Mosh Pit Free-For-All Battle

During a brief lull in the action where the trainers puzzle over their battle strategy, it is discovered that not one, but three of the original fifteen are missing. A brief search ensues, but it seems they aren't playing whack-an-alligator or the crane game over by the door, nor are they dining on greasy pizza and fries over in the food court, nor even exchanging their tickets for one of the giant pikachu plushies. In fact, they seem to have disappeared without a trace, leaving their pokémon disoriented and alone.

Edward, Grizzle, and Fondue are retrieved from the Mosh Pit, and the battle is resumed, with the odds of winning suddenly significantly better for the twelve remaining pokémon and their trainers.

Skylark, Big Red Cherry Bomb, and Dave Strider are disqualified. This has a significant impact on some people's commands, so I'm allowing a three-day revision period. If you want to change your pokémon's commands, send me a new set within three days and I'll use them instead of the old ones. I won't give a DQ warning before I stop accepting new commands, and if I get any after the three days are up, I'll just quietly delete them.

Well, with Edward gone I guess I'm the most vulnerable battler!

...

fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucccccccccccccccccccccccccckkkkk

While the trainers are off looking for the missing battlers and the pokemon idle, itching to get back to fighting, Rachel abruptly returns to its normal size. No one save the staryu itself notices the change, and it has no observable effect save the shifting of a few foam blocks. Rachel itself is, of course, rather miffed. What on earth would have caused its minimize to vanish, almost as though it had never existed in the first place?

The staryu has little time to contemplate, though; the next round begins soon enough. At the bottom of the pit, Mole-estation peers cautiously into the tear in the plastic that Gorouna created last round, then slides through it and plops onto the floor beneath. There's another hole here, torn through tile and concrete, and the diglett's target is, presumably, waiting at the bottom. As stealthily as possible, Mole-estation scuttles across the floor and lowers herself halfway down the tunnel, hoping that Gorouna won't notice her proximity.

Unfortunately, it's fairly difficult to miss a diglett butt suddenly plugging up your tunnel, and for all Mole-estation's silence, Gorouna knows that something is obstructing the mouth of her hole--probably an opponent. She prepares to summon up a rock slide to crush the intruder, reaching out to the stone lying in wait in the ground around her. Try as she might, though, she just can't seem to liven it up into a respectable rock slide. It's as though she's developed a weirdly specific mental block, one that's snuffed out her knowledge of rock slide but left most of her other attacks intact.

Back on the surface, Penicillin has decided that he's had enough pretending to be brave and taking a beating for it. He's going to do what any sensible ill and beaten meowth would do--run and hide, and hope that his opponents don't consider him worth ferreting out to finish off. He sets off digging his way into the pit, foam shapes flying in all directions as he tunnels downward at top speed. Luckily, he misses the other pokémon lurking in the middle levels of the pit, carving out his own private cranny amidst the foam. Feeling much more secure than before, he rests at the bottom of his hole, trying to catch his breath despite illness and injury.

In the meantime, Rachel has gotten over its puzzlement at its sudden increase in size. For a brief moment, the staryu's core whirls with light and color, a miniature echo of the galaxy from which it draws its power. As the light fades, the staryu's body and mind are reinforced by some power obscure, a boon of its continuing connection with the heavens.

While Penicillin chose to run, Acionyx intends to take things into his own hands and finish off Nyasha before another pokemon swings in to steal his glory. The skelitten races forward, ignoring Nyasha's light screen, and seizes the largest egg he sees in his jaws. The exeggcute lets out desperate sounds of protest as the skelitten bites down hard. The boosted crunch attack is too much for the seared and brittle egg, and with the shattering of the egg swarm's leader, Nyasha's will is broken. The exeggcute gives in to unconsciousness and is swiftly recalled, leaving Acionyx to clean yolk from his face in a self-satisfied manner.

Nyasha's elimination leaves Anmi suddenly without a target for her flame burst. She knows by some obscure instinct that with the exeggcute out of the picture, her next target should be Mole-estation! But the diglett is long gone, by now somewhere far under her feet, and there's simply no way Anmi can reach her with her flames. A bit perplexed, the vulpix takes a seat and decides to wait for a bit and see if a solution presents itself. Nearby, Sheila is facing a similar problem: while she wasn't paying attention, Penicillin has disappeared from view. At this distance, it is impossible to see the hole into which the meowth has vanished, and even if she could, Sheila wouldn't be able to shove an inferno down its narrow bore. Perplexed, the vulpix joins her counterpart in sitting around and waiting for an opponent to present itself. And, to make this action a total wash for the fire types, Ganondorf finds himself in a rather similar situation, called upon to attack only those pokémon that have gone subterranean or fainted. At least everyone else seems to be taking a break--he doesn't feel too silly doing so himself.

