Centrico Plaza is the crown jewel resting in the core of Lumiose City. Just the Prism Tower, standing at the very center of it, is already one of the most widely recognized landmarks of the entire region; and even the rest of the location isn't too shabby, with verdant gardens, beautifully patterned cobblestone pathes, the sound of the river running underneath the floor, and a surrounding circle of mid-height Kalosian houses, the splendorous local arquitecture adorning the plaza as a foil. Many businesses have come into being at the ground floors of the area, but today, the world-famous roundway of egg hatching is all Asber's, with barriers sealing off all of the many roads leading into the city's very own hub -- and of course, curious crowds gathering at the edges to watch the competition.

For this round of the tournament, each player has been loaned a fresh Pokémon from Kalos. Battles in this round will not last longer than five rounds; if neither Pokémon has fainted by the end of the fifth round, the winning trainer will be the one with the greatest sum of health and energy remaining on their Pokémon.

Bunnelby's trainer is late, and the rabbit Pokémon has fallen back on her usual standby in the face of insurmountable boredom: dazzling all fortunate enough to see with her talent of diligent, adorable bouncing. To Necrolai it's more like irritating, incessant bouncing, but thankfully Emperor_Evulz dashes into the plaza, panting, just as the Noibat is nearing the end of her rope. Emperor_Evulz quickly kneels down, attempting to get acquainted with her new partner with a shake of a paw and a pat on the head, but the Bunnelby is a bit too invested in her bouncing to cooperate. This continues for a moment or two, Necrolai growing more and more impatient for the battle to start all the while, but finally the referee shakes her head at Emperor_Evulz and raises her flags, signalling the start of the battle.

Boing. Boing. Boing.

Having been commanded to start the battle off doing what she does best (three guesses), Bunnelby immediately begins bouncing in a circle around the tower in the center of the plaza, dropping into a run on all fours instead when it becomes clear that her bouncing, no matter how charming, just won't give her the rush of speed she craves right now. She dashes around until her form becomes a blur to those watching, and when she slows down she gives her back legs a satisfying stretch, pleased to feel her muscles more supple and responsive than before. Perfect for more bouncing.

Boing. Boing. Boing.

Necrolai is now completely fed up with that sound. How has her opponent not worn herself out yet? Necrolai's worn out just having to listen. Good thing she's got the perfect move in store to stop this. Baring her tiny fangs, the Noibat gives off her best snarl as her fangs start to glow brightly, a tremendous amount of energy rushing into them. Bunnelby, lost in choreographing a new routine to some tune only she can hear, is completely oblivious to what's going on until she feels a sharp pain in her ruff mid-bounce. Crying out in shock, she turns her head to see the contorted face of her opponent, yellow eyes bugging out wide, right next to hers, and backs away with a scream. Necrolai steadfastly maintains her grip, however, until Bunnelby begins feeling too weak to stand, and as the Noibat finally releases her she drops back onto all fours, panting. It takes her, like, an entire second to spring up again, and in the art of bouncing that's just unacceptable. Clearly Bunnelby's not done warming up just yet. Sussing out her opponent, she focuses her attention on the Noibat's chest and readies herself, drawing back her right fist with a deep breath. As she exhales, she drives her fist forward into her target's left side, focusing more on the tension in her muscles than on actually hurting her opponent. Necrolai does fall back with a sharp cry, but more importantly, Bunnelby feels a bit stronger, enough to rear up onto her hind legs again and try an experimental bounce. Then another.

Boing. ... Boing. ... Boing.

Oh, that is it. How could Bunnelby still be up and springing after Necrolai's ultimate attack? Ears twitching in frustration at the noise, Necrolai can only think of one recourse available to her: escape. A few flaps of her wings and she's airborne again, and without a second thought she soars halfway up the side of the Prism Tower, stopping at a comfortable height where she can still see, but at least not hear, that ceaseless bouncing. Her opponent looks up at her in confusion, but Necrolai's no longer concerned with her. Closing her eyes to focus for a second, she flicks her ears back and forth to emit a series of ultrasonic rings, which, instead of disappearing, solidify and meld together to form a shimmering pink ball. Necrolai taps the shuddering mass lightly with her front fangs, and it suddenly springs to life, morphing to take on the appearance of an identical Noibat that perches awkwardly on the side of the tower. Necrolai gives her creation a quick nod, quite pleased with herself.

Meanwhile, down on the ground, Bunnelby looks at her left fist, then up at her opponent, then back at her fist, before shrugging to herself and going back to bouncing.

The newly-named Lola stares up at her opponent doubtfully, forgetting for a moment even to bounce. Even with her mightiest leap, how's she supposed to hit Necrolai up there? Well, she's gotta look good, both to her trainer and all her adoring fans out there, so she bends down and uses her ears to dig up a nice clump of soil from the ground beneath her. Rearing up onto her hind legs, she pricks her ears up as tall as she can get them, ears glowing a bright purple as they infuse the ball of mud with a steady stream of toxins from the reservoir of poison she apparently stores within them for just this sort of occasion. (Bunnelby, man. Who knows?) With a deep breath, she rocks her ears backward and then lets the attack fly with a defiant stomp of a back leg. The ball of goop soars through the air in a graceful arc, glittering droplets of poison sparkling like morning dew in its wake, and... lands on the ground a short distance from the tower with a sickening, final splat.

