The Battle for Asber

One pokémon apiece, and yours was knocked out. You don't have your xatu with you right now.

I take it you are ignoring all ASB Personas and making us humans right npw?

Also, will Spiritomb carrying people have any effect on its attacks?

So I totally had my dates wrong when I posted the last round; you should be seeing a DQ in about six hours, but as I haven't seen any spectacular movement towards getting commands finalized on the part of either team, I'll give you an extra day and make them due midnight on actual Christmas eve. That'd be a 30 hour DQ warning for everybody, then.

Round Four, Act One

Now that the new arrivals have taken up places beside their comrades, all on the field are tense, awaiting the event that will break the temporary lull. Monopole in particular is poised to move, ready to defend its teammate should Darkrai show any sign of unleashing its nightmares on the defenders.

In the end, though, it is Mewtwo who leads the round off. The psychic's eyes settle on Monopole and read the metagross' intentions in the restless bobbing of its psychic flight. Mewtwo's grin broadens, showing pointed fangs. Going somewhere, big guy? With a snap of its fingers, the clone locks Monopole in place, pinioning the metagross with its psychic powers. I don't think so!

Monopole lets out a grating moan as Darkrai cackles and spreads its hands, blackness welling from between its claws as it draws a curtain of darkness across the sky. The metagross has little time to despair its failure to defend another teammate; blackness wells up to claim it, dragging its consciousness down into the realm of dreams. Unfortunately, Monopole is not alone in the dark. The dark of the void is broken by two brilliant blue eyes, shining with malice as they survey Monopole. Darkrai's voice sounds from every direction as Monopole, struggling to escape the legend's gaze, realizes that it still can't move, tendrils of blackness stretched taut around its metal limbs. Welcome to my domain, little pokémon. Not in such a great hurry to leave, now, are you...?

Back on the battlefield, Aries, who has only just managed to beat the last of the flames out of his fluff, is faced with a terrifying situation. As the dark void plunged the sky into blackness, the cottonee was the only one able to resist the shadows' pull. He could only watch as one, then another of his comrades collapsed in fitful sleep. Monopole is limp in Mewtwo's psychic grasp, and Ventus is perched on one of its clawed arms, the swellow only just having managed to make a safe landing before sleep claimed her. Mr. Wonderful's keystone glows a bright purple, but only a few wisps of ectoplasm float in the air around it, the spiritomb having retreated deep into his prison to sleep. It's a wonder Ptah can stay aloft at all, gliding along on autopilot, with Chief Zackrai in serious danger of sliding off, slumped against the gliscor's back and with only one limp arm over his pokémon's shoulder keeping him in place. Even Aries' own trainer has succumbed, now curled up on Monopole's back and twitching in her sleep.

So that's it, then. It's him alone against all three of the legends. Aries takes a deep breath and tries to summon all the seriousness his new ability has granted him, then conjures up a safeguard, green light surrounding both himself and his comrades just a little bit too late. Across the battlefield, Giratina calls up a safeguard of its own, and the two teams glow green alike. Aries stares down his opponents and tries to think positive, ready to make a last-ditch effort to rescue his teammates from the malice of the legends.

Oh my, it's about time. I must say, you all look mighty delicious. I hope you enjoy your sleep, mortals; I know I certainly will.

The games have just begun!

Hehehe. Perhaps you are not in my domain, but you've feared this for so long. And rightfully so! It would be unjust to let the opportunity pass us by. Now, more than ever, you are at our mercy.

What shall we do now? So many options have been opened to us.

How does it feel, little cottonee, to stand against us alone? You, of all our opponents, not even designed by nature to be a soldier. What will you do now? You could have saved your allies, and I'm sure the thought crossed your mind. You chose otherwise, I see. Are you good for anything else?

Certainly, you hold no interest for us, not any longer. No. It is now time to consider another of you insects - one who has been here with us for far too long.

Enjoy the world of nightmares, metagross. The reality that awaits your awakening will be far less merciful.

Round Four, Act Two

Mewtwo conjures a ball of fire, bouncing it idly on its palm as it surveys the scene below--its opponents slumbering soundly, save for one measly little cottonee. The legend chuckles to itself. Honestly, it's almost too easy. And now, to destroy the one who had the audacity to think it could take the power of legends for itself...

