Terrain: Castelia City Square

Castelia City is the gateway to Unova, its port welcoming trainers from around the world. Today those trainers include a fair number from Asber, turned out to compete or spectate on the first round of the League Championship. The city square at the center of Castelia has been reserved for the first round of battle, its broad cobbled expanse providing plenty of room to fight and the central fountain offering a refuge for pokémon that would rather swim than stand. Skyscrapers rise on all sides, framing the scene with the imposing prosperity of Castelia City.

More than just Asber's own trainers have turned out for the battles, though; plenty of curious Castelia residents and tourists mill about the rim of the arena, hoping to catch a few exciting battles. To ensure that they don't go unsatisfied, the regional authorities have generously--and forcefully--provided some of Unova's most powerful pokémon for the trainers to test-drive and show off for the crowd. Unfortunately, with the number of battles that need to be run through before the TCoD League's lease on the square expires, some of the fights might have to be truncated a bit.

For this battle, you will be using a pokémon on loan from the Unova League. Your choices are below. The first player will get first pick of pokémon, and the second will make their pick and then attack as usual. This match will be capped at five rounds. If both pokémon are still standing at the end of round five, the pokémon's health and energy will be added together and the one with the most will be declared the winner.

The pokémon:

Carracosta (M) <Solid Rock>
Audino (M) <Regenerator>
Seismitoad (M) <Poison Touch>
Jellicent (M) <Cursed Body>

picking Jellicent! (I will call him squishy and he shall be my squishy)

Apologies for late reply.
I choose Carracosta, for now particular reason. Use Scald, then Toxic, and finish with Crunch.

Although the battles in the first round of the TCoD League's League Championship haven't attracted a great deal of attention, a few die-hard fans have turned out to watch even fights between relative unknowns in the league. Coroxn, a new trainer, is one of these, but he's not going to back down, even against someone, like ultraviolet, who has much more experience. The two battlers stand across from one another even now, waiting for their match, at long last, to begin. When it finally does, Coroxn reveals that his rental pokémon for this match will be a hulking carracosta, while ultraviolet's selection is a jellicent. The two pokémon glance from one another to their unfamiliar trainers, a little nervous in front of the crowd but more excited than anything to be in battle. As the commands are given, they put on their best game faces and await the referee's signal to begin.

Squishy (M) <Cursed Body>
Health: 100%
Energy: 100%
Commands: Safeguard ~ Energy Ball ~ Energy Ball
- Floating nonchalantly above the cobbles.

Squishy isn't the most nimble pokémon around, but he still easily outstrips his prehistoric opponent and opens the match by casting a safeguard over himself. A shimmering veil of green energy hangs suspended in the air around the jellicent, protecting him from negative status.

Meanwhile, Carracosta's cheeks bulge as he draws up water for his first attack of the match. When he spits it at his opponent, it has been heated by some obscure internal mechanism to near-boiling, sure to sting even the most steadfast opponent. As a water type himself, though, Squishy isn't badly hurt by the scald attack, and needn't fear a burn with his safeguard in place.

He recovers quickly and raises his tentacles, rolling a ball of brilliant green energy between them. It's a rare water type that's able to manipulate life energy so directly, and Carracosta is both stunned and dismayed as he sees the energy ball taking shape. He does his best to shield himself from the attack, but it does little good. The pure grass energy burns into him, hindered somewhat by his ancient armor but still extremely painful.

Carracosta recovers slowly, but recover he does, and this time it is not water he dredges up, but a noxious mix of poisons. When he sprays them over Squishy, though, they have even less effect than the scald; the safeguard absorbs them all with barely a flicker, and the jellicent behind it remains unscathed.

Unscathed, and ready to launch another energy ball. Carracosta groans as he sees green light blossom between his opponent's tentacles, but once again there's not much he can do about it but wait for the energy ball to strike then get on with his business. At last he gets the chance to take a bite out of his opponent, and he gleefully lumbers forward and seizes one of Squishy's tentacles in his jaws, biting down with all his might and injecting dark energy deep into his opponent's flesh.

Squishy gurgles with displeasure and manages to tear his tentacle free, then floats back a bit to put some distance between himself and his opponent, frowning reproachfully at Carracosta all the while.

Confuse Ray, then Energy Ball. If Carracosta protects or something, use Acid Armor. If Confuse Ray misses or is protected or something, try it next action.

Confuse Ray/Energy Ball/Acid Armor x3

Protect the Confuse Ray. When he tries to use it again, close your eyes and cover them with your hands. The move works by distracting you with colourful lights, simply not seeing them should have you avoid this move. Apparently, he's going to use Acid Armour, or Confuse Ray again, I'm unsure. If he uses Confuse Ray again, do the wholecover your eyes thing thing, if that did not work then use Double Team. If he does anything else (attacks, ups stats, anything) use Double Team.

