Lord of the Fireflies vs. Coloursfall

Nice job!

Kaitei, take the stage!

BRINE.

If he tries to Yawn, Refresh, Rest, Rock Tomb, Swagger, Aqua Ring, Endure or Icy Wind, Taunt him. If he Protects / Detects, use Focus Energy.

Brine / Taunt / Focus Energy x3

EDIT: wait just checking if he has Brine.

EDIT2: Yup.

HOT DAMN HERE GOES NOTHING.

Soon as the round starts, slap those paws over your ears and use Icy Wind - then we can Rest without worry. Finish with Chill.

Arena: Professor Lab
Who's the said professor is not really important. It is a generic Professor Lab were starters are given away and where new trainers begin their journey to become the new Pokémon Champion, then register on Smogon and realize they suck and have their dreams shattered. Oh well. Said Professor (Actually let's just call him Prof. Said) left his town and lab for two trainers to battle, and he might regret it but anyways a bit of reconstruction work is a fart for the Almighty Prof. Said.

Anyways, the battle will take place outside the lab, because we want every move working, you know (There's also a stream for Surfing convenient isn't it). Since starter Pokémon will feel quite at home here, all attacks that match their type have their damage boosted by 2% after all calculations for 2% less energy. Besides that it's pretty much it.
Arena status: There are seeds all over the ground. A blackboard hanging around outside the laboratory was on fire and got mostly consumed, but that was put out. There is a hole on the ground, and the rocks it was previously composed of are scattered around. The Stealth Rock has been scattered off, leaving only the pointed stones lying around with harmless edges face-up. One of the trees and the grass close to it were ablaze, but that was also quenched; it left everything badly charred, but still existant, atlhough the tree will snap easily.

-----

With the last sendout to be made, the trainers could tell that the battle was not going to last much longer. In the last leg, every move is decisive. Which trainer would be able to finish up best?

Lord of the Fireflies made the final sendout. From that point ownards, Pokéballs would only be whipped out to recall the winner and the loser. And the last Pokémon to take the stage was a short, bipedal critter with a razor-sharp scallop hung to his chest -- a so-called scalchop.

Thus, began the fifteenth round.

Kaitei couldn't quite get his orders right in his mind initially -- so many attacks to expect. He thought it was his fault, too, but nonetheless, he would get it right as soon as one of the attacks in the list rung out.

Jacob had also run into a problem with his commands. Hands over ears? What ears? Not to mention "hands" could be a wrong term for his forepaws. Anyhow, he bloody damn well knew where he listened through and plugged that as he blew a chilling gale at his new opponent.

The frosty winds knocked the water within the Oshawott's body well outside a comfortable temperature, causing his entire metabolism to slow down. Plus, there was a minor bout of fright with the cold sensation. It overrode his ability to come up with snappy insults -- even if his foe were listening to a single word, he wouldn't even begin to be offended.

Sensing the ideal timing, the Squirtle again retreated into his shell, entering a state of trance that allowed him to focus completely on purging away every last wound he'd suffered from the other enemy. The current enemy, recognizing this as Rest, gave provocation one more shot; again, however, there was no way a single slight would even reach his not-ears.

Relaxing as it seemed, though, the process was exhausting. The turtle Pokémon would still take several minutes to regain awakeness, even though the trance had completed its role. As such, he merely relaxed within the comfort and safety of his body-lair, slowly preparing for a second bout. Kaitei at one point tried to disturb the slumber with a blast of salty water, but it slid right off. Quite overwhelming, considering the extent to which the very same attack had bulldozed his fallen comrade's health.

Additional notes:
- The ear-covering couldn't outright negate Taunt, but did drop its accuracy. One way or the other, the roll was unfavourable enough that it would miss even under normal circumstances.
- The second attempt at Taunt also failed to work due to Jacob being asleep.
- Once, while writing a noobfic, I had also run into the same problem of Squirtle technically having no ears. The fact that I didn't break the narrative flow for a pointless joke this time is a sign of improvement, I guess?

I forget how long rest lasts but I don't think its much longer so Chill the first two actions. Then when you wake up and have chilled out, take advantage of that speed drop and get all up in his grill and use Zap Cannon, which is totally cool that you can actually learn it. Just Iron Defence again if he tries to keep you from attacking him.

Try to Screech to prevent any chilling, with the added benefit of actually lowering Jacob's defense even if it does not work as we wish. Then, if Screech did somehow prevent the chilling or lowered its effect (just be attentive at how he looks when he wakes up, if he looks all full of energy it'll be a proof it didn't work), wait for him to Zap Cannon and Encore it. Otherwise, Copycat it if it misses and Facade if it hits.

-----

All of a sudden, Professor Said made a surprise appearance. He noticed the charred, nearly-destroyed tree; the ground gone marshy with water; the holes through his laboratory; and last but not least, the missing blackboard. He seemed underwhelmed, actually.

