Metallica Fanboy vs. Mawile

The Omskivar

chah, dude
Bringing it back up for Mawile to accept.

3 vs 3, single
Style: Set
DQ: 7 days
Damage Cap: 40%
Banned Moves: Only Metronome can be used.
Arena: Ancient Rome

The Roman empire was one of the greatest ever built. Currently, history says its downfall came about with the invasion of the Huns (well, at least one half of it). Soon, it's going to start saying a bunch of stupid time travelers did it.

The battle begins in the Amphitheatrum Flavium, aka Colosseum. It was (or, in this context, is) capable of holding hundreds of thousands of spectators, all of whom are eager to watch a spectacle that is likely to be much more bloodless than the usual, but still, mind-blowing. After all, even in the present, we'd all be lining up for it if two future imbeciles were staging a potentially city-destroying battle with remarkable, odd beasts. If the Colosseum hasn't been destroyed by the time a Pokémon faints, before the next sendout, it will be filled with water for a mock naval battle. Non-water-dwelling Pokémon will be able to take refuge aboard the ships.

But of course, we're all wishing it will be destroyed. And if that it is after it's filled up, Roman men will never wish for rain again. Unless we set fire to their homes beforehand.
Other: Pokémon of any species will be able to use Metronome during this battle.

Get'em, Sub-Zeroes.

Right, you know the drill. First, use Magma Storm to destroy the colosseum. Then, proceed to slaughter all viewers with Sheer Cold. Finally, make sure your opponent gets their share too with a little bit of Judgment.

Magma Storm ~ Sheer Cold ~ Judgment

Yeah, right.

Metallica Fanboy and Mawile tapped their feet in annoyance as they waited for the referee to secure three Baltoy to assist them in travelling through time. In the end, they had to settle for two Baltoys and a Spoink, though no one knew what use the Spoink was. They all put their hands on their designated Psychic-type, a la Dragon Tales, The Omskivar chanted something in another tongue, and they were whisked into the past.

Contrary to popular belief, time travelling isn't something where you see the past flash before your eyes. It's a visible tunnel, but at the speed you're going, which is negative, it's completely white and the only thing outside of it is imaginary space. If you took Calculus you'd understand. Well, you wouldn't, but you'd understand that math is fucking crazy sometimes and you'd have an easier time accepting that this sort of thing is entirely possible.

Anyway, they arrived at the Colosseum, where they met up with the Omskivar, who had sent himself back a bit further in order to register and take care of all the papyruswork. They were lead into the center of the circular arena, where they took a few moments to be impressed at the architecture, then sent out their Pokemon. Metallica Fanboy considered Mawile's choice, the Riolu, Equius, before sending out his Skorupi, Sub-Zeroes.

First Round

Magma Storm? Sub-Zeroes had only heard of it once before, and for the life of her she couldn't remember the context. Clearly it was a Fire attack, but...Sheer Cold wasn't a move she knew how to do either, and she knew full well Judgment had to be some sort of joke from her Trainer; irked that she would be forced to resort to this, she braced herself for the recoil from her Struggle and began to charge forward--but she never started skittering, because some impenetrable force was holding her in place. She tried a couple tactics--Digging under it, Faint Attacking around it--but found herself unable to move at all. She turned to look at her trainer, waving her claw frantically to signal to him, when all of the sudden the claw burst into light, and a long green vine shot out of it, striking Equius in the face and knocking him off of his feet.

As Sub-Zeroes stared at her claws in disbelief and surprise, Equius dusted himself off and stood up. He recognized what had just happened as Metronome, and he also knew that it was usually reserved for Pokemon with actual fingers to wag. Therefore, he reasoned, if a Skorupi could use it, he should be able to, no? He wagged his finger back and forth, then flinched as his head was involuntarily jerked forward and his mouth forced to open, emitting a shrill almost-song as loud as possible. Sub-Zeroes ground her mandibles in agony, wagging her claws in the hopes that something would make it stop; a low rumbling sound began in her own diaphragm, and though it was slightly distorted by her chittering mouthparts, her growling had its effect; Equius shied away almost instinctively at the hostility, then wagged his own finger.

Without warning to himself or Sub-Zeroes, Equius charged at her at full force, tackling her and carrying her up the side of the edge of the arena and up the stairs in the stands, slamming her hard into a column, which snapped and fell. The Skorupi screeched in pain, shaking her claw with the intent to both hit Equius with it and make him let go of her and to summon another attack; a small explosion of electricity blasted Equius off of her, and she used her tail to flip herself back onto her feet and scampered back to where the Riolu was shaking his head to clear it. Once more he stood up and wagged his finger.

