Squornshellous Beta vs. Skyman

That's because I originally had Frittata use Rock Slide, and then I re-read the movelist and realised she couldn't use it. I changed the reffing and did my best to tweak the damage/energy of both Pokémon, but evidently screwed up when it came to Jess' health.

And yes, I do use Kratos' scale. The 3% damage is applied at the end of each action.

A fairly simple arena for the most part. A several-acre field with grass roughly half an inch long all over, and a lake in the centre full of sparklingly clear water that cannot be muddied or obscured, no matter what happens to it. The lake is big enough to comfortably house a Gyarados. There is a mysterious substance diffused throughout the air, water and ground that deals 3% damage per action; this damage cannot be negated or reduced in any way.

Round five, begin!

Frittata smiles. Finally, a move she can actually use. She rolls forward, aiming to swing her tail towards Jess's face...

And she's not actually there. Jess herself gives a malicious giggle, curled safely in a deep hole. Frittata wobbles at its edge with a scowl; she'd like to go down there but she'd have no easy way to get back up if she tried. Instead she rolls back a little and watches the clouds. Since she can't reach Jess, there's really no point in wasting energy using moves. She apparently doesn't notice the pink dust settling on her shell. Oooh, that one's shaped like a Sheebit. That one looks like me! ...No, wait, nevermind.

Jess prowls along her little tunnel, listening to the surface. She can't hear anything. Does Aqua Tail even sound like anything? Her commands were clear - resurface adter Frittata attacks - but she can't tell what's going on, and something about the air down here is making her feel a little sick. After a few more tense minutes, she leaps into the roof of her tunnel and claws her way up, bursting through the surface in a spray of dirt. Frittata, caught up in the attack, goes flying. When she lands, she winces as something goes crack underneath her. That hurt.

Still, she's got something to do, and that something is a deluxe serving of Aqua Tail to the face. She rolls forward, rapidly picking up speed, and spins around at the last moment. Water flows up from the nearby pool, absolutely drenching Jess and knocking her back. To add insult to injury, she also recieves a slap across the muzzle from Frittata's tail.

Bedraggled and damp she may be, but now Jess is out for vengeance. She barks out a spell and the Hex viciously attacks Frittata, focusing on the scorchmark on her head. The Dragomelet squeals in pain and rolls away to avoid further attacks.

Round five over!

End of Round Notes
  • Frittata's first Aqua Tail missed due to Dig, she did not use Aqua Tail on the second action, but her third Aqua Tail rolled for a crit. Lucky girl.
  • Jess ended up digging upwards after Frittata decided to cloud-watch, but before her third action, resulting in a big wet Aqua Tail to the head.
  • Apologies for the delay.

Round six, begin!

Hearing her trainer's commands, Jess immediately begins ripping up the dirt in front of her, carving into the soil with ease. Of course, it sticks to her fur in horrible clumps, but orders are orders. Frittata, on the other hand, rocks back and forth gently and waits for her chance to shine. This chance comes several seconds later, when a muddy Vulpix bursts from the ground directly beneath her. While both battlers are tossed into the air, it's Frittata who recovers first - she spins, slams her tail into Jess' muzzle, and a fresh wave of water sweeps over both of them.

At that moment, Jess' thoughts are something like this: AUDGUJHDJAKMFOPKEMFNH. She's even more thoroughly soaked than before, and she is not happy. Her response to all this was to burrow underground once more, leaving behind a tired looking Dragomelet.

Frittata doesn't mind, though. She simply focuses, building up energy beneath her shell. This is going to hurt.

When Jess bursts through the floor again, Frittata lets out an Explosion that would put a Voltorb to shame.

The smoke eventually clears, revealing an unconscious Dragomelet and a large crater. Jess lies several feet away, also unconscious.

Round six over!

Pre-Round

Since an “unspecified something” is to Lord of the Fireflies what candy is to a two-year old hyperactive child, Squornshellous Beta and Skyman didn’t have to wait for long before the emergency referee replaced Summergale, who had disappeared since a while (read: since the explosion).

Anyways, as soon as he had arrived, a gas mask strapped to his face and everything, he allowed the trainers to send in their next battler. Skyman, getting tired of going first, grumbled something unintelligible (but probably filled with kindness [sarcasm here]) to the referee and threw in the middle of the crater his third Poké Ball. In a burst of light, Roxas the Pichu appeared and looked at his surroundings in hope to find chocolate rather than a foe to battle - Unluckily for him, Squornshellous Beta immediately responded by sending out Psaltoda Plaga the Nincada, and the insect quickly wiped the dust away with a barely visible flap from his atrophied wings, and locked its stare into Roxas’.

The referee waved his flag to signal the round officially open.

