Aries stopped for a moment to consider his commands. Washibon’s tunnel…? He wasn’t aware that Rufflet could dig. Maybe his trainer meant his opponent’s tunnel. Shrugging, Aries hopped back into Cainus’s underground hideout, hoping that the Growlithe was still napping.

Meanwhile, William began to dig a tunnel of his own. Two swift strikes to the bricks shattered them and exposed the earth underneath; then William was shoveling away. Instead of sloping gently downwards, however, the tunnel abruptly leveled off and made a beeline for Cainus’ burrow.

As William neared his destination, Cainus felt the vibrations of an approaching enemy, and resolutely dug out another passageway, intending to intercept William and protect his teammate. Cainus was no expert in underground warfare and hoped that William’s movements would be enough to lead him to his target. His hopes were answered: Cainus’ claws hit air instead of dirt and the Growlithe shouldered his way through the narrow opening, emerging in another tunnel. Startled, William whipped around only to have Cainus barrel into him and viciously tackle him to the ground.

On the surface, Washibon was suddenly very lonely as both of his opponents vanished underground. Not that he really missed them. Unfortunately, his commands decreed that he, too, must vanish into the earth. Washibon squirmed uncomfortably – the ground was no place for a bird to be, and at any rate, his opponents were likely to be there, too, waiting to finish him off. Groaning in pain and frustration, he started to hop towards the tunnel – only to have his legs stiffen up. He squawked in surprise as he lost his footing and tumbled over. As he lay, twitching, on the ground, Washibon wasn’t sure whether to be irritated at his paralysis, or thankful that it prevented him from rushing into a tunnel.

In Cainus’ tunnel, Aries fidgeted, feeling claustrophobic and increasingly agitated. Cainus himself had vanished elsewhere, which was great as he no longer had to worry about being torched, but Washibon still had not appeared. Squirming in discomfort, Aries decided to wait just a bit longer…

Aries’ partner was frantic as well, but for different reasons. Cainus was still pinning William to the ground. William struggled to maneuver in the tight confines of the tunnel, but he couldn’t shake his attacker off. His trainer, however, did not specify a target for his next attack… With a snarl William cloaked his fingers in electricity, clenched his fist, and punched Cainus in the chest. Cainus was thrown off with a strangled yelp.

Cainus backed up a few steps, hoping to avoid taking another hit. Though he still had plenty of fight left, the Growlithe was weakening. Even worse, he didn’t seem to have an order to match his circumstances: there was no Washibon nearby to protect. Whining, Cainus curled up in the cramped tunnel and shuffled restlessly, hoping he wasn’t botching his commands.

At last Aries decided that Washibon was not coming, so he fluffed up his cotton in preparation for a nap. As if on cue, the light in the tunnel was blocked by an avian shape. Pebbles and dirt showered Aries as Washibon slipped and skidded his way down the burrow, coming to rest a few paces away. When he realized he was not alone in the tunnel, Washibon squeaked and tried to scramble away, but he was not able to get far with his thin legs and damaged wings.

Fortunately for Washibon, Aries had no intention of hurting him just yet. The Rufflet’s sudden appearance was startling, but Aries just blinked sleepily and then closed his eyes for a brief doze. Knocking Washibon out could wait; Aries hadn’t had so much as a wink of rest since the battle started, and he was quite tired. However, the niggling throb of his burn reminded him that he was weakening, and he’d have to finish the fight soon. Seeing his opponent sink into a light slumber, Washibon relaxed and did the same. He wasn’t particularly tired, really, but a break from the battle was very welcome.

William’s physical state wasn’t as dire as Aries’, but he was similarly exhausted. With one wary eye on Cainus, William sat on the ground and relaxed, allowing energy to flow back into his tired limbs. Seeing that his opponent was vulnerable, Cainus snatched the opportunity to attack – may as well do something productive instead of sit there twiddling his paws, right? Unfortunately, his paralysis chose an excellent time to kick in, and Cainus’ deep breath was interrupted by choking and coughing as his entire body spasmed and stiffened.

Getting a reffing up before I leave~ Take your time commanding, guys, I won't be back until the 1st.
Washibon was paralyzed on the first action.
Cainus intercepted William’s Dig, so William stopped digging there and did not attack.
Aries did nothing on the second action as there was no target to Return.
Cainus was confused by his commands on the second action and did not attack.
Washibon’s Agility only gave him +1 Speed since it was mainly used to get into the tunnel, and it’s difficult to loosen up/build up speed in a tunnel.
Cainus was paralyzed on the third action.

