I just fail to see the need to attack without a given reason something harmless that you simply don't happen to like just because someone else happens to like it and/or think it interesting.
Racism isn't quite the same; it results in harm. LOLcats doesn't seem likely to result in anyone getting beaten up and/or killed.

Since you're now justifying it, I'm satisfied. Please, continue your discussion.

What he said. Lolcats aren't THAT big of a matter really. You can't compare it to racism; that's much worse than some silly little cat pictures.

i find it hilarious that vee and xikaze have had to explain their reasoning whilst the other side hasn't

:)

I thought it was pretty hilarious, but that's just me. I can understand why some people don't like it. I never use chatspeek, but I find dechipering it amusing on occasions. Oh, and this might need to be moved to the debating hall.

If they did it to something other than the Holy Bible, then it might be OK. But, no. They pushed it way to far. I give it a -1000000000000/0

Jesus Christ, seriously? Throwing around comparisons to racism over a silly little meme?

I agree completely with Time Psyduck. So much, in fact, that I'm going to quote him here.

I never said I liked LOLcats (I am neutral, although some of them are funny - maybe those are the first ones that actually were funny, as I haven't seen that many), I just fail to see the need to attack without a given reason something harmless that you simply don't happen to like just because someone else happens to like it and/or think it interesting.

Seriously, people, the guy just posted it here because he thought it was funny and that other people would like it. He wasn't trying to start a flame war, so there's need to get so freakin' high and mighty about it. Humor is subjective, remember that. And no, I'm not saying that I liked it, or LOLcats in general (like TP, some are funny, some are just fail), but really, this is just plain disrespectful. It's a harmless little joke that isn't hurting or even affecting you, and you guys have gone beyond just stating your opinions to being outright dicks. Dislike it if you want, but don't just leap on a person and call them a dumbfuck just because they like something you don't.

Oh, hey, have you met Eevee? Maybe you should get to know him.

He knows what he's talking about, for the record. Ooh, I know it's scary talking to somebody who is *GASP* right, but, hey, the pain goes away eventually, right?

Holy shit...Nobody's saying he's right or wrong. What they're saying is that he didn't have to come in here and attack someone who did NOTHING to provoke a flame war. Had this been in the Debate Hall, or the topic was like "LOLcats Bible: Funny? Yes or No?" then yeah, argue away. But this is the friggin' INSANITY board, for sharing random things they find funny. It's not serious business, people. A simple "I didn't like it" would have sufficed.

*reads through the thread*... I feel more of an arse than usual -^^-

Admittedly even if you find the thing even remotely funny to begin with, once the novelty wears off you realise that essentially what you have is a holy text that has been made slightly hard to read ^^"

As this thread seems to have taken a turn towards posting your opinion of LOLcats in general; I typically don't find them overly funny either, in respect to the ones which are just a picture of a cat that somebody's whacked any old cheesy caption onto, though the odd, decent pic can be quite funny.

(Frankly, I was expecting there to be slightly more people I may have inadvertently offended religiously. XD)

I agree SO MUCH. Lolcats doesn't hurt ANYONE, and even if you think they're stupid, don't ruin the fun for those who likes them. You could just say "I don't like lolcats because I think putting broken text over images is kind of stupid" and we wouldn't have any of this.

This is the opposite of what we've done. We are not "getting so freakin' high and mighty about it." We said we don't like it, Time Psyduck asked why, and vee elaborated. Not high and mighty, actually, more low and under others because we answered their questions. :)
The conversation took a bad turn when the other side started to say "GOD DEAL WITH IT," which made our side look intolerant. No, we are not intolerant; we justify our side.

We are not debating whether this is funny; we are voicing our opinions and logic behind it whilst the other side is telling us to deal with it because they like it and refuse to deal with our opinion of it.

