Open Darkness Rising

Melpomene snorted as the Umbreon ignored her completely, yelled at the Grimer, and wandered off. The edges of her zipper dipped down in what could be called an annoyed frown, and her red eyes glowed for a moment, as did her mark. What and annoying creature. She put him on her mental list of things to kill later.

Then the little Azurill spoke, and she turned to face him, surveying him with interest. He was most interesting, a tiny little mystery in a squishy blue body. She decided to take him under her proverbial wing. He had been crying, then switched to cheerful again in nearly a split second. She curved the ends of her zipper upwards in a smile, but it faltered when his words sunk in.

"You're our leader, right? You're the Chosen One, that's what they said."

That was right...her annoyance at the Umbreon had somehow made her forget that fact for a moment. The fox had disrespected her, and that meant disrespecting Lord Giratina and the entire army. She darted forward towards Fenos with claws at the ready, but didn't sink them into his flesh, oh no. Another lesson was in order for him. Instead, she grabbed hold of his throat and lifted him into the air, razor sharp claws quivering at his skin.

>Listen to me, weakling. I am not going to kill you, but if you continue this pattern of behavior, you will wish I had. I am the Chosen One, the Godwife of our Lord and Master, and my word is as good as the word of Giratina himself, so you will listen to me, understand?< Her psychic voice hissed, her red eyes narrowing and glowing brightly in the red moonlight, the light shining off her zipper with a deadly sheen.

((:x she's a little crazy.))

Akabari hung near the forest edge, away from the crowd. He was a bit surprised by the large number of pokemon here. He had never knew that there were so many Darkness creatures here; then again, most who made themselves known were soon killed by the Light. There was a curiosity in the group though, and that seemed to be drawing attention -- an Azurill, a Light. Akabari watched from a distance, carefully studying the small blue mouse as he chattered cheerfully with a group of curious onlookers. Something seemed strangely off about the Azurill. A Light like him shouldn't be so happily helping the Darkness, and there seemed to be dark intentions beneath the Azurill's smiling face. Akabari shuddered, turning his eyes away. Whatever. If the Azurill wanted to help, then fine. It looks pretty weak and shouldn't be hard to get rid of, if it comes to that.

The Absol turned his sight back to the sky, marveling at the wondrous darkness as it slowly ate away the moon. Giratina's prophecy had said the Darkness will rise again, and the sign was here. Yet nothing special seemed to be happening --

Then the sky warped.

Dark tendrils spread across the sky, covering the red moon and leaving the field in a complete darkness. The air seemed to be sucked up towards the sky as a powerful wind began to blow. Trees rustling and leaves flying, the darkness swirled faster and faster, forming a whirlpool as a massive energy gathered in the center. Then, the darkness extended and stretched towards the middle of the clearing, swirling and twisting all the while. A large humanoid creature formed from the dark energies, its red collar stained dark with blood. Powerful ghostly energies radiated from the creature as it stumbled forwards, wheezing. "C... Cr..." The creature gasped, but it was cut of with a blinding flash of light.

The red moon glowed brighter and brighter, its light rays burning through the dark veil of the sky until Akabari was forced to turn away from the sight. The darkness melted away as the light intensified, and Night became as bright as Day. The Night sky warped, crackled, broke, the dark pieces falling and sizzling in the horrible light. The red moon hung high over it all, half gone but still shining, and a creature shaped like the half moon appeared. The creature floated gently down, its three pink rings glowing red like the moon.

The light was blinding, and Akabari could feel it burning into his skin. It was absurd. Light should have no power in the Night, so why was it so bright?

The dark creature from before stood up, a cape of darkness bellowing behind him, casting a safe shadow for the gathering Creatures of the Darkness. Akabari found his sight returning as the shadow soothed over him and his allies, and, while he still could not look directly into the light, he could hear the powerful creatures as they spoke.

The Light one begun first. "Arceus has ordered me to destroy the gathering Army of Darkness." Its voice was light and feminine. "Your resistance is futile, Darkrai. Your Darkness cannot defeat my Light, and you know that."

Darkrai chuckled coldly. "Yes, but I am not alone. The Army --" he gestured at the crowd of pokemon "-- is gathering. Your power is at its weakest tonight, and you cannot defeat the Army by yourself, Cresselia." Darkrai turned to the crowd of pokemon and addressed them directly. "Come, fellow soldiers. It is time to rise up and defeat the Light."

