I'm in the middle of writing my novel, and I've had some really huge writing sprees over the past week or two, getting four good chapters done in the space of a month. But now that the story starts moving, I cannot seem to get anything down.

Basically, the two main characters have finished the pre-amble, and the story has finished setting the backdrop up, and I'm trying to get something decent down to describe how they set off of on their journey, but nothing seems to work. I had a scene about a dusty road with sparse vegetation, but that turned into a desert and became rubbish, because nothing was getting done.

Ack, I'm not explaining this well; it might help to read the last chapter before the characters leave. Click here for the dA posting, or here for the TCoD posting if that didn't work.

Any help or techniques on getting rid of this accursed block, or any suggestions that are specific to my story? Thanks.
 
Perhaps you should read for a while, if you haven't been.
 
Yes, I have been; I read two of the books of Paradise Lost and the first few chapters of Brisingr. It normally helps; but I just can't seem to get going. After that, the momentum normally lasts a good half a chapter.
 
Write a bunch of crap and get to the more interesting bits. You can go back to it later. o/

I don't know what else to suggest. But I admire you for reading two books of Paradise Lost voluntarily.
 
Tailsy's advice has helped hugely, and yours, Ruby, has helped, but on a lesser scale. Thanks :)

And yeah, I've read the first four books of the poem. It takes a while though; it's bloody heavy reading.
 
I've gotten over it for good (or for now at least). You can probably see that the chapters aren't as good as some others, but they can be edited later. They are both up now for those interested as well.
