Diamondback and his clones coil up, preparing to relax for a bit. Even as they lay their heads down, eyes falling shut, bagon opens his mouth and lets out a terrible roar. Diamondback's head jerks back up, those of his clones following suit, and he recoils from the awful noise. Bagon can't help but snicker at Diamondback's startlement as the snake rears back and hisses in an instinctive display of ferocity.

Still chuckling, Bagon sits down himself and takes a load off, grinning up at Diamondback and seeming completely unconcerned by the seviper's anger. Diamondback gets a grip on himself and relaxes a bit, eyeing Bagon with suspicion. Once he's convinced himself that the dragon won't be making more sudden loud noises, the seviper and his clones once more let their guard down and lapse into contented chills.

It's remarkable that the pokémon are able to keep their cool in the face of the chaos all around them; the wailing sirens alone, one would think, would be enough to prevent them from getting a decent rest. Both Bagon and Diamondback are tired enough not to care much about the approaching fire, though, and even the choking smoke can't force them to more vexation than the occasional cough.

Both pokémon decide to switch back to battle mode at about the same time, but Diamondback is the quicker of the two. Although he's feeling largely neutral at the moment, the seviper is more than happy for an opportunity to smack Bagon around a bit. Drawing on the power of positive thinking, Diamondback lends extra oomph to his swing as he brings his tail whipping around, catching Bagon firmly in the chest and hurling him back into the railing. The powerful blow knocks the breath clean out of Bagon's body, and he sits gasping for a couple of seconds before getting back to his feet.

Unfortunately, things just don't seem to be going his way--he's been told to use a mud-slap, but the arid environment is hardly offering up any mud for him to work with, and the concrete floor of the balcony isn't the kind of ground he could hope to conjure some out of in the first place. At a loss for what else to do, Bagon simply stands where he is and collects his wits, awaiting new orders.

Terrain Notes
The building at which the battle's taking place has finally started burning, and evacuation efforts have been turned towards the people within. Rescue workers and pokémon are descending upon the building with the intent of getting everyone out, those that aren't hightailing it already. It won't be long before the battlers here are forced to leave (two more rounds). Until they do, they will have to contend with even denser smoke and uncomfortably high temperatures as the fire climbs its way towards their position.

Final Notes
- Diamondback was neither particularly happy nor particularly angry at the end of this round, so his return was not at full power.
- There's really nothing in the arena you could use for a mud-slap attack.
- Metallica Fanboy attacks first next round.

As it turns out, the trainers fighting it out on the balcony are perhaps not quite so foolhardy as they appear. It is impossible to ignore the fact that the building where they're holding their battle is now actually on fire. Even ignoring the fact that they'd be putting their lives in danger to stay much longer, it's growing increasingly uncomfortable to hold their battle here, what with the choking smoke and rising temperatures. When Metallica Fanboy calls across the arena to tell Brock that he's thinking now would be a great time to leave, the other trainer is quick to agree. They turn to look at the referee, who nods and waves a hand. "Battle suspended, I guess. Let's get out of here."

There's little attraction in trying to exit through the building itself--not only would it take a long time to find the fire escape and then dash down the stairs to the street, doing so means running in the direction of the flames, rather than away from them. Metallica Fanboy has come prepared, and he releases his aerodactyl without hesitation. He hoists Bagon onto the prehistoric pokémon's shoulders, then mounts up himself.

Brock, meanwhile, finds himself the odd man out in terms of aerial transport. Diamondback looks around nervously while the three trainers fall into hurried discussion, then slithers over to where his broken fang lies and delicately picks it up in his mouth. Who knows but that a Pokémon Center might be able to reattach it somehow? He certainly doesn't want to lose it.

In the meantime it has transpired that Brock will go with the referee; they're not going to hail a pokémon associated with the evacuation and then try to explain to it that they don't want to leave the city but only to stay a few steps ahead of the fire. At Brock's command, Diamondback slithers up his trainer's body and settles around his shoulders. There's room for only one seviper, though; Diamondback's clones vanish as the real snake is revealed. The seviper doesn't notice Bagon's mocking smirk, preoccupied as he is by the huge talons descending on him and his trainer.

The referee's aerodactyl seizes Brock by the shoulders, great claws hooking in under his armpits, and with several labored claps of her narrow wings hauls the trainer up and off the balcony. Metallica Fanboy guides his own aerodactyl into the sky in pursuit, and the two pokémon rise rapidly into the smoke-blurred air, their erstwhile battlefield rapidly falling away below.