Cresselia merely smiled and floated down, hovering a mere inch above the ground. A blue glowing orb of energy gathered in her mouth, then she fired the Aurora Beam straight at the Darkness pokemon.

((You can attack and control Cresselia, but remember, keep it real! Don't make Cresselia go down with one hit, and your pokemon can be injured, too!))

Fenos knew when he was out-matched. "I.....understand." he barely retorted, almost unable to breathe. "But..... mind this.....That Azurril..... isn't right." Fenos finished. He quickly freed himself from the respectable creatures grasp and turned to the Cresselia. "We need to attack it." He moved around quickly until his Double Team was complete. All five of Fenos's clones then charged up a Shadow Ball and attacked simultaneously.

((Boss Fight! l:}>))

Luno was whipped several feet into the air as a horrible wind blew, bending trees. And then, some horrible Light. What was this blasphemy in his kinds' hour of strength?

Almost in answer, Cresselia, the disgusting Light, and the Master himself appeared. At the command of Darkrai, Lunoso mixed a wicked cocktail of acidic poison and toxic juices in his cavernous mouth, the stench staining the air like a plague of locusts. Stretching his body to a towering height, the grimer attacked with a Gunk Shot, his most powerful non-damaging attack.

His poisonous projectile slammed home into the accursed Cresselia's flank, the deep purple staining her side.

"Looks like Cresselia just got a dark side!" shouted the Poison-type gleefully.

((Double double post!))

The scene felt apocalyptic. Meletios was blown off the branch he was perched on by a heavy wind. The night sky started falling to pieces at that point, and he hid under some trees to avoid the blinding light that laid everything bare. The bright light near the group faded back into deep darkness as a large Pokemon stood up. There was another form standing opposite of it. Meletios made them out to be Darkrai and Cresselia, and didn't need Darkrai's urging to figure out what to do.

A rainbow beam came out of Cresselia's mouth and straight at the group. Meletios took off, but not quickly enough for the aurora beam to strike his tail feathers. The cold immediately rippled through him.

A Grimer in the group, the one who seemed to be fooling around, fired a poison attack at Cresselia and hit. Having, mostly, recovered from the light Pokemon's ice attack, he saw his opening, ascended, and came down on Cresselia using assurance. While the poison attack didn't do much to the psychic-type, it did boost Meletios' attack further. He flew away after the strike, but Cresselia took note of his location surprisingly quickly and fired another aurora beam at Meletios. This one grazed his wing, and he dived below the forest canopy as another wave of cold shot through his body.

Cresselia dodged all but two and Fenos wasn't finished. That foul beast had come at a really bad time. It liked light so much? Fenos was still furious at that group of pokemon, and channeled all its anger into one shot." Sorry, friends, this is gonna be really bright!"
The umbreon shot out the most powerful Zap Cannon it had ever used. Yes! Cresselia was paralyzed! "ATTACK!" Fenos couldn't help but blurting out.

Ocent never got his answer.

Perhaps mere moments- or countless hours -after asking that question, he found himself in another place. Facing him was the sworn enemy of Nightmares: Cresselia.

Our first obstacle, Ocent thought, calling upon his dark powers all the while, or rather, our first target. Or perhaps meal would be a better option. We'll have to think that over later. In the meantime...

"Ominous Wind!" He yelled, and as he let out this screech, a dark gale emitted from his fissure. Ocent spent several moments building up its power to a hurricane-level gale and was just about ready to blast it at Cresselia when-

Wham.

Ocent was struck by an Aurora Beam fired off by Cresselia after the unstable Umbreon blasted her with Zap Cannon. The shock of the blast caused Ocent's concentration to waver, and in that instant he lost control over the gale.

What happened next was only natural: the Ominous Wind erupted into a hurricane with Ocent at its eye. Though the winds would only last for a good fifteen to twenty seconds, those in the vicinity of the wind would be in for a surprise.

(( Assuming we're going by ASB attack descriptions, here, unless an RP interpretation makes more sense. ))

The harsh wind seemed like it could lift Phren off the ground. The darkness made Phren unable to see, because his body was of the Light, but even pokemon of the Light were blinded when the Light was too much. The darkness did not cause pain; light did, even to its own. But it only burned his eyes - he closed his eyes, and it was still uncomfortably bright but it did not hurt, though he could imagine that if he was in his original body, as he often wished, it would burn.

