Blastoise vs. Zora of Termina

Blastoise recalls King's English, and it doesn't take him long to pick a second pokémon to send out. He hurls another pokéball out over the bridge, and it splits open in midair to release Coronada the misdreavus. Coronada glances around the arena, taking in the sight of her opponent, the lava seething far below, the little cave home to an alakazam-hermit--and her new duds. Coronada weaves and dips in the air as she tries to get a good look at the wizard's robes she's been given for this battle. Their deep blood-red color clashes a bit with her pink hair and necklace, but they're quite stylish nonetheless, with subtle traceries of magical symbols embroidered on them in dark thread. A little heavy, but Coronada somehow feels stronger just wearing them. She turns a smirk on Hera. The little ralts won't know what hit her!

Coronada begins charging as shadow ball, a spinning blob of black energy forming in the air before her. It's much larger than the ones King's English could summon, and when Coronada launches it into Hera the ralts is knocked completely off her feet. For a moment she can only lie on the bridge and be grateful that her former opponent wasn't able to conjure anything quite so strong, but Hera forces herself back to her feet despite her exhaustion. If she wants to avoid further shadow ball misery, she's got to work fast.

The ralts' hands trace intricate patterns in the air before her as she chants a spell, sealing the attacks she's used in battle thus far out of Coronada's mind. Indeed, as the misdreavus goes to start another shadow ball attack, she finds herself completely at a loss for how to do so. She knows she knows how to make a shadow ball, but the knowledge seems just out of reach, sealed away behind the barrier of Hera's imprison. While Coronada shrieks in frustration, Hera summons electrical energy, her body briefly flaring with crackling power before she throws and arm out in Coronada's direction and catches the ghost in a fizzing thunder wave.

Coronada gasps as her body solidifies uncomfortably, her gaseous form suddenly seeming heavy and unwieldy. While she struggles against the paralysis, Hera draws on the last of her strength, gagging up a foul mixture of toxins. Catching a handful of viscous purple fluid, she hurls it in Coronada's direction. The ralts' fatigue seems to have affected her aim, however, and the toxic attack fails to reach its target, instead landing on the bridge with a wet smack. Coronada observes the toxic eating its way through the boards with open disgust, while Hera sways where she stands, trying to stave off the darkness engulfing her vision. It's no good--she's just too exhausted to continue. The ralts sinks to the ground in a dead faint, leaving her opponent paralyzed and annoyed but otherwise unharmed.

Well someone called an Emergency Ref, didn't he? Would've done it myself, but... :l
Thank you, Ms. Negrek, for picking this up.

Alright, Cyndra! Let's see some action!

(ps Blastoise you need to ref me and FMC's battle >:C)

(shaddap I have had homework I will do it this weekend)

ah a cyndaquil whatever will we do oh noes wait you are paralyzed when did that happen?

If she's not doing anything directly harming use Heal Bell until you've used it once. Use Power Gem barring that, unless you can't hit her in which case replace it with Screech.

ALRIGHT.

I want you to use Will-O-Wisp until she gets burned, but if she Heal Bells that away, use Toxic, AND IF SHE SHOULD HAPPEN TO TRY POWER GEM OR SCREECH, use Protect.

Hera is pulled back to her pokéball in a stream of white light, and Coronada bobs impatiently in place, waiting to see what puny pokémon she gets to beat up next. And the pokémon Zora chooses is rather puny--though hardly that much smaller than Coronada, the ghost hardly being a titan herself. Cyndra the cyndaquil materializes across the bridge from the restless ghost. She doesn't pay much attention to her opponent, instead plucking at the heavy robes she's materialized in. Like Coronada's, they are red stitched with black, though these have holes cut in the back of them to accommodate the flame patches on the cyndaquil's back. Cyndra isn't terribly impressed--though the robes fit her well, she still finds them cumbersome and in poor taste. Coronada, meanwhile, is a bit irritated that her opponent seems more interested in investigating her clothes than in cowering before her vastly superior opponent.

Though her robes slow her down a bit, Cyndra is still faster than her paralyzed opponent. The fire patches on her back flare up with unnatural blue flames, and Cyndra sneezes out a ghostly will-o-wisp. The blue and purple ball of flame zigzags through the air, at times appearing as though it will miss Coronada entirely. In the end it strikes the misdreavus, who is humming something under her breath, and chars a bit of her ectoplasm to a painful brittleness.

The burn isn't really that big a worry, though. Coronada's humming grows louder as chilly fog rises around her, coalescing into the shape of a bell hanging unsupported in the air in front of her face. As Cyndra watches, the bell begins to toll, its tones grave-deep and booming. Though the unearthly sound sends a shiver down Cyndra's spine, Coronada is rejuvenated by its hollow knell. Powerful soundwaves ripple through her insubstantial body, shivering the status conditions right out of her. As the bell fades from existence, the low rumble of its tolling following shortly thereafter, the misdreavus has been shaken back to full health.

As soon as she's done reveling in her restored health, Coronada turns her attention back to Cyndra. For a few moments the battlers eye one another uncertainly. Cyndra is the first to balk, throwing up a protect screen to shield herself from any attacks Coronada might send her way. The ghost lets out a long, piercing wail, the sound of nails on chalkboard amplified to ten times its usual volume, but no sound can penetrate Cyndra's defense. The cyndaquil remains crouched behind her protect, starting to sweat with the strain of holding it in place, but the alternative is, potentially, getting pummeled by a bunch of energy-imbued boulders.