A simple "I didn't like it" would have sufficed.
No, it wouldn't have. Let me elaborate.
Originally, this post basically summed up the opinion of our side:
WUE got "offended" or some variation thereof, and posted:
did i ask for anyone's smart-ass opinions

seriously guys, say what's so "abomination" and "gross" about them
E asked for reasoning, so vee went on to elaborate:

so you don't like my complaining?

get over it lololol

do not worry they are free of charge

they took a perfectly good and adorable meme, caturday, and ruined it. now it is fucking impossible to find a cute picture of a cat with or without a witty caption any more, because some idiot will be sure to show up and plaster a caption -- ANY caption -- on it in broken English, merely to perpetuate the meme. they don't understand why the language was broken in the first place or that it's not meant to be done constantly. there is no effort, there is no thought, there is no humor.

it's the same thing with motivational posters and failblog. you're supposed to either enhance or create humor with a clever caption, not just slap on the first thing that comes to mind because it's the cool thing to do.

it's cargo cult creativity. "someone else put text on this cat and it was funny, so if I do it too I'll be funny!" it's offensive that anyone thinks merely rendering text as gibberish will make it funny, and it's infuriating that the Web is swamped with this awful garbage and celebrated by masses of people with no taste. it's like the whole Web turned into thirteen-year-olds obsessed with monkey cheese, going around proclaiming their Random Whatever of Doom, not because it's actually funny or clever, but because everyone else is doing it and it's common knowledge that this should be funny and clever.

at least stupid youtube memes stay on youtube for the most part.

there is that good enough
That is our logic as to why we do not like it. WUE asked for reasoning, and we gave it to them. I have no idea why people like you continue to complain that we are being total dicks about it. Now, why do you keep going off because we answered a question that was asked? Why do you turn this into something it isn't by saying that we have turned it into something that isn't? Keep in mind that we didn't post "gross" and then come on to flame; we were asked to elaborate as to why we didn't like it and did so.

When will people realize that racism is not an opinion in the same way as liking lolcats? You don't "find" other races to be inferior to yours in the same way as you "find" something to be funny or whatever. You can't tell a person that they're "wrong" for being entertained by something, because it's an automatic internal reaction in their heads. If it happens, it happens, no matter how many logical reasons you can think of for how it "should" not happen. The process of being entertained never consults the rational mind at all. There is no sense in attempting any sort of debate about whether or not something is entertaining, like you could debate about whether it's "right" or "true" or "just".

That said, I pretty much agree with Eevee, and I personally fail to see the humour in the LOLcat Bible; it's just the Bible recast with cats, simplified and with a bunch of spelling and grammar errors thrown in. I'm not sure precisely what about it is throwing off the funny switch in people's brains, but apparently it's something. :/

We respect your opinion of it too, that's not it, it's just that we think you're making us look bad by saying "lolcats are fucking horrible" and stuff. EVEN when you reason it, you(or some of you) are making us look like retarded little kids that's all like "LOLKATZ LOLOLOLOLOLOL TEXT ON A PICTURE IS ALWAYS FUNNY"

We get your opinion, and (kind of) understand why you think that way too, but why can't you just go "I don't like it because..."

The problem is that you're explaining in a sort of "offensive" way. Eh, I'm not good at explaining.

EDIT: Yeah, what Butterfree said. There's no "right" or "wrong" humor, it's just that some people find this funny and others find that funny. It's like how some people like sweet candy, and others prefer salty snacks(bad example but you get my point). You can't really explain why you prefer this thing better than that thing and doesn't like that other thing at all.

Yep. What Butterfree said.

For the record, I didn't even find it all that funny myself. It was kind of amusing for the first few pages, but the charm wore off pretty fast. But hey, funny is subjective, so obviously it works for someone.

sorry but I'm going to have to strongly disagree with this, as extreme a comparison as it is

it's all just what criteria you use to judge

some people use skin color to judge people and don't see a problem with that
some people use randomness to judge humor and don't see a problem with that

neither of these groups are putting any active thought into what they judge by; it just is what it is. some people automatically take "black" to mean worthless. some people automatically take "random" to mean hilarious.

yes, judging people's worth by race is far more undesirable as it directly affects others' well-being etc, but the point was that they are both horrendously bad criteria to use, and that really irks people who have found better criteria.

how others judge things does affect us in a similar way, you know. whatever gets popular gets more attention funneled into it, which means more crap churned out and less focus on actual quality. look at the movie industry.

and dudes sorry for hijacking your thread; I know you would have had a riveting discussion without us