A comfortable shadow was cast over them, and the blinding-through-eyelids light vanished. After a moment, when coloured spots stopped dancing in his vision, Phren opened his eyes.

Darkrai. Cresselia.

Though they were creatures of the dark and light, respectively, they were both of the night. Cresselia commanded the moon, the greatest light in the darkness, and perhaps that was the reason Night was never truly safe. He could not completely see the once-comforting moon any longer; he could only see hints of the blinding light, because if the light could reach his eyes the shadow would not be covering him. It hurt to just look at the almost-brightness that he could see.

"Arceus has ordered me to destroy the gathering Army of Darkness." Cresselia's voice was light, feminine, comforting (like the moon had been, before it grew harsh and blinding). It must have been the azurill that thought so. "Your resistance is futile, Darkrai. Your Darkness cannot defeat my Light, and you know that." In her voice Phren could hear honesty and rightness. That only spoke of her belief in the Light, but it made him almost want to believe, too. Fortunately, he knew better, but he could pretend otherwise, if he wanted.

Darkrai's response was a chuckle - cold, enough so that the azurill wanted to shrink away and bask in Cresselia's protection. Like most of the Dark, it was not that he thought he was doing the objectively right thing; he understood the pain he might cause, perhaps, and he might even realise that it was not justified, because there was no true justice. He did it for more selfish reasons - if it was really for his people, it was because he valued those of the Dark over the Light, not because he thought they were truly more important. "Yes, but I am not alone," Darkrai said. His voice was more powerful, which Phren liked. "The Army is gathering. Your power is at its weakest tonight, and you cannot defeat the Army by yourself, Cresselia." Darkrai turned to the Army and spoke to them directly, and Phren knew with certainty (hadn't he always?) which side he belonged to. "Come, fellow soldiers. It is time to rise up and defeat the Light."

Yes, that was what he would do, but how? He could feign betrayal, and that would make it easier to strike Cresselia from close range. He might even be able to do it more than once, if he successfully pretended it was not his fault. But the problem with apparent betrayal was that if the others believed it too, they would attack him and he could not survive that. If he allowed enough hints of falseness to seep through, Cresselia might see and understand.

Or maybe not, because Cresselia floated down, barely above the ground; an earthquake might even strike her, if a powerful pokemon used it, because it would certainly move the ground enough. She opened her mouth, and blue light shone from within, a growing orb that Phren knew meant a beam attack. Colours flickered throughout the orb. When the beam came, it seemed to do little but shine some light in Darkrai's shadow, because although the beam shot within the Army's midst, the Army was a group of scattered pokemon and not merely a large mass. Phren would not be surprised if it struck no one.

The grimer shot a dripping liquid mass that left a stain on the cresselia's body; five umbreon charged up a familiar shadowy ball of ethereal energy. A murkrow dove at Cresselia, covered in dark energy, but was then almost struck by a second aurora beam and vanished.

Phren didn't know how much the aurora beam would hurt, but he did not want to find out. Aurora beam was powerful enough, and Phren did not much have a resistance to the cold like half of his tribe had. He'd always been physically stronger than most azurill, instead. Encore was a bad idea, at least until she used something else, and he did not command enough respect to give orders. He bounced over to the one who did, instead: Miss Melpomene. If anything came to him, he could say it and maybe she would, as well; if not, then perhaps he'd have her protection.

There was a bright flash and crackle, and almost miraculously, Cresselia was struck, and then her movements became odd and jerky. Even so, though, Phren knew that most special attacks could be used even when one could not move. Aurora beam would be harder to aim, and psychic did not work on dark-types, yet even so... another aurora beam cut through the darkness and struck a spiritomb. A vicious wind shot out, awakened spirits flying everywhere, but they could not touch Phren even if they wanted to.

The attack was wild and unfocused, so it did not seem to hurt their opponent very much. A softly glowing green haze seemed to surround Cresselia, and he pegged it as a safeguard. Perhaps it would not stop the paralysis, but it would prevent anything else that one might think to use.

