Arena: Large Bowl of Shio Ramen

You knew it was coming. When it's a Linoonian battlefield, it's gotta be food. And what's better than a bowl of hot, freshly made, delicious shio ramen made with the finest ingredients and love for ramen-lovers?

The ramen bowl, for those of you unfamiliar with ramen, is a large, porcelain bowl with the top opening diameter about twice as long as the bottom diameter. For battling purposes, it is a few hundred times bigger than your average bowl and can fit two wailords smugly side by side. The bowl is black, with beautiful designs on the side and a large Japanese kanji character meaning "noodle" on the bottom, although it's not like anyone will see it.

This particular battle field was made with the good stuff -- not those icky store-bought instant noodles, but actual ramen made with actual noodles and actual meat and actual soup. The noodles fill almost the whole bowl, and are quite long and delicious. Cooked to a perfect al dente, the yellow ramen noodles are firm to the bite and slightly chewy, just like ramen noodles are supposed to be. The noodles are soaked in a light, clear Shio broth that has been made from boiling plenty of vegetables, chicken, fish, seaweed, and, of course, salt. The broth is light to the taste and savory, and, despite being called "shio ramen" (meaning salt ramen), the soup is not very salty at all. Instead, its flavor is perfectly balanced between light and salty, giving it a pleasing taste. The ramen is topped with six slices of thinly cut pork, tender enough to seemingly melt in one’s mouth, and some fresh vegetables: cabbage, bean sprouts, and a sprinkle of green onions and leeks.

The Large Bowl of Shio Ramen, being freshly made, is still steaming hot, and any pokemon stepping on the ramen or in the soup will be dealt 5% damage per round and hovering pokemon that are still relatively close to the surface will be dealt 2% damage per round for the first five rounds. Afterwards, the ramen will have cooled down slightly and will deal 1% damage per round for all pokemon directly on the ramen and no damage for hovering pokemon for the rest of the battle. The ramen is, of course, edible, as well as everything else inside the bowl, and each item has a different effect upon being ingested. Eating the pork slice will give the pokemon +1 Attack, eating the vegetables will give the pokemon +1 Special Attack, eating the noodles will give the pokemon 10% energy, while drinking the soup will give the pokemon 5% health. The attack and special attack boosts act like regular boosts and cannot exceed the +- 6 limit and can be lowered by moves such as Growl. The food items don’t magically grow back after being eaten, so they will gradually disappear as the battle progresses. This can be used strategically to a battler’s advantage: one can order one’s pokemon to drink lots of soup and leave the opponent’s water-dependent pokemon flopping on dry ramen. There is a catch though: a pokemon can only eat 10 times before it becomes too full to eat anymore, so eat wisely.

Other: Extra soup can be requested for water-dependent pokemon.

Porygon are known as the virtual pokemon -- besides being the first pokemon created by humans, they basically live their lives in electronic equipment and can even turn themselves into data. Because of their special ability to work in cyberspace, porygons are widely used to help write programs, fight viruses, and even hack into other computers. However, the most common usage for porygon is actually as a browser for the internet. A porygon can connect itself (provided that it has the permission to) to the internet and access the numerous data in many different servers around the world, obtaining information otherwise inaccessible, chat with people in the other side of the globe, or perhaps just play online flash games. However the cheaper or free connections are usually flooded with porygon, all trying to get to the internet without paying. This cause the information flow to slow down, causing most porygon to be extremely sluggish and slow.

However, Death Cannon's owner had decided to spend some cash and bought some broad band high-speed internet connection for its porygon. Death Cannon can now access the internet faster than ever, giving it an edge in battle as well as the ability to load The Cave of Dragonflies Forums in under a second. Death Cannon's owner isn't the only one who decided to buy broad band connection though; sometimes, too many people will decide to go on the internet at once and cause clogging, thus lowering Death Cannon's speed.

Effects: Death Cannon gains +2 Speed at the beginning of a battle, although, every round, there is a 15% chance of that its speed will go down by 1. The speed boost is not permanent, meaning that attacks such as Scary Face can lower it, although it still cannot reach past the +- 6 limit.