Stating that he had returned to fetch something he'd forgotten, he went into his laboratory briefly. When he came out, he was dragging a new blackboard to keep outside, because he figured he'd leave the replacement there already. He also mused getting a whiteboard instead while he was traveling.

In said professor's leave, the match started again.

Eagerly trying out the new blackboard, Kaitei lunged and delivered a slow, yet deep and painful slash with his scalchop. The gritting noise agonized all humans within range; however, it was completely lost on Jacob, who rested unfazed.

Frustrated, the Oshawott tried again, giving it his all. Not that it would help his frustration much; the noise was anything but comforting. It ended up being no more than an enormous inconvenience, however, as the Squirtle once more lay motionless inside his shell.

Up until half a minute after the attack, that is. He casually plopped off and back into battle after such. He checked if the enemy was taking any precautions and, noticing none such, recapped his dream. He had envisioned evolution, as a Blastoise. He saw the cannons sticking out from his back, he could feel them. And they were so hi-tech too.

Eyes closed and imagining his future spouts, the turtle Pokémon gathered dormant charges from the Thunderpunches he had been fed earlier in the match, unloading them in a quasi-explosive fashion. The two bolts that surged from his armholes didn't directly hit the target, but instead, converged into a ball and danced around the air before swatting at the otter critter with mighty impulse.

Laid down both by the impact and by the powerful voltage, Kaitei struggled to stand. His nerves had been zapped majorly, and as such, there was hardly any compliance from his muscles. Bravely moving in spite of the harsh condition, however, he let out a warcry that hit somewhere between courageous and highly irritated, lunging at slow motion before letting rip a vengeful swipe from his scalchop. Normally, it would have left a pretty ugly cut; however, Jacob's previous Iron Defense helped curb the blow, reducing it to a non-bleeding gash. It hurt, nonetheless.

Additional notes:
- Screech is useless against a Pokémon undergoing Rest sleep.
- A Pokémon would be absolutely incapable of telling the difference between their opponent at ~30% energy and ~50% energy. Plus, "check if he looks full of energy" would be less than reliable even by human standards, and ~50% is still not exactly pumping with stamina. Still, Screech getting absolutely no rise from Jacob was enough information for an educated guess.
- Next round, Lord of the Fireflies commands first.

-----

When the word "Screech" escaped Lord of the Fireflies' lips once more, other trainer and referee alike cast a disapproving glare. Ears would be covered in anticipation.

Jacob opened the round gushing a fine, deep white smoke from his mouth. Instead of spreading around the arena as a gas normally would, it twirled into a formation not unlike a localized, tiny hurricane, engulfing the Squirtle. While it was very difficult to see him beneath the foggy shield, it was still as easy, if not easier, to aim attacks at him, as the shroud was actually a dead giveaway of his position at all times.

Kaitei proceeded to deliver as promised. All humans were quick to reach for their ears as the scalchop again rubbed against the blackboard, horrifying ears even through any protective fingers. This time, the true target of the terrible attack was helpless before hearing it; however, the mist around him stabilized him, and the sound actually failed to annoy him to an extent any profound.

Enraged, the Oshawott began to run towards his foe; however, said foe positioned up for a powerful counterstrike, and lunged for it as soon as his prey was in range. Reflexively, the otter Pokémon stepped back, closed his eyes and readied for a painful blow; however, all that ever landed was a comical slap across the face.

When he motioned to continue attacking, his muscles finally gave in. The disrupting electricity was acting up, preventing him from connecting his next move. Seeing the foe's immobility, the turtle closed his eyes, focusing deep and channeling every bit of Fighting-type power he could muster in his body.

With one mighty motion, Jacob's fist flew skyward, envelopped in a blinding glow. The Focus Punch landed with audible impact, hurling its victim away far enough that he would end up landing into the stream running nearby.

-----

After a fair deal of relative inaction, the battle would plunge into decisive territory.

The almost unidentifiable swirl of fine white fog strolled towards Kaitei. Jacob's right forepaw emerged from it, glowing. It moved rather slowly towards its target; he tried to avoid it, but just narrowly failed. When the punch connected, it did so with a minor explosion, leaving a harsh bruise and chars over the cheek it mercilessly punished.

The Oshawott tried to clap, as he was commanded to, but his sense of proprioception was all messed up, ultimately causing him to comically slap his own face multiple times over instead.

Quickly seizing into this moment of confusion, the Squirtle made his next move. His Water-type powers charmed the flowing waters of the stream nearby, molding up a massive wave that slammed down on the otter Pokémon with savage fury.

After nearly slipping on the thorougly soaked and at certain points muddy ground, Kaitei managed to amble towards the blackboard for another session of ear abuse. Just like the other time, however, the attack's intended target was by and at large unaffected, thanks to his shrouding mist.