Phren did not think to attack, yet. Instead, he began to move in a strange dance known amongst the marill tribe, which the azumarill taught all the toung ones. He felt the great systems that controlled all weather shift slightly. The moves were unimportant, ultimately, and just memorised steps that made this easier. He thought of the water moving in its great cycle, of the clouds thickening and the rain falling, and he focused on that. His steps - for he was no longer bouncing, but was instead moving on his feet - probably represented it in some abstract way. The clouds thickened, darkened, and closed in on the red moon. If he could dim this light so it did not blind him, that would be all he needed. But he didn't have the control of an azumarill, and he felt the first few drops of rain that were then followed by torrenting sheets from the sky.

It was a shame that he had no support moves; with this weak body, it would have been useful. But this he could do.

It was not all useful; the double team clones disappeared when the water hit them, but it didn't matter because he doubted they'd really help if Cresselia wanted to get rid of them - Cresselia could probably use swift, in any case, to determine the real umbreon. Besides, Phren didn't like the umbreon much, or not knowing whether the shadow ball that struck was real or just a double team illusion.

Cresselia didn't seem bothered, because she seemed to have a plan. She stared right at Phren, it seemed, eyes glowing pink, but it was Miss Melpomene with which she formed a psychic link the ghost could not escape. Suddenly it was the banette's movements that were jerky and difficult, and Cresselia could move perfectly. "I should have remembered," Cresselia said in her musical voice. "I will not forget again."

Now two small lights formed in her mouth, red and blue, then she shot it at the umbreon that had attacked her. Signal beam, Phren knew, much more effective against dark-types. It would hurt him, too, though, and he felt useless again. If he attacked, one strike would knock him out.

Instead, he let out a loud wail. "Heeeeeelp!" he cried, loud enough for Cresselia to hear even over the rain. "Help, Cresselia, help me! I don't know where I am! I woke up and I was here and surrounded by all these evil guys, Cresselia, I wanna go home, help me!" Tears flowed freely from his eyes, this time, but they couldn't be seen behind the rain. He'd been behind Miss Melpomene before so maybe Cresselia hadn't seen...? "Save me!"

Dark power laced his words, but it was subtle. He could see her expression shift to one of slight sympathy, and he could see her dropping her guard ever-so-slightly. Fake tears meant his attack against her would be rather powerful, but it also increased the effectiveness of anyone else's moves, at leas the first time, before she remembered where she was.

Summary: It is raining. Cresselia is protected by safeguard and is no longer paralysed. Melpomene is paralysed. Cresselia is being affected by fake tears for the moment, so special attacks will catch her by surprise. Fenos no longer has any illusory clones, and any double teams used while it rains will be destroyed immediately.

Melpomene hissed and spun on the spot when the two legendaries appeared, not caring if or when she dropped the Umbreon. A soft growled curse flickered from her mental network, and she readied her claws, blackness oozing off them and fading away into the night. She could see and hear and feel attacks from all around, a twisting chaos of uncoordinated moves and disjointed strategies. She lowered herself closer to the ground, and watched, managing to escape notice well enough.

The fooling Umbreon attacked Cresselia with Shadow Ball, then Zap Cannon...That was a foolish move, psychic types possessed many ways of being rid of status. The Grimer from before used some kind of poison attack, not effective but probably all he could do. She felt an Ominous Wind from somewhere, but couldn't locate the source. Cresselia didn't seem to be weakened that badly... Melpomene growled again and got ready to attack, when it started to rain.

She glanced behind her, and noted the little Azurill. Not bad for a little one like he was. When she turned back, however, she found herself face to face with Cresselia's glowing eyes, and jerked back in surprise. She soon found it hard to move her limbs, like she was being held back by some force...Paralysis! She swore again and glared at the Umbreon.

>You! You foolish beast, you should have known better! If we survive this, you will be getting such a thrashing from me. < She roared through the psychic stream, trying to make herself move.

She finally managed to shake off the paralysis, at least for a moment, and lunge at Cresselia, a Shadow Claw aimed at her neck. The claws dug in and released a fount of blood, and the ghost type withdrew, feeling the paralysis starting to return. She could hear Cresselia yell in pain, and she smiled.

>How do you like the bite of the mighty Godwife's claws, eh, you beast?<

(( Last resort can only be used under certain circumstances; either all your moves have been used or your pokemon is extremely tired/hurt, but come on, at least give it one of the restrictions that make sense. Therefore I call for us all to ignore that post. ))

Naturally, paralysis wouldn't stop Miss Melpomene, and she dug her claws into the Cresselia's neck. Blood leaked from the wound, but not too much, so it was not a severe attack; still, it made Phren miss his claws. He did not miss it nearly as much when Cresselia blasted Miss Melpomene back with psychic power, though. > It will not stop me, < Cresselia responded mentally, probably just showing off.