Aries: Leech seed Washibon, if he protects chill. After that come out of the tunnel and chill again.

William: Drain punch (health) at Canius. If he protects chill instead. If tired, drain energy.

Hey look I'm going to try to loophole my way to another good round.

Okay Washibon, you're Going to Protect action one, then hopefully finish Aries off with a STAB Super Effective Air Slash which I figure doing around 30 some damage. After that, chill out.

Protect ~ Air Slash @ Aries ~ Chill

Cainus, Dig out of there and into the tunnel with Aries and Washibon, and use it to attack Aries to disrupt the chill. William is only told to stand and attack, but not to follow if you pull any shenanigans. This means hopefully once you dig out he'll keep Drain Punching absolutely nothing. After that, Chill out if the round doesn't end.

Out of the corner of his eye, Washibon saw a flicker of movement from Aries. Nervous and determined to stay in the fight for as long as possible, he quickly raised the umpteenth Protect of the match. As it turned out, Aries was simply rummaging about in his cotton to find some seeds. When he saw the air before Washibon shimmer ever so slightly, Aries frowned and gave the air an experimental jab. His leaf was stopped short. Well, not like he was opposed to having another five minutes of rest… Shrugging, the Cottonee fluffed up and closed his eyes again, leaving Washibon to rage about his wasted shield.

Meanwhile, Cainus had concluded that it would be safer to face off against Aries rather than William. He began to claw at the wall of the tunnel, but his stiff muscles made his movements sluggish, allowing William to prepare his next attack at his leisure. So Cainus wanted to run away, eh? He’d give him a bruise to remember him by. A golden glow of fighting energy seeped from William’s fingers, which he curled into a fist. Then he gave Cainus a solid punch to the thigh. The Growlithe yelped his pain and redoubled his efforts to escape, while William stepped back, satisfied. A few minor bruises disappeared as stolen life force was transferred to him.

With the paralysis hindering his efforts, it took longer than usual to dig a tunnel, but at last Cainus burst into his original burrow, bringing with him a shower of dirt and debris. Startled, Aries’ eyes snapped open, but he was too slow to avoid the tackle. It was not particularly strong, though, and as Cainus stepped back to shake the dust out of his fur, Aries grumbled and resumed his nap.

His nap came to an end all too soon, though, as his trainer gave him a verbal prod from the surface. Aries reluctantly opened his eyes and shoved his leaf into his cotton, searching for some seeds – there. He then threw them at Washibon, who gave a squawk of alarm. Instead of exploding or lashing vines at him, though, the seeds simply sprouted roots which dug through his feathers to latch firmly onto his skin. Washibon relaxed somewhat. He wasn’t out of the game just yet, but he could feel the roots slowly sucking out his vitality. Normally he wouldn’t be so bothered, but when he had so little energy left, it was a constant reminder that the clock was ticking.

It was imperative that Washibon acted quickly, then. Awkwardly he stretched his uninjured wing, then whipped it forward, careful not to bash his own wing against the walls of the tunnel. The wing left a blade of air in its wake, kicking up debris as it zipped along. Aries screeched as part of his cotton was shredded and a wound opened up in his vulnerable body. The super-effective attack did a number on the poor Cottonee. He was now fighting to stay conscious, black spots dotting his vision.

Cainus wanted in on the action, but unfortunately he was commanded to lie down and rest. If he was on the surface, he’d give his trainer a glare. Really? He was brimming with energy. With a bad-tempered huff, Cainus curled up on the floor and buried his nose in his paws. Restless and eager to fight, he growled and fidgeted.

Like Cainus, William decided to take a break too. Unlike Cainus, though, William appreciated the lull in action, as he was quite tired. The Scraggy’s rival was nowhere to be seen, and he had no other options, so why not curl up for a nap? A quiet snore echoed in the tunnel.

The rest of the round promised to be uneventful as Washibon and Aries decided to join in on the snooze party. It was as if all four battlers had silently agreed to a momentary truce. The twitchy Cainus accidentally kicked Aries, but the cotton ball just grunted and shifted away, too sleepy to return the shove.

