Arylett Dawnsborough vs Chief Zackrai

After recalling Alterra and realising she's actually going to miss her (worthless) little presents, Arylett pulls her final Pokéball from her belt, releasing Valight into the ring and urging him not to let her down. The Dratini finishes materialising from the burst of light emitted by his Pokéball and takes a look at his opponent. He has to fight that thing? That silly little mushroom? That's no match for a mighty dragon like him! Then again, it does look pretty fired up and vicious. Maybe he should tread just a little carefully.

First and foremost, Valight decides he's not at all keen on breathing in any of Caza's spores or venom or cooties or whatever other icky stuff he has ready to blast all over him. However, with the energy he inherited from Ptah, the fungus is just a little too quick for him. He quickly fires a cloud of tiny spores into the air, which flutter over to Valight, who is still busy trying to get his energy shield set up to block them. Before he can begin to do so, he breathes a lungful of the spores, which waste no time in inflitrating his bloodstream. Within moments, he feels drowsy, and seconds later the spores reach his brain and take root, forcing the dragon to fall into a deep slumber. Caza gives a devious chuckle, but unfortunately for him, Valight isn't quite as incapacitated as he'd hoped. The Dratini tosses uncomfortably in his sleep, muttering something incoherently, and Caza becomes curious and shuffles over to see what all the commotion is. As he approaches, the sleeping Valight suddenly gives a tremendous sneeze right in his direction, and the Shroomish staggers away with a grumble of disgust. Unbeknownst to him, though, the sneeze ejected a sizable quantity of residual spores from Valight's lungs. Before he knows it, his own biological weapon works against him, putting him into an imprenetrable slumber just like Valight's.

That said, his sleep is not exactly like Valight's; it is far more peaceful, the only movement from the sleeping mushroom being the gentle heaving of his chest (whatever part of him that might be) as he quietly snores to himself. Valight's only grows more and more restless, as the dragon begins to slither hastily in circles, picking up speed with each lap. Eventually, he becomes a mere blur, and before any of the trainers can register what happened, he springs toward Caza and smashes into him in a high-velocity tackle, with sufficient force to send the mushroom careening into the wall like a Frisbee. Caza pings off the wall and flops to the ground like a thud, miraculously still asleep. Even more miraculously, so is Valight, who, apparently unaffected by the massive dose of adrenalin such an attack surely must have given him, simply curls back up into a scaly ball and resumes his nap.

Not for long, however; he soon stirs once again, unfurling his body and raising his head high into the air, eyes still squeezed shut tight. He opens his mouth with a shrill cry, sending shuriken-like objects hurtling out of his throat and soaring across the room in search of something to stab. One by one, they hurtle through the air and slam into Caza's hide with a fwakk, vanishing into bursts of light. The Shroomish's only response is to grumble quietly before settling back down and resuming his nap, while his opponent does the same.

As the next round begins, Caza's sleep becomes far less restful. The Shroomish tosses and turns, muttering to himself frantically, before launching a seed into the air and settling back down again. The seed soars through the air and comes swooshing down on Valight's head with a soft tonk, and immediately sprouts, thrusting roots into the Dratini's skin. As the strange plant takes root, dark, troubling thoughts enter Valight's erstwhile serene and pleasant dreams. The Dratini squirms more and more uncomfortably as they contort into increasingly disturbing nightmares, until finally his eyes snap open as he lets out a cry of shock. Panting heavily, he huddles into a quivering ball, realising with a sigh of relief that it was just a nightmare. Regardless, with that stuck in his memory, he won't be getting back to sleep any time soon. Omitting to notice the sprout clinging to his head, he puts the dream out of his mind, focussing his attentions back on the battle. Rushing toward the slumbering Caza, he flattens his body against the ground, whipping his tail around at the last moment and sliding it under thr Shroomish's body. Then, with a deft flick of his body, he catapults the mushroom high into the air, flinging him right across the room and sending him crashing into the floor.

Despite this abrupt crash landing and the fact that he is now upside down, Caza carries on dozing, still muttering unintelligibly under his breath. After several moments of this, Valight becomes intrigued, slithering cautiously towards him in order to eavesdrop on his naptime ramblings. He goes as close as he dares, but still can't make anything out. Dejected, he goes to turn away, when suddenly Caza lets out a mighty snort and starts hollering his somniloquistic blabberings out loud. You call that a pumpkin?! he shouts between snores. Why, I oughta hit you upside the fruit bat with the wide end of my shoe-tree. The abruptness of this nonsense catches Valight off-guard, and despite it all being nonsensical tripe, he takes serious issue with Caza's tone, to the point where it offends him. Okay, so maybe he can't grow pumpkins very well, but what do you expect of a tiny blue serpent?! He decides to give the mushroom what for, again rushing at him with his tail stretched out ready to toss Caza ceilingward. In his hurry, he forgets to flatten it to slide under Caza's body, and with a yelp, Valight slides right over his opponent and lands on the floor with a heavy thud.