Tiamat, on the other hand, doesn't need a target for her hydro pump. She's hoping to turn the pool of foam into a swimming pool, and in order to do that all she needs to do is add a bit of water. Aiming blindly towards the bottom of the pit, the vaporeon unleashes a powerful hydro pump. The attack is fierce indeed--perhaps a little too fierce, as the flimsy plastic liner of the pit gives way before the concentrated blast of water. The hydro pump gushes out into the clear air below the pit, rapidly flooding the area under the pit and giving Mole-estation an unwelcome spraying. When it dies down, the area below the pit is left covered in a thin layer of water, with scattered blocks and balls sitting soggily in it, and Tiamat has a clear view, through an open tunnel ringed with soggy foam, to the floor.

Eevee hears a faint hissing from below but pays it no mind. He has the same problem as Anmi: a command to attack Nyasha, the vague feeling that he should be going after Mole-estation! instead, and ready access to neither of them. While the eevee waits and ponders, Not a Creeper does likewise. Alone in the foam save for his substitute, the lileep sees no one to give a tentacle-y hug, whether one of his stated targets or otherwise. He raises his head on its long, stretchy neck, poking it up above the foam like a periscope. Nope, nobody he's supposed to attack up here, either. He's in a favorable position, however, and content to sit and wait while the other pokémon tire themselves out with their fighting.

Of course, Penicillin's not going to get a lot of opportunity to relax and enjoy his new hideaway. No, now that he's gone and dug himself a quiet retreat, his trainer wants him to leave it again and go on the offense. Penicillin forces himself to set aside his reservations and instead concentrate on climbing up the shifting pile of foam to the surface. He peers out of his hole, looking for Edward. The persian doesn't seem to be around--and after all, Penicillin saw him being recalled at the beginning of the round. The same is true of that squirtle, Fondue; Penicillin cranes his neck a bit further, giving the surface of the mosh pit a good inspection, but indeed, neither of his stated targets are in sight.

Mole-estation is having tunnel problems of her own below. Her trainer wants her to double team while staying in Gorouna's hole. Unfortunately, she just doesn't seem to be having any luck double teaming today. Though she does her best to follow her trainer's commands, scrambling up and down around the mouth of the tunnel, she can't for the life of her produce a single clone. Below, Gorouna is now convinced that a pokémon has invaded her tunnel and is redoubling her efforts at producing a rock slide, with nothing to show for them at all.

Rachel, still ensconced in its own private pocket of foam, performs another cosmic power attack, briefly illuminating its surroundings with a starburst of light and color.

Back on the surface, Sheila, still looking around for something to do, catches sight of the glint of Penicillin's coin. The meowth is barely visible, only far enough out of his hole to get a decent look around, but that's enough for Sheila. The vulpix leaps to her feet, flame gathering at the back of her throat, and sends another searing flamethrower the meowth's way. Pencillin howls as his head is engulfed in fire, letting go of the edge of the hole and sliding back into the depths in an avalanche of dislodged foam. Most of the meowth's body was underground and spared by the attack as a result, but he's still suffered a painful scorching.

The other fire-types sitting up on the surface immediately perk up as Sheila attacks, craning their necks around to see who she was going after. There's nothing left in the wake of the vulpix's flamethrower, though, and Anmi gets up to go inspect the place where the flamethrower struck. Not bothered in the slightest by the hot, melted foam that gums her paws, the vulpix stares down into the darkness of Penicillin's hole. Well, there's no easy way to seduce whoever's down there from this distance, and once again none of her other targets are presenting themselves. She settles down to wait out whatever pokémon is lurking below, while Ganondorf, bored by his lack of opportunity to attack, stays where she is and scrutinizes the arena.

Much to his surprise, what should he discover but a betentacled, glowing-eyed fiend peering at him from across the arena? Ganondorf leaps to his feet, barking furiously, and tears off across the arena at Not a Creeper, flames exploding out across his fur as he goes. The lileep flinches and tucks his tentacles closer to his head, but his substitute, with its strange intuition about attacks, doesn't move, and in his haste to lash out Ganondorf ends up blowing past Not a Creeper entirely, narrowly escaping a collision with the edge of the pit. Nevertheless, the lileep decides he's had enough--Rachel, Tiamat, and Mole-estation! aren't up here, after all--and pulls his head back down under the foam, out of sight of the pokémon on the surface.

This includes Acionyx who, after his triumphant knockout last action, is pacing restlessly and hoping for Tiamat to surface, and Eevee, who still has no idea where his targets might be. The two of them are losing patience while, below, Tiamat is considering her situation. All the water from her previous attack ended up on the floor, and she's not going to be filling the pit up anytime soon, given that its liner now has two large holes in it. On the other hand, she's seen no sign of Gorouna, and so far as she knows Grizzle is still somewhere overhead. At last, she decides adding a little more water to her surroundings can't hurt and unleashes a hydro pump straight down, ripping the bottom of the pit open wider and propelling several more spongy blocks through the aperture. Below, Mole-estation! is treated to another drenching, and a bit of water trickles down to Gorouna in the bottom of the hole. It's nowhere near enough to injure the geodude, but she's less than thrilled to see it nonetheless.

Penicillin's learned his lesson. He's not going to be trying anything heroic or stupid. He's not going to try anything at all. He's going to lie right here where it's safe and nurse his wounds and progressing illness. And that, in fact, is just what he does.