The snores and the sound of Cainus’s agitated scuffles drifted from the mouths of the tunnels, making the trainers quite sleepy themselves. Derpy sat down with her head bowed, lurching drunkenly forward every so often, while Wargle blinked rapidly in an attempt to chase the temptation to sleep away. The referee was not so valiant: she was already curled up on the ground, a pile of metal and ninjatoes snoring contentedly.

Cainus was now eying Aries hungrily, embers leaking out of his mouth. Spooked and determined not to fall, Aries guaranteed that no harm would come to him in the next short while by putting up an impenetrable shield of pure energy. The air in front of the Cottonee glimmered, and he stared at Cainus, daring him with his eyes to attack.

Cainus took the bait and, stoking his inner fire, breathed out a mighty plume of flame. The dark tunnel was abruptly lit up as the fierce blaze flew at Aries, flickering hungrily as it sought to snuff out the last of its target’s consciousness. Predictably and somewhat anticlimactically, the attack was stopped by the shield. Struggling to find a way to its target, the Flamethrower surged around the protective dome, but to no avail; the fire died down and the tunnel was plunged into darkness again. There was still enough light to see though, and Cainus gave a yelp of anger as he saw Aries panting and battered, but still standing. Too late he noticed the shimmer of a Protect, and he kicked himself for his inattention.

William roused himself from his nap and decided to join the other three battlers. With a bit of fumbling about he managed to locate Cainus’ connecting burrow and crawled into it, soon plopping into the other tunnel right behind the Growlithe. Cainus let out a bark of surprise and turned around, baring his teeth at the newcomer.

Meanwhile, Washibon was still napping. He had grumbled in discomfort at the sudden light of the fire, but other than that he was completely peaceful, a pile of blue and white feathers distanced from the other three battlers. And indeed, the others did not seem to notice or seek to bother him.

At last, too tired to keep his shield up any longer, Aries let his defenses drop. The Cottonee was nervous without any type of protection, though, so he began to zip back and forth in the tunnel, careful not to crash into Washibon or Cainus, who were trapping him in a worryingly short length of burrow. Due to these limitations, Aries was only capable of producing two copies, which uncomfortably shifted into a single file line. The three Cottonee fidgeted anxiously – a single projectile could hit them all. It was hardly the best security.

Thankfully, Cainus was not concerned with Aries anymore. Instead, he turned his attention to William. Cinders began to spew from his mouth again as a mysterious chemical reaction went on in his fire sac, producing a raging fire. This time, the Flamethrower met its target. William shrieked and began to thrash around as flames danced merrily on his skin, hitting the walls of the tunnel in his haste to beat the fire out. Aries cringed at the sudden illumination, but he was glad that it was not him being torched.

Finally, the blaze died away, leaving William with a throbbing body but no lasting burns. Still, he was furious. What a welcome: having his face set on fire! He did not hesitate on giving Cainus a piece of his mind. What an ill-mannered puppy. Setting visitors’ faces on fire! Aren’t puppies supposed to be slobbering, unquestioning beasts? Oh, and speaking of fire, that was pathetic. Can’t even beat a grass-type, huh? At that he gestured at Aries. You look like you’re about to keel over, yourself! Losing to a cotton ball is bad enough, but with a type advantage? You’re a joke. William sat down and crossed his arms, laughing with disdain.

Said cotton ball flashed an annoyed glance at William – cotton balls weren’t as pathetic as most people made them out to be, thank you. As if to illustrate that point, Aries approached Washibon and lashed out with a leaf. The leaf did not make contact, but the shadowy extension did, ruffling feathers and scratching at skin. Washibon leapt up with a startled squawk and glared at Aries, only to be slapped from behind. Whipping around, he saw a dark silhouette of William grin at him before disappearing. The blows were extremely light, but in Washibon’s current condition, any hit felt like it came from a truck.

Meanwhile, Cainus was practically drooling with fury, except that what leaked out of his mouth was a thin stream of lava, not saliva. He took a deep breath, ready to give that insolent Scraggy a good roasting – only to choke and fall over as his muscles clenched. Cainus whimpered in discomfort and rage, furious that his body would choose such a time to fail him. There was nothing he could do but writhe pathetically on the ground while William stood over him and laughed.

