Tides Under Siege [OOC/Signups/Setup]

Storm Earth and Fire

Would you like to make a contract?
Within a deep natural harbor lies an ancient region. Never really explored by humans, the depths of the harbor hide an old kingdom, populated by aquatic Pokemon. The features at the bottom of the natural harbor, with a few caves and many rocks jutting about, make it pretty clear why humans never found this kingdom. Look closely, though, and you will notice structures that aren't quite natural. The coastline is remote and to the undersea Pokemon, appears uninhabited. They usually don't surface, though, as boats have been seen sailing by and most would rather live on without worrying about outsiders.

The ruling family of this kingdom have been around for quite some time, possibly over a thousand years, though time is a bit hard to track in the depths. They trade their lineage back to powerful warriors and possibly even dragons. Many have gone out into the wide ocean to seek their fortunes, but the ones most closely related to the original kings of the area have stayed and reigned.

Over the course of their long history, there have been the inevitable squabbles. Squabbles which have lead to skirmishes and battles between family members, usually arising from a personal insult. The harbor is currently undergoing one of these periods, in fact.

However, this one's different. The succession laws, usually slightly different under each monarch, are pretty clear most of the time. The last king, though, fell into madness. He turned on his retinue during an excursion, accusing them of being traitors, and killing at least one of them before being restrained and falling unconscious. Later, he would have fits of amnesia and forget who his family and courtiers were. The last king also had at least one wife murdered, almost unheard of in the family. And when asked about the succession law, he said, "Let them figure it out for themselves, that way they'll leave me alone."

Unfortunately, those were his last words. Thus, it's really quite uncertain who of his two sons should take the throne. Tensions between the two grew quickly. Many nobles and subjects have taken sides on the issue. Everyone, though, is worried that it will turn into open warfare.

This succession crisis, however, seems to have another crisis behind it. Strange structures have been spotted along the coastline. Humans enter and exit them at somewhat regular intervals. What accompanied these strange structures, though, threatens the lives of everyone living in these waters.

Strange and at times disturbing incidents have occurred. One such incident saw the water around a village heated to a very uncomfortable, and for some fatal, degree. Some reported boiling at the surface.

And then there was a series of incidents where lone Pokemon wandering towards the shore would, for no apparent reason, explode.

Another incident involved a load of burning material being ejected into the water, causing some serious injuries and at least one death.

However, these incidents haven't occurred in quite some time, not to mention they were small in scale. A few might be suspicious, but most are not willing to risk further damage by confronting the humans, the prime suspects. Instead, everyone seems occupied by the plight of the throne as nobody can seem to decide who is the rightful heir.

Rules and Guidelines:
- Read the Roleplay Forum Guidelines and the Rules of Good Roleplay Etiquette if you haven't already.
- You cannot be a legendary Pokemon.
- You should be a Pokemon that can survive underwater.
- You can be just about anybody, but if you want to be royalty please ask first.
- Keep in mind that you are underwater. Fire attacks don't do much, there's no wind, flying isn't really flying, and diving won't accomplish much.
- Level up moves work along these guidelines, children are only able to use low level moves, and acquire move as they grow up. Adults should be able to use mid-upper level moves. The highest level moves are attained by the martially trained. Use your judgement, but don't be afraid to ask.
- Characters can have one TM/move tutor move and one egg move. Royalty may have one extra dragon-type move, it doesn't have to be in the species' move pool, except for Draco Meteor (unless you are actually a dragon), Roar of Time, and Spatial Rend.
- Mendatt and Coroxn have called the roles of the two brothers.

Form:

Name:
Age:
Gender:
Species:
Occupation: What is your character's job?
Allegiance: Has your character sworn allegiance to a liege? Nobility would usually pledge allegiance to royalty. Commoners would probably just go along with whomever held their land.
Loyalty: Has your character taken side in the succession crisis? Not necessarily the same as your allegiance.
Appearance:
Personality:
Background:
Extra Moves: List your character's TM/move tutor, egg, and (if applicable) bloodline moves.
Ability:

My own character:

Name: Claudio
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Species: Lapras
Occupation: Usually ruler of a village and it's surrounding lands, but returned to the castle to try and mediate the conflict.
Allegiance: The Crown.
Loyalty: None.
Appearance: As normal. Claudio is always seen wearing a necklace with a chunk of what appears to be silver attached.
Personality: Claudio is a stable and normally calm sort of person. His main concern is simply the people of the kingdom, he is less concerned with family matters most of the time and usually just wishes to get back to helping the people. However, he is committed to resolving the issue without war, as that would be disastrous.
Background: Claudio is the son of the former king's brother, making him a cousin to the feuding brothers. He was raised to be an administrator first and foremost, and granted a parcel of land and a village to watch over at a relatively young age. His father was an important figure, known for his adeptness at commerce and being a rather distant ruler of the duchy he received. Nonetheless, nothing bad happened so people remember him fairly well. Claudio's father died under rather shady circumstances, having possibly been assassinated, though nobody could discern why. Some made the connection to the madness of the king. Claudio, though, holds absolutely no grudge, proving himself able to put things in the past and move on.

