Even as the next round begins, Ptah is too worried about Flarrai's wellbeing to listen to his trainer, forgoing his action to continue tending to her injuries. When Flarrai finally comes to her senses after her crash landing, Ptah tentatively lets go of her, and is relieved to see she wasn't badly hurt. She begins strutting around the arena, and at first Ptah thinks she's just showing she can walk alright; however, he soon notices that at the same time she's mocking him and generally being obnoxious. Her behaviour infuriates Ptah; what an ungrateful swine! He spends two of his attacks to make sure she's okay without recieving a word of thanks, and now she behaves like this? He flies into a vicious rage, determined to vent his anger on something but too worked up to think straight.

Ptah's first order of business is to increase his speed, summoning the loose shards of rock into the air and rubbing them against his body. This shears off all the rough, jagged portions of his hide, leaving his body surface smooth and streamlined. With his new aerodynamic body, enacting swift, deadly revenge for his opponent's insults will be far easier. Flarrai, however, doesn't seem threatened as she settles down for a brief snooze to recoup her energy.

Putting his new ninja-like speed into practise, Ptah swoops down on his opponent. Noticing this, the terrified bird flaps desperately to escape whatever the Gligar is about to do, but Ptah is too fast for her. He swoops down on the flustered little bird, claws poised to attack, and deals a tiny scratch to the top of her head. In his rage, he swipes her slightly more viciously than he might otherwise, but still barely leaves a mark. However the suddenness of the attack is still enough to leave Flarrai a nervous wreck as she tries to figure out what on earth just happened. Despite having her nerves somewhat shattered, Flarrai still notices she's running rings around her opponent, and decides to celebrate the fact by beating the crap out of Ptah some more. Fluttering over to where the bat-scorpion landed after his glide down to attack her, she pins him down with her talons and begins to peck the bejeezus out of him. Once she feels her exuberance has been expressed enough, she claws him with her talons and flies away, leaving the furious Gligar to struggle with the venomous slime still travelling through his veins.

Deciding you can never have enough speed when you're dealing with a treacherous harlot like Flarrai, Ptah picks up the stones again and begins to give his body another buffing. He stares down at the Pidgey in an awkward combination of adoration and hatred, completely failing to pay attention to what he's doing with those incredibly sharp rocks running all over his body. It's not long before one runs straight into his eye, and with a horrible shriek Ptah drops the rocks and recoils, covering his eye with his pincers. After a while, he recovers from the pain, lowering his claws to reveal a very sore, watery eye. He tries to open it, but it soon snaps shut from the pain, and he sets about trying to blink out the errant grit while Flarrai shudders and begins her own attack. She spreads her wings and lifts herself into the air, flying extremely quickly in a figure of eight a few inches off the ground. Her speed increases until she eventually grinds to a halt, a slightly faint mirror image of herself appearing at either end of the figure eight path she flew around.

Looking up with his one operational eye, Ptah is shocked to see three Pidgeys standing before him; just how much did that stone screw up his vision?! As he tries to figure out what's happened, all three flap their wings and rise from the ground, ascending with increasing speed as a red aura surrounds their bodies. This puzzles Ptah even further; their wings are moving far too slowly to even carry them, let alone with such speed. Then the heat hits him, the whole room beginning to sway as the air heats up to almost scalding temperatures. Then with incredible speed Flarrai and her compatriots perform three swift loop-de-loops, flashing red on completing each one, before their whole bodies burst into flame and come screaming through the air right towards Ptah. Before he can make a sound one of the fireballs smashes into him with a burst of flame, knocking him to the ground as the Flarrais soar over him, perform a vertical half-loop and glide back to their starting point. Ptah picks himself up, snals furiously, and starts work on take two of his revenge. He lifts the jagged splinters of rock once more, and this time plays it safe, flinging them at his opponent rather than rubbing them all over his body where they can easily betray him. Before Flarrai even notices she's under attack, the shards of flint are already embedding themselves in her chest. Her clones blink out of existence as more and more rocks embed themselves in the bird's tiny body, and the overwhelmed Flarrai collapses to the ground, bleeding profusely from her abdomen. Ptah gives a horrified gasp as he observes what he has done to his beloved; however his spirits are returned somewhat as Flarrai stirs, slowly but surely climbing back to her talons, but not likely to stay up for long.