One more time before the end of the round, the river waters were hefted and used for a powerful slam, bearing down hard on the turtle Pokémon's opponent. After taking that blow, his frustration suddenly turned into determination, as his hidden powers recognized the moment of peril and rushed for the rescue.

Jacob, on the other hand, wasn't as much in the lead as one would think. He had been in battle for very long, and was quickly running out of stamina.

Coloursfall's grin by the beggining of the round quietly spoke ill omens as the battle resumed.

Kaitei couldn't even walk back into the battlefield, too dizzy and still with electricity lingering around his nerves. He had to be pushed back in by his trainer. And then, promptly, he was again forcefully relocated, as Jacob grappled his helpless body and flung it with a forceful leap throw -- one that seemed unnatural for such short arms -- into the river.

The Oshawott quickly surfaced in spite of the difficulty he had moving, but it was not to last, as his opponent hadn't stopped moving about. The Squirtle leapt on his foe and, using his superior weight to an advantage, pinned him at the bottom of the water.

Realizing what his enemy was attempting, the otter Pokémon began to struggle against the hold, but, in his shoddy state, that amounted to little more than uselessly banging head and limbs all over the riverfloor. Even that would become a luxury, however, as his irresponsive muscles couldn't hold the emergency movement for that long, cramping and aching from the continuous usage in spite of the conditions.

Taking a rest was hardly a possibility for him at that point.

Round 19 – End

Lord of the Fireflies (XXO)
Currently out: Kaitei
Oshawott
Male Oshawott
Ability: Torrent
Item: Muscle Band
Health: 23%
Energy: 77%
Status: 1- Speed. Paralyzed (Moderate), confused (Severe). Torrent is activated. 1 Direct Healing move left, 3 Chills left. 6 actions to drowning KO.
Condition: Limp and immobile.
Performed: fully paralyzed ~ fully confused ~ fully paralyzed

Coloursfall (XXO)
Currently out: Jacob
Squirtle
Male Squirtle
Ability: Torrent
Health: 78%
Energy: 11%
Status: 2+ Defense. 0 Direct Healing moves left, 0 Chills left.
Condition: Not sure how morally comfortable he is with this idea.
Performed: Seismic Toss (into water) ~ hold underwater ~ hold underwater

Arena status: There are seeds all over the ground. A blackboard hanging around outside the laboratory was on fire and got mostly consumed, but that was put out. A new blackboard has been placed in its stead, and displays markings where it was slashed.

Additional notes:
- Oshawott are mammals alright, but they're also Water-types; this does not confer an immunity to drowning, but definitely does mean a lung capacity not always easy to wait out on. This is also coupled with the massive stamina gap -- as of the beggining of the round, Kaitei is four times more energized than Jacob -- but that much is about nullified by the fact that Kaitei is paralyzed.
- Next round, Coloursfall commands first.

I'm kind of a dick for this but ALL IS FAIR IN LOVE AND WAR it's nothing a pokecentre won't fix.

Solution to him having lots of room for air in his lungs: PUNCH IT OUT. Aim a Mega Punch at his gut, then keep holding him in. Your superior weight should help there. If he manages to get out somehow, grab him again asap.

Mega punch (@gut) ~ Hold ~ Hold

What is the full paralysis rate, and when will it begin to fade?

Because it's becoming quite annoying right now.
It was 25% at severe paralysis, and it's 14% in moderate paralysis now. It should fade to light (8%) in three or four rounds.

OKAY, RAZOR SHELL TO CHOP HIS HEAD OFF AND FEED ON HIS BLOOD

You still have time, so keep it easy and DO NOT PANIC, it will only grow worse. Just keep cool and do your stuff. First of all, Protect against that Mega punch (I don't know if the Protect will repulse the water around you, but if it does, breathe) and you can even make a "I ain't even mad" face just to troll around a bit. When he's done crushing his own fist against our shield, use Aqua Jet to shoot upwards and out of the water - TAKE A DEEP BREATH, and blow the greatest Blizzard of all times down at the water, hopefully freezing it and imprisoning the turtle.

Still, the priority is to escape, so Aqua Jet upwards on the third action if it's not done already. If you have the opportunity, stand atop him before using Aqua Jet, possibly pushing him deeper, but it's really not a necessity if you're afraid he might grab your feet (which sounds impossible to me due to the fact Squirtles have teeny tiny fingers, but eh). If he succeeds at grabbing you, use Frustration; make it the hardest possible for him to hold you. Since you are about the same size and his arms are so short they look like decorations, it shouldn't be too hard. If at any point you are too confused / paralyzed to move, Chill and try to conserve your air.

Protect / Chill(Curl Up) ~ Aqua Jet (Upwards) / Frustration / Chill ~ Blizzard@Pond / Aqua Jet (Up) / Chill

You tricky Coloursfall, you won't get away with this >:O

EDIT: OH YEAH I FORGOT. On the first action, if you are paralyzed / confused, CURL UP IN A BALL; protect your belly and throat from him!