Equius's neck cracked as his hand moved of its own accord, jerking him to the side, then slamming itself into the ground with force. He was pulled off of his feet and dragged by his knees as the rogue appendage led him in a circle, carving an anormous piece of rock out of the ground. Knowing where this was going, Equius smirked, then maneuvered his feet to a standing position, kicking the ground to make the rock fly up. It sort of hovered there expectantly, so he delivered a roundhouse kick, and it shot off like a cannon, barreling towards Sub-Zeroes at absolute maximum velocity. There was an audible crunch as the rock connected with Sub-Zeroes, and kept rolling, punching a hole in the wall and releasing two lions, who were too busy gnawing on a Christian to notice just yet. Sub-Zeroes strained herself to exit the Skorupi-sized hole in the ground, wincing at the pain in all of her segments, as the referee waved the flag and signalled the end of the round, keeping a wary eye on those lions.

-There is a hole blown through one of the walls.
-An enormous crater is in front of Equius.
-Two lions are eating a poor guy, adn they will be finished by the end of next round. Then they will derp around for a bit.

Battle Notes
-Rock Wrecker was a critical hit.
-No paralysis from Thunderbolt.
-No confusion from Rock Climb.
-Rock Wrecker cost extra energy because the A&A Guide suggested so.
-I tweaked the damage/energy of Vine Whip because it didn't seem fair to cost 5% energy for 3% damage.

Next round
I don't think it matters at all but both battlers should at least post to let me know they're alive. Then I ref.

One question: for future reference, can non-Attack commands such as "do nothing" or "climb the wall" still be used in a Metronome battle?

Last edited:
Indeed, non-attack moves are usable in Metronome Battles (Negrek once had a Togepi or something like that attempt to clear up its head in order to stave off confusion). They're usually useless, however, given the sheer unpredictability.

Also, holy shit, is that Equius or is that Vriska? That was pretty much all the luck.

Round 2

Both Pokemon waved their fingers, finally understanding what was happening. Sub-Zeroes began chanting in a low undertone. Nobody could quite hear what she was saying, but her eyes glowed red as she swayed back and foth, clicking her incantation through her mouthparts. She moved a bit slower after that, but her claws looked more intimidating, and her exoskeleton less penetrable. Equius shuddered, then focused and wagged his own finger vicariously. The unseen force took over again, this time compressing his body uncomfortably and squeezing him into the shape of a spring. Equius was pretty sure he heard his bones break as he was forced into a very tight coil, but as he suddenly snapped back to his normal shape, he felt fine. Better than fine in fact; he felt stronger, more resilient, and more attentive as well.

Sub-Zeroes waved her claw again, and felt a strange power welling up deep inside her. It was both beautiful and terrible, and she felt that if she did not let it out, it would threaten to end the world. She meekly and anxiously opened her mouth, and a fiery blast of air seemed to explode from it, bringing forth a noise so deafeningly loud that it seemed to stop time completely. A wave of energy unfamiliar to anyone washed over the Coliseum; the people in the other side's stands began to age rapidly, the young becoming old while the old reverted to being young. The pillars wore down with the erosion of the ages, not only collapsing, but crumbling into mere powder before settling lightly onto the ground. Equius shuddered, scared to death by the sheer poewr of the attack, as he flew backwards, first abnormally slowly, then remarkably quickly, then agonizingly slowly, punching a hole in the opposite wall at what appeared to be half a mile per hour. Finally, when the energy cleared, Sub-Zeroes and Equius shivered with terror as the soft mewing of a lion cub could be heard from the animal pens.

Equius wagged his finger, not willing to give up the battle even then. X-Men-style, a series of spikes slid out from the Riolu's wrists, which he then threw towards Sub-Zeroes, where they littered the ground around her, glinting in the light. Smirking at his good luck, Equius began his next attack; he felt his arms being involuntarily raised to his sides, as his enemy waved her claws frantically. Suddenly, Sub-Zeroes shot forward liek a bullet, stepping painfully on a spike as she did so, punching Equius with an outstretched claw, but not disrupting his attack. Rather, two more spikes, which more closely resembled long, barbed needles, slid out of his wrists and into his hands. Using the speed and precision that all Fighting-types boasted of, he slipped the two needles sharply into the chinks between Sub-Zeroes' segmented armor, causing the Scorpion Pokemon to squeal in pain. Finally, the Omskivar waved his flags and signalled the end of the round.

Not that we're really in control of what we hit, are we?

Also, that Roar of Time was fitting, but not satisfactory. We're not stopping until we get a proper Judgment in.

Or a Psystrike.

A Psystrike would be disastrous for either side.

I should have the reffing done eventually-ish, I have a math test tomorrow I probably have to stay after school for.

Note that by "we" I mean "Sub-Zeroes and I". Our opponents can drown themselves in Growl and Tackle for all we care.

