate in two rounds' time.
  • So, uh. Neither of you commented on my decision to lower accuracy by 10% as a result of the darkness. I'm going to go ahead and use that number unless you have any further objections.
  • Speaking of accuracy, Omskivar- you seem to be under the impression that Louie cannot see his target quite as well. Given Harmony's earlier post, she appears to be okay with the idea of mons' physiology enhancing their visibility in this context (in this case, Kita's flame). So no accuracy decrease for your mienfoo when aiming at Kita from that.
  • However, the Smokescreen does still affect Louie.
  • The pokes are in the outer ring
  • Harmony commands next

Awww, I'm sorry, Kita. So, since these Aura Spheres can't miss, how about you Dig to avoid it? Stay underground and Chill for the second action, then wait a bit on the third, till you think Louie has made his move, and attack.

Unless he uses stat-raising moves, in that case just use a one-turn Dig, then Aerial Ace. If he Protects or Detects on the last actions, stay underground (if you're still underground) and Swords Dance.

Dig (down) / Dig (attack) ~ Chill (underground) / Aerial Ace ~ Dig (attack) / Aerial Ace / Swords Dance