He usually didn't concern himself with family politics, but when the king died with an uncertain succession, Claudio was called back to the castle to try and settle the issue, preferably peacefully. Thus far, all he's managed to do is get saddled with helping out the regency council making sure nothing goes horribly wrong.
Extra Moves: Psychic, Avalanche, Dragon Pulse
Ability: Shell Armor
Other: If the brothers were to both die, the crown would most likely fall onto Claudio's head.

Re: Tides Under Siege

Can I reserve a noble? Either way, I'm doing a gorebyss.

Name: Beauty (Ugly)
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Species: Gorebyss
Occupation: Working for Rafael as secretary/ campaign manager.
Allegiance: Rafael.
Loyalty: Rafael.
Appearance: A slightly yellowish pink and wider head fin than normal, but otherwise the same as a normal gorebyss. Her tail is slightly deformed as well, and is in the shape of a fish (think a huntail's tail). Picture probably coming soon.
Personality: Polite, cordial and likeable to strangers. Her "kind" personality and keen mind allowed Rafael to skyrocket in the peoples' mind, and helped a lot in the race to the throne. However, she is both very superficial and sensitive about her appearance. A childhood similar to both of her brother's have made her have a horrible self esteem and perfectionist attitude about appearance; instead of merely being gracious or offended about insults related to her figure she goes crazy. Hence, outrage. She adopts a vaguely creepy (but polite) manner of behavior in person, and can honestly be pretty unnerving. She's very determined, and once she decides something is going to happen she's not likely to give it up.
Background: Like the brothers, she was born to the king by one of his many wives. This one was killed because like Angel she was born different. The king being in one of his later stages of insanity, he didn't realize being shiny was simply a normal discoloration, albeit a very rare one. He demanded that she hide her coloration, officially naming her Ugly and saying she fit the name, and every day of her life she made sure to hide her appearance with makeup and paint. However, instead of coming to hate her father she began to idolize him, and truly believed that her shininess was despicable. She became obsessed with the idea of evolving into a gorebyss, because she thought she would become normal and beautiful.

However, because of her offensive style in battle she eventually came to hold a deep sea tooth. Unaware of its evolutionary properties, she used it at every opportunity and eventually she actually happened to evolve. Freaking out, she managed to get an everstone in time to remain a clamperl, but by the time she evolved into a gorebyss she realized it didn't entirely work. Her head fin was spread out in the shape of a huntail, and her tail was slightly disformed. However, she was so happy with her beauty she didn't mind. Worshipping appearance, she quickly gave up running for the throne herself and decided to work under the beautiful Rafael. She is the main workforce of his campaign, and often appears in various media to try to help him win.
Extra Moves: Signal beam, brine, and outrage (if allowed).
Ability: Swift swim.
Other: I'd like her to be the secretary/something of one of the brothers, but I don't know which one yet and of course I'd only do that if Mendatt/Coroxn doesn't mind. Beauty admires Rafael due to his appearance and hates/fears Angel, because that's how she feels she would've looked like if she evolved into a huntail.

Re: Tides Under Siege

I think he's going to be a Milotic or a Prinplup, but I can't decide which... Hmm. I guess I'll go with a Milotic. I'll start this now, but it may take a while.

Name: Rafael
Age: 23
Gender: Male. You know. Brother. All that.
Species: Milotic
Occupation: Competing with his brother over the throne.
Allegiance: Himself.
Loyalty: Again.
Appearance: He decided a long time ago that his scales, as a Feebas, were pathetic-looking, and spent large amounts of time finding a gold waterproof paint to make them more bearable to look at. Surprisingly, as soon as it was applied, he evolved, so he painted over all of his red scales instead.
Personality: A nice person in general, although somewhat haughty and royal-acting. Dislikes things that he regards as "Unbeautiful", especially his brother, who he regards as "Unbeautiful in every possible way". Mostly pacifistic. Hates his father, though for a different reason than his sibling: He dislikes the needless violence and bloodshed that his father caused.
Background: When he was born, his father nearly had his mother killed for the same reason as his previous wife was, not realizing that Feebas always look like he did. Once someone explained it to him, he decided not to, but his mother indignantly left, outraged at the very fact that he would have killed her. From that point the only parent he had was his father, who could be called an absentee parent without much of a stretch on the reality of the situation. Some of the higher ranking nobles raised him, for the most part. He strongly admired his brother- Never giving up in the face of nonacceptance, striving for beauty despite the fact that he knew, deep inside, that he would never find it. However, as time passed, he saw his brother less and less, since he spent half his time training and searching for a dragon scale and the other half avoiding court. At one point he asked his brother to come back to court, and told him that he missed him: Angel refused the offer, opting to stay in his own company rather than an outcast in the company if others. Rafael was, at this point, too young to understand why Angel was doing what he was doing, and began to resent him. He didn't know how to feel at the death of his father: He hated the man, but he didn't want him to die. When the matter of the succession came up, he was conflicted on whether or not to simply give Angel the crown: He didn't want bloodshed, but he felt he would make a better ruler than his brother. He was also still bitter at him, but he tried not to let that effect his decisions.
Extra Moves: Whirlpool, Dragon Pulse, Twister
Ability: Marvel Scale
Other: He's gay, although no one except for one trusted adviser knows: He was afraid that if the word reached his father that he wouldn't produce an heir, he would have him killed.