Phren winced, but then he hopped onto his tail and leapt forward. "Cresselia, help me," he repeated. "I don't know what I'm doing here. They said things and I thought the Darkness was right but now you're here and I know the truth and I don't want to be here any more."

"Don't worry, little one," Cresselia said, voice sounding genuinely kind and loving, although there was some hesitation, as if she suspected. But she did not know, and she erred on the side of caring for one that appeared of the Light. "I will protect you. Come, in the embrace of the light, for the clouds can never block all of the moon's light when it is as bright as the sun."

Phren hopped closer, cutting off the tears and instead opting for a very, very quick charging of a shadow ball. It was important that he was not seen generating it, even if it was weaker than it had to be. A ball of ethereal energy suddenly formed before him, and then rocketed toward Cresselia. It struck her in the chest, and she winced. Her eyes widened in surprise.

Phren did his best to cut off her thoughts with his scream. "What happened?" he yelled. His voice quickened, and and the intervals between gasps shortened. "I don't know what happened, what did they do?" Oh, this was way too much fun. "They did something! I know they did, why is that - what was - did I hurt you? They made me hurt you? I didn't want - I can't!" He finished with another wail.

Vanxir kept leaping through the trees until his ears twitched. He heard the sounds of a battle. Already, his primal blood fought to wrench control of his body from his mind. But he suppressed it by taking slow, deep breaths. Eventually, the noises became louder until he saw Cresselia fighting some other denizens of darkness. He was perched above her on a branch.

It's time he thought with a smirk as his claws turn a malevolent purple. With a loud battle cry, he launched himself from his vantage point and slashed at Cresselia with a Night Slash. As he landed, he was no longer Vanxir, but he was the hunter, his worst enemy; his primal self.

Lucidia suddenly felt a huge wind blow past her short pelt. She nearly fell over; such a small Pokemon wouldn't stand a chance against a gale like that if it was an actual attack. She dug her claws into the ground to avoid being blown away. It seemed that it was over almost as fast as it had begun, though; two creatures had emerged from the clearing. Before Lucidia could assess the situation, a battle broke out; it was the army of Darkness against... the girly pink thing. Oh, well; it was stronger than it looked, that was all Lucidia knew.

She mentally scanned her repertoire of moves to find out what would be super effective. Apparently the enemy was a being of the Light, so it could be anything but Dark, Ghost and Poison, and a less likely exclusion of Fire, Steel and a few others. Its pink and yellow coloration made her guess Psychic, but she couldn't know for sure.

Whatever type it was, Lucidia knew a move that would deal a lot of damage; she had a whole bunch of allies with her, so why not Beat Up? Carefully, she slipped into the shadows, attempting to take it from behind... Side? Close enough. When she was as close as she could get without making a noise more than quiet, she pounced, and when she was almost upon Cresselia, called, "Beat Up!"

Suddenly, Requiem stopped moving. Cautiously, she narrowed her eyes at the sky as the last bit of the moon was eaten by the dark. A strong wind picked up, and she cringed, knowing it wouldn't be good for a ghost type like her.

...Murmuring? From where? A deep voice, and then a female one... how odd. Wait... the light!? Requiem flinched, noticing that a larger shape was coming into view. It was round, but also looked a bit like a Girafarig. Except it had rings around it. "Huh?" she grunted, as if asking herself a question. "What is that?" And... then she looked up again. "Why did the sky shatter?" But what she was about to say next was cut off when she was impacted with some cold beam. Letting out a cry, she was forced back, stopping for just a moment. But then, she knew... it was time to fight. That had been Aurora Beam, correct? The Mismagius felt weakened; it had probably lowered her Attack. "No matter," she growled to herself, her amber eyes flaring with anger. She fought with special attacks anyway.

Quickly, Requiem began to search for a time to attack. Cresselia was being hit by attacks over and over, but didn't seem to take much damage from any of them. Passing the time, Requiem seemed to sing mysteriously, in a slightly flat tone. This Lucky Chant would keep the Darkness from taking any critical hits -- it might have given them an advantage. As she finished, rain began to pelt the landscape around the Darkness, but Requiem didn't feel much of it. She was already pretty cold...