From their new vantage point high above the city, the trainers are able to appreciate the full scope of the disaster below. Panicked civilians whirl like ants at the street level, fleeing burning buildings or to milling aimlessly, unsure of where to go. Here and there, much closer to the aerodactyl's level, flying pokémon whirl through clouds of smoke, some equipped with video cameras and streaming footage of the disaster, others actively aiding in the evacuation and fire-suppression efforts. The air is dry and heavy with the smell of smoke, and the fires below light the scene a flickering orange.

Brock has a particularly good vantage point from which to appreciate the destruction, his feet swinging free in the open air as he dangles below the referee's aerodactyl. Diamondback is at least as nervous as his trainer, and the snake's fear-tightened grip around Brock's neck is starting to verge on strangulatory. The other two trainers don't seem to be in any particular hurry, their aerodactyl drifting lazily on the warm updrafts rising from the flames below, but Brock's insistent protestations prod them into action.

The aerodactyl fly until they leave the burning section of the city behind and begin searching for an appropriate place to continue their match. After a bit of aimless circling, Metallica Fanboy points out a helicopter landing pad painted atop a tall corporate building. Brock is only too quick to agree that this would make a fine arena, and the aerodactyl descend, the referee's dropping Brock to the pavement before swooping in to land herself. Metallica Fanboy slides from the back of his aerodactyl and sets Bagon on the tarmac in front of him while a disgruntled Brock gets back to his feet and wrestles Diamondback, who is still a bit spooked, off his neck.

The pokémon move to take up positions opposite each other on the roof, and the referee calls for the match to start again. For the moment, they're out of harm's way, though the fire continues to advance and will reach this location soon enough.

The new arena is a helicopter landing pad on top of a large skyscraper. While much larger than the balcony, it is about as flat and featureless, save for the hut over the staircase that leads to the roof. The sounds of the fire and associated evacuation have faded into the distance but are nevertheless approaching (7 more rounds).

- The pokémon did nothing during the process of the move, so they each gained energy equivalent to a chill.

Alright, Bagon, we have to keep plowing forwards, particularly now that we have a nice break to catch the opponent while he's spooked.

Do some more Zen Headbutts. Use Aerial Ace if DiamondBack's evasion rises, your accuracy falls or something stops you from using Zen Headbutt. Chill if you find yourself stopped from landing Zen Headbutt and Aerial Ace alike (e.g. by Protect).

Diamondback is coiled in a defensive position, stinger-tipped tail raised threateningly, but Bagon is undeterred. He rushes forward with his head lowered, focusing his mind and forcing psychic energy into his helmet. There are no seviper clones to confuse him now, and he has no trouble striking Diamondback with another powerful zen headbutt. The snake is sent sprawling, hissing and banging his tail angrily against the tarmac. He twists and writhes on the ground, scraping his body over the surface of the roof to tease off the layer of old scales that covers him. After a quick struggle, Diamondback is glittering with new scales while his dull, brownish dead skin lies by his side like a discarded tube sock. With an infusion of energy, however, the snakeskin begins to move, rising eerily by Diamondback's side like a ghost. Silver lights serve it for eyes, and it waves the end of its tail, which sports only a ragged hole where Diamondback's stinger once poked through, slowly from side to side.

Bagon eyes the creepy substitute and wonders what to do next. The construct will prevent him from hitting its master with either zen headbutt or aerial ace, it's true, but he can just smash through it with a couple of attacks. Then again, the alternative is to relax and do nothing for a little--not an unpleasant prospect, even for the bloodthirsty bagon. After a bit of consideration, Bagon plops down on the roof and prepares to chill, enjoying the heat radiating up from the tarmac and a brief moment of peace in the midst of a hectic battle.

Bagon doesn't notice the dark aura fuming around Diamondback's body, and so is taken completely by surprise when a black cloud clutches at him, draining him of all his calm and collectedness. Bagon gives Diamondback an accusatory glare--and to think, for a moment he'd almost been able to forget the snake was even there.

With many a suspicious glance back over his shoulder, Bagon gets up and trots a bit away from Diamondback, putting some distance between himself and the snake, then settles down again and tries once more to chill. Diamondback is still easily able to snatch the attack away, however, and the seviper welcomes another burst of ill-gotten energy.

After relaxing for much of the last round, Bagon is ready to get back in action. He bounces to his feet and starts up an energetic dance, slowly circling Diamondback as he goes. The bagon's short arms and legs make the dragon dance a somewhat awkward affair, mostly bouncing back and forth from one foot to another in a frenzied high-step, jointless arms waving stiffly up and down all the while. While the dance may look silly, Bagon puts his all into it, and it in turn allows him to tap into the powers of his ancient bloodline.