Right after Negrek almost deleted this one, too. Thanks, Blastoise.

Hm. Think I'll lead with Marta, then.

Whee~ Thanks, Blastoise! Now if only TCoD will load properly more often... And, erm, I think it's probably my fault for forgetting about changing the bottom part of my profile, but Zigzag is a Linoone now...

Anyway, I'll, for obvious reasons, send out Riley the Riolu.

Let's start out with some nice Force Palms; smash that bunny into the noodles for maybe extra burn damage if you can, but if you can't, a few nice whacks on the head works, too. If the bunny Protects, Digs, or Bounces up so you can't hit it, Bulk Up instead. If it has clones from a Double Team or something, spray out Hidden Power and burn through those clones.

Nice and simple, yes yes? Then let's gooooo~

Force Palm/Bulk Up/Hidden Power ~ Force Palm/Bulk Up/Hidden Power ~ Force Palm/Bulk Up/Hidden Power

Protect against the first force palm, forcing Riley to use bulk up. Then, since you're faster than he is, you should have no problem getting in an encore and locking him into it for a while. Don't worry, we'll deal with those silly boosts later. End with thunderbolt and see if you can't paralyze him.

Oh, and assuming that the size of the bowl means the rim is wide enough to stand on, or that there's someplace else you can stand that isn't steaming ramen (that kind of wasn't made clear, now I think about it...), kindly stay on that for now. No sense getting your little lucky rabbit's feet burned so early on, is there?

In a whoosh of displaced atmosphere and Psychic energy, a young, brown-haired boy appears, clutching the arm of a bemused-looking Mr. Mime. After making sure that the referee is okay, the League-issued Mr. Mime disappears again. Clutching his stomach queasily, Blastoise looks around for the first time. Where did Crazy Linoone get these giant meals? This one smelled heavenly.

What was that speck on the horizon? As he waited, the speck became more and more detailed, until it revealed itself to be a… Linoone? Oh, yes, that was right: Crazy Linoone was an actual, walking, talking Linoone, and a trainer, for that matter. And she was being held around the waist by a pair of Drifloon, by the looks of it. And there was Kratos Aurion, famed referee and the single richest ASB citizen, flying in on a Dragonite.
After some brief greetings, the battlers take their sides of the field. Kratos carefully treads her way left, nearly falling into the fragrant soup at least once or twice. Crazy Linoone, however, goes right, reverting to all fours to manage. The referee pulls out a set of car keys and presses the bottom button twice.
A trio of narutos float into view, presenting themselves for the participants to clamber onto, which they reluctantly do.

Kratos pulls a Pokéball off of her belt, feet unsteady on the fish product, and carefully raps it against the rim of the bowl. A rabbit forms from the white light. The Buneary shuffles her feet in surprise at the stifling warmth, but quickly manages to get her sweaty game face firmly in place.

Linoone pulls a Pokéball from the folds of her star-spangled cloak. Experimentally tossing it into the bowl, she releases Riley. The Riolu smiles goofily before noticing the food. Mmmm… Wait. The delicious food was also very hot. It hurt his feet…

Marta, after curiously glancing around again, shuts her eyes tightly and focuses. A green shimmer appears around her, barely visible in the steam and heat haze of the ramen. She smiles contentedly and waits for her next cue.

Still hopping from foot to foot, and looking as much a rabbit as Marta, Riley channels Fighting-type energy into his paw. But wait. Was that a Protect? It looked like one… Hmmph. Better safe than sorry, Riley supposes. Concentrating on speeding his metabolic rate, the Riolu visibly grows, layers of thick muscle sprouting beneath his fur. How powerful he felt. And, plus, his feet didn’t hurt quite so much anymore!

Rather disappointed that her move didn’t work, Marta employs a different tact. Fluffing up her coat, she begins clapping wildly, almost tripping in the process. Quickly recovering from her klutziness, the Buneary begins to shout to her opponent about how she was so impressed by that last move and oh couldn’t he just do it one more time it was so awesome!

Rather flustered at the rabbit’s sudden approval, Riley thinks; He had looked pretty impressive, and it had helped with his heat problems… What could it hurt? His master probably didn’t know just how awesome Bulk Up made him look. As if on an instant replay, Riley speeds his body again, gaining another layer of impressive muscle.