Mole-estation's thoughts are more focused on revenge. Though she stays where she is, half in and half out of Gorouna's hole, she's preparing herself for future confrontations. The diglett grimly sharpens her broad claws on the edge of hole, honing them down to more dramatic points and dreaming of sinking them into a certain water type in the near future. Gorouna, meanwhile, is nearly crying with frustration, battering at the earth with her fists as she tries to summon up a rock slide attack and, yet again, simply cannot.

Meanwhile, Rachel has decided to go on the offense at last. The staryu wriggles and shudders, awkwardly swimming its way back up through the foam to the surface, waggling its stiff body back and forth and stabbing its points into the foam to stabilize itself as it goes. At last it shivers its way out into the open, balancing neatly on two points as it stands facing the pokémon lazing around on the surface, all of whom turn to look with interest at the staryu. Unfortunately, just as Rachel is about to blast the lot of them with ice, the staryu suddenly finds itself totally unable to conjure up an icy wind. Like Gorouna below, the staryu is suddenly stymied by some unknown force, its attack lying just beyond the reach of its immediate capabilities.

As before, the pokémon on the surface have nothing to do. It would be convenient if one of them had had Rachel as a target, but alas, all are on the lookout for Nyasha, Penicillin, Mole-estation!, Gorouna, or Tiamat. These all remain inaccessible, though some more so than others. Indeed, if they had waited a little longer, they could have caught the vaporeon at least with something. It's Tiamat's turn to rise from the depths and turn an attack on Grizzle, now that she's decided she has no idea where Not a Creeper is and she knows, at least, that Grizzle should be somewhere up above. The vaporeon has an easier time of the climb than Rachel did, and in a couple of seconds she is nosing her way out of the foam, pulling her long tail free and coming to stand fully on the surface once more. Unfortunately, despite the large number of pokémon that are here, Grizzle doesn't seem to be among them--nor Not a Creeper, for that matter.

At that point the lileep is actually considering what to do. He doesn't especially want to go sticking his head up there again, considering that the last time he did Ganondorf seemed to want to set it alight. None of his targets were up there the last time, and how likely is it that that's changed in one action? Better to stay down here where it's safe and let the surface pokémon soften each other up a bit.

Still, that urge feels a little too much like disloyalty for the lileep, and in the end Not a Creeper raises his head again, pushing it up out of the foam. And, much to his surprise, there is Rachel, quite within range of his giga drain at last. The lileep's tentacles glow green as long strands of grass energy extend from them and wrap around Rachel, sapping a considerable chunk of the water type's energy and transferring it back to Not a Creeper. Rachel shakes the attack off quickly enough, but the damage done is considerable nonetheless.

Terrain Notes
There is an area of scorched, melted foam around the area where Nyasha used to be. There is another, smaller such patch at the edge of Penicillin's hole. There are two holes in the liner of the pit, one significantly larger than the other, and the foam below Tiamat is soaked. There is a large pool of water under the pit, and the hole in which Gorouna and Mole-estation! reside is getting a little damp.

Final Notes
- Last round I forgot that evasion-raising attacks were banned and Rachel shouldn't have been able to use minimize. Its effects were reversed this round and Rachel's energy changed to what it would have been if it hadn't used the attack.
- As per this post, in the event that a player targeted a pokémon that had been eliminated and was not given alternatives, the target was switched to the one below the previous target in the official order. Alas, for this was Mole-estation!, and no one who had their attacks re-targeted was able to do anything as a result.
- Tiamat's hydro pumps clipped Mole-estation, and she took damage as though she'd been struck by a water gun both times.
- Penicillin took less damage than normal from Sheila's flamethrower because only part of it hit him.
- Remember that multiple-target attacks are banned. This rule caused Gorouna to spend the entire round failing to use rock slide and Rachel's failure to use icy wind on the final action.

And you also seem to have forgotten it this round, as, although it did not matter, Mole-estation! successfully used Double Team.

Good lord, the fail.

Edited so Mole-estation didn't get to use the move and finishes the round with a little more energy.

DQ warning for Griffin, Gummy, DJ P0N-3, Wargle, and Zora of Termina. Everyone but DJ-P0N-3 has twenty-four hours; DJ-P0N-3 has a week.

Well, yeah. If you don't post in the absence sheet, that's what happens (though it still wouldn't have covered you for the full two weeks in this case).

Edit: For that matter, I need your commands for your battle against MF as well.

This is also the final DQ for DJ P0N-3. As before, since this interferes with a lot of people's commands, if you want to re-order you have three days to send me revisions.

I'm trying to figure out exactly what is affected by these DQ's, but I can't seem to find Gummy or DJ on the post-round list of pokemon. Who are their pokemon?

I did post in the absence sheet, right here?
Sorry, I didn't see that. Since we're going to have to deal with re-ordering again anyway, you can still play if you get me your commands in the next three days.

Gummy's is Ganondorf, DJ's is Tiamat. Pwnemon's is Mole-estation!

And, yes, we've had another player drop out. You have until three days from now to send commands to account for the removal of Mole-estation! and the re-addition of Acionyx. Hopefully this will be the last we'll have to do this for this round.
