• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Should my website have a splash page?

My website is nearly finished and i'm very excited about this! I only have about a week left to go before i'll be finished.

I have one little dilemma though, and if you read the title than you can probably guess.

Should my website have a splash page?

Pros of splash page
  1. It could have a music player that plays music from the splash page if people wanted music (To reflect old fan-websites)
  2. The whole thing is a load of nostalgia (well for everyone but me who never really saw many personal pokémon websites :C) so that's good. It definitely emulates old pokémon sites.
  3. And i'd get to design some splashes.
Cons
  1. It could get annoying and repetitive.
  2. Many people dislike splash pages.
So please input your opinion. What do you think?

Contrary to Butterfree's advice on her site (sorry!), I don't find it irritating if the splash page is just a pretty picture and a link saying "Enter" or whatever. It only takes a few seconds to move past in that case. Splash pages only become seriously irritating if they force you to wait for a long amount of time before reaching the main site. Animations are a common culprit.

So I say, go for a splash page! As long as you make it easy to click past for repeat visitors.

Automatically playing music is something I would avoid. Linking people to it is fine, though.

I was certainly not planning to add an animation and as it is now, my site takes very short to load. So i think it would be at most one or two seconds. So i guess splash page it is!

Does having a music player you can hypothetically turn off count?

Hmm... i could try, but the way my splash page is set up it's my default home-page kind of thing, and then you click on a button and it takes you to the Actual home page. I don't currently have any code that could do this nor do i know how. But that is a consideration.