As Valight picks himself up sheepishly, Caza's mutterings become intelligible once more, but instead of gibberish insults, they take the form of cheering, his upturned, stubby little legs sluggishly working back and forth in a clapping motion. Valight whips around with a furious snarl; Caza is mocking his failure! The condescending little git! Valight's mild annoyance at Caza's ham-fisted attempts to infuriate him wells up twofold into full-blown rage, and with another snarl he slithers rapidly toward Caza, determined not to falter in dealing this savage blow. At the last moment, however, the Shroomish rolls over in his sleep, and Valight's tail sweeps past the empty space where his target once stood. The Dratini bellows in anger, staring murderously at the snoozing, now-upright fungus who dares make him look like a fool. Come next round, Caza's mincemeat. Or perhaps some sort of delicious mushroom stew. Yum.

Suspiciously examining his opponent to verify the prescence of any shoe-related paraphernalia, Valight notes that he appears to be safe and prepares his attack, while Caza's body glows with a faint blue tint. Valight opens his mouth wide, exuding a cloud of frosty air as he charges an orb of ice-type energy. With a cry, he unleashes it in a freezing beam, striking Caza in a burst of ice crystals. Caza takes the blow quite well, especially for a Grass-type, but it still deals a noticeable quantity of damage.

Caza shivers, flinging off the icicles, patches of frost and droplets of meltwater shrouding his body, and emits a loud snore, fidgeting restlessly and muttering in his sleep. His body glows green as a cartoonish bubble of saliva expands from his lips, swelling larger and larger until it becomes clear it is in fact an orb of energy. The snoozing fungus charges the orb for several seconds before sending it drifting through the air toward Valight. It strikes the Dratini with a burst of green bubbles that quickly dissolve away into the air, barely fazing the Dratini; his elemental affinities rob the attack of much of its potency. The attack does successfully stir up the Dratini's rage, however, and he resolves to pay back Caza with an especially potent Ice Beam. Opening his mouth extra-wide, he begins to form the largest sphere of Ice energy he can muster, in the process accidentally inhaling a great quantity of frost. Valight splutters as the cold irritates his lungs, more ice slipping into his windpipe and leaving him coughing hoarsely to rid his lungs of the glacial contagions.

All the racket awakens Caza, who grumpily snorts back into wakefulness and shouts groggily at Valight to keep the noise down. Then, he remembers where he is, and focuses his mind back on battling. Shuffling forward on his tiny little feet, he tilts himself forward and rushes at the still-coughing Valight, building up all the momentum he can muster and springing up at the dragon. With a loud thwock, his head collides with Valight's, sending the Dratini hurtling head over tail with an astonished shriek and landing on his head with a loud crash. He tries to pick himself up and retaliate, but is too dazed, immediately collapsing back onto the ground with a groan and lying still. He might not be getting up for a moment or two.

A minimal arena that literally has nothing in it. It is a square room that is ivory and extremely basic, being a vast expanse of whiteness that stretches on seemingly forever. A great place for a simple battle with no hassle, if a bit unnerving.

Neither the Pokémon nor the trainers knew how long it had been since the last round. There was only so long this could go on for, surely?

All at once, there was a sudden pop and a girl in a modified Rocket uniform appeared with flag in hand and a whistle round her neck.

"So I heard you need a referee?"

Round 18, begin!

Neither Pokémon seems particularly willing to fight - Valight because of the pretty lights swirling around his head, Caza because he is ready to pass out - but the commands have been issued, there is now a referee to actually oversee the battle... the show must go on.

Despite Caza's prior speed increases, Valight still manages to act first, squirming into a more upright position. He tips his head back (doing his best to ignore the pretty lights) and forms a ball of ice energy in is mouth. It's unpleasantly cold, particularly given that he is already cold blooded, and he hurriedly fire a beam of the energy towards Caza; the Shroomish is blasted backwards by the attack. He shakes off the thin layer of ice coating his front and grumbles. He'd really, really like a nap right now. Instead of a nap, however, he bounces forward and slams himself into Valight's face as hard as he can.

The blow makes the Dratini stagger, inasmuch as something shaped like a snake can stagger. The energy still in his mouth flickers and fades, his concentration broken. The shock of being hit in the head jolts the last of the confusion out of his system, though, so it's not all bad.

Caza seizes the opportunity to headbutt Valight once more, though it saps much of his remaining energy. There's a resounding crack as heads collide (the referee looks around; there aren't really any walls to resound off after all) and Valight is left once more reeling, though he feels oddly numb. He summons up an Ice Beam again and lets it fly, once more pushing Caza back several feet.

Caza stands up shakily and tries to make himself leap forward as he had done before, but he manages only a waddle. Valight watches in amusement as Caza manages to bring himself up to the Dratini. However, he can only manage a light bump against Valight's body before his strength leaves him, and he topples backwards with a gentle thud.