Grinning from her position on the side of the bowl, Marta rubs her arms against her cottony ear; a spark loosed from her body, almost invisible, and shot into the sky. A moment later, white lightning snaps down, seeking its target: Riley. The Thunderbolt strikes true, and fries the poor Fighting-type.

Blinking groggily as thunder rolls above, Riley shakes his head to clear his thoughts and immediately regrets it; his brain is in an uproar of Loudredian proportions. He would show that two-timing, passive-aggressive rabbit that tricks, well, weren’t meant for bunnies! Managing to concentrate yet again, the addled canine add yet another thick layer of muscle to his now-hulking body. How did she like that, eh? But this bulk was starting to get a bit old... He'd like to actually start attacking next round.

Lovely work, Marta. Now, let's use that bouncy bunny speed to give Riley one more encore--you are, of course, dreadfully sorry for interrupting his macho posturing and will never ever disrespect him so again does this face look like the face of a liar of course not. If he protects or uses magic coat eat a vegetable, and if he tries to use quick attack or vacuum wave or you don't think encore will work then make him feel like a horrible horrible person with fake tears. If encore didn't work or has already ended then just whale on him with thunderbolt; if it did work, chill and watch him do his awesome... bulk up stuff. If Riley isn't encored and he protects, eat another vegetable. Finish with another thunderbolt, but if he's still encored then wait for him to finish before you attack him; use shadow ball instead of thunderbolt if he's paralyzed. Chill if he protects.

:/ Kratos you evil evil man.

Quick Attack + Force Palm first either way; you've Bulk Uped enough to do some nice damage. See if you can knock the Buneary off the rim of the bowl while you're at it. The extra speed boost should make the Force Palm more powerful or something cool like that. Follow with some more Force Palms, and try to knock the Buneary off the bowl if you haven't done so already. Yeah yeah Fake Tears whatever.

Riley cracks his paw-knuckles, Fighting-type energy flowing into one paw. He begins to sprint blindingly fast over the ramen, newfound muscles lending him extra speed. The mountain-crossing Pokémon jumped at his opponent, paw outstretched...

Meanwhile, Marta readies herself for her ironic repeat performance. Why, she was so charming it would have to work and wait what was that blur–!

Riley smashes into the Buneary, slamming her backwards hard enough to send her careening over the edge. She screams in a piercing, squeaky tone that would bring pity to the heart of a serial killer. Acting quickly, the referee calls up another, smaller naruto, which catches the falling rabbit and lifts her back to safety, dumping her back onto the rim of the bowl. Blastoise waves his flags, with a chiding look at
Riley's trainer, and the battle continues.

Marta finally manages to focus her eyes after trying for at least several seconds, which was much too long for someone not to be able to uncross their eyes, in her opinion. Where was she, again? Oh, right: Encore. But hadn't her trainer wanted to Encore Bulk Up? And that last Attack was pretty Quick, so... Fake Tears it was. Giving into her pain and gravity-related trauma, she lets tears, as salty as the ramen below her, flow from her eyes. She wails like a toddler, lower lip quivering.

Riley pauses. Did he hurt her that badly? What a wuss; probably too afraid to even attack from far away. Leisurely readying his paw again, the Riolu trots briskly back towards the Buneary, preparing to attack again. He’s interrupted, however, by a little problem; not much of anything, just a gigantic streak of lightning zapping its way through his nerve endings.

Wincing and staggering slightly, Riley retaliates, jumping into the air, latching onto the side of the bowl with his claws and striking the Buneary between her ears, sending a wave of numbing agony through her short frame. It wasn’t quite enough to knock her off of the bowl this time, to the thankfulness of the battlers (except maybe Crazy Linoone). As it is, she falls on her rabbit rump.

As Riley scratches himself proudly below, Marta freezes jerkily in her attempt to stand. This was weird. And uncomfortable. But maybe if she just tried moving again… Straining with all of her might, the lagomorph manages to rub her arms together jerkily, sparks crackling ironically. A particularly large one looses itself from its pack and shoots into the heavens. It snaps back down just as quickly, striking the Riolu in a flurry of light and sound.