Up in the air, Necrolai snickers at Lola's futile attempts to strike her as she tries to take a short break and relax, which is actually not so fun when she has to beat her wings to stay afloat every few seconds. Nevertheless, she feels a little refreshed as she peers down at her opponent, considering her next move. Faintly she sees the sunlight glinting off a nearly-transparent bubble of energy that Lola has summoned up to surround herself. Fine. Necrolai has better things to do than attack that silly rabbit, anyway. Like whizzing around the Prism Tower in pointless circles. The Noibat proceeds to do just that, her Substitute following close behind, both spiralling tighter and tighter around the tower and feeling their wings grow swifter and more responsive with each loop. (At least, Necrolai does. She hopes her new friend is enjoying this jaunt around the tower as well.)

Growing a bit dizzy watching Necrolai and her doppelganger circle the tower, Lola taps a back foot impatiently, waiting for her to come to a stop so she can attack. Finally the Noibat obliges, and Lola closes her eyes to focus the energy of her surroundings, summoning up a ball of white light that hovers between her ears. Opening her eyes again to scout out her opponent, the Bunnelby bends her legs and then springs a short distance into the air, launching forth a glittering beam of white light at the peak of her trajectory. Now that's gotta do it. However, the impact Lola dreams of is not to be, as the stream of light undershoots Necrolai by a mile, flying pointlessly off into the distance. Meanwhile Necrolai continues to drift about unconcerned in the air, mirrored by her Substitute, cackling down at her opponent all the while.

Notes

• It would've been pretty difficult for Lola to hit Necrolai so high up in the air with any old regular projectile attack that doesn't have that specific effect even if her commands had given some justification for why that should work, though she tried her best since she had no other commands. Similarly, Necrolai wouldn't have been able to attack Lola with Dragon Pulse from that height without using extra energy (and being commanded) to swoop down to aim the attack and then swoop back up, so she opted for Chill instead.
• It's getting tiring for Necrolai to stay aloft, so she's started expending 1% energy per action (as of action 2) to maintain that height and it was more difficult for her to Chill. The energy recovered from Chill will continue to decrease as she stays airborne for longer periods of time.
• It didn't fit into the narrative, which was sad, but the speed boost from Lola's Agility wore off after the third action, meaning that Necrolai is now faster.
• Emperor_Evulz commands first this round.

Sproing... sproing...

The sounds aren't really there, since Lola's owner thinks for some reason that she needs a break (of all the ridiculous notions), but the Bunnelby imagines them as she shifts up and down slightly on her back legs, preparing for a few deep breathing exercises. After all, all expert bouncers must be 100% in tune with their bodies. Lola knows.

Unfortunately, her meticulously-planned meditation session is not to be, as Necrolai promptly divebombs her from above. Hard. Really hard. With force Lola wasn't expecting from the bat Pokémon at all. The impact throws her clear across the plaza, where she lies sprawled on the cobblestones for what feels like an eternity, vision blurring in and out from the pain. Lola frantically reaches for her trusty Oran Berry, swallowing it whole in a desperate bid to regain her strength, but when she finally manages to struggle to a half-crouching position, stars explode in her vision and she promptly hunches over again in agony. She's just going to have to try to regain her bearings lying down. So Lola takes one deep breath. Then another.

And then something slams into her side with the force of a THOUSAND SPEEDING STEAM ENGINES (that's what it feels like at the moment, anyway) and she snaps her eyes open to find herself face-to-face with a pair of huge yellow eyes. Lola yelps with shock and fear and flails about weakly, attempting to drag herself away with her front paws, until the weight abruptly leaves her and the eyes (and what's attached to them) hop away with a satisfied chirp. Oh yeah. It's just her... no-good, stinking opponent! Lola hoists herself to her feet in indignation. She'll show her! In fact, she's got the perfect move in store! More bouncing!

Lola scrutinizes her opponent, using her ears to measure wind speed and near-instantaneously calculating the perfect trajectory in her head (good thing she majored in anime physics!) before kicking off the ground with her mightiest leap, catapulting into the air at an angle of exactly 78 degrees to the horizontal. She careens back down toward Necrolai feet-first, and all's looking good, until... the substitute that she'd completely forgotten about throws itself into her path with reckless abandon, and she makes contact with an underwhelming squish before rolling off the thing onto the ground.