With Flarrai too exhausted to move after her combination attack, Ptah has her in the palm of his, er, claw during the third action. As he pats at the nasty scald the collision left across his front, his anger boils up again, along with his determination to make her pay for her insults earlier. He listens maliciously to his trainer's commands- "use Brick Break to block the dive bomb"? But she already DID that!, Ptah thinks exasperatedly. Why are you telling me to do that now?! He decides to to take his bad mood out on his trainer- Flarrai set it off, after all- and just goes with his command as well as he can. Gliding down to the fatigued, mutilated Flarrai, he lifts a claw, roughly aiming his blow with his good eye and swinging down as hard as he can. However, in his blind anger, his aim isn't quite good enough; Flarrai easily ducks out of the way, and the pincer smashes harmlessly into the ground. Harmless to her, anyway; in his anger, Ptah put just enough force behind the blow to result in ungodly pain as his claw slams into the solid ground. With a yelp of agony, he retreats, cradling his poor, bruised pincer in his free arm. Clearly if he wants to make any progress in this battle ever, he's going to need to control his anger; but as the poisoning flares up, crippling his insides with incredible pain, he knows that's going to be near impossible.

~ Quick Attack and Heat Wave produced a physical Fire-type attack with 100 base power, slightly higher priority, and a 10% chance of a burn. I was probably a little too harsh on the energy cost but then Flarrai's energy is the least of her worries :p
~ as the reffing states, the combo was ordered for the second action, so blocking it on the third couldn't have worked. Combining Brick Break with Stone Edge (by blocking the attack and then firing the stones), I might have allowed.

Well, this is a mighty convenient health for you, isn't it, Ptah? First, let's try and do something you just can't hurt yourself with. Take a load off with Roost. But if you're still feeling angry after your nap, or whatever it is you do in roost, try to get it off your chest with Frustration. (but with my luck Ptah will end up cutting himself...) And if Flaarai (for some bizarre reason) is still conscious after that, use Strength.

Watching his opponent struggling to stay conscious makes Ptah realise he feels like a rest as well. Drifting down to the ground and wrapping his wings around himself like a blanket, he closes his eyes and settles down for a nap, but his rest is almost immediately ruined by a blast of the referee's whistle. Opening on eye he sees the referee walking over to Chief Zackrai and brandishing a document listing the arena's rules, and the trainer sheepishly commands Ptah to get up. The Gligar grumbles and climbs to his feet, not sure what's going on but incredibly annoyed that it's cutting into his naptime. While Ptah is trying to get rest he doesn't need, Flarrai is busy exerting herself far beyond what her massive injuries should allow, darting through the air in circles at ever-increasing speeds. The intense workout releases bucketloads of energy, which combined with all the adrenaline in the near-fainted Pidgey's blood, makes her far quicker and more alert.

She's still not fast enough to outrun her foe, however. Ptah glides towards her, his claw raised, as he thinks about every way Flarrai has wronged him during the match; spitting poison at him, mocking him, toying with his emotions, and much more besides. An uncontrollable rage stirs inside him, a rage he needs to vent upon the one who brought it about- Flarrai. With a scream of anger, he collides with the Pidgey, smashing his claw into her face as the two collapse to the ground. Flarrai lets out a chirp of agony as a red-faced Ptah pummels her with everything he has, smashing her with his claws and tail over and over, long after it's clear she's no longer moving. Fearing Ptah might cause permanent damage if he carries on much longer, Arylett recalls Flarrai to the safety of her Pokéball, leaving Ptah to vent all his unspent rage on the ground. Eventually, he calms down, and finally succeeds in blinking the grit away from his sore eye. Just as he celebrates his victory and the ability to see again, his poisoning worsens, and he groans in agony and clutches his stomach.

With Flarrai out of action, Arylett decides to send Alterra back out, hurling the Zigzagoon's Pokéball into the spot where her Pidgey once lay. Rather disgruntled at her rest being disturbed, she staggers to her still-frozen feet and surveys the area. Judging by the amount of feathers littered over the arena, her replacement didn't seem to have done very well; that said she's not fighting Bes any more so Flarrai must have put up a good fight. Ptah, meanwhile, finally overcomes his grief at knocking out his sweetheart, and prepares to do the same to his new foe as well.