Coronada watches for some sign that Cyndra will release her protect, but the cyndaquil seems determined to leave it in place. The misdreavus' patience is rapidly spent, and she lets out another screech, this one undeniably a bit high-pitched and frustrated. As before, is has no effect whatsoever.

...Wha-
Oh. Sorry.

See if you can get in another Will-O-Wisp in in any of the turns, especially after she Heal Bells again, if she does. Forgo the protect if she tries to do anything, and use Flamethrower or Flame Wheel in retaliation. Kill it with fire, after all.

Coronada shoots Cyndra another spiteful look before starting in on her next attack. At least the cyndaquil's defensive play will give her the chance to set up a little support. The ghost drifts back and forth in the air, at first slowly and seemingly at random, but gradually working up to what proves to be a frenetic and intricate dance. The misdreavus bounces and sweeps side to side, her robes billowing dramatically around her as she goes. Darkness falls over the arena as clouds gather in the sky above, and in a matter of seconds, a steady rain has begun to fall.

Cyndra lets go of her protect with a sigh of relief. The rain immediately puts a damper on her happiness, but Cyndra isn't interested in looking a gift horse in the mouth. Once again her back flares up with ghostly blue flames, which seem impervious to the rain, and breathes out a will-o-wisp. Coronada is settling down out of her rain dance, moving much more slowly now, and the ball of ghostfire grazes her side, charring a long strip of ectoplasm as it goes.

This time there is no heal bell forthcoming to remove the burn, and Coronada grits her teeth against its stinging. The rain helps to numb the pain a little, but Coronada still moves gingerly to prevent aggravating it as much as is possible. Turning her eyes heavenwards, she sends a pulse of ions racing towards the clouds overhead. Moments later a bolt of lightning streaks back down the path thus formed, striking Cyndra with a brilliant flash and a deafening roar. When battlers and trainers are able to see properly again, they witness Cyndra lying on her stomach on the bridge, her short hair puffed out in all directions and her body twitching now and again from residual charge.

The thunder was a harsh blow, but Cyndra is far from down for the count. She forces herself back to her feet, feeding fire energy to her flame patches until they again roar to life, this time with normal fire. The cyndaquil opens her mouth and sprays a powerful flamethrower at Cyndra. The rain weakens the attack somewhat, but a lucky shot manages to strike mainly the misdreavus' burned, side, worsening the charred patch. Coronada hisses, eyes flashing dangerously, and prepares to retaliate.

The gemstones strung around Coronada's neck glow a vibrant, bloodred color as she raises power within them. When at last the gathering energies are too great to contain, Coronada releases them as an intense ruby beam. The power gem knocks Cyndra back a pace, and the little cyndaquil suffers beneath the rock energy as badly as she did from the thunder. Nevertheless, she is quick to respond with another flamethrower. This one has somewhat less favorable results than the last, but even considering the effects of the rain, it is nothing to sneeze at.

Let's try some invisibility and incorporeality, okay? Then she can't aim! If you can only do one, then go with invisibility. Fire off some Power Gems, but Chill if she Protects. If Power Gem won't work for some other reason then use Shadow Ball.

Coronada would be quite happy to phase out, leaving Cyndra without a target and giving herself the perfect opportunity to creep up on the cyndaquil unawares. Unfortunately, she's hindered by one rather bulky obstacle: the mage robes currently draped over her body, which will no doubt refuse to join her in incorporeality no matter how hard she tries to drag them along. Though the ghost herself is quick to fade from sight, the red robes continue to hang suspended in midair. The effect, while creepy, does little to fool Cyndra about where her opponent is lurking.

Frustrated, Coronada follows her vanishing act with a blast of ruby-colored light that strikes Cyndra square in the face, causing her to squeak and curl up in pain as pure rock power washes over her. Once the hateful light has dissipated, the cyndaquil untucks her snout and points it up at the bobbing robe before her, bile dribbling out of her mouth as she prepares a toxic attack. With a nasty wet wretching noise, she spits a gobbet of powerful toxins at Coronada, striking the invisible ghost with little difficulty.

Coronada lets out an eerie wail, the poison starting to burn its way through her essence, and retaliates with another shining power gem. It is hard for Cyndra to think past the wall of burning light, but once the attack has faded, she finds herself with something of a dilemma. It seems her only option is to use toxic again, since Coronada has neither chilled nor lobbed a shadow ball her way--and yet, what good will that do? The cyndaquil can only hope that her trainer knows what she's doing as she prepares another toxic attack. The gobbet of slime that she spews on Coronada does enrage the vain ghost a little further, but worsens her poisoning only the slightest bit. Coronada's mood is improved, too, as the imprison spell laid over her finally fails, leaving her in full control of her abilities once again.

Another brilliant red power gem is in store for Cyndra, who is rapidly deteriorating under the repeated bursts of rock energy, enhanced by the power of Coronada's still-quite-visible mage robes. Cyndra is left shivering with exertion as she tips her snout up to fire off another toxic attack. This one ends up flying wide, and Cyndra slumps back to all fours, panting and hanging her head as she does her best to recover from a taxing round. Coronada, meanwhile, is grinning broadly to herself, though the sting of her burns and the leeching toxic do dampen her spirits a little.