Carracosta raises his flippers in front of his face, extending an invisible bubble of pure energy from their tips to arc back over him and protect him against attacks from all directions. Seeing the carracosta's defensive stance, Squishy decides to forgo his confuse ray and instead excretes a thick mucus over the surface of his body, forming a surprisingly tough, durable outer coating.

Carracosta dispels his protect with an idle wave of his flippers, then ducks his head and hides it behind them again. Squishy burbles to himself in confusion; he's not quite sure what the rock-type is up to, but it looks like he's protecting, in some sense of the word. The jellicent adds another layer to his acid armor, leaving his body glistening with a new layer of slime.

Carracosta cautiously raises his head and watches Squishy, waiting to see what the jellicent will do. In turn, Squishy watches him. After a few seconds of standstill, Squishy decides he might as well try to get a confuse ray in by the end of the round. Even as his safeguard sputters and dies in the air around him, he raises a tentacle and kindles a golden spark of light on its tip. Carracosta immediately buries his face behind his flippers again, and even when Squishy launches the confuse ray, sending it to glimmer and dance in the air before Carracosta, the rock-type is completely protected from its perplexing effects. By the time he once again removes his flippers from his face, the enticing light has gone out and Squishy is muttering to himself, irritated.

Dig under the stone. You are a subterranean creature, so you should be able to judge the distance from your hole to the fountain, so come up through the fountain, draining the water and thereby immobilizing the Jellicent. If you succeed in draining the pool, use Crunch, if not, use Sandstorm to sweep across the field and hinder the foe.

Squishy's in the fountain? o.o I was under the impression he was floating around like a ghost and not dependent on water.

in any case, follow carracosta underground (phase through the dirt if you have to, but I imagine you could just float down the hole after him), throwing energy balls at him.

He is not listed as hovering, inherent or otherwise. I am hoping that that means he is confined to the fountain, or I don't see this ending well for me.

Negrek, can you clarify this? Because otherwise one of us is going to have... crappy commands and it'd be easier to just re-order.

Squishy is not confined to the fountain. He is a floaty ghost-octopus thing; he doesn't float high enough to actually be called inherently hovering, but he does not need to stay in water. I would have said something if he were in the fountain anyway.

Yes, if that's okay. I kind of thought I was just doomed. I can change them?
If so, than add these-
Use Sandstorm. Then, for your final two turns, if Squishy attacks (as in damaging dealing moves) respond with Crunch. If he does not use a damage dealing move, use Double Team.

EDIT: Negrek did describe your Jellicent as "- Floating nonchalantly above the cobbles", so I guess I have myself to blame for this mix-up.

Squishy's had enough mincing around trying to dazzle his opponent. It's time to go on the offensive, and the jellicent is quick to conjure up the attack that Carracosta likes least: an energy ball. Carracosta braces himself as he sees the brilliant green energy gathering between Squishy's tentacles, but to his relief and Squishy's consternation, the attack flies wide and smashes into the fountain instead of its intended target. Squishy gurgles his rage and gradually fades from view while Carracosta scrapes his flippers along the pavement and hurls all the dust and dirt he comes up with into the air. A gentle breeze lofts the detritus. Enlarged by a donation of Carracosta's energy, it blows up into a furious gale, shot through with enough sand, dust, and grit to block out the sun and turn the arena into a dark blur of stinging particles. Spectators yell in shock and scatter, stumbling over themselves in their haste to get away, their cries swept up and lost in the howling of the wind. Fortunately, the trainers and referee are protected by the power of the referee's remote and stand in their own islands of calm at the heart of the gale.

Squishy would dearly love such protection for himself as he squints through the blowing dirt, trying to figure out where his opponent is. Life is difficult enough for him as it is--it's all he can do not to be blown away outright by the gale, and as it is he sways and bobs erratically as he is buffeted by unexpected gusts. He nurses another energy ball between his tentacles, its green light giving him a slightly better view through the dust. At last he settles on the dark blur that he is sure must be Carracosta and lets the attack fly.

His aim is better this time, and the energy ball splatters against Carracosta's chest plate. Unfortunately, the sandtorm has by that point ripped it apart a fair amount, and it's nowhere near as powerful as it would be under clear conditions. Worse yet, Carracosta can see through the sandstorm much better than his opponent, and even though the ghost is now invisible, the direction from which the energy ball came is no mystery. Carracosta throws himself into an awkward run, drooling long ribbons of darkness as he goes, and doesn't stop until he bumps into something slimy in what looks like empty air.

Carracosta seizes at his unseen opponent, sinking teeth deep into a tentacle. He almost immediately lets go, however, gagging and spitting to clear his mouth of the foul mucous Squishy's used to increase his defense. The jellicent immediately retreats, hoping to lose his opponent in the sandstorm. Once again he sends an energy ball spinning through the air, and again it strikes, this time snapping Carracosta's head around as it strikes his cheek.

The armored turtle turns in the direction of the attack and makes another rush for his opponent, but Squishy is prepared this time. He lets the wind blow him out of Carracosta's path and watches with amusement as the rock type rushes on for some time, then finally stumbles to an exhausted halt, thwarted.