There. After the Azurill had charged; that was when Cresselia seemed stunned. Quickly, Requiem fired an unstable mass of purplish shadow towards Cresselia, doing her best to focus on aim. That Shadow Ball might have done the trick, but Requiem couldn't be sure. She had to just watch....

As Meletios took flight again, a sudden wind shear lashed at him, and he was hurled towards the canopy. He barely regained control of himself, as the sudden winds, laced with energy, died down. Gaining altitude, he quickly assessed the situation. A green sphere surrounded Cresselia. Though it was fading, it's presence still worried Meletios.

A shaky, pulsating sphere of ghostly energy charged at Cresselia. While it might've been easily dodged, at that moment the lunar Pokemon was struck by a physical attack, Meletios couldn't quite see the source. The shadow ball pelted Cresselia, and at that moment, shadowy figures in shapes Meletios couldn't make out simultaneously struck Cresselia.

"And now's my opening.", Meletios noted. He homed in on Cresselia for the assurance strike, encapsulated by dark energy. It hit home, and really hurt due to the previous strikes. However, Meletios didn't escape unpunished. Cresselia lashed out with one of her wings, and slashed Meletios. While the blow might've been a grievous wound in normal circumstances, a peculiar melody resounded through Meletios' head. He barely managed to flitter away instead of simply falling to the ground.

Darkness.

That was all Er could think about as he rushed towards the sounds of battle. A battle, oooohhhhhh what FUN!!, he thought to himself. As came and saw other creatures of darkness battling Cresselia, he quickly joined, running in and leaping at the legendary viciously. He spread his fingers in a claw like manner as they glowed purple and slashed Cresselia. The poison Jab was sure to do some damage, but he needed to be sure, so just as he landed, he rolled out of the way of any oncoming attacks, and fired and ice beam at her.

After considering the reply of the Spiritomb, Holoc went to answer. Before he could do anything. He got hit by an powerful wind, throwing him back towards into a tree. His head was thrown against it, knocking him out. For what may have been Seconds, minutes or perhaps hours, Holoc was unconscious. When he woke up, the battle had progressed some. He finally saw the aggressor, Cresselia.

Most of the Darkness Pokemon had started to fight, so he decided to run up and join in. He started to focus shadows from around him into his left forepaws, the claws on them expanding slightly with a dark aura, before he jumped up and slashed Cresselia with an effective Shadow Claw attack on the area below it's head. He jumped down only to be struck by a powerful beam of ice energy, flinging him onto his side.
'Whoa! i didn't see that coming! Stupid creature of light!' he thought to himself before righting himself onto his feet, locking eyes with the Crescent Pokemon and shouting at it. "I. WILL. DESTROY. YOU. I swear to god, if it's the last thing i do, i will wipe out you and your stupid kin of the light as well." He looked at the other darkness Pokemon, hoping that they would be strong enough to help, especially the Azurill.

Er chuckled as his ice beam came close to hitting another pokemon, but the chuckle disappeared when the Nidorino stood there screaming at Cresselia instead of attacking her. "Hey! If you're going to destroy her, do it now instead of talking about it! And stop staring at the others," he shouted at the Nidorino, before jumping at Cresselia again, this time aiming two kicks at her face, causing him to turn heads down, with his back towards Cresselia, but before he landed, he skillfully twisted himself towards her, threw a focus punch at her, and righted himself, sliding back as he landed solidly on his feet. He landed with an audible thud, being as heavy as he was. Then it started to rain, and though Er hated the rain, he found that it might be useful. He shot a thunder at Cresselia and wondered if anyone would get in the way, as the Nidorino had almost done with his ice beam. Er sat back and waited...

Iles looked around in shock.

How did I just notice what's happening? I shouldn't have been thinking...about him. she thought, He'd want me to fight that light being....right?

A ball of sludge started to form in her mouth as she watched the light creature in curiousity.

Okay, strike....now! she yelled in her mind, unleashing the giant ball of poisonous goop and bodily fluids.

She looked over to the little Azurill, who was going on about his attack on Cresselia. He seemed in fear.

He's acting so young and...dare I say, adorable. But something just seems wrong here Iles thought, Must not get caught in my thoughts now. Be prepared for everything, Iles.