Mewtwo hurls the fireball at Monopole, watching it unfurl in midair to take on a broad five-pointed shape. The metagross is doubly trapped, slumbering and held fast by telekinesis, and certainly has no hope of avoiding the searing attack. The fire blast strikes it dead on, pushing it back in the air with the force of the resulting explosion. Monopole tilts but does not awaken, the three trainers sleeping on its back teetering on the edge of the void for a moment.

Ventus, perched on one of Monopole's limbs, holds tight despite the metagross' unexpected pitching, but it's clear her sleep is less peaceful than most. The swellow murmurs and shivers in her slumber, which is laced with unending hordes of empty-eyed nightmare-creatures, skeletons half-dissolved into crackling bands of digital snow. Outside Ventus' awareness, Darkrai raises an arm and brings it slashing down, releasing a slicing pulse of dark energy that rockets down and slams into Monopole, knocking the metagross into another tilt. In Ventus' dream, the landscape of oil-slicked ocean and half-submerged wreckage yaws and twists, and her panicked flight loops erratically as she tries to figure out what's going on. The skies are as dangerous as the land below, and the sudden jolt is almost enough to send Ventus into the jaws of an aerodactyl skeleton gliding right at her, a keening noise rising from its empty mouth as the wind rushes through its knife-sharp teeth. They snap shut on one of Ventus' tailfeathers as she twists to avoid the rider on its back, dressed in black and hooded. As she does so, she catches a glimpse of her wingtip, which is falling away to vanes as white as bone. Pulling up, Ventus looks down at herself, only to find the strange affliction that did in the abominations is working away at her as well. The flesh on her talons is rotting into a haze of ones and zeros, exposing slick tendons and the cold white of bone beneath. Her feathers are falling away, and the infection is working deeper, and the abominations are closing in around her, and she's growing tired, oh so tired, as she struggles to stay aloft as her body deteriorates...

...and just what the hell is all this bullshit, anyway? Ventus makes a course correction and drives straight into the ribcage of a skeletal archeops, knocking bones spinning, and passes straight through a cloud of fizzing static. The collision causes no pain, and the weird infection spewing from the creature has no effect on her at all. Ventus angles up through the smoke-wreathed sky, blasting another abomination out of her way with a hyper beam. She's almost as angry with herself as she is with whoever it was that thought this claptrap up. Honestly, zombies, weird, sinister riders, post-apocalyptic wasteland? What a snore. Whoever cooked this one up was just plain trying too hard with the scary, and as soon as she finds her way out, she's going to teach them a lesson in real fear.

The swellow jerks awake just in time to see Giratina making another trans-dimensional jump, its crest glowing blue as it slices open empty air and slithers through into the Reverse World. The swellow glances around, taking in the sight of her teammates sleeping, the safeguard glowing pointlessly around them, and Aries drifting alone, gathering solar energy for his attack.

With an angry screech, Ventus rises from her perch aboard Monopole, and not a moment too soon; a portal to another world opens below the metagross, and Giratina hurtles through, striking Monopole with a solid clang as it soars up past the metagross. This last insult is, at last, enough to wake Monopole, and it manages to stabilize its flight soon enough to prevent the humans still dreaming on its back from plummeting into empty space.

Ventus yells a challenge at Giratina and takes off after the dragon, but the legend ignores the tiny bird flitting in its wake, its attention drawn by Aries as the cottonee blasts Darkrai in the face with a brilliant beam of pure light. The legend cowers back, hissing and raising its claws before its face to ward off the hated light.

If there's one thing Ventus can't stand, it's being ignored by an opponent. The swellow spreads her wings wide, summoning as much energy as she can muster. A bright orange curtain of light outlines the swellow's body and expands steadily as she accelerates upwards, letting out a piercing cry that at last causes Giratina to look down at her. The dragon has no time to dodge before Ventus, now glowing white at the center of a diffuse, vaguely bird-shaped cloud of flying energy, slams into its face. Giratina reels back with a roar, body twisting and lashing in confusion as it tries to realign itself, while Ventus keeps rocketing upwards, soon vanishing against the brightness of the meteor-studded sky.

Meanwhile, Monopole is gathering what strength it can for an attack of its own. The legends' attention has left it heavily damaged, but it isn't quite out of the picture yet. It extends two claws upwards, releasing another chilly gust of wind at its opponents. Giratina and Mewtwo are little bothered by the weak attack, albeit a bit slowed by the formation of frost on their limbs, but Darkrai, still reeling from the searing solarbeam, feels the burn of the cold more acutely than the others. The dark legend growls and hunches down against the chill, consoling itself with the knowledge that the metagross is soon to find itself forcibly removed from battle.