The fury of battle again stirred up inside him, Ptah glides over to his foe with his claw held high, a brownish aura coating it. Alterra has no time to dodge as the Gligar deals a rock-crushing blow to her forehead with his glowing claw, causing her to let out a squeal of pain and stagger away lamely on her numb, frozen legs. When her anger at the pain fades away, she begins to grow furious at Ptah for beating her teammate. With a snarl, she decides to exact revenge for his cruelty, stumbling over to his landing spot on her ice-encased legs. Just as Ptah gets ready to take off, he feels something heavy, blunt, and very cold slam into the side of his head, and keels over with a hiss to be pounced on by a rabidly angry Alterra. She begins to pummel him repeatedly in the face with her prosthetic ice clubs, Ptah screeching with each blow until Alterra vents the last of her rage with one final smack straight into his face.

Satisfied with her tantrum, Alterra leaps off of Ptah, who quickly gets himself back into the air in case Alterra decides to hit him again. Instead, however, the Zigzagoon simply curls up on the floor, shuts her eyes, and begins napping quietly. Ptah gives a puzzled frown; he's not sure why Alterra would opt to take a random break now of all times, but he's sure as hell happy to take advantage of it. Raisingly his claw again, he scuttles over to the spot where Alterra lies, bringing his tightly-clenched appendage down on her as hard as he can. She gives a sleepy yelp as he strikes her foreleg, chipping off a good portion of her ice glove, but then just rolls over and carries on with her nap.

By the start of the next action, she is feeling much more refreshed. Climbing to her feet, she turns dutifully to her opponent to see what attack he is preparing; however, Ptah is simply standing completely idle. Alterra smirks; if he's going to squander his advantage, she's happy to step in and make the first move! Opening her mouth, she reveals a spot of clear blue light, which rapidly grows before bursting out in a brightly-glowing ray that forms ice crystals in midair as it streaks toward Ptah. Right before it hits, Ptah grins and instantly seals his body in a dome of light, which Alterra's beam slams into, forming huge clusters of ice which gradually shatter and slide off. With that, Ptah dispels his protective bubble, and pulls a defiant face at Alterra, mocking her wasted attack. She's about to get miffed when suddenly she spots another fascinating and potentially valuable item on the floor. Scooping it up in her teeth, she waddles over to Arylett and presents it with a victorious wag of her tail. The trainer picks the item up and examines it; it appears to be a plain white sachet of tomato ketchup, such as one might get at a fast food restaurant if said restaurant had neither a name nor a logo. She forces a smile and pockets it, hoping they introduce an Asber cent, just so she can sell all this crap for something.

Just as Ptah finishes listening to his orders, he suddenly feels something slam into his chest at incredibly high speed. Winded, he falls to the ground clutching his midsection, and tries to catch a glimpse of what hit him. Scanning the room, he spots nothing apart from Alterra, sitting innocently at the other end of the room. Surely that stupid fuzzball can't move as fast as whatever that thing was, right?... He decides to ignore it, and flaps himself back into the air to perform an impressive sequence of flips and dives, forming the motions of a ritualistic war dance that raises the fighting spirit inside him and inspires him to fight harder.

Watching this display, Alterra decides augmenting stats sounds like a pretty good idea, and sets to work on psyching herself up mentally and physically, performing a few push-ups and mentally focussing herself on kicking arse. Ptah, meanwhile, is still performing his acrobatic swoops and dives, finishing with an elaborate loop-de-loop and landing with a few clicks of his somehow suddenly much sharper pincers. His fighting spirit is now at its very zenith, and he can barely wait to sink his claws into something to test it.