Diamondback really only sees the silliness as Bagon hops and stomps around the arena. The seviper spares a smirk for the dragon's dancing before performing his own attack. He releases the pent-up energy he had stored, letting it rush back into his body in a flood of invigorating power. The seviper's physical condition immediately improves, though the modicum of defense the excess energy had provided him is lost in the snap healing process.

Still, Diamondback is feeling good, and he spends a little more time watching Bagon's continued dancing before he settles down to finish the process with a more conventional rest. The seviper curls himself into a tight spiral, resting his head on his coils and letting his bladed tail trail out behind. He falls into a trance-like sleep, leveraging more of his energy to heal his remaining wounds at top speed.

Bagon continues his dragon dance for a little while longer, by now having worked up to a furious pace. The bagon's ears are full of dragonsong and his confidence buoyed by the new strength that fills his limbs. He ends his dance with a final, exuberant leap, eyeing his sleeping opponent with confidence. Diamondback is in for a nasty surprise.

Bagon lowers his head, having a little difficulty concentrating on building psychic power through his excitement, then rushes forward at his neatly-piled opponent. He almost doesn't care that Diamondback's pale substitute slithers into his path, preventing him from reaching his true target. The zen headbutt is powerful enough to tear the old snakeskin clean in half, blasting all life from the animated thing--and that is satisfying enough for Bagon at the moment. Diamondback himself sleeps on untroubled, doing no more than to draw in a deep breath, then let out a blaring snore that forces Bagon to clap his tiny paws over his ears in an attempt to block out painfully loud noise.

With his opponent still sleeping and now without even a substitute for protection, Bagon is more than happy to stay on the offensive. With the new power lended to him by dragon dance, he's feeling especially dangerous and eager to show off with a powerful attack. Dragon rush is just that, and Bagon prepares himself with a will, drawing on his reserves of dragon power to lend him speed and power as he charges down his opponent. The air around him ripples with heat, and brilliant blue and purple flames erupt from his skin as he reaches top speed. Bagon collides with Diamondback, hurling the snake back several feet with the power of the collision.

Still Diamondback does not awaken, locked for a little while longer in his healing trance. He does, however, start to mutter and twitch, tail slapping spastically at the concrete as tremors run through his body. Bagon, who has taken a moment to recover, is puzzled as a green mist obscures his vision; looking down, he finds a green glow surrounding his body; across the roof, a similar aura appears around Diamondback. Bagon gasps as he is clutched in an abrupt dizzy spell, a horrible drained feeling coming over him as his very life is sucked out of him, pulled across the temporary link between himself and Diamondback to restore the seviper's health.

The giga drain peters out as Diamondback struggles back to wakefulness at last. Although the dragon rush did prevent him from making it all the way back to full health, he's feeling far better than he did when he started resting, albeit a bit tired. Diamondback yawns and draws himself up into a ready stance. Bagon, still struggling to get over the horrible lethargy brought on by the giga drain, recognizes the danger and forces himself to concentrate, gathering energy for another attack.

Diamondback's eyes widen as Bagon starts running towards him, expression grim and the air around him dancing with power. The snake braces himself for a painful impact, but it is not to be: Bagon dives at him, but Diamondback slips sideways at just the right moment, leaving Bagon to hit pavement instead of snake. The little dragon slides along on his belly for a few feet, carried onwards by his own momentum, and is left lying dazed a little to Diamondback's left.

The seviper chuckles to himself, then begins to blow out a cloud of dark grey mist, which rapidly billows out across the heliopad. The fingers of haze wrap themselves around Bagon, horribly clammy and persistent. The dragon shivers, feeling his confidence and energy fading, sapped away by the chill atmosphere. He feels rather weak and silly as he manage to pull himself back to his feet; his last dragon rush was a spectacular flop, and now it's even harder for him to aim, thanks to the haze.

Nevertheless, he is compelled to try again, if only to regain his dignity after the failure of his last attack. He spots what he thinks is Diamondback lurking not too far away and orients himself in that direction, preparing for another grand charge. In the end, his judgment proves a bit off: he rushes through nothing more than empty space, missing his opponent entirely and coming in for another hard landing on the cement.

Diamondback, meanwhile, is content to lurk in the murk and attack from a distance. The seviper's raspy tones reach Bagon's ears as he lies on the ground, nursing his injured pride. Diamondback dares Bagon to come and find him, if he can, and assures him that the seviper is feeling much better now, not in the slightest troubled by Bagon's attacks. If only Bagon were halfway competent--surely missing twice in a row is something only a newbie could manage.