Oh? It looks like we're joined by an uninvited guest. Well, that's alright, too. Perhaps we shall play with you next. It will be a short game, but we will indulge you if you're so eager to play.

Round Four, Act Three

Mewtwo conjures another fire blast and sends it roaring down at Monopole. It watches eagerly as the attack connects, then makes a small noise of irritation when, after the fire burns itself out, the metagross is still weakly moving, trying to stabilize itself within the constraints imposed by telekinesis. Darkrai sees its chance for revenge, gathering blackness in one fist, then hurling a pulse of negative energy at its determined opponent. This, at last, is more than the metagross can handle; Monopole goes still in the grip of Mewtwo's telekinesis, knocked out at last, and Darkrai loudly celebrates another kill for its record, much to Mewtwo's irritation.

Giratina has gotten its flight under control and now drifts towards Mewtwo, peering intently at its teammate as though seeing it for the first time. Its inspection is rudely interrupted as Ventus shoots down from on high, slamming squarely into the middle of the legends' back and actually dragging it down through the air for several yards before the last of the sky attack's energy dissipates.

Giratina twists around to fix a glare on Ventus, which the swellow, tired but exhilarated and still raring to fight, returns with a challenging cry. The dragon grumbles to itself, but it doesn't have time to deal with the annoying gnat now; it needs to get on with aping its partner to the best of its abilities. It turns away from Ventus and fixes its attention on Mewtwo once more, trying to get into the clone's head and understand what makes it tick.

At the moment, that seems to be a vindictive sort of playfulness. Giratina loops a slow circle around Mewtwo, forming a weak psychic link with its teammate and peering into its thoughts. Mewtwo's newly-acquired impish tendencies settle into Giratina's brain, and the colossal legendary is surprised to find itself thinking of something other than which of its opponents might make the best hors d'oeurves. In fact, it's considering playing with its food a bit before chowing down--the defenders haven't gotten the chance to see the half of its dirty tricks, after all, and it would be such a shame to deprive them of the opportunity.

Aries watches Monopole's elimination with undisguised distress. The metagross seemed too solid and dependable to be knocked out, but clearly none are safe from the legends' wrath. So far the cottonee has been fortunate, however; his opponents continue not to take him seriously. How long that will last with him roasting Darkrai with solarbeams, well, that's impossible to say, but he's no coward. Whatever the danger to himself, he's got to do his part to defeat the legends.

The cottonee's fluff swells with light as he draws on the abundant energy of the sun, his eyes shining like golden lamps as the solarbeam takes shape in the air before him. Once again the scorching beam roars across the arena and catches Darkrai in its fury. The dark legend twists and hisses, undeniably stung by the powerful grass attack. Nevertheless, the legend is far from fainting, and Aries worries he's done little more than provoke it.

And the rest of Team Asber, well, they slumber on, tormented by confused, winding nightmares full of fluorescent lights and whirring machinery, undead skeletons roaming in packs, and endless forest paths at twilight, unknown horrors watching from the trees. Grass King is the first of the humans to awaken, drenched in sweat and with a pounding head. His own discomfort is entirely forgotten as he realizes his pokémon's defeat. When no amount of yelling and rapping on the metagross' head gets a response, he's forced to admit that Monopole is indeed unconscious, not merely asleep, and Grass King sets about trying to rouse the other humans on board, to warn them of their imminent exit from the battlefield.

Meanwhile, a replacement for Monopole has at last arrived. Lurline the sableye clearly isn't too comfortable with flying; her progress through the air is halting and wobbly, but progress she does, gradually rising to a level with Monopole and watching Grass King's efforts with glittering, impassive gemstone eyes. Skylark, carried aloft by the sableye's levitation efforts, looks jealously across at people who at least have a solid steel pokémon beneath their feet rather than empty air. There's no room on Monopole anymore, though, and the trainers there are going to need to bail anyway. He'll have to trust to Lurline to keep him aloft--and out of the way of the legends' attacks, for that matter.

Just checking if you are taking Ventus' Life Orb into account? Your calculator says that two Sky Attacks should do 38%, but Giratina only took 37% damage from the two Sky Attacks and Icy Wind.

With the fact that evolutionary level is being used here in place of EXP? I'd like more damage too, but.