Re: Tides Under Siege

Name: Tur
Age: 112
Gender: Male
Species: Relicanth
Occupation: Historian
Allegiance: Undecided
Loyalty: Doesn't care much who gets the place, as long as the whole city doesn't get destroyed in the process.
Appearance: Relicanth
Tur has more scratches along his rocky scales than other Relicanth, thanks to his species' long life span and to how many places he has traveled.
Personality: Tur is quite gentle and will almost never fight or argue with anybody. He has lived a very long time and thus usually knows what is going on, but even so there are some things that he doesn't know. Even though he looks tough on the outside, he's actually a little bit timid and won't talk to intimidating outsiders or assert himself against someone who's not doing the right thing. Despite this, though, he has very tough willpower and on the occasion when he does get into a fight he will often go all out with powerful, devastating moves rather than worry about himself.
Background: Tur may have been here for a long time, but the royal family has been here longer. As a result Tur has grown familiar with the way it works, and so he's been confused by the latest squabble between the brothers since it hasn't happened so outwardly before. Back when the place was peaceful (and he was younger), though, Tur was mostly an explorer. He never strayed extremely far from the edges of the kingdom, but he never stayed in one place either. Because of this he knows a lot about the areas surrounding the kingdom in addition to what's inside it. Coming to him for questions about anything involving exploring is usually a good idea, but thanks to his age he also knows a lot about the past. He doesn't have a place of his own to call a museum, but that's what his mind is for.
Extra Moves: Aqua Tail, Blizzard
Ability: Rock Head

Re: Tides Under Siege

All are good.

Mai, if you are going to be royalty (there is a difference, and I assumed royalty because you have a third move in your form), then all I need is your character's relation within the family.

Re: Tides Under Siege

Name:Angel
Age:26
Gender:Male.
Species:Kingdra
Occupation: Challenger to the throne.
Allegiance: Himself
Loyalty: Himself
Appearance: Deformed at birth, Angel was hideously scarred on the face.

Personality: Angry, frustrated at being denied the throne. Furious at an unfair life. Driven, strong willed.

Background: Angel was deformed at birth. His father had his mother killed, claiming her "unable to produce a suitable heir". He always hated the man after that. He also greatly dislikes his handsome and beautiful brother, who, though started out ugly like him, evolved into something great and wonderous. Inspired, Angel tried to find the illusive Dragon Scale, so he could be beautiful too. He trained night and day, and set off for two months into the caves to find one. And he succeeded. However, when evolved, he was still hideous-just powerful.

He trained all day and night, keeping away from the courts, as he hates the stares. He was overjoyed at his father's death, finally being given a chance to rule. However, now that the succession is unclear, he is determined to win his rightful crown by whatever means necessary.
Extra Moves: Substitute, Aurora Beam, Dragon Pulse.
Ability:Swift swim.
Other: Though Angel was born first, he was born deformed and his mother is dead. Rafael is much more liked by the general people, as he is beautiful

Re: Tides Under Siege

Done. It's a bit rushed, but I'll work on it later.
Edit: Also Mai you could be my secretary or something I don't really care

Re: Tides Under Siege

Sure! I'm trying to think of a proper relation to him that would make her unable to gain the throne but still want him to succeed anyway. I suppose I could just drop the dragon move and just have her be a noble, though.

Re: Tides Under Siege

Name: Teeka Antar
Age: 36
Gender: Male
Species: Vaporeon
Occupation: Mercenary
Allegiance: The Highest Bidder
Loyalty: N/A
Extra Moves: Signal Beam, Synchronoise
Ability: Water Absorb

Appearance: Image

Teeka is rather large for a Vaporeon, his impressive bulk thanks to his lineage; large numbers of Beartic are in his bloodline, and the only Eeveelutions are Glaceon and Vaporeon. His fur is thick and his muscles powerful, and his body is much more in tune with the Ice type than the average Vaporeon; as a result he is essentially a Water/Ice type.