The chilly fog seems to drain all strong emotions out of Bagon's body, leaving him feeling hollow and tired--he simply can't get all that worked up about his opponent's jibes. In the deep haze, the snake's voice seems to come from all directions at once, and Bagon scrambles to his feet, looking this way and that hoping to figure out where the snake is. Ultimately, he has no luck, and only ends up feeling confused and unsettled as Diamondback's disembodied voice continues to carry to him, distressingly near and yet somehow impossible to pin down.

Fun round yes it was. I bet MF hates now yes he does. A Chill is needed yes it is.

Well we won't do much damage this round no we won't. First of all, chill. Then Taunt, then renew the Haze. If you get taunted, switch to Chill, Dig down, then Hidden Power. Pray for an Ice or dragon type too. HP probably won't hit in the tuneel but hope for the best.

Bagon, dazed and tired, practically collapses into a seated position and tries to relax. The clammy haze doesn't make for the most comforting atmosphere, but the cold does help clear Bagon's head a little. The haze is slowly dispersing, and Bagon thinks he can make out Diamondback not to far away. The seviper doesn't seem to be doing anything at the moment, just lying in a low sprawl on the roof. Like Bagon, Diamondback is resting, and the two pokémon relax for several seconds, the only sound in the arena the thin, distant wail of a siren.

The peace can't last forever, though. Diamondback is the one to break it, raising his head from the concrete and flashing Bagon a one-fanged grin that the dragon can't really appreciate, thanks to the haze that still hangs between him and the seviper. As he did before, Diamondback begins to insult his opponent, goading him into reckless attack. Bagon barely hears the seviper's taunts--as anger rises in his chest, his head spins and throbs painfully. Still Bagon struggles to his feet, what little part of him that remains coherent determined to defend his honor by teaching Diamondback a painful lesson.

It is not to be. Bagon can barely stand, much less make a successful charge at his opponent. All his efforts earn him is a scraped snout when his zen headbutt goes awry, ending with him facedown on the roof and the breath knocked out of him, having tripped over his own feet.

Diamondback smugly blows out another black cloud of haze, renewing the thinning cloud of blackness and once again causing the temperature in the arena to drop. Bagon is struggling to rise, though, and by the time he gains his feet his luck seems to have turned. Whether his fall knocked some sense back into him or the briskness of the air has shocked him back to his senses, Bagon finds himself clearheaded a last. Generating a furious storm of psychic energy in his skull helps to focus him further, and by happy chance the dragon takes off in the direction of his opponent, head lowered to strike.

Diamondback is unpleasantly surprised when his opponent comes hurtling out of the billowing cloud of haze, a zen headbut aimed straight at the seviper. By now Diamondback is used to the painful burst of psychic energy that accompanies the attack, but that doesn't make him any more pleased as the zen headbutt shoves him back with a painful jolt.

Bagon is still much too angry to listen to his trainer's suggestion that he take a break. The dragon type's skull buzzes with pent-up psychic energy as he lowers his head and charges again into the depths of the haze. Meanwhile, Diamondback has drawn himself up, his eyes glowing red and his scales turned a muted gray as he holds himself ready to reach out and snatch Bagon's chill. It's quite the shock when, instead of sitting down and resting, the dragon comes hurtling out of the haze and hits him with another zen headbutt.

Once again Diamondback is sent sliding back across the roof, his coat of dark energy dissipating at the same time. So much for that plan! The seviper lets out a bad-tempered hiss and tries a different tack. His remaining fang glows a brilliant green as he extends lines of grass power towards his opponent, intending to steal away some of Bagon's energy that way instead. His own haze thwarts him, though--try though he might, Diamondback can't locate his opponent through the fog.

Bagon, meanwhile, feels immensely better after his zen headbutt. He's still dizzy and a bit sick, but he's no longer furious and can actually take a little while to relax and recover. While Diamondback is trying to salvage his ill-fated giga drain, Bagon sits back and waits.

Despite his best attempts to calm down, though, Bagon just can't drive away all of his confusion. When Diamondback gives up on his attack and starts slithering in a wide circle around where he thinks Bagon is, the dragon can't help but be unnerved. The sound of the seviper's scales rasping against concrete, circling ominously just out of Bagon's sight, is enough to rattle the dragon right out of his chill. He jumps to his feet, ready to weather whatever attack Diamondback intends to throw his way, but in the end only overbalances and falls over, thwarted again by his confusion.

Thwarting seems to be the order of the day, for while Diamondback's ever-faster circling allows him to successfully produce three illusionary copies of himself, they are not to last. The haze is nearly gone by now, dissipating fast, but what remnants of it do remain eat through Diamondback's newly-minted clones, causing them to fade away even as the haze does itself.

Now that the haze is gone, a great cloud of smoke is clearly visible rising from the city nearby. Looking over the edge of the roof gives a fine view of the fire, which by now is quite close.