Decidedly the lion cub is considered a Normal-type with 10% health, the adult lion a Normal-type with 25% health. If you hit them they will attack you for 2%ish damage if they can reach you reasonably.

Round 3

Sub-Zeroes waved her claw, then felt a small headache come on as a mental probe poked certain parts of her brain, temporarily granting her a specific set of Psychic powers. Somehow knowing what to do, she subconsciously moved her pincers in front of her, mentally rearranging Equius' visual receptors and altering his perception of the world. Equius clutched his face in an effort to deter the attack, but it did nothing; his depth perception was wonky, and he had trouble judging the positions of the things of the battlefield. Throwing caution to the wind, he closed his eyes tightly and wagged his paw.

His eyes snapped open, glowing a menacing purple. The air around him dimmed with a dark power, and shadows of nothings crept around him, aimessly. A void of raw Dark energy pulsed from his body, emanating a hellish, slowing effect--which converged in the complete wrong direction, enveloping the lion cub and forcing its eyes shut. It whimpered and mewed a little, then fell asleep on the spot, looking kind of adorable. Equius shook his head, clearing his mind of nightmares and wishing that the mysterious power would conjure less frightening attacks.

Sub-Zeroes, after softly cooing over the baby lion, shook her claw again, which slammed immediately downwards with massive force, shaking the entire arena. As the Coliseum rumbled, a crevasse like no one had ever seen tore the ground open, spreading from the Skorupi's claw straight toward her opponent, who jumped at exactly the right moment to avoid falling into the chasm. Both Pokemon stood and looked at the canyon; it was impossible to see the bottom. They looked up and caught each others' eye, nodding at each other. They silently agreed to try not to fall in. Equius stood back, wary of the forceful power, and wagged his finger again. He jumped as his paw began to crackle with electricity, as the light it emitted grew to an enormous orb, which swelled to envelop him completely. He felt an unseen hand shove his back, and he sort of stumbled forward at an incredible speed to crash into Sub-Zeroes with a force that no Pokemon he knew was capable of. As the two Pokemon rushed backwards into the wall, a monstrous bolt of lightning struck them both on impact, sending electricity coursing through the poor Bug-type's body. Sub-Zeroes screamed, all pretenses of toughness gone. Equius felt the electricity leaving him, and he backed off, sweating but otherwise okay. Sub-Zeroes shuddered, charred and black from the attack. She gingerly tested her legs, and was relieved to find that they still worked.

She waved her claw fearfully. All of the sudden, faint clouds of color appeared only to her, surrounding everything, from the lions to the stone walls to the tail on her own rump. Almost mechanically, she memorized Equius' color, which then translated itself into a certain smell, somewhere in her subconscious. She inhaled as the colors disappeared from her vision, and noticed that she could pick out precisely where this new smell was coming from. She flicked her tail in excitement, hoping that she'd have another chance to bury her opponent completely. Meanwhile, Equius was wagging his own paw.

After a few moments, Equius lifted his paw higher, waving it in circles. Sub-Zeroes originally thought that he was having trouble generating an attack. Then she saw the wind. Like a soft whirlpool in a bathtub or public swimming pool, it gently converged on a single point, swirling slowly around Equius' outstretched paw. It then picked up speed, faster and faster until a terrible gale was spinning above the Riolu; bringing his paw down, he sent it sweeping across the field, ripping up chunkes of stone from the chasm and lifting Sub-Zeroes and the half of the crowd that hadn't randomly aged the last round into the air and flinging them far out of the Coliseum. Panting, Equius fell to his knees, as the referee brought the round to a close and sent his Duskull to find the Skorupi.

Round 4

Sub-Zeroes skittered back into place after being transported back to the Coliseum by Jaffacake. She waved her claw and was sent flying towards Equius, buffeting him with three powerful kicks to the head, chest and pelvis. Doubling over in pain, the wind knocked out of him, Equius struggled to stay standing, then shook his own paw and hoped for the best.

Suddenly, he stood straight upright, though he still felt like throwing up. His eyes shot open, glowing a faint yet brilliant blue. His mouth opened and a gust of visibly frozen air chilled the Skorupi in front of him; Sub-Zeroes jumped back, unable to endure the cold. She shivered, curled up for warmth and barely slashed her claw through the air once when
BOOM.
The entire coliseum was awash in fire and smoke as a deafening explosion rocked the earth, rippling through the very fiber of the universe as the shuddering shockwave sent Equius flying back into the wall, making a decent-sized hole. The two lions were entirely incinerated, as was the audience (save the Emperor's Box) and the remaining pillars. When the smoke finally cleared, Equius thanked his stars for damage caps, as he looked determinedly in the opposite direction of the not-PG-13-describable remains of Sub-Zeroes. Metallica Fanboy recalled his faithful Skorupi and considered his next choice.
