• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Mafia

...She's coding some special thing for the Game Masters, I think, which is why it's taking so long to open. I need to locate the exact post though to confirm that. :/

Some people actually sent me the full rules so I've got them, but mostly I'm planning to write a special hack to make the Mafia work much more smoothly (easier approval and joining of games, mostly automated game mastering and night actions to prevent screwups while allowing the GM to type out death messages and such, automatically preventing people who are dead from posting, automated notices to remind people that a Mafia game they've signed up for is starting or that there's a new game or they need to send in new night actions, and so on). I had pretty much all my work on it (not that much, but a start) destroyed a while ago in a power outage, but I'll start over later and get it done when I can.

You ever played the real-life game Mafia (could have also been known under a different name, though, like Werewolf or Murder)? If you've ever been to camp or something camp-like, I bet you have. In a nutshell, one (or more) of the players is picked to be the Mafia/killer, and each "night" in the game they pick one non-Mafia, or Innocent, to kill. The next "day" the Innocents all discuss things and pick one (or more, depending on the size of the game) player to kill. It's the Innocents' goal to get rid of the Mafia and the Mafia's goal to get rid of the Innocents.

The Internet version has a lot of new roles and stuff that would make playing a real-life version of it incredibly slow and boring, but the real-life version has so few "interesting" roles (the Mafia and, in some cases, a Doctor/Angel that can pick one player to protect from a Mafia attack and a Police/Detective that can pick who s/he thinks is Mafia and is told if s/he is correct) that playing like that on the Internet would make it boring.

Mafia's a terrific game, though, and I recommend playing if you've got the time and dedication (particularly the dedication - Mafia on Wands and Worlds tend to go "unnoticed" for days, but here everybody participates on a regular basis... ¬_¬). :D

But how does the actual mafia internet version work. I know its something along the lines of getting killed (kicked out) on their suspicion of somebody.

During the night, the Mafia (and everyone else with a role, but for simplicity's sake I'm only going to talk about the Mafia and Innocents) decide who to "kill" (meaning that player can no longer participate and is only useful for determining motive and the like for the Innocents) and send a PM saying as much to the Game Master, who then proceeds to post a topic that shows that that person is dead and whether or not they were Mafia. Every player in the game then has a chance to talk and determine who they think is a member of the Mafia. The player with the most votes - "nominations" - will then be killed and it will be stated whether or not they were Mafia. The next night begins - rinse and repeat.

Sorry if that doesn't fully explain it... if that doesn't, maybe this (there's no quote feature on W&W, so I did quotes as brackets) will help? It's the dialogue of the first ever official TCoD Mafia, converted to Warriors and with simplified death scenes. I posted it on Wands and Worlds because I was extremely annoyed at how the people of W&W had a tendency to nominate people during the day discussion and think absolutely nothing of it, so I tried to show what I was really actually looking for in terms of day discussion. :[ (I notice the roles aren't mentioned there - they can be found here... the rules/roles mentioned there are, additionally, the latest official versions of the TCoD rules/roles converted into Warriors, and I was one of the people who sent them to Butterfree.)

It's been a while and I'm working on other stuff, though I've basically sketched out what the database structure needs to be like and such.