Cainus’ fury changed to horror when he realized that, amidst dark chuckles, William was readying another golden fist. Again, the Scraggy’s taunts hit home: he was indeed about to keel over, and he wasn’t sure he could stand another Drain Punch. Cainus howled in pain as he was struck, black spots dancing before his eyes – it took an immense effort to simply remain conscious. William, on the other hand, was soothed by the stolen life energy. A few patches of scorched skin flaked off to reveal healthy scales underneath.

Like Cainus, Washibon was growing increasingly desperate. The seeds on his back continued to drain his energy, and he was now teetering on the edge of consciousness. It felt like moving would cause him to shatter into a million tiny pieces. Still, he had to escape the tunnel, distance himself from his opponents. Washibon stumbled forward, claws slipping on the loose ground of the tunnel, until he reached the mouth. Using his beaks and feet, he awkwardly pulled himself out, panting and feeling incredibly weak. At least he was out in the open again, even if the sky was populated with meteors. At least defeat would claim him on the surface, not in that miserable hole.

Double Team only produced 2 clones because Aries had a very limited space to build speed in.
Cainus was paralyzed on the third action.
Washibon only got +1 from Agility due to the tunnel not being the best place to build speed, and that it was used mostly to exit the tunnel.

Upon hearing his commands, Cainus gave a snort of disgust. Protect? Why Protect when he had a pants lizard to fry? That’d just be proving William right – that he couldn’t fight properly, that he had to hide behind barriers to remain standing at all. It wasn’t true. It couldn’t be true. He was a Growlithe, damnit – the closest a trainer could get to owning a legendary! And legendaries could fight, oh they could fight. Anyone who said otherwise would get a Hyper Beam in the face, and rightfully so.

So caught up in his mental ranting was Cainus that he failed to notice his opponents approaching him. He yelped in surprise as he felt several pebbles thrown at him, but they were not pebbles at all. Instead of bouncing harmlessly off his fur, they burst open, revealing hungry roots that dug into his skin, slowly leeching away life force that he could not spare. Growing dizzy, Cainus glared accusingly at his opponents. Under normal circumstances, Aries would’ve shrank under the Growlithe’s furious glare, but he knew that he would expire soon, so the Cottonee’s eyes sparkled with glee instead.

Cainus was not about to take this abuse sitting down. With a wild roar he rushed forward, sinking his claws into the closest target: Aries. The Cottonee squeaked like a plush toy and tried to wriggle away; behind him, the other two faded away, proving to be mere clones. Cainus’ blows were uncoordinated and clumsy, so they did not hurt much, but Aries was already struggling to hold on. The poor cotton ball was literally beaten within an inch of his consciousness before he managed to duck and back away.

Angered, William gently pushed past Aries and glared at Cainus. The Growlithe’s grudge was against him, not Aries, and William would not stand to have his partner knocked out. It was time for Cainus to exit the stage. Summoning what power over the earth he had, William enforced his own skull with rock-type energy until it was as hard as diamond. Then he charged. Knowing that the impact would hurt him as well as Cainus, William braced himself – but the impact never came. Embarrassingly enough, he had somehow misjudged the distance and plowed headfirst into the ground in front of Cainus’ paws. William scrambled to his feet, dusting himself off, while Cainus laughed so hard that he rolled over, legs waving in the air. Who was it that couldn’t fight now?

On the surface, Washibon lay on his stomach, wings outstretched, looking like a dove that had been shot out of the sky. He was too weary to move. Neither could he rest, though, as an alarm kept blaring in his ears. Groggily opening his eyes, Washibon glared at the referee, who looked apologetically back – Chills were banned, and it was her job to enforce the rules. It didn’t make a difference in the end. With a final sigh, Washibon stopped fighting and let his consciousness drift away. The last thing he saw was the warm red light of a Pokeball, surrounding him, promising comfort and safety.

Final notes
Wargle attacks first next round.
Cainus used Struggle instead of Protect because he was Taunted. I randomized the target and got Aries.
Head Smash missed. Had it hit, it would’ve been a critical hit.
Washibon fainted at the end of the first action.

DERPY DON'T KILL CAINUS HE'LL DO IT HIMSELF.

FLARE BLITZ all the way! @ William x 3

also, it wouldn't have mattered if you had let washibon chill or not!

And taunt holy crap I forgot about that

What happened to the drain punch? Did it miss as well?

Aries: Return~Return~Return

William: Protect~Drain punch (health)~Protect