He has fins on his elbows and ankles, and a ruff of fur around his neck, just over his neck fin. His colouration is also a tad different from average; his face has much more dark markings, and his paws are white, while his underbelly is mottled dark blue.

Personality: Teeka is a tough and stubborn man, his size lending to an aura of power that he seems to radiate. He doesn't talk all that much, and is a good listener, careful to mind any instructions he is given carefully.

he is also opportunistic and a little greedy, though he knows when to keep himself in check, though he's not above turning against his employers if a higher payment is offered...

Background: Born in a cold region far away, Teeka lived there for a number of years with his massive Vaporeon, Glaceon, and Beartic clan. Eventually, though, the powerful Vaporeon felt it was time to move on, and left his home to search for a purpose. He took quite well to being a 'hired gun' of sorts, due to his impressive battle skill, offering his skills to the highest bidder. He stumbled upon the harbour and its conflict after a while, hoping to profit from the struggle.

Other: Water/Ice type. - Muddy Water, Sand Attack. +Ice Beam, Hail

If this were a pain-in-the-butt old-fashioned kingdom thing where women don't inherit, you could be his sister, or something similar. Maybe a step-sister? Or a child that the old king had by someone not his wife. (I read waaay too many fantasy books.)

Re: Tides Under Siege

Name: Phish III
Age: 30
Gender: Male
Species: Crawdaunt
Occupation: Field Commander
Allegiance:None so far.
Loyalty: Uncertain due to his former Laoyalty to the King. Assumably whoever proves to win him over.
Appearance: As Phish is from the direct line of field commanders, his physical build has been, changed, due to rank. First, his head star is Platinum coloured instead of Gold/Yellow, his neck stripes are gold, and there are three, a third one below the first two. The tops of his notably larger claws are also gold, and he has stronger front legs to support attacks using his enormous claws. Phish also wears the traditional commander pendent, a claw that shares effects from quick claw and razor claw, but a lesser power.
Personality: Unlike his father and grandfather, Phish has a more lax attitude towards command, mainly due to a lack of threats from rival kingdoms. Despite this he ensures his soldiers are capable and fight loyally in any situation. His personality can be described as two sides of the dubloon. In a social setting he's quite polite, maybe a little too relaxed and quite freindly, in combat he's determined to succeed, and will often attack his foes witout hesitation, both verbally and physically.
Background: Phish is the third member of his family in a line Crawdaunt field commanders to bear this name. The previous two were his father and grandfather, also Crawdaunts. His great-grandfather was the only deviation in the bloodline, partly due to hois great-grandmother being the Field Commander of that time. His great grandfather was a Feraligatr military advisor to the reigning king. The relationship between the two added a much aiding move to the family line -Dragon Dance.

Phish was raised to lead and command platoons of soldiers against enemies, but never actually had an oppurtunity to truly test these skills due to his king's madness, and the rival kingdoms becoming disinterested in theirs because of a notable lack of threat. Phish, instead, developed a social identity to cover the battle experience his ancestors were privy to.

With the outbreak of the succesion crisis, Phish has found himself inbetween two princes, a peoples person who everyone likes, appealing to his sociable side, and an outcast warrior prince, who appeals to his lineage's side. Because of this, Phish is torn between the two.

Extra Moves: Dragon Dance, Brick Break
Ability: Adaptability
Other:
Phish's name is pronounced [PhEEsh]
Field Commander Move Privy: Rock Slide (If allowed)

Step-sister or sister sounds good, but I don't know the exact details of the kingdom. SE&F, are the dragon moves inherited (which would disclude the step-sister idea) or taught? And can a woman rule?

Re: Tides Under Siege

Mai: The dragon moves are a manifestation of the bloodline's ancient draconic ancestors. As such, one has to be blood-related.

Can women inherit titles and thus rule? The family is unusual in that the current head decides how inheritance is handled. However, the reason we're here is that the ruler died with essentially no instructions on what happens. However, it is normally a salic (only men trace inheritance) rule of some sort, usually salic primogeniture (oldest living son). That said, cognatic primogeniture (oldest living regardless of gender) has been used before, and due to that women have ruled before. However, it's rare enough that people have assumed that the former king wanted a male to ascend.

Short answer, yes, but you'd have to fight for it or be such a magnificent ruler that everyone looks past your gender.

Mendatt & Coroxn: Good job on building on the previous ruler being insane. Both accepted.

Cherry Bomb: Just needs an ability. I'd be willing to let him have an icy ability.

Lirris: We can assume that the previous rulers picked their marshals well, so Rock Slide is acceptable.

Vehement Mustelid: Awaiting your character.

Although I don't know why you folks feel the need to reserve a species.

Re: Tides Under Siege

Cool thankies!
Phish will be a fine commander, to whoever gains his support!