Or rather, let someone else do that instead. Glowing with a bright red aura, he shrinks into a tiny globe of energy which streaks through the air and back into his Pokéball. Then Chief Zackrais belt begins to shake abruptly as a Pokéball forces itself free, popping from its holder onto the floor and bursting open to reveal Caza the Shroomish. While the fungus looks around the room and wonders what on Earth happened to it, Alterra gives a slight frown; her attack won't pack quite such a punch against this new opponent, but it ought to still work pretty well. She opens her mouth to charge up a sphere of glittering light blue energy, which streaks through the air and slams into the unprepared Ramses in an explosion of snowflakes. He shrieks in horror as the unbearably cold energy explodes against his side, shivering furiously to shake off the ice and regulate his body heat. Alterra, meanwhile, is doing the opposite of cooling off; the last few millimetres of ice coating her legs melts away, leaving her free to move around. She struts around joyfully, and spots a tiny, interesting-looking item lying on the ground while doing so. With a sigh, Arylett strolls up and takes the thing away, which turns out to be a single white sesame seed. Seriously? Who on Earth is she going to sell a single sesame seed to? As she strides exasperatedly back to her position, Caza recovers from the Ice Beam, and suddenly notices the feeling of intense strength inside him; the effects of Ptah's war dances must have passed onto him! He feels more energetic, too.

Eager to take her newly-thawed limbs for a test drive, Alterra begins pacing quickly up and down, working her little legs faster and faster until eventually she becomes a blur. In a movement too fast for the naked eye to register, the rushes across the room and slams into Caza at tremendous speed, zipping back to where she started before anyone notices she'd moved. Completely caught off guard by the attack's suddenness, Caza is flung away several feet by the immense momentum of the super-speed tackle, rolling over several times before landing on his head in a daze. Taking a few moments to readjust himself, he hops to his feet and prepares to counterattack. With a light shake of his body, he releases a pale yellowish cloud of tiny, almost invisible spores, which swirl through the air towards Alterra, who unknowingly breathes many of them through her nostrils. A sudden, odd drowsiness hits her as the spores make their way to her central nervous system, sprouting and manipulating her brain into inducing insurmountable tiredness. Within seconds, Alterra collapses onto her side fast asleep.

Grinning smugly at the snoozing raccoon, Caza launches a giant seed from his head, swollen to an immense size by the power passed to him by his predecessor. It sails through the air in a huge arc and soars down onto Alterra's head, colliding with a tremendous explosion of greenery as the casing breaks apart into woody shrapnel, hurling Alterra backwards with explosive force and slamming her with huge, thorny vines that sprout from it.

The vicious beating delivered on Alterra by the seed explosion very nearly rouses her from her slumber, but she still remains in a very light sleep; rolling over, she curls herself up and carries on snoring peacefully. Caza, however, it determined that her rest will be interrupted. He totters up to the snoring ball of fuzz and raises one of his stubby legs, quickly striking Alterra back and forth across the face with rather more force than necessary to snap her out of her little siesta. Her eyes snap open and she gives a startled yelp, scurrying away from the unusually powerful slapping and becoming immediately wide awake. She begins to get angry, but is distracted by yet another hard-to-spot object lying on the ground next to her; a napkin! Why all the fast-food paraphernalia? Regardless, she grabs the paper towel in her teeth and scampers over to Arylett, who just snatches up the napkin and shoves it in her backpack with the rest of the rubbish Alterra keeps bringing her.

Alterra gives a groan of agony and staggers a stubborn few paces forward, every inch of her burning with pain with every movement. Knowing she can't keep up fighting much longer, she tries her hardest to ignore her injuries and fight on regardless. She closes her eyes, summoning a cluster of multicoloured energy orbs that float around her in a ring, slowly spinning and flashing a multitude of different colours before they finally settle on a single hue- a sort of darkish, rocky brown. Then, once again, she takes off across the room at astonishing speed, her glowing energy spheres in tow, to deliver a savage high-velocity tackle to a startled Caza, the balls of light abandoning their orbit and smashing into the Shroomish's hide. With a wail of combined surprise and pain, Caza topples over again from the force of the tackle, his stubby little legs waving madly in the air. They begin to shine with a dull brown light as he struggles to right himself, eventually succeeding in flipping onto his feet, and immediately springing into the air and bringing his glowing appendage down to meet Alterra's face. With a rather painful-sounding thud, his kick connects, and Alterra gives a gasp of pain, staggers backwards a few steps, and blanks out, collapsing to her side and laying motionless. A few specks of light similar to that which enveloped Caza's feet float off from the point where his hit connected, which shoot over to the Shroomish and diffuse into his body.

Okay! Time to give him the hairy eyeball, Valight! Oh, wrong battle. I mean, um... swish his foot up in some tasty punch!