Ouch.

Paralysis! Take that, Kratos! >:D

Let's take advantage of the Buneary's loss of speed and deal some nice damage this round. Brick Break all the way through, unless the Buneary uses Facade, which then Counter. However, if the Buneary is about to use Encore, abuse your speed and use Brick Break before it can use Encore. If you can't hit it due to Bounce, Dig, Protect, or whatever other reason not including Substitute, drink some soup.

Brick Break/Counter/drink soup ~ Brick Break/Counter/drink soup ~ Brick Break/Counter/drink soup

Poor Linoone, under the illusion that this situation is in any way disadvantageous. Granted, it would be even easier if Marta had heal bell (damn you March 14th), but there is, as they say, more than one way to skin a cat!

First order of business--we won't be moving this round. It won't guarantee that we can completely avoid parafailing, but it helps. Thunderbolt three times, nice and simple. Try your best to chill if you find yourself fully paralyzed; don't worry if that happens. Trust me, everything is under control.

Thunderbolt/Chill ~ Thunderbolt/Chill ~ Thunderbolt/Chill

Also, Blastoise--why did Riley's special defense only drop by 1? Fake tears causes a two-level drop. Given your description it looks like it failed entirely. When I first skimmed it I thought Marta had used shadow ball and gotten the one-level drop there, but no, she used thunderbolt the whole time. So what happened? If that's not a typo, you need to remember to explain why something only had a partial effect in your notes.

Typo. And I may have went at a different angle with Fake Tears; Riley didn't seem like he'd be very sympathetic, so I made it work slightly differently.

Riley quickly begins scratching himself, attempting to get his electrified fur to stop standing on end. It was all of these stupid electric attacks that were messing with his beautiful pelt. Locking eyes with the twitching, annoying rabbit, Riley leaps from a chunk of pork, over some steaming leeks, and clambers up the smooth side of the bowl. Grinning malevolently at Marta, who is paralyzed below him, the Riolu delivers a series of quick, powerful jabs at the Buneary, hitting a couple of key nerve clusters. Satisfied with his attack, Riley steps backwards to better observe his opponent’s suffering.

Still squealing in pain, Marta manages to focus her eyes on her opponent and twitchily rub her long right ear against her curled-up left one. Once again, a near-invisible spark crackles through the air, only to fall back downwards tenfold as a roaring gash of electricity. Riley had only just enough time to think, Oh, no, not again! before he was convulsing on the rim of the bowl, electricity wreaking havoc on his nervous system.

Blinking hard and shaking his fur back into place, Riley carefully heaves himself to his back paws, angrier than ever. This spam of lightning was getting really old, really fast. Trotting over to Kratos Aurion’s Pokémon once more, Riley Brick Breaks again, knocking what little wind the wheezing Marta has regained out of her lungs once more. Two could play at the repetition game, thinks the Riolu, panting slightly in amusement.

Cottony fur crackled and snapped like cellophane. As Marta’s arms rub together, a heavenly ruckus rises from the sky, sending down, yet again, a fork of lightning to go coursing through Riley’s spinal cord. He yelps, leaping involuntarily as untold volumes of electrical energy run through his neurons. When he lands back-first onto the ramen bowl’s rim, the smell of singed fur is distinctive even over the enchanting scent of shio ramen.

Shaking off a sense of both extreme annoyance and déjà vu, Riley staggers forth to attack, sending three sharp blows into the bruised surface of Marta’s body, bony outcroppings on his fists digging into the Buneary’s damaged skin.

Marta, although still in deep pain from the volley of an attack, can’t help but feel a little bit more limber. Sure, she still had that strange, jerking feeling of paralysis, and she wouldn’t be running any marathons soon, but maybe she’d try a physical attack next turn. Swiping her paw against her woolly ‘skirt’, Marta summoned another Thunderbolt, which struck Riley with enough force to nearly send him spasming off the side of the bowl. He righted himself at the last possible second, however, just short of taking a nosedive into the still-hot Japanese soup.