Round VII Begin

As soon as commands were given, Roxas led down and started scratching the hard soil with his paws. The rodent lashed the earth with all his might, with his hands and his feet, however nothing but a thin layer of dust was dug away. The stone-hard ground was not easily tore up, and his tiny, stubby yellow paws just weren’t enough. With nothing else left to do, he looked up again in search of his foe, but Psal had disappeared. Were he once stood was a pretty large hole pierced in the stiff soil - probably due to the Nincada’s more adept claws – but no sign of its creator. Roxas looked around worriedly. The obvious option was too enraging to accept, but the Pichu had to look down when he felt a hardly perceptible rumble under his feet. He attempted an escape, but it was already too late; the ground erupted with a loud “crack” under him, and his was thrown upwards. His yellow body flew up and crashed down like a puppet, and when he found in himself enough strength to get up, Psal had already returned under the surface.

As he started scanning the battlefield again, a phenomenal rage filled in his gaze; uncontrollable, nasty thoughts crept in his head and blurred his eyesight. The Pichu’s blood was boiling with anger; he clenched his fists and crouched like some wild animal. A thin, dark halo surrounded him as he began to imagine foul, indescribable ways to smash his opponent to pieces. A bunch of feet under, Psal was planning his comeback. Completely blind in the dim tunnels, his antennas started to twitch, analyzing the environment. He couldn’t be mistaken – Roxas was indeed directly above him, motionless. The Nincada was quite suspicious; a still opponent was rarely good news…

Nevertheless, orders were orders. And since his trainer had ordered him to smack the Pichu until the end of round, that’s what he was going to do. He placed his fine claws on the roof of his tunnel and, with his strong hind legs, propelled himself upwards. He reached his target in a matter of seconds, and without much ceremony crashed in the mouse from below and hid back underground immediately after Roxas hit the ground with a thud.

His head was still booming with murderous thoughts when the Pichu got up again, shaking and looking around furiously. The black aura was expanding, as if his shadow swallowed it. But as much as he tired, he couldn’t find Psal anywhere. And when it finally saw it, it was obviously too late. The Nincada collided with him like a rocket, launched by the power of his legs and in company of chunks of rock of various size and weight.

As Psal gave a curious look at his battered foe, the latter rose up his gave him the most terrifying glare a Pichu has ever given. It’s a shame that the Nincada had already busied himself picking at a rotten leaf to pay much attention to it.

Round VIII Begin

Roxas stared at the numerous holes in the ground with a mixture of awe and red-eyed rage. The vast subterranean labyrinth could prove very dangerous for him – the evasive techniques of his opponent were working too well for his opponent, unable as he was to even touch him. The Pichu was well aware that his grounded state could cost him the match, and with that train of thoughts came a moment of intense concentration, as he began to manipulate the electromagnetic fields flowing around him to lift his body off the ground. As Roxas floated up slowly, Psal watched him curiously. He too was conscious his digging shenanigans were not going anywhere, but he also knew they weren’t necessary to take electric mice down. He crouched down and pointed his antennas to the sky, and started flapping his short wings quickly. The low whirr began to intensify and the appendages went faster and faster, quickly growing into an eardrum-piercing screech that reverberated through the field, and making the Pichu squeak in pain, paws desperately trying to subtract his hypertrophied ears to the horrible sound. Of course, the attempt was vain.

Roxas, his body bruised and ears bleeding at an alarming rate began to wonder if it could be possible this battle slipped out of his grasp. His stamina was dropping quickly, and that weird gas dispersed in the air and making him cough quite violently was not helping him at all, burning his throat and lungs. After a brief instant of thinking, he accepted that he would need some backup. Head risen to the clouds, he asked in an ancient language the deity Jirachi to heal his wounds and invigorate his muscles of the divine strength, and sent his wish to the stars. Then, in one shot, he felt like an iron anvil had dropped on his back, and the restless Pichu suddenly felt a lot more tired than the second before. Psal, totally oblivious to the Pichu’s healing matters, started once more to produce the tympanum-piercing buzz, and once more Roxas screamed in pain, growing nervous his Wish wouldn’t realize before he was taken down by another mortifying sound wave.

But if he had to be taken down, it would be with a nasty struggle. He surely wouldn’t fall like a wimp, without delivering a fight. As Psal kept on staring at him, his eyes widened in unawareness of the Pichu’s inner combat, he felt something wrapping around his hind legs. He couldn’t tell exactly what it was, and before he could turn around to check, the vines had tightened their grasp and pulled him back, inevitably making him lose his balance. He tripped and bit the dust violently as the vines erratically seeped back in the soil, leaving him lightly bruised and heavily disoriented. Still, this small incident was far from a defeat, and he happily resumed his annoying buzz. Roxas lost the wide grin he had found, and the shriek was again in his head and biting his brain like a swarm of red Durants.

And suddenly, as he felt consciousness slowly slipping away, he heard a clear chime. Jirachi had heard him. The Wish Pokémon had sent from the stars a pulse of life, and it bathed the Pichu in the form of a white aura, wiping away his wounds and filling his body with his strength again.