Necrolai giggles to herself as Lola dusts herself off and spits out a mouthful of dirt, before charging up a wing with Fighting-type energy again, barreling straight at the Bunnelby to give her a smack right between the ears. Lola cries out and sways to one side, nearly toppling over. Pathetic. To make clear her disdain for her opponent, the Noibat pointedly turns her back and perches daintily on the ground (secretly glad to have a place to rest after her extended mid-air jaunt). Lola launches herself up into the air again, bearing down on her at what might normally have been a frightening speed, but Necrolai simply watches in disinterest as her substitute reforms itself to leap up from the ground and take the full brunt of the attack before splattering into pieces for good. Oh well.

Necrolai watches her opponent closely, checking for any signs of trickery before beginning her attack. Unfortunately, what awaits her instead is the sound that now threatens to fill her worst nightmares...

Boing.

Yet again, Lola kicks off into the air, and Necrolai is so frustrated with this ridiculous bunny and her constant bouncing that she doesn't even remember what she was planning to do before. She stomps a clawed foot on the ground and then hisses in annoyance as she lifts it again to inspect a chipped nail. This day is just getting worse and worse!

And then, you know, Lola bears down humungous-feet-first onto Necrolai's head, crushing her body into the ground. Necrolai screeches in pain and flails her wings to no effect, unable to escape from the weight of the oversized bunny pinning her down. At last Lola rolls off of her and she slowly climbs back to her feet, shaking like a leaf from the shock and pain of nearly being CRUSHED TO DEATH by this... CREATURE. Well, this attitude certainly isn't very dignified. It would be unseemly to let the opponent see her fear. Giving the Bunnelby one last glare, Necrolai quickly dusts herself off with a huff. And then huffs again. And then puffs, the sharp exhale forcing traces of glimmering green smoke out of her nostrils. She opens her mouth, revealing a ball of brilliant green Dragon-type energy that she's been charging up there, sending it rushing forth with a sharp cry. The energy ball collides and then melts over Lola in a swath of draconic flame, who yelps in pain as the wisps of flame scorch her fur. The Bunnelby drops to the earth and rolls around in an attempt to put the flames out, and Necrolai smirks to herself in satisfaction.

The joke's on Necrolai once Lola recovers herself, however, as the Bunnelby, after a quick look around the plaza, rushes over to the archway of the Prism Tower and throws herself against it repeatedly, pummelling the wall with her hands and feet, until she manages to dislodge several large hunks of rock that she launches straight toward Necrolai. Watching residents gasp at the damage that's being done to their precious tower, but Necrolai has other things on her mind as the rocks come tumbling down on her, pinning her body to the ground. She squeals in agony as her wings are crushed under the weight of the rocks, sharp edges scraping up mercilessly against her skin. Each attempt at movement just results in more pain as she scratches herself against the stone, but eventually Necrolai manages to thrash her way out from beneath, wasting no further time in charging up a wing with a burst of Fighting-type energy and speeding toward her opponent to give her yet another smack on the back of the head. Lola cries out and tumbles over, attempting to shield her head from any further blows with her paws. Necrolai has none of that in mind for now, however, and instead flutters a short distance off to more closely inspect the damage done to her wings in peace.

Lola peeks out timidly from beneath her paws and uses an ear to sweep the ground in front of her, testing for her opponent's presence. Whew. All clear. With that settled, Lola springs back to her feet, chest heaving from the effort it takes her simply to remain upright. She stomps a back foot firmly into the ground once, twice, three times, sending several large jagged pieces of cobblestone flying into the air. The stones remain eerily suspended in place for a short moment until Lola wills them forth, a rush of earthly energy accompanying them as they batter into Necrolai from behind, sharp edges piercing her skin and wings as she screams out in agony. The Noibat slumps to the ground, panting, and scrabbles about for her Oran Berry, wasting no time in tearing into it to replenish herself before carelessly scattering the peel on the pavement some distance away.

Lola's ears fly up in shock and rage. That litterer! How could she be so unappreciative of her food?! Starving Bunnelby everywhere would clamour to get their paws on those remains — and Lola does just that. Weariness temporarily forgotten, she darts forward to pick up what's left of the Oran Berry, stuffing it hastily into her cheek pouches.

Necrolai watches this with shock and rage of her own. That was her precious prize! It wasn't Lola's to steal, even if Necrolai was a little wasteful with it! How uncouth! The Noibat positively simmers with anger... perhaps a bit too much, as bright green draconic flames literally explode from her body to surround her. Blinded as much by the swathes of flame as her own fury, Necrolai throws herself uncontrollably forward, clawing outward at the first — and really, only — target she can reach. Lola squeals and scrambles backward on all fours, but finds herself utterly unable to escape Necrolai's uncontainable fury. In fact, it's only the bit of juice from her pilfered berry that keeps her from flat-out keeling over as a result of the assault. That should show Necrolai right. Y...yeah.

Exhausted and nearly unable to stand, Lola summons up all her strength to slam both hind legs against the earth one last time, calling forth another crowd of rugged cobblestones to pummel her foe. She collapses back to the ground, breathing heavily from the effort, and can do nothing but watch as steam erupts from Necrolai's nostrils and the bat rampages toward her again, battering every inch of Lola's body with appendages wreathed in flame until she gives in to the blackness and drifts off.