·Riley was only one point away from falling off on that last action.
·No one has eaten anything yet, which is kind of weird.
·Both Pokémon are on the rim.
·This was a rather repetitive round, eh?
·Kratos attacks.
·Linoone attacks.

Does Riley still have -2 special defense or has it started to go back up?

And much as I'd like to go on like this, I have to wonder whether Marta's really lost enough health. 10% damage a hit seems awfully low, all things considered.

What Kratos said, really; by my calculations, the Brick Breaks should be dealing more than 12% damage each. Also, the Thunderbolts seem to be dealing quite a bit more damage than it should with only -1 Sp. Def.

gah i suck please don't kill me

Yeah, although I fixed my typo from last time on here, I forgot to update it on my Word file, so... fixed. I'm sorry for my ineptitude.

Excellent work. Now thunderbolt, protect and shadow ball, and attempt to chill if you're fully paralyzed.

Thunderbolt/chill ~ Protect/chill ~ Shadow Ball/chill

:/ Kratos is an evil man/woman/genderless thing.

Mind Reader first, then, while it protects, Feint + Cross Chop BECAUSE WE CAN. Wait for the Buneary to put up the protect before you attack though, because if it's paralyzed and can't Protect, Drain Punch + Cross Chop instead.

Mind Reader ~ (wait for the Protect) Feint + Cross Chop/Drain Punch + Cross Chop

Riley looks warily at his muscle-locked opponent, and gives another, slightly more incredulous look at his Linoonian trainer. Mind Reader? When he was only a few feet away? Oh, well, he's sure that she has some good reasoning; she is the trainer after all. Setting himself up in a firm stance, the Riolu stares intently at his opponent. His aura detectors glow slightly and fly into the air as if whipped by a strong wing. The Riolu begins looking for any telltale signs as to what Marta''ll be doing next...

Not much, as it seems. The fuzzy-wuzzy ball of pwecious fwuff sits dazedly on the ground, twitching occasionally. She doesn't even have enough muscle control to muster a Thunderbolt... Well, time to Chill, she supposes. Breathing deeply through her amazingly cute pink nose, the rabbit attempts to relax her tingling, buzzing muscles. This seems to have some effect, as the lagomorph feels a bit less worn out than before.

Riley the Riolu reviews his commands while he waits for Marta to make her move. He has to wait for a Protect... But all that Marta seems to be doing is, well, sitting there, again, breathing deeply like an irritating little Meditite. It was rather irritating, really, the way she wasn't even participating... Well, he would tech her bunny butt a lesson. He crosses his front paws and makes a short jump, paws glowing with an aura normally reserved for a Drain Punch attack. The sides of his paws both slam into Marta's side in quick succession, crushing her and sapping off a bit of energy to boot. The rabbit responds with a heartrending little squeak of pain.

Riley stands a few feet from his opponent, panting a bit with his tongue lolling out. That was fun.

Marta, however, seems to have a different opinion. She wasn't going to take that lying down... Well, she already had, but that was beside the point. The rabbit struggles to her feet, steadies herself as the blood rushes from her head, and clutches her paws together. She twists her paws in a strange and rather unsettling matter, and soon a ball of Dark energy coalesces there. The Buneary gives an underhanded toss which propels the orb much farther than it has any right to; it slams at high speed into Riley's furred chest, tossing him backwards and off the rim of the bowl. The canine lands on a hill of ramen, and doesn't seem to be too unhappy with that arrangement.

Notes:
· The health gain of the Drain Chop was canceled out by the Shadow Ball.
· Marta was paralyzed fully for two actions.
· Linoone attacks.
· Kratos attacks.
· I ref and hop I didn't make another mistake. Also, I'm sorry for the month-long delay; it certainly didn't feel that long and I am a royal procrastinator...

damn straight you posted now or else Boss Giovanni was going to have to fire someone up in here Botch

No big deal. Sorry for keeping you waiting for your own match as well; I'm still having access hiccups, but I should at least be able to start writing it, even if I can't post it, this weekend. :/

Anyway, I attacked first last time and so Linoone should attack first now.

rightrightright that was a lapse of memory on my part. I copypasted the last reffing and used that as a template and forgot to switch that around. I'll be right on it, boss!