Phren sniffled. Though Cresselia could not help but keep an eye on him with worry (or could it be wariness? He did not know), and was thus distracted from the others attacking her, she was also distracted from him by the attacks. Her attention was scattered, which meant he couldn't manipulate her as well as others. Of course, he hadn't started off in a good situation in the first place, and overall it was probably better that the others were around to attack and take hits. There was no way Phren could defeat her on his own.

(But that wasn't true.)

Phren leapt closer to Cresselia, wearing a desperate expression, but he didn't cry this time - he didn't think it would do too much. It wasn't the right situation to effectively look charming and adorable, but he could try and prevent her from attacking him. He had an idea, but he would not execute it himself.

He wanted to get to Miss Melpomene to suggest orders, but she was too close to the Cresselia, and he did not want to shout them. He'd have to communicate without the Cresselia hearing, but he also didn't want them to realise it was him. Then he remembered - his telepathic voice sounded as it originally did, if weaker due to his current form, and it would take a skilled psychic to trace it back to him. And Cresselia was distracted, so even if he couldn't stop her from hearing, she would not know.

> Fools! < He tried to make it booming, but it came out raspy and hoarse, even in the mind. > Physical attacks? You will all get in the way. Do you not see? Special attacks, ranged attacks, can hit her without risk of harming each other, and they will be more powerful. < You know, stating the obvious, because it would help even if no one listened to the next part. > But this is only necessary if none of you will make the sacrifice. Many of you know an easy method of making her unconscious: we call it destiny bond. She is powerful, and a few attacks can make you faint, perhaps a single one - use this to your advantage! Did you learn nothing from your lives in Darkness? Everything you have, your weaknesses and strengths, can be used to your advantage. If you begin with substitute and taunt, you improve your chances of success, but it is not necessary. Destiny bond! If she is unconscious, if she cannot defend herself, it is then that your claws and fangs may tear into her throat! Is there no trust among you? < No, actually, there probably wasn't. They weren't comrades; they were just allies, and they all thought of themselves, Phren guessed.

> It matters not! The true question is not a matter of trust. It is a matter of loyalty. Do you serve your master, Giratina? Do you serve the Darkness? Do you fight the Light? Who here is loyal? Show me! <

Well, Phren certainly wasn't, but surely there was someone both willing and able. He was irritated to find that telepathy was more difficult than it usually was, though; he was hardly able to move. Of course, his expression of worry and helplessness would hopefully convey that he was only really capable of physical attacks, because that was the truth. His ghostly abilities were limited, and he didn't want to use them too often. He also lacked full control over the azurill's underdeveloped water sac, so he couldn't even use a bubble or water gun.

Another possibility came to him. It wasn't as useful as a destiny bond, but others might be more willing to use it. Of course, this was limited to ghosts.

> If nothing else, lay a curse upon her! Many curses, if you wish, if there is more than one willing to make a sacrifice for the Darkness. You are of the Dark! Your strength lies not in pure power like the light, the overwhelming numbers, the lack of thought. You are of the Dark! So prove it! <

Talking was more tiring than it had ever been, and Phren fell off his tail. He got up right away, though he didn't feel as energetic as he had before. Right now, he was rather content to just lay back and watch.

It was fortunate that telepathy could communicate much more quickly than verbal speech. If he'd tried to say it, he'd be talking for several minutes, and by then it was possible for the battle to be over. With thought, it took less than ten seconds - pokemon could still attack a few times, but they would clearly get the message.

(( Phren is this world's first pokemon trainer.

I do have a defence! A lot of dark moves are all strategy-like, the poison status is useful, and ghosts can both phase and ghost moves also do tactical things like inflicting status and blocking moves. These things would be considered cheap by the Light, but more importantly it implies the pokemon are made for strategising. They ought to be, as a whole, more clever than the Light, and since they're weaker and outnumbered, they have to be. Dark > ghost > poison in this sense, imo, but any of them has the capacity. ))

Fenos was stumped. What to do? That's it! If he put it to sleep, the Cresselia couldn't make eye contact! But how to get close enough? Of course! The umbreon started clawing at the ground until he made a burrow He continued this the whole way there. "It'll take a while, but when I get there, I'll do something really cool." Fenos said to himself. But that Rain Dance had made the ground very muddy.
